Pretty disappointing experience -- a few weeks ago I came here and saw people dining indoor so I came this morning, ordered a cup of coffee and sat down, only to be told right away that no indoor dining was allowed due to the newly imposed NJ-wide order four days ago. While this is not their fault, they could've at least put up a sign in the seating area that they did not block (the table at the front) so that I didn't have to waste my money to buy the coffee, but the barista told us that they'd refuse to do so. This is the place when I have some free time to relax and enjoy coffee. Busy but peaceful ambience, courteous staff, freshly roasted coffee and delicious carrot bread loafs, muffins and many more. When coffee market is surrounded with SB and DD, Gregory's have placed them very uniquely. Little expensive but feels like value for money for those who has sweet tooth. No doubt if they lower the price (without compromising the quality) it would be a good competition for other coffee giants. The family spent a week on vacation using Jersey City as our home base while exploring NYC. We visited this location each day before boarding the PATH train. By the 3rd day, the young lady working the register, Tabesha, knew my name and drink order! She and Autumn were so friendly, asking about our adventures and plans for the day. My daily mocha was good, not too strong on one flavor over another. The Kid said it was the best hot chocolate they'd ever had! They have an app which gives you $5 off your first order and $5 rewards after spending a certain amount. We hit that mark during the week! Honestly, this could have been an ordinary daily coffee experience but the cheerful staff and their personal touch made it part of the day that we looked forward to each morning. I will forever love Gregory's coffee. Why get Starbucks when you can get Gregory's just as conveniently? The menu offers pretty standard coffeeshop items, but the coffee tastes better than the respective items at Starbucks in terms of flavor depth. I'm a big fan of the iced latte, cappuccino, americano...actually I just like everything. I've tried a fair assortment of their pastries, and they're all decent but none of them have knocked me off my feet yet. I am a big fan of their pre-made oatmeal options for breakfast or for a mid-day snack though. The service is consistent, and the baristas at this location are particularly friendly. I've never seen the line that long, and it moves very quickly. As I walked in I was greeted with the biggest smile and a hello from a young woman, I later found out her name is Kat. After that, the rest of the team just followed suit! Friendly, fast, courteous, and just happy that you came in to spend your money. This is absolutely the way a business should run. The activated charcoal milk and the turmeric latte both surprised me with how amazing they are, and a big plus is that they are vegan! I love how many vegan options they have here! Literally only made this account because of how wonderful my visit was. I've been there twice and both times were a great experience. More specifically my second visit. The woman greeted us with one of the biggest smiles I have ever seen. She asked us (my boyfriend and me) if we needed any help and she asked if we need clarification. My boyfriend and I aren't exactly what you'd call "coffee people", and so we asked her some questions to see which would best suit us. She let us try the cold brew coffe to see whether or not we'd like it. We ended up getting a sugar free vanilla iced latte with almond milk. I called it pretty and the woman making it got so happy and was super hyped. It was a genuine appreciation and I love environments like that. It tasted good, but once my boyfriend finished doing his thing, it was perfect (hella Splenda packets and a dash of cinnamon). As we were paying for it, I overheard the first woman tell a customer that the pastries were half off. BIG mistake. I flipped. I was like "BABE WE GOTTA GET THE BROWNIES HOW MUCH DO THEY COST THEY LOOK GOOD GIRL LET ME KNOW." The woman started laughing and asked if I ever had one of the brownies. I admitted that I did not. She reached in and I thought she was gonna' break off a piece to give to me, but nope! She truthfully gave me a brownie and said, "Well, today, this is a sample." GUYS. SHE GAVE ME A BROWNIE. FOR FREE. I CRIED LIKE I WAS THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD. I work at Chick Fil A (in Newport) and I told her (after the fact) that my coworkers often give Gregory's workers free items and say great things about them and now I definitely understand why. I give the woman a tip and asked where I could leave a review, so here I am. Gregory's is actually underrated. It has a calm atmosphere and super enthusiastic workers. I can actually type an essay on this. My boyfriend and I will DEFINITELY be going back. If you're a Starbucks fan, Gregory's will change your mind in a heartbeat. ( LOONG REVIEW ALERT ) cute coffee shop in the beautiful town of Newport in Jersey City. nice ambiance & great staff, always serving coffee with a smile. There are two Baristas who deserve recognition. ( I usually don't take the time to write up long reviews... however, on this particular day, I find it necessary to share ) I, unfortunately, don't know the names of the TWO baristas, so please forgive the poor description. I don't want to assume or possibly offend.. - but one is: a tall white male with long brown hair, who always rocks it in a ponytail. soft-spoken. the other is -a short female, with brown hair she may appear Hispanic but don't think she's Hispanic.. these two are absolutely AMAZING! I came to this coffee shop on a Sunday morning & noticed a longer line than usual. Something must have been off bc usually, the line moves quickly. roughly 10 - 12 customers in line and only TWO baristas holding it down. poor guys - I could tell the male barista at the register was overwhelmed but he kept serving up everyone's order with a smile. polite and professional the entire time. even if he made tiny errors prepping coffees he caught himself &would fix it right away. the young female barista handling the hot drinks on the other end by the machines held it down as well. I mean - granted, we could clearly tell that it was only two of them at the bar. They only have two arms. so comm'on' now... why give 'em a hard time, right? but you know... depending on which location you go - some customers or Baristas can be A**holes under pressure.... this was certainly not the case at all. Those two baristas really held it down. WITH smiles on their faces. The male barista at one point had his back turned to prep the next drink and when he turned back around to the register and noticed the line grew even LONGER. he literally just took a moment.., took a deep breath, and said to himself, nut loud enough for customers to hear ( I'm paraphrasing here ): " wow, there's so many people. This line is so long, please bear with me everyone." and proceeded to state to the next customer: " how may I help you ? " in such a calm & polite manner. Sure we could tell they may have been screaming on the inside because it was clearly an overwhelming long line for only ONE barista multitasking at the register and ONE barista by the steamer machines doing the same.... but they pulled it off and the frustration wasn't projected. THAT'S what's important. The way those two maintained their composure ESPECIALLY when you have a long line of over 10 customers' watching impressive. I don't think I've ever seen such a level of poise under pressure ( at a coffee shop ). ok, fine... it's just a coffee shop but the level of professionalism those two carried under pressure is a skill set that shouldn't go unrecognized. it definitely sets the tone for not only the establishment but shows their character. at the end of the day, we're all just people trying to do the best we can at our jobs. right... hope the management at this Gregory's location repairs whatever machine was down and caused the backup in the first place. but that's just my two cents! These guys need a well-deserved BONU$, vacation, or some sort of praise. considering the circumstances, the service at this coffee shop was pleasant and well organized. they kept the lines moving and neither of them ever came out of character. These guys held it down! This is not to take away from the other nice staff throughout the week. but on this particular Sunday - those two Baristas rocked! Pff! the Starbucks across the street could Neva! That location will have like 5 Baristas working and maybe 3 of them will have attitudes projected on to customers. but the staff at Gregory's on the other hand - held it down. with a broken machine and all! backed up line, severely understaffed - and only TWO baristas holding it down with positive vibes! The service here is great. You can tell the baristas are well trained and familiarized with the menu. The espresso and all drinks made with it are impeccable. The cold brew is bitter and cannot be fixed with milk or syrup. I still order it sometimes (when I do it is the Hall & Oats - cinnamon, oat milk, cold brew, vanilla) but a few dollars more for an iced latte goes a long way. Gregory's offer a vegan egg sandwich that is seriously delicious but they often sell out of it at this location. There's a bunch of gluten-free &/or vegan pastries that are worth checking out. The seating sucks and there's rarely any of it to begin with (read: busy!) so I rarely stay here long. I like this place. read more

The staff at this Gregory's is simply top notch. Super friendly, professional, and competent baristas who know the regulars by name and what they drink. They take quality seriously, and on the rare occasion when something wasn't right they fixed it with a smile and gave me a coupon for a free beverage. I looked forward to coming here every day since I started working in Jersey City. Now that I'm changing jobs I will miss seeing these awesome folks - every single one of them. Sort of new to Gregory's coffee, but I'm hooked now. I've been coming every morning to grab a nu brew and a couple of chai donuts and it's amazing. Never thought Nutella coffee would be my new thing. Kathy's been super friendly and perky whenever I come in and shes becoming part of my cheerful morning. I definitely recommend this unique coffee shop to anyone in the area.
