On my way home from work, stopped by Gold Ranch Casino for gas and breakfast. I thought about just getting a sub sandwich from the attached "Port-of-Subs" counter but opted for the casino cafe. The cafe is called Sierra Cafe. The place was clean, smelled great and had a very good ambiance despite some slot machines nearby. My waitress was there to serve me within mere seconds of me sitting down. I order a special "Gamblers" . It included hot coffee, (2) biscuits w/ cream gravy, oven browned potatoes, scrambled eggs and bacon. The meal was prompt,delicious and very inexpensive. I will definitely be stopping by again real soon! Kudos to the waitress(Christina), the chef(s) , management and Golds Casino for a great dining experience! read more

My mother made me do it. This place is a must stop whenever we are in the area because it is by far the cheapest gas around. So we paid $4.17 (yikes!), but that is a steal compared to the $4.69 you pay in Truckee or Tahoe City. This is also just on the Nevada side of the state line, so you can gamble at the Gold Ranch Casino or grab some items from the convenience store. Every time I talk to my parents when we are headed to Tahoe, my mom reminds me to gas up here. Doesn't matter if I have half a tank already, I think she would know if I didn't stop. read more

This is not a review of the casino itself but only of the use of the restroom as a rest stop between Reno and Lake Tahoe. We parked easily. Found the bathrooms immediately. They were clean and plentiful. Despite the stench from the cigarette smoke, the bathroom was clean and smelled nice. It was convenient to enter into the main casino doors and find the restroom within a short walk. I didn't eat or gamble, but the restroom was great. read more

We were cut off twice to get to a pump and then were almost T-boned trying to get out. - To get to the restrooms, you have to walk through the very smokey very icky casino. Positives: -Bathrooms were clean - There are lots of pumps - Gas prices are compatible to prices in town - Had Squeegees and water at the pumps for window washing So, it is OK. GAs is cheaper here than in California, so if traveling West, it might make sense. read more

There was something about this seedy little cheap breakfast place that lured us in, it may have been the smoking casino with old people everywhere or it could have been the $2.99 eggs, bacon and pancake breakfast on the GIANT billboard out front, either way, we were there. We sat down quickly in the nearly empty establishment and were immediately greeted by a younger lady who wanted to let us know the specials and see if we wanted beverages. I ordered a coffee, water and mimosa. WIN! The mimosa is actually a glass of orange juice and split of champagne that you combine yourself in a glass for $5. Definitely a big win there. We learned quickly that you had to get a players card to get the cheap breakfast, but it didn't matter, the entire menu was decently priced for what you were getting. I ordered the ham and eggs and the boyfriend got the chicken fried steak. We were both impressed with the timeliness it came out (and i mean freaking quick!) and the amount of food we received. We both enjoyed everything we had, but the kicker was when we left. We paid our bill to the overly surly old lady at the register and signed for our tip ($6 on a $30 tab) and when we checked the bank statement later on, they entered the tip in for $9 instead. What is that about?!?!? How shady and assuming. You didn't serve us, the 6 didn't look like a 9 and $9 on a $30 meal? You didn't serve me with gold laced anything nor did I win a million dollars. We LOVE this little casino. It has been a 20 year ritual for us to stop off on our way home from Reno to get gas, eat at Sierra Cafe, and gamble for an hour. A trip would not be complete without stopping by. The place is very small (maybe 150 slots?) but quaint and has a nice selection of slots to play. Its nice to see some older slots along with new ones. Employees are always friendly and even has a cocktail waitress serving free drinks. They did finally get a cash ticket out machine within the last 3-4 years where you always had to cash out at the cash cage before. They have a players club too. There are no card tables. The bathrooms are surprisingly nicer than you would expect and clean. read more

The steak was like chewing on a tire that blew on the near by interstate. My bad for thinking a ribeye might taste good. Don't bother, make the safe choice and go for a burger and fries or something they can handle preparing at this gas station. Very poor service in Cafe and sandwich was awful. Ordered a French Dip...the bread was stale and the sandwich itself had no flavor. The fries were heavy with oil...ugh! We skipped Boomtown to come to The GOLD RANCH for their food at The Sierra Cafe based on a friend's recommendation. Not only we had a great meal at the Sierra Cafe but we enjoyed the few hours we spent here at the slot machines too. Staff here are all friendly, nice and always comes with a smile. We were greeted promptly and were asked if we would like a drink after sitting down for less than 10-mins! Great service! read more

I ate at the Sierra Cafe and got food poisoning from the meal of fish and chips and coleslaw. I've eaten there many times and never had an issue till now. I thought I was being nice and letting the casino know what happened and that was a mistake as this is the response I received. " I received your email yesterday, sorry you were not feeling well. I discussed this with our Food & Beverage Manager and the Chef at which time they investigated the incident and found both the Fish & Chips and Cole Slaw were made fresh that day.  Thank you for being a guest of the Gold Ranch, we look forward to seeing you again." The utter lack of concern is disappointing and the fact that I was just dismissed as a oh it's fine no big deal is horrible. My husband and I will not eat there anytime soon and instead will eat at Boomtown casino when we are in the area. Looking for a truckstop casino?!? The Gold Ranch the place for you. Tiny, smoky...kind of what it should be. I'm not sure why I have to mention this reviews--that casinos are smoky but it seems to be an issue for some. The truth is it's a real locals casino. The crew seems to be a bunch of old timers and neighbors people from nearby Verdi. Has real comfortable laid-back feeling to it. I didn't game. I was there to go to Café, that'll be a separate review. I did go into the shop. The staff was very friendly. Not only do they take care of the casino guests' sundry needs. They also manage the gas pumps and the requests from the folks just coming to fill up. I don't get that part of town very often but if someone said they wanted to go up there to hang, I'd go back. read more

Great place to play slots and eat. We live in Reno and go to GOLD Ranch quite often. They have a food store there 24/7 for snacks anytime. The staff are really friendly. Cool little truck stop casino. Nice Starbucks coffee shop express type place towards the back near the RV Park with indoor and outdoor seating, fire pit outside, and a nice view of the mountains. They also have a Jack in the Box, Port o Subs, Sierra Cafe (the food is pretty good here for a small diner/cafe), mini mart, gas station, and a bar/cantina place I think it is near the back. This casino sucks! It is strictly slot machines, let alone it is small and seems more like a place for the Truckee locals to come racing down to grab a couple of beers and play slots for a while. What in tarnation is this place? A Jack-n-the-Box? Convenience store? Gas Station? Casino? Restaurant? Bar? Bonnie & Clyde museum? Yes, yes it is. It was about 1 am and the Oldman got a wild hair to stop off at this spot after a long day of carousing in the Reno area. I really just wanted to get back to good ol' Sac town, and put my mac down. Wasn't none too thrilled as we drove up to what looked to be a gas station/Jack-in-the-Box. Good thing he put the car keys in his pocket, because I was ready to turn around and burn rubber outta there! But, where would I be without my Clyde (my shotgun partner on our frequent little road trips)? I humored him and thought we just run in, check it out and leave. But, it was I who got all a-flutter and a had to be goaded back to the car. As we walked in past the empty restaurant to the right and the little empty casino to the left, way in the back I spotted an old car (Ford V8) that looked like Swiss cheese! The sign read "Bonnie & Clyde Death Car". Another sign read "Please do not touch the Death Car, it's considered Unlucky" - Nice way to put "keep your grubby hands off". There were other artifacts such as a beaded necklace and embellished mirror that Clyde made for his dear sister and Bonnie, respectively (to show his gentle, artistic side), newspaper articles, and the bullet-riddled shirt Clyde was wearing in the "Death Car". Sad. Too bad they were bad guys... I was hoping for more of a non-violent Beyonce & Jay-Z happy road-trip-into-the-sunset ending. Anyway that was a cool little bright spot to this place. Oh, and the convenience store was well-stocked with just about anything one could need for the ride home... me - I grabbed and chugged down a nice big Monster Coffee Light energy drink - pushed the button to START, threw the car into gear and told my Clyde, "hold on, it's gonna be a bumpy ride!" read more

The bathroom stop we made inside Gold Ranch in Verdi was successful. Nice, clean restrooms. After visiting the facilities, our trio walked around a little bit and found a giant teddy bear: awesome. There was a young man conducting some sort of player's club game over a loudspeaker as he walked around. He was good-looking and really enthusiastic about whatever loyalty game they were playing. Most of the rest of the people we saw were much less enthusiastic and sat expressionlessly staring at screens while pushing buttons with cigarettes in hand. A sports bar sat off the front gambling room and looked a little more lively and happy than the area we first walked into. We didn't stay long, didn't even have a drink, but it was a cool stop. I like small casinos like this place - they're all unique in their own way - and it's a huge plus when they're convenient and bathrooms are clean. read more

Ok we have been here three times over a couple of years, the last time a week ago. Each time we say we will not be back but figure oh what the heck give it another shot. No shots left in this gun. The place is fine as far as a standard coffee shop goes in regards to décor. The service is always friendly, but achingly slow. This last time was not busy yet it took 24 minutes to get two burgers. The burgers were not good, simple as that. Over cooked is the standard no matter how one orders them. I ate half and left the rest to posterity. We have not had one good meal so I guess it is truly time to give up. Oh yeah and the old lady taking the money said hi to the folks in front of us and as were being rung up said hi to the folks behind us but not once did she look at us or say a single word. A recent visit to Nevada included a stop into Gold Ranch after we'd exhausted stops in at other area casinos. You may have remembered my somewhat scathing review before where I judged this book by its cover but once you set foot then you discover more charm than harm. They have a reasonable amount of slots and even a decent coffee bar that serves Starbucks coffee however doesn't have that corporate droll of a feel (can't you tell I've lost love for "Buckies)? They were friendly, the place is clean with exception of the lovely tobacco wafts. Likely will return for another whirl but maybe an oxygen mask next time heh. read more

Took 30+ minutes to seat us when we were told there was a 15 minute wait. Another 10-15 for the waitress to take our order and 30 more minutes for our food to be brought and the waitress said they made French toast instead of an omelet when we ordered French toast, very frustrating and took even longer. Will not be coming back again ever. There were At least 7 empty tables and they weren't seating anyone. This is a review for the conveniences at Gold Ranch and not the casino or restaurant. This is the bathroom/energy drink/gas stop before all road trips. The bathrooms are always clean and stocked. The convenience store is typical but very large so they do stock itemds not found at others. Seemingly their wine selection actually seems to be decent and they have quite a bit of souvenir merch if you failed to grab presents while you were in town. Oh, there's lotto in the back of the parking lot but I've never actually been to that building. **If you play Ingress there are 2 portals in the parking lot! read more

I usually stop here for last fill up on the way back home from Reno. The gas at this station is more expensive than in Reno but still less expensive than in California. I used to raid their candy jar full of Jolly Ranchers before leaving. Finding the watermelon ones was difficult, but I managed. I've stopped here many, many times because it was halfway home between Reno and Truckee. This place holds a nostalgia for me, since I've eating many a fill burger or French dip sandwich here after a long weekend excursion or busy shopping day. Service has always been good - generally, it's a little ol' lady with curly silver hair or a young college kid with a part time job. It's quiet and typical of most restaurants with casino in-tow. Seats are brightly colored, carpet is tiled images of exotic flowers, and cigarette smoke has seeped into the wallpaper after so may years. Stuff that may normally turn up noses welcomes me in with memories of younger days. Food has always been decent for roadside fare. It's the typical smörgsbord you might expect from an "American" joint, like burgers, pasta, steaks, chicken wings, and salads. As long as I've been going here, they always bring out a small, buttery loaf of bread before dinner that's a nice treat. Don't expect gourmet brilliance, but also don't expect a bland, soupy, unappetizing mess on your plate, either. One thing, though: if you have to go to the bathroom, you have to walk through the casino. Lame. read more

We stopped in here because we were hungry, I like breakfast foods, and 3$ was a bargainnnnn. But, alas, I needed to be a "player" and a member of the "players club" for such a bargain. So I shelled out 6$ for a different breakfast that did not include bacon. Huff. I like bacon. My food was ok, but my partner got a chicken wrap thing that was atrocious. Hey, you can't beat $2.99 for a breakfast that isn't any worse than your typical Denny's. That's 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 bacon or sausage. We saw the big billboard sign on our way up to Reno. Its great for people on a budget coming back home; gas up and have breakfast here. Just sign up for their players card to avail the breakfast special. This place is probably one of the nicer gas stations to pull off and fuel up. They have self service gas, Jack-In-The Box, restaurant, gaming, and California lottery tickets. They offer a $2.22 breakfast special which is good for the price. The gas used to be a lot cheaper when AM/PM was the gas station. If I could give negative stars I would. My family and I ate there the other night and it was barely edible. The kids shared a large cheese pizza. It was a frozen pizza (obviously) and was burnt. It was disgusting. My husband and I both ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes. I ordered rare and him medium. Mine was raw. His was rare. The gravy on the potatoes made me sick. Tasted like they came from a can. We were very disappointed because we've had breakfast there several times and it was ok. Gas pumps never seem to be able to print a receipt and you never seem to have enough people working inside. Always long wait to go inside just to get a receipt and stand behind all the tourist traffic needing to buy beer on their way to Tahoe. i went to there gas station at 4am this morning.dropped 40 dollars in gas.i told the old lady cashier.the old hag!! i said i just filled up my car with gas.i showed the old hag the gas receipt i explain to her can you please hit the button for the air.she went off on me she said there is no button to hit for air.she said you have to pay with a credit card or by coins! i said how much in coins.she said i dont know! . we have nothing to do with the air and water out side.so i asked her 4 quarters for a dollar. i said thank you.she put the 4 quarters .did not even say you are welcome. went to pump air.its 8 quarters. how the hell you going to work in the gas station .and the air and water is on gas station property.and tell me i dont no nothing about the air and water.its o.k. i will refuse to spend my hard earn money 400 plus a month in gas.i can take my bussiness else where in gas! also all the waitresses that work in the restaurant are all hard working and very nice people! that old lady should be fired. read more

Just ate in the cafe. First of all the food took 30 minutes to come out. When it finally did my husbands breakfast was cold & bland. He ended up sending it back and we shared my "just okay" pastrami sandwich with cold fries. They also took 10 minutes to bring out my sons toast that came with his meal. Pancakes were dry & not very fluffy. More like rubber. Never again!!!! read more
