We've had issues with no hot water periodically not working and often the hot water heater or pipes making these loud clanking noises - often followed by no hot water. Most often the hot water will come back, but there have been times when there's no hot water but only cold water for days on end - a couple of times seemingly indefinitely. Last winter, we had no hot water for many consecutive days, and we were able to get another plumber to come over. He was nice and sympathetic but confused on what was the matter. It seemed as if he was going to leave without fixing the matter, but finally - I think at my suggestion (?) - drained the hot water heater. It seemed to work, and we had our hot water worked. However, the clanking issues and the threat of no hot water remained. Our hot water went out one more time the next month, so I drained the water heater myself, and that seemed to have done the trick. Fast forward to Labor Day weekend, and once again, the same clanking sounds, followed by sputtering hot water, and then finally no hot water. I drained the water heater, but that did nothing this time. I called back that same plumber back, but he and his guys were booked until later that week. So I called Goode Plumbing. After a couple of phone tags - after all, this was Labor Day Saturday - Mike said that he was able to come over that day. He came over, and despite stating that we had a weird, unusual issue, worked really hard and spent a decent amount of time. He finally was able to do more than just drain the water heater, took some of the pipes connecting to the water heater apart, and was able to fix it. In the three weeks since, we've had no issues - not clanking sounds coming from the pipes and no hot water sputtering, which means no more not having hot water. I hope this continues...knock on wood. But this is the longest in years we've had no clanking and problems with the hot water. Thanks to Mike. On short notice, Goode Plumbing came to my house to clear a blocked drain and blocked toilet, doing a very good job. While they were there, we asked and received an estimate for re-piping our lines, which were very old and, at certain joints, leaking. After considering the proposal, we called back and asked them to do the job. Ron, who came out initially and with whom we were satisfied, was booked for several days. However, he and Ken came in on the weekend, fitting us between the other jobs. I am glad they were able to accommodate us. They worked quickly without taking shortcuts, pointing out some problems we had and how they were going to be fixed. They explained why they used certain materials (e.g., thicker gauge copper, different shutoff valves, etc.). They seemed to accept us hovering over them as they worked, answering questions we had. They double-checked their work and listened intently for water flow and small leaks. Ron found one small leak in my toilet and replaced the "innards", rejecting a part that he had brought because he heard a small leak that I could not detect and went to a different part to solve the leak. Basically, both Ron and Ken took pride in their work and the problem-solving and craftsmanship showed. They also were proud of their company. It has a good reputation and, in a small job several years ago, I used them and was quite pleased with the work and the suggestions that were made (regarding a drum trap in the bath tub and keeping the drains clear with monthly treatments). I would definitely call Goode Plumbing again and would ask if these two gentlemen were available for work. I suspect the project could have been done a little more cheaply, but the end product would not be the same. Additionally, there were things that Ron and Ken found and fixed that were not in the original estimate. However, they did not charge extra for these. Perhaps a lower bid would have tacked those adjustments onto their bill and we would have paid the same for lesser work. In short, their work was quite, uh, goode. read more

I love finding small businesses to support! I have a plumber for life. I have used Goode for home and work and I could not be happier. Every person I have spoken to on the phone or dealt with on the job has been helpful, friendly, honest and professional. At my house, the technician, Brian, went above and beyond to fix my toilet which would not stop running. Although I didn't ask, he anticipated that my second toilet would start running, too, and he was right. He fixed it as well - very proactive! I have a warehouse for my company and Goode has done extensive work there, too. My landlord won't lift a finger and the plumbing was a mess, so the technician, Reggie, took care of us! He fixed the copper pipes that burst over the winter (because the landlord didn't show us how to turn off the water properly), he rodded drains that had not been cleaned in eons - and what he found in them defies description. He checked the bathroom and discovered that the toilet and sink were backing up. He had to come back to fix those. The sink was not installed properly so that is still awaiting repairs, but he got the toilet working which is so helpful. He was honest, delightful, thorough and tidy. He will have to come back another time to fix the sink. It was expensive because the plumbing had been neglected and past repairs were shoddy. I will take that up with the landlord. I knew it was going to be costly, but I now know the work was done properly by a good company. The woman who coordinates the schedules and dispatches the plumbers, Keri (spelling?) is the best! I could talk to her for days. She is really good at her job and very pleasant on the phone. I could tell she really cares about the customers. I spoke to the owner, Mike, briefly, and he was great too. Small businesses like Goode make the world a better place. I like dealing with people who are professional, honest, amiable and thorough. I found Goode Plumbing through a referral from Community Home Supply. I wanted to be sure to find someone decent - I wasn't even hoping to find someone actually good that I would want to use again. I've been burned by plumbers before and dreaded another encounter. So I am happy to report that I am quite pleased by the work Mike did for us. We had a longish list for him: install a new sink, fix a dripping faucet, figure out why our outdoor faucet stopped working, replace a part on a toilet so that it would flush without having to hold down the handle, and rod out the downspout drains that go to the sewer. Mike did great work and I didn't have to look over his shoulder to make sure he did what he said he would do. He even replaced the toilet part (that had been installed by a different plumber) and installed the new cartridges I had bought for the faucet free of charge. I can't say how his prices compare to other plumbers because I have learned from experience that with something as important as plumbing you want to find someone you can trust more that you want to find the cheapest guy. Mike came out first to give us a quote for the work, which I really liked. It wasn't one of those experiences where work is done and mystery charges are added on. The bill was exactly what he had quoted. While he was in my home he was quiet and pleasant and helped me learn the things I wanted to know about my plumbing system. (Things like, why are there so many valves to shut off the water to the house? Which one do I really need to use? If I ever want to fix this faucet myself how do I do it?) We'll be asking Mike come out to give us a quote on getting a couple of battery backups installed on our ejector pumps in the basement. I have used Goode plumbing quite a few times on projects from general pipe repair issues to installing a tankless hot water heater. I have been extremely satisfied every time they come out to do a job. I have dealt with a lot of contractors as I have done a lot of home improvements. And the one thing I know is, contractors are usually tough and difficult to deal with from things like quoting the job fairly and in good faith, doing the job the right way and not cutting corners, to simply being on time, clean and not leaving your place in a mess. Goode Plumbing is the one contractor where I know I have a great contact (by far) so that when I have a project or need, it's a no brain-er. I know everything will be taken care of in a manner that is timely and with a lot of diligence, care and expertise. Goode is not necessarily the cheapest contractor out there, but they are also not the most expensive by any means. And I think anyone who knows about hiring contractors - the cheapest is many times a lot more trouble, headaches, mess, and in the end more money anyway as you get nickle and dimed from the original quoting. The price that Goode quotes for a project is the price you pay . . period. And their work is always backed up. If they do something for you and for some reason does not turn out to be 100% satisfactory (which is very rarely), then they will come back out right away and spend the time to ensure it's touched up the correct way as they want you to be happy with their quality of work . . .and it shows. We had a few nagging plumbing problems that needed repairing: broken flapper in toilet on 2nd floor, leaking kitchen sink and broken pop-up sink stopper. We used Angie's List to find a plumber and came across Goode Plumbing. The company had quite a few reviews and seemed the most favorable of the group of plumbing companies listed. We reached out to the company and Mike Goode responded. We found Mike to be patient, pleasant and professional. He promptly responded to my questions - both email and text - and came out himself to provide the estimate. Mike again was very patient with us in answering other questions/concerns we had about the proposed work. Once we had agreed to move forward with the work, we setup a time with his person at the office - who was also very pleasant and professional. Mike arrived within the time frame given, was respectful in not tracking snow and dirt through our home, and performed the work in less than 2 hours. I have used Goode several times in the past for various issues, with great results. This recent time was related to my hot water heater. I got quick help with making an appointment and they dispatched a team next day. I wound up needing a new hot water heater (I figured, since it was 9 years old and had stagnant water in the drip pan that I was oblivious to). The team included Nick Beall, who went above and beyond to make sure my questions were answered (even on a separate job I asked about) honestly and thoroughly. Great service, so professional and a downright nice guy as well! He and his partners (they came back next day since a neighbor's car was blocking access to my walk-up) were so upfront about what the risks were on the secondary project - they made it clear that they could try, but the outcome might not be what I wanted due to the way my new construction condo bldg was thrown together (costs were cut - enough said). My basement flooded and I was told by numerous builders and plumbers that I needed a new sump pump. We got 4 opinions on how to solve the water issues and Goode provided the strongest explanation. He also suggested we take a camera to make sure that all the drain tiles were installed properly around the house. We went with Goode because he offered a 3 year warranty for the work they did which is unheard of in the plumbing business. Mike stands by his work. He installed a new sump pump and battery back up. While running the camera he discovered a pipe that didn't lead to anywhere and wasn't capped off. Though he gave an estimate our builder sent a guy over to fix the pipe that Goode correctly said was an issue. His workers were very professional as well. He has positive ratings on Angies List as well so is very busy. So many plumbers can't address an issue without tearing up a bunch of stuff. Best Plumbing Company Ever. This is the very first review I have ever given, who has the time. I just had to stop and let others know about Goode , Ron just replaced by shut off valves in my bathroom sink and put in a new faucet. My 30 yr old faucet was making a very loud noise and the water would not turn off all the way. Ron took the time to explain what he was doing and showed me the old rusted fittings that just crumbled away. I am very please with the work. Since this house is 100 years old something is always breaking , I am always able to get a Saturday appointment so I don't miss any work. Ron also was just here a few months ago to fix my toilet. He is very knowledgeable and offered different price options. I have been using Goode for years and really don't trust many companies. Goode is the exception. Recently bought a house that had an existing sewer backflow flood control system that didn't work in the recent big summer storms. Had several contractors out to review and provide proposals, including the big names that advertise heavily as specialists. Trevor from Goode had the best knowledge of Chicago housing stock and was able to point out problems with the original system that others missed. Bottom line, it was clear the previous owners of the house found some cheap contractor that did this without a permit and inspections. Having an engineering background myself, watching the old one come out and the new one go in, it was like night and day seeing how much better Goode's system is and what they did to ensure access to all the maintainable parts (unlike the last one). To anyone considering major flood protection work for their home, this is one area not to cut corners. I needed a new water heater installed and when Mike the owner, came out to my home he went over numerous types of water heaters that would work for my type of home and the needs I had. After spending about a hour going over everything with Mike I choose a eternal water heater. Mike explained everything to me and we were good to go. We set up a appointment for the following week that worked for my schedule. When the Goode plumbing team arrived they were very courteous, wore shoe covers, kept me informed of what they were doing at all times. From estimate to installation of two Eternal water heaters, I could tell that these guys had a lot more experience and integrity than most. They arrived on time, took the time to answer all of my questions clearly, and stayed late to finish the job. My tenants were ecstatic.Their uniforms were clean, the work area was immaculate, and most importantly- the units work great. Ron led a team that diagnosed that our sewer line needed to be replaced and the worked to replace the line. The project took about a week, and they worked on an aggressive schedule, minimized downtime, and worked on their days off to get the project done. Ron communicated with us each day what to expect, anything new that came up, and what to expect the next day. They intentionally tried to minimize damage to our landscaping that had to be dug up in the process of replacing the sewer line. They took care of all the project pieces so there was little we had to do. I think they might run a little higher in cost, but we never doubted we were getting quality work that followed city code. So my bathtub decided that it didn't want to work on a Friday evening. Being a person who takes a shower daily (sometimes 2 a day), I couldn't imagine not being able to shower. I called NUMEROUS business for a plumber. I was told they don't service my area, and some were so rude I just hung up. Then I called Goode and talked to Chris. He was polite and professional. Once he had the ok he could service where I lived, he arrived promptly. Chris immediately got to work. It didn't take long to unplug my tub. Brian and his assistant Brendan were here just 4 hours after my 8:30AM call. Goode's dispatch process kept us updated (3 calls and texts) on time for arrival. Our kitchen drain turned out to be a challenge, and they worked steadily on it (an old 3-flat has many quirks) for two hours. Very professional, even replacing at no cost some deteriorated under-sink pipes. Brian also provided a quote on correcting the drain setup to avoid repeats. Cost was appropriate. This was excellent service. As they packed up to leave, Brian even took time to answer my questions on our ancient catch basin, opening it outdoors for a quick inspection.
