I was working DoorDash and someone ordered from here. The restaurant is not very visible from the street and I wondered how they discovered it. I ordered orange peel chicken. We've come over the years and always enjoyed it but tonight was maybe the best ever. Everything was beautiful and delicious - really fantastic. The six of us agreed it was a perfect dinner. We had an opportunity to chat with the owner if this place, very nice man. It was a great experience talking with him while we waited as he was very friendly and I thought this was gone be a good setup for a delicious meal. NOPE, the food was horrible and my eggs rolls were t even edible as they were greasy, so much that grease was sitting in the bottom of the container, GROSS. Lousiest food I had ever tasted. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and it tasted like nothing. Then I ordered the Shrimp with Lobster sauce. They messed that one up too. If you are a Asian person, never go to this restaurant. You will be so very disappointed in the quality and flavor of food. Golden Dragon is a long time established favorite for Chinese cuisine in the South Orange County area. Our family has been eating in & ordering out from here for over 40 years. Key & her son John have always been excellent hosts & are so welcoming whenever we dine with them, & I have so many memories of enjoying their great food for everything from birthdays to graduations, anniversary parties & more. I think it's a shame that the quality has gone way down at this place. It was probably my favorite Chinese restaurants to go to as a kid but everything has changed for some reason. Even my parents noticed it as well. I ordered honey walnut shrimp, Mongolian beef, as well as their house fried rice to go. No problems there with ordering but spent around $50 alone for those 3 dishes and that was with tip. Spending that much money, I expected the quality to be top notch. The honey walnut shrimp was just bland tasting. It still had the crunch but what happened to the taste of the sauce? The Mongolian beef just had too much sauce on it. It was not good at all that we had to throw away the left overs. The house fried rice was also bland tasting! I loved this place as a child but I feel like everything has changed in terms of the quality of their food. With the price I paid, I can not recommend this place to anyone looking for a pricier, quality tasting Chinese restaurant. It makes me sad cause the grandma is still there greeting everyone with a smile and saying, "see you tomorrow!" To everyone that leaves. She's probably the only reason why I would give this place two stars instead of one. My buddy and I decided to go in and try a late dinner on Monday night. Loved the old school decor in fact it reminds me of down town LA. Anyhow we ordered the dinner special for $16.95 a person and it was pretty good. I usually never do Chinese food but it was really enjoyable with fresh the vegetables. I am glad we stumbled into these fine restaurant. Our server was polite but i can tell he was exhausted and struggled to hold a smile. Over all. I've ordered take out from here 3 times now and each time I've been satisfied. My 2 favorite dishes are sweet & sour pork and the family bean curd. Highly recommend both. I've reordered those dishes because it was so good. I've also tried some other dishes but they weren't as memorable and was average. Been awhile since I've given a review here, 5 star maintained Peking Duck, best in Orange County still, order at least a day ahead but well worth it! Perfect buns, perfectly cooked moist meat butchered properly and skin flavorful and exactly right crispy. Hoisin Sauce to top it off, yum! Orange Chicken, fantastic and tasteful, just the right amount of spice for that tangy kick. Crispy Wonton, beefy perfection! Is there ZERO stars? I ordered 20 entrees for my guests and the food was INEDIBLE that I had to place it in the garbage! The beef and chicken didn't taste like meat, the noodles smelled horrible, and the vegetables were slimy! I called the restaurant and the manager instead of providing me with customer service told me "it's impossible" and asked me to FAX the pictures of the trashed food. You can see them below instead, since I can't fax and asked him to provide me with an email address, he said no fax is the only way. I have heard both good and bad things about the food at Golden Dragon. Tonight, I got to experience the bad. First let me say that the service was very good and all staff were welcoming. However, I paid $7 for 2 eggrolls with burned bottoms and no taste or evidence that there was chicken, pork inside. Looked like ground up vegetables. And the mushi pork was half scrambled egg and undercooked mushrooms with very little pork. Had to add hoisin (plum) sauce just to give it some taste. $18. So for a barely mediocre meal for one that cost $35 including tip, I know that I won't go back to be disappointed again. This food resembled neither east or west coast Chinese cuisine. I doubt after 40 years, they will up their game enough for me to want to go there again. Too bad. read more

For a Chinese restaurant where there are lots of round tables, that is a surprising hospitality. I got the Dinner for One Combintion. I asked what they would recommend and he said the Mongolian beef ($12.95). I was surprised too because sometimes restaurants recommend the most expensive item lol but he didn't. Turned out to be good like he said. The beef was super tasty and flavorful, borderline salty, but when I ate it with the rice it was good. The rice was fried rice btw. The egg roll was HUGE. It was fried, and inside was cabbages and ground beef/pork. The fried wonton was okay. A bit oily but ok. It also came with wonton soup. Got soooooo full. Well worth it for $12.95. Since my fave Chinese restaurant closed in Costa Mesa I've been looking for a replacement. G.D had quick take out service on a Tuesday night. Very friendly people. Food : Shrimp in lobster sauce was good but a tad salty. Broccoli beef was ok and Kung Pao chicken was a bit too spicy for what I like. The place inside had no people dinning but otherwise clean. Overall an ok place to get your Chinese food fix but don't expect much. read more

Starting with the Wonton Soup...TERRIBLE - the mystery meat was awful and the broth tasted like dish water. Appetizer plate. Not a single item was worth mentioning. Ribs- were chewy with lots of fat, Paper chicken - texture like compressed cat food with a very odd (gross) taste. Battered Deep Fried Shrimp -zero flavor and there was so much batter the SHRIMP were MIA. Fried wonton -tasted just like the soup but deep friend -what kind of meat is that? Egg-Rolls - I expected they'd be fine but I was wrong. They cut them on a bias so you can see whatever it is they fill them with- we SAW it but had not a clue as to what it was. Lots of green opaque veggies and no flavor at all. Next are our main courses. Kung pao Dinner (ME)...very spicy and lots of odd flavored items in the dish... took two bites and ordered a second Tsing Tsao Beer. My wife ordered the Mongolian Beef dinner but was so disappointed with everything thus far she finished her drink and asked for two "to go" boxes... we decided they needed "to go" into the garbage . Just an awful dining experience and with all of the 5 star YELP reviews we thought it'd be great The bill came to $103.85 with an 18% tip. (the wait staff was very good and my Tsing Tsao Beer was great. This was my wife's birthday dinner and I'm just glad we decided to go by ourselves because it was our first time there...Thank GOD. A dying breed of old school Chinese restaurant. It used to be better. I ordered king pao chicken for lunch, overpriced at $17, had to ask to get tea, it was brought automatically before, and I asked for extra garlic which was scooped out of a jar that use's preservatives. That disqualifies ANY restaurant as deserving these prices. If the chef can't chop fresh garlic then you're a third class establishment. It tasted awful. There's much better Asian fare out there. The Golden Dragon has been in my life since I was a kid. While my specific dish preference has changed, there are so many things about Golden Dragon that have stayed consistent. You are greeted with warmth and genuine gratitude and joy for coming to the restaurant. Typically said goodbye to with a "See you tomorrow!" Now, with COVID, it is a pickup and take home experience. Our food was ready to go when we arrived and safety precautions in place. Broccoli beef was my go to as a kid but this time (and most often now), I prefer the spice of the Szechwan shrimp...delicious! Other items I love include the Mongolian beef, Kong pao chicken, walnut shrimp (a little sweet for my preference but a good one to share), and always the hot and sour soup (although it might not be available for takeout at this time).
