I want to start off by saying that my experience with staff during my visits has always, ALWAYS been great. From the very first time I walked in and sat at the bar with my friend, every bartender has been great, friendly, engaging, very much excited to talk about the products, excellent drinks. Terrific. I liked it so much that I wanted to throw an event there and this is where my experience turns left. I emailed the events coordinator, no response. We actually went back and spoke with staff and they said they'd also try to send an e-mail. Nothing. When the events manager said it would require paying for the entire space and quoted me an astronomical number which obviously I didn't even entertain. Fast forward to that day and I brought some people there for cocktails anyway. There were like 6 people-I was quoted like 7500 to close out the room. I doubt they made 7500 that day, and now it makes sense that they've been 'temporarily closed' for a few months.

They do have a beer on draft that they get from St. Elmo's next door and they call it the bananaweisen because they infuse banana into the beer. This is a unique venue in that it's a bit off the beaten path near driftwood, up in a hilly area. GPS guided us there just fine. The distillery is attached to a church and wedding venue, and the wizard academy (which our friend attended for his whiskey sommelier certification). I think the distillery is their own separate business and entity but the property all seems like one thing. The bartender said crowded barrel isn't run or connected to the wizard academy but they are friendly given the shared love of whiskey. At the whiskey academy, so somewhere on the property, is the wizard's whiskey vault. Now that's a room I'd like to get into. But, I'm not trying to be a whiskey Somme, so I'll likely never see it in person. We had a few cocktails and couple of straight pours. If we had come earlier in the day, I would have done a flight in addition, to get more tastes. Come with at least an hour to spend here. I enjoyed the Anejo agave (tequila) spirit and we bought a bottle of the Snake Wood Whiskey. This is a fun and uniquely flavored whiskey. It's a bourbon finished with Brazilian Amburana Oak which lends an interesting cinnamon like taste. But it's not cinnamon, it's like reminiscent of baking spices. Very tasty. The staff were friendly and happy to chat about whiskey. We enjoyed our time there, wish we had been able to spend just a little bit longer but such is life :)

We went into the Bottle Shop & Mercantile building which has a tasting bar with tables & chairs, and a sitting area with a big screen tv. They have lots of outdoor seating area to enjoy with live entertainment. Pet friendly. You can also do a tour of the distillery which we did not get to do, but will go back soon to do it. Met a friend who lives in Dripping Springs at Dripping Springs distillery (DSD) to here some music…read more While we missed the live music, it was a great opportunity to catch up, DSD is known for their vodka and gin. We sat outside under the wooden canapy patio. A cool breeze permeated throughout the patio. The wind was gently blowing and branches on the oak trees swayed back and forth. So peaceful...there were a number of family and friends groups chatting it up. My friend ordered a pizza and I got hamburger and fries. We were pleased with our meals. It was self-pickup. There is a pick-up window in the center of the building. No table service. Although it is a distillery, the standout is the family orientation and focus on connection. The back yard is huge with yard games. There were about 20 children playing in the yard.

But I am so very glad that I got to experience a beer from Blue Owl. I really enjoyed it a lot! The beer that Steve and I had was called Spirit Animal. This beer was a sour and a pale ale that was kind if blended together it seemed making it very unique and tasty! Nothing in the flavor profile was too sweet about it at all. The sour feature was in full effect and it was great! Flavors to detect and have fun with this beer are sour, tart, hoppy and dryness. I think that part, the dryness I liked best. The beer is nice and light bodied which is a great fit for when Austin cranks up the southwest and summer heat!

I had no idea what to expect from Texas wine, but I was honestly pleasantly surprised. The day started at the Austin Visitor Center where we met with our tour guide and other guests. Then we hopped on our sprinter van and headed about 40 min outside of town to start our tour at Driftwood Winery. I really enjoyed the wines and we ended up purchasing a bottle to enjoy along the tour. Next, we went to Fall Creek Vineyards. This setting was beautiful, but I didn't love the wines as much. I did love that they had plenty of snacks so you could make your own charcuterie board. Snacks are a must when drinking wine all day. Last, we ended closer to the city in the St. Elmo District at Austin Winery. The tour is about $70 and then you pay for your wines at each stop. I had a fabulous time with our tour guide and tour mates. Would reccomend this if you're looking for a day excursion in Austin.
