If you are looking for a relatively cheap buffet experience and happen to be in Alhambra, then look no further than Gold Hibachi! In a world where buffets are measured against the gold standards of places like Bacchanal in Las Vegas, most folks would probably make a hard pass on a place like this. But I am here to tell you, don't sleep on this place! Especially if you enjoy seafood items. Okay, let's get this important thing out of the way...if you are ONLY interested in places that serve steamed crab legs and that is an absolute minimum requirement for you, then stop reading this and just move on. Now then, if you enjoy variety of seafood and other Asian foods, then keep reading! 1. Seafood: very strong assortment of choices (see pictures). They have a rotation of a few items depending on when you come on any particular week or day, where I have seen steamed crab legs, fried whole blue crabs, or large steamed/boiled shrimp like what's pictured here in my recent visit. The main cooked seafood choices that you'll always find here include: baked mussels, fried shrimp in spicy salt, clams, sea snails, and crawfish. There is also steamed fish, mayonnaise shrimp, battered shrimp, assortment of sushi rolls, shrimp, salmon sushi, tuna sushi, sashimi (tuna, salmon, yellowtail), green mussels, and raw oysters! 2. Non-seafood: items you'd expect to find include Korean short ribs, stir fry beef, orange chicken, fried rice, chow mein, japchae, and salad bar/cold food options. 3. Hibachi/Mongolian grill: you pick for yourself a variety of meat options (chicken, beef, pork), vegetables (cabbage, onions, broccoli, bell peppers, mushrooms,), tofu, and noodles. Place your plate on the counter and wait for the kind employee prepare your plate. Not a lot of customization once you hand over your plate, but what do you expect? You can add your own extra sauces and seasonings afterwards! 4. Price: decent and fairly priced. Somewhere around $23 for adults. Slightly cheaper for senior citizens and children under 11. Oh my gosh I regret spending over $24 to put such disgusting things in my mouth. Absolutely do not go there. Everything is super gross. I think I spit out half of what I put on my plate because the moment I tried to taste them I just could not go through with it. The cold sashimi is absolutely disgusting with a weird plastic like taste. The clams are not just sandy they actually have pieces of rock in them. I don't think Gold Hibachi is all that bad. I might have lower standards for this type of buffet, but their food is decent [...when it comes out fresh and hot from the kitchen, heh]. Holidays get really busy. I remember having to wait 1-2 hours on Father's Day for lunch. But for dinner on a random week night, it was less than half full. The soups are great. I love the fish one and the beef bone one. There's self-serve Thrifty ice cream. I think they have 4-6 flavors, like green tea, coffee, vanilla, and mint. You can get Mongolian style noodles. You choose the ingredients and they cook it fresh for you. There's sushi, dessert/fruit, fried foods, and typical Chinese dishes like fish, meat, and veggies. They have a really big parking lot. I'm sad to report that today will be the last time I go here. I've been here several times this past year and today was the first time I was disappointed. First, they wanted to seat us at a booth next to the cleaning staff kiosk so we requested to seat a little further down the aisle which there were plenty of open booths. Second, the ladies' restroom was starting to smell like the plumbing pipes and water was running out of the men's restroom down the hallway. That's a slip and fall liability waiting to happen. Third, the cleaning staff which complied of about five people stood at the kiosk talking and blocking customers' path to the buffet area. Third, I was getting ready to go and saw a staff at the corner of my eye making me feel rushed. Fourth, it cost us $84 for the three of us and there wasn't anything special at 2pm on a Saturday. I didn't drive all the way from Glendale to pay this much to have this kind of service. This experience made my stomach sick so I will not continue my business here. Go at your own risk. read more

Haven't eaten here in a while. I do love their large selection and the food seems fresh and tasty. Perhaps it was a rough weekend (I was there on a Sunday evening) but things weren't quite as clean as I'd be comfortable with. The napkin dispenser needed a wipe down and the ice cream area was a mess. The top of the straw dispenser was wide open and I saw folks reaching in, rummaging for a straw. Cringe. It was a very interesting week - going from Golden Hibachi to Array 36 (go read my review). Golden Hibachi is supposedly the cheap end of Chinese/Japanese dining - all you can eat for around $25 per person, with endless SASHIMI... which was the selling point. I had never been to a buffet before and the concept never really appealed to me because I figure that one can only eat so much food. (I honestly don't think I am able to eat more than $25 worth of food anyway. ) But we decided to check out Golden Hibachi for the sashimi and sushi. We stuffed ourselves, maybe filling 3-4 plates. They also have Western food (fried chicken, fries etc.) and Chinese food (stir fries with even chicken feet and frog's legs), and a salad bar with oysters. We didn't dare touch the oysters, and to be honest, I was nervous about the sashimi... like, how long has it been sitting out like this? How fresh is it? Who knows? It was a weekend, and with taxes added, we actually paid over $30 per person which did not make the meal seem so cheap after all. The variety of a buffet is a fun thing to experience but I've decided that I would rather pay more for sashimi that I can trust, and spend $30+ on quality food. read more

We've been coming here for several years before the pandemic as our go-to buffet, to the extent that we were craving Asian buffets, and we're glad that the quality of the food has remain pretty stable. Pricing are as follows: Weekday lunch (11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) is $19.49 per person; Weekday seafood dinner buffet (Monday through Friday) is $23.49 per person; Weekend seafood dinner buffet (all day Saturday and Sunday) is $25.49 per person. Prices above is inclusive of drinks. Asian buffets are usually a hit or miss but this one seems to have been consistently good relative to the value (in light of inflation). Personally, I would never come here again. The selection is very limited, and the food tastes stale old and unpleasant. I honestly don't understand why this place is always so crowded. The staff spends a lot of time on their phones, including the sushi maker and the person working the other section, which is very unsanitary. Overall, the food looked dirty and poorly handled. I attended a reception on on a weekday for lunch. There's a great selection of sea food and others. There's a good selection of ice cream flavors for dessert. Family kept going without me telling me they have a good variety. Took a chance to go without them. Got in before the shift changeover. A nice lady greeted me and got me in fast. Though not too busy, Grill man was friendly and quick. Booth seat I had did not sink and was comfortable. Variety they do have here. However maybe it was not a great day for me. Hot food varied from not seasoned like the broccoli beef to the mixed baked seafood in the clam shell being too salty. Sushi bar was neat and definitely had some better variety than other buffet sushi bars. Sushi rice did not taste spectacular but good enough. If anything it was not mixed well or seasoned too lightly as most buffet sushi ends up. Seafood proteins and fillings of the rolls and nigiri tasted fine enough. Thai Iced tea was strange, looked more like coffee and tasted like a mix of coffee and tea or just not a good tea while it was slightly clumpy for something that came out of a dispenser machine. Dessert cakes and coconut macarons were surprisingly good. Good texture and flavor without being overly sweet. For the price charged, good enough. We love this restaurant because of the food, but the servers? Nah! Servers here are very disrespectful, I don't know if it is because they are all young and all they do it text or call to their cellphones. We always go here. But they are charging me $21.19 and I don't where the hack it came from. She showed me her calculator (in her cellphone), but she did not show me her computations. I mean, I don't really mind for a few cents but I just want to learn how they compute it. But this lady is already mad because I'm disturbing her "cellphone moments" because of me asking questions. She feels impatient with me already. I even asked her in a very polite way, "are you mad?", and she said no but action speaks louder than words. So I told her, "I'm sorry but I just want to learn you computation." But since she's already mad and impatient, I just let it go and pay for it. Probably the management wants to save money in paying younger employees, but they should be careful because no matter how good their food is, if their servers are rude, people will not go there anymore. I just hope the management can read this. This kind of people will not go places if their attitude are like that. It's just very sad because they are a famous restaurant, but the service is very bad. Came by to grab some dinner last week Wednesday. We saw that they had a variety of sashimi and sushi options so we wanted to come and give that a try for the reasonable price per person. Overall was OK, not too busy, so that was nice we were able to select our own seating. The food options were all opened and we helped ourselves around. Some of the sashimi and sushi options are great, however, one of them was a bit too fishy, and I think that's what made my stomach upset afterwards. However, the other options were pretty tasty and considering the price I would say relatively reasonable. It was pretty clean and the service is pretty quick to pick up finished plates. When I am craving for a large prawns and unlimited oysters, I always think of Gold Hibachi Buffet. The prices are affordable with you won't be disappointed. You get a free drink with that price too! My go to food there are fresh oysters, prawns with a side of Cajun butter from the shrimp boil, garlic noodles with scallops, salmon nigiri and sashimi, fish maw soup, shrimp boil, and the Mongolian noodles.
