I find their style of pizza very interesting. It's not quite super thin crust, it's definitely thin crust, and I would almost describe it is the opposite of Original Ray's Famous Pizza. The cheese they use is not as pillowy, the dough is crispy not soft, and they put herbs and spices on every slice. That's actually the marquee difference between Gotham Pizza and all others. I actually like that there's very little crust on their pizza so you don't end up just eating bread at the end of your slice. It's served hot, so let it cool lest you get a brunt-roof-Of-the-mouth situation where the skin comes off over the next few days- and what do you do with that skin? Spit it out? Eat it? I mean it's already in your mouth. Is it weird to eat your mouth? To eat part of your mouth? I highly recommend this joint, it's good pizza for a fair price and stylistically it's very much it's own. Having been a patron for 10 plus years , you would think I wouldn't have to leave a Yelp review. However, something was amiss this Evening. I think it was the smell and taste of Freezer Burnt Cheese. Now if it wasn't my FAVORITE spot for Manhattan pizza, I probably would not have said a word. Thant being said, it was such n awful experience. I was SO SO excited to pass by my old pizzeria and grab two slices, I was salivating at the thought of those two slices however, when I received them I was thoroughly disappointed. The smell and taste of that pizza was non other than freeze burn. Unreal, and Thoroughly disappointing. I very discreetly said something to the worker behind the counter, with a reception of absolutely no interest nor regret. The are located on 9th Ave and I believe they do have some chain pizza stores in the city. This one in my opinion is the better one. The establishment is clean and well maintained. They seem to be well staffed. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The pizza that they serve here are typical THIN and CRUNCHY (corn meal crust) and are slightly smaller than your typical NYC slice. So there pizza might not be for you. So you'll definitely might need to have two slices Just keep in mind during lunch time the place is packed especially with the high school kids and they don't rush to leave the place at all so you might not get setting at that time or you have to wait. Only started ordering from here during the pandemic when I got desperate and needed freeing from the chains of my own cooking! The pizza has been consistently fresh and delicious. They always arrive way in advance of the delivery time, which means we don't have to plan ahead. The prices are cheapish. My only complaint would be that the Grandma pizza was not as flavorful as the regular cheese pizza even with tons of basil. Haven't tried anything of than the pizza. Stopped by Gotham Pizza for a quick bite for lunch one afternoon on a hot day. When I went went inside, it was BLAZING inside the store. It felt like the heat was on, and there was very little air inside. You go to the counter and order what you want, and it's usually whatever pizzas you see in the front that are already made. We got one slice of pepperoni and one slice of buffalo chicken. We sat and waited for our order, and the chairs and tables seemed pretty messy and dirty. In a few minutes, our pizzas were ready. For the pepperoni pizza, it was very oily in my opinion and there was so much grease and fat coming from it. I like that the crust was pretty thin, but it was not crunchy at all because it was soaked in the oil and cheese. The buffalo chicken tasted better, but again, the thin crust was soggy. read more

After sampling both the regular slices and the grandma slices at Gotham, I am happy to report that Chelsea has another solid pizza option. In fact, given its proximity to my flat it has narrowly edged out Rocco's as my local go-to when I'm hankering for a slice. The grandma pizza is brightened by the flavor of fresh garlic and the regular slices have a crisp crust that makes me smile and reminds me of just how good pizza lovers have it here in New York. This location of Gotham Pizza (they've got another on the UES) has been open only about a month now and it's a welcome addition to this stretch of Ninth Avenue. I had debated internally about whether or not to give this a full 5 star blessing, but the fact remains of all the Gotham Pizza locations, this Chelsea one is my favorite of them all. Whether its a pie or slice, these reasonably priced pizzas have been uber fresh and super tasty virtually every time I've had them. Is it dumb luck? Maybe. I'm all for keeping the dumb luck streak alive. Like all of the other Gotham locations, the interior screams more take out / delivery than sit down. There is just enough room for a small group of folks to enjoy a pie or plenty of chairs for the solo lunch time / random dinner hour pizza lovers. I've experienced the most success getting them for a lunch, delivery included. Their margherita slice is very much on point, as is their Sicilian / grandma slice. I can go with a well seasoned plain cheese any time, or a classic pepperoni slice. Perhaps my favorite two things about their pizza is the thin crust and the breadcrumb bottom, which makes Gotham the closest thing to Oregon Style Pizza (http://www.yelp.com/list/oregon-style-pizza-ore-keizer ) that I've found in NYC, period. Finally, the guys behind the counter are a friendly bunch. I've seen them throw a free slice or two to guys who could use it (i.e. the needy on the street) and it always makes their day. This neighborhood Pizza spot will never replace my favorite "Hot Spot" Pizza that is now closed but it comes in close as an option if I am not able to head over to Artichoke Pizza ( love them , but they are a little pricey). Gotham is my favorite pizza place to go when I'm craving a slice. Their pizzas are very unique though it may be a little oily. They make a thin crust, which I'm a fan of, and on the crust they add what I think is cornmeal to give it a nice crispy texture. They also give a very generous amount of toppings. I've tried other pizzas and they all taste very similar, nothing out of the ordinary. So even if I pass by so many pizza places, I will still only go back to Gotham! There are good and bad points but overall I really enjoy coming here. The staff here changes very frequently even though all of them are very friendly. Since their grand opening, I've never seen a staff more than 3 times. Because of this change, the quality is never exactly same even though the recipe is the same. The price did go up and the portion is smaller than I remembered. Despite these small nuisances I will still continue to come back here! read more

Pretty good pizza joint if you're craving a quick slice of cheap pizza. They have thin crust pizza which I am a fan of when crispy. They had a deal to get 2 slices of cheese pizza and a soda for I think about $5. The cheese pizza was pretty standard and nothing too special, but still pretty good for the price! Debated between 3-4 stars but settled on 4 because the guy gave us huge slices and did this slicing magic before he separated them-- It was good pizza! Honestly, I didn't think it was that good at first but the slice grew on me. The cornmeal crust definitely threw me off a little but it was crispy and not too tough. I was showing my friends around SoHo when we heard about the PornHub pop-up store. Needless to say, we were incredibly excited. So the disappointment was palpable when we got there and it was closed. We needed to fuel up before heading to the High Line at sunset, and nothing drowns disappointment and sexual frustration quite like a slice of New York pizza. We decided on Gotham because it was convenient, I was a little nervous as I walked inside a tiny generic-looking spot. I had no idea it would be so good. We decided to share a simple margherita pizza and it was absolutely bomb. The 'cheese-to-sauce' ratio was perfect and we quickly forgot about our abysmal 'Pornhub-popup-store-to-SoHo' ratio. Their grandma pizza is pretty darn delicious. It was straight out of the oven, and the sauce was so flavorful. Grandma pizza is always so satisfying -- comfort Italian!! They were actually out of cheese slices during lunch rush -- said it would be 10 minutes for a slice. Looked like pretty typical thin crust from what others were eating. Stick with the grandma!! Came back to try the cheese slice, and it was a surprising treat. Super thin and tasty sweet tomato sauce, but they do something to the bottom of the crust that almost makes it seem like it's dusted with panko bread crumbs or some tiny bits of crunchy deliciousness. A quick pit stop to Gotham Pizza before heading out of the area. I ended up with a grandma slice and the white slice. The process was quick and fast. A nice toast up in the oven and I was out the door. The grandma slice was delicious. My favorite of the two. I ate the basil (even though I hate basil) but it was cooked and crispy. This place does not pass the plain slice test. Pizza crust is coated with corn meal and is waaaaay too brittle. If you had a proper gluten formation and you cooked pizza correctly your crust would not need corn meal to keep it crispy. $5 Special with a Fountain soda isn't that bad. Definitely a hit and a miss. Moved a few blocks down and was looking for a pizza joint that would replace our beloved Brooklyn spot. Decided to go on a slice run (sampling a few slices from several places to weed out the horrible ones) and after our first stop at Gotham Pizza, we didn't even make it to a second place. A little pricier than most spots, but the crust is impressively thin and crispy and makes the most satisfying crunch as you bite into it. Ordered the margherita and the grandma slice. Margherita is perfectly seasoned with a great balance of sauce and cheese. Grandma slice a little on the doughier side like a focaccia. Not that much sauce or garlic on this one - something I really liked at my old joint. Overall a very solid choice for pizza - place is exceptionally clean and the guy behind the counter is super polite. OK, I admit it. New York does pizza better than Boston. I passed up the lunch bargain of two slices of plain cheese with a fountain soda for five bones when I caught sight of the beautiful margherita pizza. I had to try it, so I got one slice of that and another of cheese. Now, the cheese slice was good: Thin, crispy yet chewy crust topped with a tangy sweet sauce and just the right amount of cheese. But hot damn, that margherita pizza was out of this world. I think they must fly the tomatoes in from the garden of Eden. It was so simple yet absolutely delicious. The margherita slice was, however, messy to eat, and I was not helped by the tiny napkins available inside Gotham Pizza. Best pizza in Chelsea area!!! I have tried many of the pizza spots, but this place is by far the best. Ordered in on a rainy Saturday night and decided to order different slices.
