Little restaurant tucked into the side of a hotel. No table service? I thought this was weird. I think they may have just been a little understaffed while we were there. We got an order of the crab balls. Not everything on the menu was available, so we had to settle. The crab balls were actually really good. Service was just minimal. This is also not really the spot to come to if you're looking for a bathroom. The bathroom required a key from the front desk of the hotel. read more

Ambience and Experience: I was in NOLA for work and so wanted to stay close to my hotel during a few of my nights in town. This restaurant was located in the lobby of the Canopy Hotel. I was excited to try this place because online it mentioned that it mixed Cantonese and Southern Creole into unique and flavorful dishes. It sounded amazing. Unfortunately, when I visited, the menu had been paired down and only offered basic American fare. Food: The food wasn't terrible by any means. I got their house burger and it was a pretty decent burger. Big, flavorful patty and loaded with toppings. It just wasn't what I was looking forward to though. I'm was pumped to try their fusion cuisine and had to settle on something entirely different. Drinks: The bar offered a small menu but most people would just order call drinks, beer and wine. I ordered Hurricanes, which were mixed strongly with real fruit juices. That was a plus. Bar staff were talkative and friendly. Verdict: Are there better places in NOLA to eat at? Absolutely. I think the fusion menu would give this place a better opportunity to stand out in such a crowded field that you find in New Orleans but if you are looking for something fast and close to your hotel, this place isn't bad either. This restaurant is inside the Hilton near the bar. It's convenient for the people already staying at the hotel but otherwise doesn't have a free parking lot if you want to dine here. We ordered the steak dinner with brussel sprouts and asparagus. We also ordered the beignets with caramel sauce. The steak itself was very chewy and had a lot of tendon. The asparagus was almost cooked to mush and had no texture. The brussel sprouts were actually the standout of the meal. Perfectly roasted with some kind of honey sauce. The beignets were mushy with the caramel sauce on it so I wish it was on the side instead. But it was delicious! The bartender was very nice though and checked in on us even though she was busy. read more

Not my favorite but may have just been off due to freak snow storm in New Orleans. Restaurant served its purpose of getting a meal when many businesses were closed or ran out of food. Food choices were limited but that would have been OK if service was good. Seemed staff were more interested in socializing with other staff than waiting on customers. It was convenient as restaurant was located in Hotel but big disappointment compared to other Canopy Restaurants. Food was Ok and nothing spectacular but served its purpose. I've tried almost everything on the menu during my stay at the Hilton Canopy and the only good thing they got is the Crayfish fried rice. It is top notch delicious but they make it different spice levels every time. The flavor is always good though. The brussels sprouts were good too but nothing to die for. The burger was also just ok but a tad too salty. things I would never recommend to my worst enemy is the brisket and broccoli and the yakamein. They're SO SALTY I had to rinse the food with water before I could swallow it. I hate to waste food but these 2 dishes got me really considering throwing it out. The pork buns are also super dry like bricks. I also got their eggs benny for breakfast and that was good. Not better than other restaurants but great for hotel food. Do yourself a favor and only get the crayfish fried rice. The food also takes at least 20 mins and not the 10 minutes they keep telling you. read more

The Ginger Roux is the best Asian/Creole fusion cuisine I've ever had. If you ever stay at the Canopy Hilton, do yourself a favor and try something off the menu! It's very easy to only eat fried fish, red beans, or other traditional New Orleans cuisine. Trust me, this is different in a good way! There was little to no wait to be seated and they have a great patio area, so we sat outside! The staff and servers are all very nice. The menu is small but covers all the bases. We ordered the crispy chicken wings in Tso's Spicy and Hoisin sauce. Both were good, but we preferred the Tso's Spicy. So the next day (we obviously stayed at the hotel a few days), we went back to eat and this time we ordered the Crawfish Boil Fried Rice. We were a little hesitant because the food description had a little bit of everything. From crawfish, sausage, eggs, corn, and mushrooms! LISTEN!!!! This fried rice is sooooo GOOD! Literally a party in my mouth. My husband and I could barely stop stuffing it in our mouths! I can't even begin to explain how delicious it was, but we definitely went back the next day and ordered it again! We will be back soon to stuff ourselves full of fried rice again! The Chicken thigh had a nice flavor and came with a Salad that complimented it well. It says kimchi aioli but it doesn't really taste like Kimchi. It's still pretty good though. The Fried rice was solid. Had a good amount of crawfish, sausage, corn, and mushroom. The texture of the rice could've been better though. The menu says potato chips but I think they're wonton chips. My order tonight totaled $68.00. I ordered the veggie fried rice, brisket and broccoli, and the chili lime cucumber salad. The rice for the veggie fried rice was so hard and undercooked that it was inedible. The chili-lime cucumber salad was VERY spicy even though the menu did not indicate it was spicy. Also the brisket and broccoli i was given a container of mostly sauce and mushy broccoli. The sauce was very gingery and not good. I was very disappointed as this place has great reviews. Tried to call the restaurant to see if there's anything they can do but no answer. I understand it's the end of the night (ordered a little after 9 and they close at 10) but this food was super overpriced for what i got. I hate to waste food but it was pretty inedible. read more

Service was great and the people who worked there were very kind. The ambiance felt like an upscale restaurant with European influence, especially for the breakfast part of the day. We got the French omelet and French toast for breakfast and vegetarian fried rice for dinner. The server messed up our breakfast order and accidentally gave us yogurt parfait but they were nice and gave it to us for free. The food was ok and I wouldn't say there was a lot of Chinese influence as a Hokkien Chinese person, but that might be a biased opinion since we couldn't have their meat options. I'd say the food was fairly priced for a vacation spot but I wouldn't pay it again unless we were staying at the same hotel as the restaurant. read more

Would give 5 stars just for the bartender and chef alone - some amazing talent located in the bottom of the Hilton Canopy hotel. This is a newer restaurant with a modern New Orleans vibe. I love the idea behind the food, it's Asian fusion, but with a traditional Cajun twist. I could eat the fried rice for breakfast lunch and dinner, the flavor was the perfect balance of the Asian fusion with notes of Cajun and it was so so good. The lemongrass shrimp were just alright, as were the bean egg rolls. I thought the flavors were a little bland. The drinks on the other hand, nothing less than outstanding - great options across the board all with a unique pairing unlike anything I've tried before. Overall prices are pretty reasonable, drinks on the spendier side BUT if you come during happy hour the wine, beer, and canned assortment is super cheap. The concept of Chinese Creole fusion is brilliant and this unlikely place, a part of the Canopy Hotel, tries to make it work. The menu is a little limited, but very inspired. The appetizers are the best story here- with wonderful lumpia a great dumpling gumbo and some cool dirty rice. The ideal of General Tso's alligator is imaginative, but the flavors don't all come through as much as I would have liked. The portions are plentiful and the vibe is relaxed. Also loved the bao buns and the general tso alligator was so good, the veggies tasted so fresh and it was a unique way to do alligator and came out amazing. You would think that being situated downtown that the food would be good, when I say this food made me mad, the atmosphere was hectic, the cook was horrible to his staff, I have worked in my fair share of places and have never heard a cook speak to someone like that, felt like I was in the middle of the street, the chef ally or al, was talking to his staff like they were his kids and I heard one of the young men tell him please don't speak to me like that and he told the guy you can go home before I buss your xxx, I would expect if you speak like that your food would be good, the fried rice was salty, the gumbo was too thick was like a gravy, so i see he do not take any consideration of customers, seem like this restaurant do not want any business, and I had a sample of food from here one night last month and it was good must have been a different person cooking because you can taste the difference and another thing the cook talk too loud you could hear him talk about everyone that work there say the lead cook on cocaine and that his general manager is with multiple women yall looking for a lawsuit smh no one wants to hear gossip while they are eating , I will never eat there again!!!!! read more

When I tell my experience was horrible, the cook was the worst, I asked one of the workers his name Al or something, I hate when I'm somewhere and a manager belittle his employees, I was in there for a while and I feel like I know most of the hotel and restaurant business, if I knew who is over this restaurant number I would give him or her a call, the food was mushy salty, I was looking forward to eating after hearing good from my family that came in town, they told me that they were told most people comes when a certain cook is there, I think his name was Terry, or Ter, or Tai, sorry but he was spoken highly of I will try again hopefully the cook everyone speaks of is there because if the cook al is I will walk clean out, I had a stomach ache after eating that rice, the chicken and the gumbo was not cooked well, it was too salty. read more
