Amazing! This was my first stop after landing in Chicago and so glad I did. We ordered the shot of espresso, chocolate croissant, spinach cheese croissant and americanos. Everything was perfection. Flaky croissants, great coffee and great service. Cool bar where they make the coffee and you get to watch them. Super friendly staff. I narrowed it down to a banana muffin and a large latte, plain. No flavors. My spouse ordered the pecan sticky bun and cafe mocha. Both the muffin and sticky bun were large, warmed perfectly, and very delicious. I need one tomorrow, but it's too far away now. My latte was so hot, which is a baseline for me when I order something hot. It MUST BE HOT. Luke warm is not going to make the cut. I enjoyed my latte far longer than anyone wanted me in there. We had high expectations and the food and drinks were very good. We, however, were frustrated with the service. We had ordered several items including 2 Chicago hotdog croissants. When our order came, those 2 items were missing. We asked and they said they were never ordered. So we ordered them again. A few minutes later, they came with a bag and we started to leave but after checking, they had only given us one. We went again to get it corrected and were told we only ordered one. So we ordered again and after a few minutes, they came with another bag. We thanked them and left. When we arrived back at our rental, found it was a plain croissant. The coffee itself is great and doesn't need the gimmicks, but there are lots of fun options if you like that stuff. After being a highly recommended breakfast place to check out, we were extremely disappointed with the service across the board from the time we entered to the time we left. An elderly woman greeted us and ordered us to the area for us to place an order. She was very rude and spoke next to zero English. At the counter the young lady was very rude and trying to dictate what to order with very limited flexibility on what we could choose. After more than the time we should have spent at the counter we were rudely ordered to wait to the side with our buzzer so that we can eventually be seated. Despite there being areas to seat we were "told" to not move. We were finally seated as we patiently waited for our food. After a good 10 minute wait the food finally arrived. By the way, there was a young lady with black hair and thin who was super nice and gave us a cup of ice for one of the sodas we had. I have to say the food - a breakfast croissant with turkey bacon was ok, though one slice of turkey bacon for 10.99 just doesn't cut it. The biscuit egg and Cheese was horrible due to a very very dry biscuit. McDonald's biscuit for $1.49 is so much better. Then the last straw came when one of the cleanup guys ...fat guy with long black hair was extremely rude by saying "hey..hey...are you done yet with your food". After i said that is pretty rude to him he continued to be obnoxious and defend his "hey" commentary. Will never return and high recommend that no one goes here as the food is sub par ...and the workers even a so called manager were very rude and obnoxious...only star was the young thin lady at the coffee station who offered a cup of ice and was very nice . read more

This place looked SO busy when I walked in and I was worried that it would take a long time, but this staff has their system ORGANIZED! Someone greeted me as I centered, handed me a small menu, and got me in line. The line moved lightning fast. They asked if I was doing dine in or take out, and I needed both. They packed up my bakery item to go and delivered it to the table they sat me at with a numbered buzzer. Everyone was brought right to my table. Staff was circulating watching for trash items, finished plates, checking to make sure me and everyone else were getting all the items we'd ordered, etc. honestly their service is a great boon to this place alone! But that's of course not all! The space is clean and beautiful with lots of gorgeous art deco elements from painted florals on the walls to the gold geometric accents and the light blue theme throughout. Now the food! The bakery case was full with a fantastic selection of treats. I got a dulce de lece croissant to go. The flake of the croissant was excellent. I could have done with maybe a touch more of the cream filling, but it also didn't spill out from being overfilled, so take or leave that feedback as you will. In restaurant I got an iced Thai tea, great drink, no notes. For brunch I got the avocado toast. After ordering, I did start to have a small amount of order regret, but once my plate was in front of me, I was very pleased. A thick slice of multigrain sourdough with a thick layer of mashed avocado was piled plentifully with lemon-dressed arugula and shaved radishes. The avocado was actually smashed avocado, not guac or the manufactured avocado spread that many places use for avo toast. And they weren't shy about the amount. Totally satisfied and it was a great brunch that felt indulgent while also being healthy, and since I was traveling for work, I appreciated that in a series of days of only eating out. Outdoor seating that's nicely separated from the road. Different types of indoor seating including bar-style facing outside (my favorite). I had a delicious Vietnamese-style iced coffee and a pastry that was a cross between a croissant and a pain au chocolat, with much more chocolate than I expected (but somehow, not over-sweet- just grab some napkins!) Goddess & the Baker is a small local chain with multiple locations, I only tried this spot, but will look for the others next time I'm in Chicago. It's a short walk from the Chicago River promenade. Chicago in summer has a lovely cafe culture, echos of European summer. This cafe is a delightful contribution. read more

This place is clearly a fan favorite as the door constantly rotated with patrons coming in and out. Despite the heavy flow of traffic, I would say that the staff did their best to keep order and to not allow patrons to hog tables for too long. As for the food, the baked goods presented in the glass case all looked delicious! For my meal, I ordered the bacon avocado omelette with a waffle along with a goddess sweet cream cold brew. The food was delivered to our table pretty swiftly surprisingly! With regards to my omelette, I would say the avocado chunks were slightly underwhelming, but ultimately, the meal was good. I enjoyed my waffle mostly. We also tried a traditional cheesecake which was pretty good as well - it was compact in size yet very filling! Bright and inviting space, you order at the counter and get a light up coaster while you find a spot to sit. I got the nitro cold brew and hash brown sandwich(subbed sausage for bacon). 3.5 stars. Goddess and the Baker seems to be quite a popular spot for coffee, pastries, and hang-outs. I enjoyed the drinks more than the pastries that I tried. FOOD + DRINKS // + Chagaccino (thumbs-up!): this comes with espresso, steamed oat milk, wild foraged chaga, organic cacao, cinnamon, and vanilla. Chaga supposedly has a variety of health benefits, so you can feel extra healthy while drinking it! Plus, it tasted pretty good. I'd get this again. + Apple butter latte (mixed feelings about this drink): this has espresso, apple butter, and oat milk. It reminded me of Starbucks' Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato, but less sweet. If you like apple butter or apple pie, it's worth giving this a shot. ~ Cappuccino croissant (pass): I got my croissant warmed, per recommendation from the staff, but I'm not sure if it made the croissant any better. The croissant itself was dense/doughy, not flaky or crisp, which gave me the impression it had been sitting around for a while. The coffee cream inside tasted good and helped with the dryness of the croissant, but there was only a small dollop of it on one end. ~ Cinnamon roll cruffin (pass): this looked better than it tasted. Again, the croissant texture was bready, a combination of soft and dense, and I didn't particularly enjoy it. SERVICE + AMBIANCE // I stopped by here on several weekday mornings, and it was packed every time with people grabbing things to-go and sitting around chatting. There's often a short line, but it moves quickly and is still shorter than Starbucks (and the coffee is arguably better). Plenty of available seating inside. There were a few outdoor tables and chairs on the non-rainy days. Hip aesthetic. The tables aren't always the cleanest due to the high turnover of people, but people should also clean up after themselves more :) Also, I love the designs on their printed paper coffee cups. The ones I got had cute art of Chicago's elevated rail lines and a representation of their coffee shop. OVERALL // I'd come back to Goddess and the Baker for coffee drinks any day. Two words: Glitter Latte! So cute and fun for the new year. My family and I came here on New Years Eve for a quick meal and we had a great experience. Not all locations are the same, but we really enjoyed our experience here. The servers and cashiers here were very friendly and accommodating to any dietary/allergy adjustments. In addition, we were able to get tables together despite how busy it was with help from the staff. We were very hungry and didn't take any pictures of our meal but we all agreed that chickpea sandwich, hummus wrap, avocado toast, tostada were all excellent choices. What a great establishment. As busy as they were they had their system down like a well oiled machine. You walk in and are immediately greeted and directed to the line. Where you are met with a buffet of baked goods. The husband and I ordered the Breakfast fit for a Goddess. Which was 2 eggs, bacon and toast. I ordered an iced dubai chocolate latte hubby ordered a hot mocha with whip. Then you are handed your receipt and a pager then told to stand off the the side so they know we are waiting to be seated. We were seated within 5 minutes. A communal table but it wasn't awkward. First came our drinks. Yummy! Then came my husbands plate and I thought mine was just late. Then my brother in law and his wife received their food so we asked. The gentleman said the cashier only charged us for one breakfast. He assured us he would take care of it. Within 5 minutes he had delivered my plate and adjusted our credit card charge. Like I said "well oiled machine." No argument. No making me feel incompetent. He just took care of it all.
