Let me start by saying I've only been here on Sundays around 12pm and I've only ever had their donuts. The donuts are pretty good, definitely above average for San Diego. Ive never had a stale donut here; the only criticism I can say is that on one or two occasions one has been a teeny bit greasy but still it's a donut and not a bad one at that. Every time I walk in the people who run the shop are always so genuine and friendly. That alone makes me want to come back. read more

A pretty average donut place. The usual donuts are there, at the time $1.10 each. I tried a regular glaze donut, and it was quite dense and thick but still soft and chewy. It didn't have any greasy after taste, so that's a plus. read more

My husband and I were craving donuts and the one place we know we like is a good drive away so we looked to Yelp for some guidance. $8 and several donuts later we were on our way to satisfying our craving. We got several different donuts to try: chocolate long john, red velvet, blueberry cake, buttermilk with chocolate, apple fritter, and some apple turnover donut (it has been a week so my memory is foggy). The long john (which is my favorite donut EVER and the one I get every shop I go to, to test against the best chocolate long john I have ever had, was lacking. It had almost no frosting compared to the amount of dough you have. It also tasted stale. We went on a Saturday around 10am so the donuts were not super fresh but should not have tasted so bland. Since we had so many donuts we saved some for the next day. Sadly the donuts were almost non edible not even 24 hours later. The only one that tasted ok was the apple fritter and I feel it only survived as it is coated in sugar and bound together by the glaze. My search for great donuts continues. read more

On a sinful donut exploration. This place has the most yeasty (is that a word) raised donut ever...its big, fluffy, cheap and so delicious. I also love to bring home the donut holes to family for treats..a good variety and fresh..but hold up! They had a rasberry filled buttermilk bar the other day!? Forget KFC finger licking good! Walked in and all of the donuts looked like they had been sitting around for a week. There were only like 4 different donut flavors available, and like I said, they were all old looking. The lady completely skipped me and helped the next guy that had just walked in the door because he was a regular. I ended up just walking out. Wow, what a hidden gem! Right down the street from the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel and in the same strip mall as the CVS. The doughnuts are HUGE! We got here at 10:00am on a Saturday and the case was packed with homemade doughnuts. The most expensive doughnuts are $1.35 each, which to this East Coaster is very cheap! Coffee was decent, service was friendly, and the local older folks seemed very proud of their little hangout. Pictures of regulars line the wall and this shop even functions as a contract Post Office! They have ice cream and sandwiches too. Goody's is now on my list for San Diego gems! read more

I was debating between going to a fancier looking cafe bakery shop across the street or this hole in the wall doughnut shop. Needless to say I chose the latter and I don't regret it one bit. I picked what I thought was a Boston cream doughnut, turned out to be a regular chocolate bar. Either way it looked pretty good so I decided to get it. The cashier (the owner?) Told me she was more than glad to put some creame in there. I told her I didn't want to trouble her but she said it was super easy. So along with a Boston cream I got a medium sized iced coffee. All for less than 5 bucks. After I took a bite out of the doughnut I knew I'd be coming back. The doughnut was filled generously with cream and ice coffee didn't taste any different from any fancy coffee shop you go to. Not to mention great customer service If you're looking for a good priced coffee and doughnut I highly reccomend this place. :) read more

This is a family favorite. They sell out pretty early and don't seem to make more throughout the day. Definitely try the donut holes.

There's nothing particularly stand out appealing by the decor but this place has the BEST glazed donuts and croissants. Literally will go out of my way to come here if we need some for a meeting. Definitely will stay coming here read more

I have been on a donut frenzy for about the past year and have been trying many different shops. This is one of the better donut shops I have been to in San Diego! The prices are very cheap, donuts are delicious, and the customer service is outstanding. I believe it is a family owned and operated business and they are always happy to see me and even throw in free donuts sometimes (maybe because I come here at least once a week). I live in the neighborhood which makes this donut shop even better. Their selection is usually always full and plenty of variety to choose from. I got a dozen donuts one day for under $10 too! Some of my favorites: Apple Fritter- Superb! Lots of cinnamon and apples and has a crunch to it which makes it even more amazing! Not to mention it's the size of my head! Blueberry Cake- The best blueberry donut I've had..soft delicious blueberry amazingness Buttermilk Bars- They are huge and so good! I recommend the maple or plain glazed (the chocolate iced one was a bit too much icing) French Cruller- Goody's crullers don't disappoint Red Velvet- Great orange cake- good coconut-good donut holes (multiple varieties)- just okay Plain glazed, old fashioned, twist, long john- all were meh ... A donut shop that cant make a decent plain glazed can't get 5 stars Every other donut I have had here has been good. My neighborhood donut shop! The owners have been in business for years and they have always been consistently friendly. Like any other place, the best time to come here is first thing in the morning when the donuts are fresh and you get first dibs on what you want. I have had the mishap of coming in at a later time and the donuts I wanted were all sold out! I love their donut holes, especially original glaze and they sell out quick! Good to note that its not just donuts they sell. Sunny donuts also offers ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies, coffee, sandwiches, and specialty pastries like cream puffs and brownies. We went here while our son was at the hospital to grab a quick breakfast. My husband had been sleeping at the hospital to stay with him for a week and I was still recovering from having our son. We were having a hard time, to say the least. When we walked in, the girl serving donuts was full of cheer. It was hard not to be happy in this shop. Donuts are huge and delicious. Service is quick, kind, and everything else you could want from a donut shop. I ordered an iced coffee and it really was one of the best I've had (and I've had quite a few in my days). Best part about it was how cheap the bill was. We were used to spending 30 dollars to get a mediocre breakfast but only paid 6 for our donuts and drinks. Cash only doesn't bother me, but on a Sunday morning, I expected a lot of doughnuts but there were maybe 2 full racks of a random assortment of cruellers, a few sprinkled tiny doughnuts, some turnovers and bear claws. I got a glazed french crueller but was disappointed in it - it was undercooked (it seemed like the inner dough wasn't cooked?). The service was very friendly and the prices were reasonable, but I just didn't see a selection (I mean they didn't even have regular glazed!) or quality I'd like.
