I'm so glad they made it at the food hall upstairs of Hmart. Scampi was $16 straight. I guess tax already included. Cashier was kind enough asking if I want hot sauce on the side. Yeah, that's what I usually do. Because the hot plate is too spicy for me. I just need a dab for my plain rice. Everything was what I expected minus flies and birds trying to eat from my plate, if I was at the actual food truck. The original restaurant is actually a food truck that always has a line and about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Waikiki Beach. So, ya girl avoided all of that!!!! Alright, let's get to it..... Food-I ordered the shrimp scampi style. The shrimp were cleaned, cut down the middle (for an easier peel of shell) and seasoned to perfection. Now, the white rice was topped with this special gravy (you have to ask for it) that was thick, brownish in color with a strong garlic flavor. Lawwwwwwwd, it was delicious. My husband ordered the hot & spicy shrimp and babeeeee.....it was . But it was flavorful. Those shrimp too were seasoned and juicy. When you visit here, please remember the following: -the food is cooked to order, so you will have to wait a bit. -this location is literally on the second floor of a supermarket. -the gravy is extra! -the Mac salad is extra! Just found out about this spot from one of the locals. I didn't even know they had a H Mart here in the island. Anyways it's located on the second floor of H Mart along with other food places like a food court. Now I had Giovannis food truck in the past, but I'm just reviewing based on this location. I got the garlic butter shrimp togo, there was plenty of shrimps and rice for one order. I thought it was actually good and being conveniently located is a bonus for those staying near Ala Moana Blvd. Service was great. Giovanni's used to be my favorite shrimp spot. A few years ago I would have rated it 5 stars. Sadly, it has dropped off. I'm not sure if it's the same for their food trucks on the North Shore and Kahuku. I haven't been there in a while, but was happy that they opened in town at HMart. A regular plate has a dozen shrimps with two scoops of white rice. They used to give huge shrimps. I couldn't believe how tiny the shrimps are now. I actually received one large shrimp and the other 11 were small. Before all 12 shrimps were big. I took a pic so that you can see the difference. They used to be generous with their scampi sauce. The shrimp and rice were drenched in it. Now, there's barely any sauce. I used to peel off the shell and dip the shrimp in the excess sauce. No excess sauce to dip it in today. I've tried 3 different shrimp trucks and Giovanni is honestly my favorite hands down! This tastes the same as Giovanni shrimp truck but I prefer this spot because of the location. Easy parking, tables to dine on, and located above hmart so you can shop for snacks and drinks afterwards. There are also other food and drinks in the plaza as well I tried all their flavors and I'm not a huge fan of the lemon butter. Their spicy sauce is good but overwhelming. I really love Giovanni's, but over time it's been busier and busier, and where I usually stay on the island, it's become too out of the way for a quick snack. Went to another place for lunch on 6/30 that my friend suggested. I liked that this was in a food court (lots of variety!) and above an Hmart. We got a plate of the scampi and a plate of the lemon/butter, with a side of hot sauce. For both plates, the shrimp was cooked perfectly and came out of the shells easily. Out of the two, I'd say I enjoyed the scampi more. There was a lot of garlic on the shrimp and rice, for that extra garlic flavor. The hot sauce was definitely a little too spicy for me but it paired well so I had to use it! I wouldn't get the lemon/butter again, just because it was too simple for me personally. There wasn't a lot of flavor, even with the sauce. There's plenty of seating in the food court and the tables and chairs were clean. Do be aware that the business is cash only though. They have the credit card system there but it doesn't seem like they use it? Either way, I'm glad I was able to try out the garlic shrimp! read more

Yes I've been to the food truck location in North Shore & it was great, but tbh if you're limited in time & staying in Waikiki area, this food court location is just as great! PROS -garlic shrimp was juicy & delicious! 10/10 -convenient location -free parking (1 hr or less) or $1-$2, get validation from giovanni's -no swatting bugs away from your food like at the food truck location -plenty of clean seating indoors -can wash hands in restroom -no waiting in line (we came around 2/3pm on a weekday) CONS -a "less authentic" experience & not the OG location FOOD You can get 1/2 of 1 flavor & 1/2 of a 2nd flavor. Must order the garlic bc that's the OG flavor & the best flavor imo. The spicy is really spicy & it burns. I did not like it very much tbh, the flavor was too overpowering. I didn't try the 3rd flavor bc it didn't seem popular or flavorful. My go-to order is the garlic shrimp plate with hot sauce on the side. The plates have gotten a little more expensive than I remember at $17.50 for the scampi, but it comes with 12 shrimp with lemon and 2 scoops of rice with their garlic mix on top. They're not the biggest shrimp, and the outside didn't have too much flavor making it a little bland overall. Honestly there are better places to get the same style butter garlic shrimp, but I would go if I was craving it and needing groceries at the same time. It's located in a little lot with a bunch of other little food and drink trucks. You can park nearby or pay to park in the lot if it's not full already. Waited in a line for about 20-30 minutes and was even more hungry by the time I got to the front. Went with the garlic shrimp because it's such a classic. It comes with rice and is SUPER garlicky. It's a little on the oily side and a I felt a little overcooked. The only thing hubby did not like was there wasn't an option for peeled shrimps. The shrimp was very fresh and butterflied down the middle for easy peeling for the shell. Each plate came with two scoops of rice topped with a good amount of fried garlic. When I found out there was a Giovanni's location conveniently located above an H-Mart in Honolulu, I made it a point to stop by for lunch, saving us a trip all the way up to North Shore. There are actually two ways up to the food court upstairs where Giovanni's is located at. You can either head through H-Mart and find the stairs in the middle of the store, or you can take the side stairs outside of the main entrance, that leads directly to the food court. I had expected a line when we arrived, akin to the food truck experience. But was pleasantly surprised to see that there was only 1 person in front of us, allowing us to place our order pretty quickly. We opted for two Scampi Shrimp dishes, each with a side of hot sauce. And the order was ready about 10mins later. The food was definitely just as good as I remembered from the food truck location. The shrimp pieces were big, well-seasoned, and a generous quantity was included with every order. And the hot sauce we ordered on the side was definitely hot, and provided a very nice kick to the overall meal. Various open tables are available throughout the food court, and most certainly is cleaner and more enjoyable to eat inside, than outside in the sweltering humidity and the occasional fly buzzing around. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Giovanni's opened a location near Waikiki. No longer need to make the long trek to the North Shore! On the top floor above Hmart, you'll find it in a food court. Someone earlier said the price was slightly more than the trucks but that's not true. The scampi is the same at $16 minus the flies and heat. Eat your shrimp in a clean AC environment with access to restrooms! Plus they take credit card here where the trucks were cash only. For some reason I feel like the trucks (been to both) taste a little better but maybe that is due to the long trek so everything tastes better when you work for it. If you do go to North Shore, try the garlic shrimp at Ted's Bakery. I think it tastes better plus you get a slice of haupia pie. That said with Giovanni's so close to Waikiki now, I'll be back to this location to get my garlic shrimp fix. read more

When I was up at North Shore, we opt for Jenny's Shrimp Truck instead of Giovanni's due to friend's' recommendation. However, with it being my first time in Oahu, not trying Giovanni's just doesn't feel right. Luckily, we found that Giovanni is also served on the second floor of H-Mart in Waikiki! With it not being the OG, I knew it might be a bit off, but man, Giovanni's was kind of underwhelming. Starting with the rice, the garlic were over fried causing it to be a tad too bitter. The garlic butter also didn't make its way to the bottom of the rice, instead it just sat above. Rice was way too wet and sticky. Now onto the shrimp. The garlic butter flavor is there, but definitely no where close to Jenny's. Shrimp size was also significantly smaller than Jenny's. Maybe with it being the second location, the quality just isn't there. Considering the brand name is still on there, I would definitely recommend visitors to choose Jenny's instead. read more
