The food here is honestly great but depending on what dishes you're craving it's a hit or miss with the flavor. The safe options are always good such as the burgers, fries, grilled cheeses even a kids size if you don't want too much. The options include vegan cheese too which is always exciting but also wish there were more options for entrees to make it exciting. The bowls are pretty good like the chille Verde and the salmon here. I do believe they have great desserts like vegan cupcakes and stuff too but the service is okay depends who is there. Brea location is up and down but the orange location is pretty consistent. read more

Nice healthy find in Brea! 2 locations in the OC. Stopped in for lunch on the suggestion of a friend and the restaurant was packed on a Monday around the noon/lunch hour. The menu consists of wraps, bowls, salads, burgers, acai bowls, coffee and pastries, including menu options for vegetarian, and plant based eaters. I also noticed a breakfast menu. All the plates coming out of the kitchen looked great. I went with my friends recommendation since she has been here before. We both ordered the: 4 stars Seasonal Butternut squash tacos and sweet potato fries. The tacos were loaded with fresh veggies and there were three large tacos and they were filling. The fries, although not freshly cut, rather frozen, tasted great and were not greasy at all. 4.5 stars for a home made peanut butter chocolate cup that was outstanding! I loved the casual vibe and especially loved the condiment and help yourself hot sauce wall in the back of the restaurant. Lots of choices made me very happy! read more

We came here once a week and order for our office many times. About a year ago the quality taper off and we stop coming in for lunch. Tried it again today and even more disappointed. Grass fed burger was a burnt patty burger, the ranch wrap was not up the quality you would expect. Didn't want to exchange both items since if they gave me this type of burger their is lack of pride in the kitchen. Before this place put out some high quality food and you could see through that quality the employees cared. Management needs to have better training for the kitchen staff or at least a lead to oversee the kitchen. When you have multiple locations hiring great managers is key. read more

I got a Chile Verde bowl with crispy tofu. It came with avocado, black beans, onions, corn, been pepper and a cilantro lime dressing. It's located in a shopping center near Vons that offers plenty of parking. Came here for breakfast on a Saturday to get some work done. They do provide free wifi and the speed of the wifi was pretty good too. It was pretty quiet for a weekend which was nice for me to focus on my work. I ordered dinner from the Green Tomato Grill directly through the site.. went to pick the food up and came home to eat it since the restaurant was closing at 9 and we'd ordered in the 8 o'clock hour. Orders are sealed in the brown bag so I felt no need to check it before leaving the restaurant since I've never had an issue with them before. Once home I sat down to eat and began emptying the bag, realized MY food was missing. I called the restaurant and a worker answered the phone and I told them what had happened. They couldn't give me an explanation as to why my order wasn't in the bag. Didn't state whether it was made and forgotten to be put in or was never made altogether. Neither made sense to me so I was even more frustrated. They said they'd leave a note for the manager to call me because I wanted a refund for my order. They said they couldn't refund me because it was placed through Doordash even though I placed it directly through the gtg site. It made no sense again. Either way, I agreed to wait for the call and hung up and got food elsewhere. I've called the restaurant a handful of times at various times of the day and have never gotten a hold of a manager. Keep being told I'll get a call and I got one while I was at work, stepped out to call back to talk and of course the manager had just left. I just find it ridiculous that no responsibility has been taken and that I lost and wasted money. Granted I do not regularly eat there but this alone makes me never want to eat there again and to also let others know of this experience so they don't eat there again either. Clearly they don't care about returning customers or ensuring customers are satisfied with their experience. It's been a few years since I worked in the food service industry but it's obvious the quality of service has gone down. My husband had a vegan burger, he liked it. The food is ordered at the counter and delivered to the table by the restaurant. Utensils and sauces, etc, are available at the condiment/drink area. The restaurant was clean and a bit trendy with splashes of color here and there. They have comfortable tables and chairs. There is seating for both small and large parties. There is a children's table. They also have seating outside. Pets are welcome. The menu is good size, with many items to choose from. They have vegetarian and/or vegan food. Salads, sandwiches, rice bowls, fish, and more. They also have meat available. All items can be customized. I met a friend here at the Green Tomato Grill just yesterday, where I tried this Cafe for the first time. I had the Miso salmon salad, which was incredible. I can't say enough about how delicious the salmon was. A little bit crispy on one side and bouncy, plump, and moist on the inside. As for the salad, it was fresh and delicious. I loved the variety of spinach, soybeans, carrots, and all the other goodies that were in there. Fast forward to today. I brought my husband here today so that he could experience it for the first time. He's having the green chile pork stew and he is loving it. I swear I would not order the same thing so that I could eat my way through their menu, but I ended up getting the Miso salmon salad again. They have changed their Greek Salad Dressing, it now contains feta cheese which I did not realize until I got home and put it on my salad rendering it not edible for me. They were very conscious of vegans and never had dairy in their dressings before. They also changed the recipe and it tastes terrible. I am so sad and disappointed. I don't feel I can trust them any more. It has gone from my favorite got to for lunch and dinner to maybe not going again. Slave girl got a Groupon deal and it was going to expire. I was hesitant to go because with a name like Green Tomato Grill, it didn't sound like something I would be interested in eating there. Well, I didn't think I had a choice, lol. The restaurant was counter service, but the staff there constantly walking around the tables to collect plates and making sure the restaurant looked nice and neat. Other than the counter ordering and self serving drinks, it was the same as any sit down places out there. The Groupon deal came with any two entries and any two drinks. I didn't know alcoholic drinks were included until after, but the drinks we got didn't disappoint. For entries we got spicy surf and turf bowl and ck's world famous fish tacos. For drinks we ordered cucumber ginger mint lemonade and jalapeños mandarin lemonade. They were so refreshing and crisp. Perfect treats for a hot summer day. I personally liked the cucumber ginger mint the most. If you don't know what you like, no worries, they offer samples before you make the final decision. The fish tacos had blackened wild ono, avocado, cabbage, carrots, cilantro and onions. It was served over grilled corn tortillas and chipotle ranch. Everything worked well together and I really love the fish being grilled instead of deep fried. The spicy surf and turf bowl came with blackened calamari and grilled chicken sautéed with cilantro, corn, onions, snow peas and shishito peppers. It was topped with cheddar jack cheese served over white rice and habanero fire sauce. It had a good kick but yet very delicious. Only issue was the texture of the calamari and chicken being too similar for me to tell the difference of what I was munching on, but overall a solid dish. Slave girl also got a cheesecake at the end. It was too sweet for me but she really enjoyed it, especially with the free coffee from yelp check in. I was truly surprised with the experience. The food was tasty, the drinks were refreshing, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I would come back even if we don't have Groupon in the future. I ate here for the first time recently and all I can say is I WISH they had a location in south Orange County. I have a gluten allergy and there are SO MANY options!!!! I had the Thai peanut chicken bowl and the crispy chickpeas and both were delicious!!!! One note though - I got a cupcake to go and it wasn't just ok, it was gross. Like, inedible. I'm assuming it was just old? I've had plenty of delicious GF baked goods, but this was hard as a rock and crumbled like sawdust when I tried to put a fork through it. However....I'm still giving the restaurant 5 stars because the made to order food is great and there's a huge variety. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes! read more

It has a base of brown rice and is topped with broccoli, cabbage, carrots, nori, your protein choice, avocado and sesame seeds. It's nice that they allow you to pick your protein choice. Chicken is not an extra cost, salmon is! The second time I got the bowl, it was more on the salty side, even though there wasn't much sauce.... Overall, it's an average spot to me. The ginger flair is a nice touch to the teriyaki sauce, and they're actually quite generous when it comes to protein portions, which was a pleasant surprise. My husband had the grass-fed burger and enjoyed the patty, but everything else wasn't that memorable for him. Wishing the burger had a combo option because I had to get sweet potato fries in addition to the burger (10.95 burger + 3.95 sweet potato prices), and I think it's pretty pricey for what you get. It's my current obsession and I wish I lived closer so I could eat here more often...I've dined here multiple times since my first review and always enjoy myself and leave feeling full & not so guilty in indulging. Some other dishes I've tried on my other visits: *Banana Nut Gluten-Free Muffin - this was really good, I think they've replaced it for the season with a Raspberry Lemon Muffin at the moment... *Blueberry Gluten-Free Muffin - this was not bad, it didn't taste too sweet to me and the crumbles they put on top are so addicting. *Spicy Surf & Turf Bowl - I prefer getting the Habanero Fire Sauce on the side...it's not too spicy and reminds me of a Chile Verde, but I just prefer dipping the Chicken and Calamari in it. I LOVE this dish! *Red Beef & Tomato Braise - this is really good as well. Unfortunately, it was too plain and had no miso flavor. I see why it's so healthy now :( Also, the salmon was overcooked, leading it to be dry. As for the Chile Verde Steak Bowl, you should just take your money and head to Chipotle for a better tasting steak bowl. For the prices here, it left me longing for a better meal.
