Different. The place is low energy and strange. The chef is a total perfectionist freak and at times it has its pros and cons. Very charismatic and charming, he greets every table and discusses the two/three course deals. It was a more of a "dining experience" rather than for the food.. yes it was good. I finished my entire meal but to be frank I don't think I'd be coming back anytime soon. Hah. Nothing off the menu was something "bizarre and spectacularly different" from any other dish I could get at Nick and Sams.. I guess the energy and vibe of the place was just uncomfortable.. there is 7 tables and it's literally timed to each reservation is sat 30 mins after each. So it is always quiet. If you're an old lady and enjoy this scene, perfect! Not for me though. I went with the wild boar and it was good, my date had the special of some fish and it was just too much rich flavor for him. They serve you complimentary shot of champagne and bread/ oil+cheese! Oh yum. I enjoyed the flourless chocolate cake. Everything was good. My family and I enjoyed Christmas dinner at Gorji this week, and it probably was the most delicious Christmas meal I've ever had. Instead of heaping plates of drama and sides of passive aggression, we enjoyed a peaceful experience at this ten table restaurant in Addison. Located in the Village on the Parkway, Gorji boasts a limited menu and qualities that may turn some heads but ultimately add to the tranquil ambiance. You have to call ahead to reserved your table, and you speak with Chef Mansour Gorji himself. You cannot bring children, and you do not tip, as this restaurant is the first no-tipping place in town. I'm a fan of this method both politically and personally because diners enjoy stellar service, while employees enjoy a living wage. A win-win! Our friendly server was so attentive throughout the night, constantly refilling our drinks and checking in to make sure we were ok. Chef Gorji also waited on patrons. We all enjoyed the 3 course Christmas dinner, and we all selected the steak option, which was $10 more than the default pork chop or veggie menu for the day. While we perused the menu, we munched on slices of sourdough bread and fresh olive oil. I started with a green salad, then had the steak with Gorgonzola gnocchi, then the flourless chocolate cake. My mom ordered the same salad and entree, but she opted for the date and kaffir cheese butterfly dessert. The salad was so filling, full of beautiful strawberries and salty pistachios. My dad tried the Caesar salad, and it tasted fine. I'm glad I chose the other option just because it was more unique and highlighted the chef's Persian heritage. The steak was amazing--a perfect medium rare. The chocolate cake was fine, nothing exceptional, but certainly not bad. My mom's cheese dessert seemed great. I am lactose intolerant and already used my Lactaid to survive the blue cheese gnocchi. I had such a wonderful holiday, and I hope our dinner at Gorji becomes a Christmas tradition. read more

A total delight to stumble on this hidden 5-Star gem. Intimate setting with only a few tables but makes you feel special to be among a small clientele. Knowledgeable waiter and wine steward complemented by Chef Gorji himself who visited our table. Food was fabulous, each item as good as or exceeding the previous item. I was excited to try out Canary, since I read lots of great things here. We started with the mezze platter, but the food tasted at best stale. It's hard to describe, but it was musty, like ingredients were old. It was just an appetizer, and my friend didn't seem bothered so I didn't say anything. For an entree I ordered the tenderloin steak rare. The dish came out completely brown throughout. I called the waiter to ask for it sent back, and he brought back the owner or whatever "Gorji" who just argued with me about how his food should be at his restaurant. In the end I just sucked it up and choked down a few bites for the sake of my dinner companion. To top it off the bill at the end had a gratuity already added to it, for a party of two! The concept seems good, but the implementation and Gorji's ego make it a failure. I won't return and I can't recommend anyone else try it out. read more

OK, so I'm all for the reviews that say it's an inventive menu with an awesome wine selection from around the world. And it is. We opted for a nice Mexican Cabernet that we had in Mexico a couple of years ago! The 2005 La Cetto was wonderful! The Canary wedge salad was inventive and different with the addition of prosciutto and grilled jalapenos. The dish was tasty but I still would opt for the traditional wedge as my de-seeded and de-veined jalapeno was still super spicy! ...and yes I love spicy food - just not on my wedge.. We opted for the steaks and I was impressed with the Filet Mignon being prime cut as alot of steakhouses trick ya and dont serve "prime" Filet. Mine was accompanied with gorgonzola mash and my hubby's Ribeye with pomegranate gnocchi. My gripe is that our steaks were both oversalted. I really like Chef Gorgi as he comes to talk to you and truly cares if you like the food. The sides were definitely interesting and super tasty! However, I reluctantly mentioned the unfortunate oversalting of the expensive cut of meat and he tried to explain that its "KOSHER" salt as that was the reason - (I dont use ANY OTHER salt in my house when i cook so I am verrry familiar with it) - it doesnt excuse the fact that I couldn't enjoy this cut of meat at all because of this easily remedied issue (I have been to countless "prime only" steakhouses!) - My filet was 36 bucks and sorry it just wasnt the best steak I have ever had because I couldnt even taste thru all the saltiness - Hubby had the same issue with his ribeye.. Poor chef Gorgi made amends by giving us a bottle of Salmon Creek merlot but I know that retails at what two buck chuck (3 bucks a bottle) does as it is a restaurant-only wine ..so I just didnt feel good leaving and spending 72 bucks in oversalted prime meat and not to mention the rest in a bottle of $40 wine and appetizer plus a truly dry chocolate cake! Yes the chef is very nice, the place is quaint, and the food is quite tasty. However, the salt factor really took away from what could have been a great dining experience! read more

appetizers very good: in the med plate the tabbouleh was a new take on the typical parsley-dominated version you find most places. here it was tasty but had brown rice in it. dolmas tasty as well. bulgarian feta was fantastic. i tried 3 entrees at out table: the pan fried catfish was fantastic as was the chicken breast. the one i ordered though, the seafood medley in the puttanesca sauce i was a little disappointed with. i just did not really like the flavor. it wasn't too spicy or anything, the flavor was not all that good. service was very slow. the small restaurant was barely half full when we were there, seemed like we had to wait 30 min for our entrees. they were friendly there read more

Took a friend for a nice birthday dinner here. I read all the reviews and was expecting a great dining experience. The chef was very friendly on the phone when making reservations. The ambiance is great, but the food lacked flavor perhaps the simplicity of the meal isn't for me. The wine selection was subpar including the wine recommendation. The chef seems to cater to his usual costumers and ignores the rest. I was looking forward to this experience and I was greatly disappointed. If you are going on weekends you will see the proprietor does everything: he is the owner, the cashier, the host, the chef, and the also meddles with his junior waiting staff of 2, I would say he is a bit stingy to hire people. Gorji is an expert with meat and provides his patrons a very personal experience! His restaurant is great for an intimate dinner, as there are few tables and not too many visitors at once. I ordered the venison, which was delicious. However, since he makes all the food himself, be prepared for a wait: I came with a party of 8 (which is at least double the size I'd recommend coming with), and it took one and a half hours for the entrees to be brought out. read more

i'm giving this place 5 stars.. my fiancee would give it 4 stars.. so i guess it averages out to 4.5 stars.. we made reservations for dinner recently and when we got the restaurant.. we were promptly seated.. before we ordered our food.. we had a little palate cleanser (champagne and cranberry drink).. we also ordered a bottle of wine (canary red 2010).. i thought the wine was a bit on the sweet side.. but she liked it.. nevertheless.. i won't ordering that one again.. as for the food.. we started off with the escargot.. and it was absolutely phenomenal.. the pomodoro sauce, mushroom, basil and gorgonzola went exceptionally well with the snails.. for our entrees.. i got the lamb tbones which were fantastic.. my fiancee got the veal chop which she thought needed a bit more salt.. overall... the meat was cooked exceptionally well.. for dessert.. we got a chocolate cake.. it was moist... but really nothing to write home about.. overall.. i'm glad i finally came here.. we'll be back to try some of the other offerings and prix fixed menu read more

What a lovely surprise! A truly perfect ambiance - it is elegant without being stuffy, intimate without feeling cramped. The service was excellent despite the restaurant being fairly busy, and the chef made a point of introducing himself to each table and thanking them for their business. Best of all, the FOOD was absolutely fantastic. I am a vegetarian and asked them to make an entree out of their (to die for) gorgonzola gnocchi and grilled vegetable sides, which they were more than happy to do. Creamy, tangy, perfectly seasoned deliciousness. (Note to fellow veggies: always ask about veg options - they may not always end up on the menu, but they are available). BF had the bone-in pork chop, mashed potatoes, and veggies, which he happily polished off in no time flat. We left feeling like we had discovered a secret gem. Highly recommend. read more

I absolutely love this place! My boss told me about it a few years ago and my only regret was not going sooner. I have been to and frequent the more well known Dallas steakhouses - Del Frisco's, 3 Forks, etc. But this place has an intimate feel that those do not. The food is just as good, if not better. It is, IMHO, a hidden gem in the North Dallas restaurant industry! The restaurant only has about 10 tables total, which gives it a cozy feel. When you walk in you are promptly greeted by the waiter or Chef Gorji himself. The menu contains items a little different from what I would consider my comfort zone - and all have been delicious! I brought my parents here recently and they loved it as well; and they are picky about their steaks. The atmosphere is quiet and sophisticated without being pretentious. The food is wonderful and so unlike a lot of other places in north Dallas. I had the Paella that had incredible flavors going on. My friend said it was better than some she had in Spain. Another dish was trout with yogurt and some kind of garlic. It sounds weird, but was absolutely delicious. Another had the lamb t-bone and quail which she said it was the best lamb she had eaten. It is a very small restaurant and very personalized. The waiters are helpful and the chef comes out of the kitchen to check how everything is and even helped us pick a wine that night. read more

Simply amazing! The best restaurant I have eaten at in the Dallas area. The dishes are bursting with flavor it is a foodies heaven. We went on a whim on a Tuesday as we were greeted by a warm and cozy atmosphere, minimalist in nature which I prefer. There are only 8 tables total. The wine selection excellent, the menu small but intriguing. We had the filet medallions and the wild boar with scallops, we couldn't decide which was better. I will say that the female server while very nice did come across as impersonal and a bit arrogant which may have contributed to some of the less stellar reviews. However, the male server was quite professional and the chef was very personable regularly touring the dinning room and checking on the patrons making everyone feel welcome. The portions were just right and the food was perfectly prepared. I ate alone and the selection of wine by the glass was quite nice. Definitely make a reservation as I saw them turn away business even when they had open tables. No bar so beer and wine only. Worth the few inconveniences for the food. read more

This experience was absolutely amazing. I went for my birthday and I am so glad I did. My fiance and I started with the amazing bread that is served with cheese, olive oil, and lemon juice. After the bread we "cleansed" our palate with a shot of champagne and cranberry juice. The service was excellent. Not once was my water or wine not full! I always had clean utensils and a clean table. Gorji always came out after every course he cooked to make sure everything was tasteful and satisfying. My family was hosting a dinner party at a Mediterranean restaurant and told me it was Gorjis by mistake as we were suppose to eat there before we got reservations at another place. So I walk in and am immediately bombarded by someone saying I can't be there because it's prepaid. I kindly said I had a reservation and immediately he tells me no and that I need to leave. I was absolutely in shock in how rude this man was. I was clearly confused and he just immediately was rude and dismissive and told me to leave. I will never even step foot in this place again - I didn't even have the food but just from the rude service I don't even want to try it. read more

Gorgi is an artist and he cares deeply about the quality of the food served in his restaurant. He spoke with us several times during our visit, greeting us as we came in, and also as we left. The food was excellent - the best overall meal I've had in Dallas. We had eggplant and lasagna appetizers, a salad, and cod over beet puree and a filet mignon. His version of the "wedge" salad was unique and delicious! It's true, the place isn't that fancy, and the prices are definitely "fine dining". There are only 8 tables in the room. We had the escargot for the appetizer and it was superb!! Seriously...so good. I had a glass of very nice Cabernet- I can't remember the name but it was from Israel. The steak was cooked perfectly and nicely seasoned. The only downside was the gorganzola mashed potatoes which lacked flavor. The service was very friendly and attentive, and Gorgi came by after the appetizer was served to see how we liked it and then came by again to make sure we liked our steaks. My husband and I read really good reviews on this restaurant, so we went last night to celebrate our anniversary. It was amazing! I was very impressed by the waiters who were cordial and professional. All of our food came out in excellent time and tasted ridiculously delicious! Here is what we had: Appetizers: - Veal Tonnato, Grilled Tomato & Quail Egg: the pureed tuna, anchovies and capers sauce is SO good!! We dipped some of the bread from our lamb brain dish into this sauce and we loved it. - Butter Seared Lamb Brain & Green Garbanzo Provencal: I was really hesitant to try it, being my first time. I'm not an expert on "brains" but it had a really soft texture and the bread, tomato/onion mix and brain went really well together. To the point where you wouldn't realize it was brain. Only thing I can say is that it needed some more salt. Main course: - Prime Ribeye: everything I read in the reviews about this piece of steak was exactly right....perfectly cooked steak and one of the best that I have had! There was a slight crispy crust, seasoned perfectly with sea salt (?), pepper and had just enough of a slight kick to it. The inside was melt-in-your-mouth good! It was a really big piece of steak (14 oz) for me, but I couldn't resist but eat all of it! It had a few pomegranate pods and a pomegranate creme that came with it. They were great additions, but to be honest, that steak could have been on its own on a plate and been one of my best meals!! - Colorado Lamb T-Bone: my husband ordered this dish and it was tasted really good! I love lamb, but the game-y taste wasn't consistent through each of the 3 pieces. It came with a tzatziki sauce that complemented it perfectly! The tabbouleh was a bit too sour for my taste. - Garlic Mashed Potatoes: really creamy and tasted great, except it needed more salt. I never like adding salt to my dish, but this needed it to enhance the flavors. Dessert: - Chocolate cake w/ cocoa powder: I am a chocolate aficionado so believe me when I say that there was something very different, yet excellent about this piece of cake. Plus the clever cocoa dusting which outlined a fork and a knife on the plate was a nice touch! Overall, I'd go there again, hands down! Our entire meal was about $120, which was worth it considering the chef coming out to greet us and check on our meals! This was a rare experience!! read more
