I came here for the meat jun and it did not disappoint. This is the best I've had on the "mainland". The menu has everything that one could get in Hawaii. After three visits within a span of a 45 days, I have finally decided to write a review. And the results were virtually the same. Except for the different tastes for each and every one of the plat lunches ordered. First of all, all three visits were done through phone order. And just so that you're not quite too disappointed, give them about 30 minutes from the time you place the order. I live about 20-25 minutes from Grinds 2 Da Max, so once I get off the phone with them, grab my keys, and walk out to my garage and into my car, and drive off, 10 minutes have gone by already. Once I arrive, they take about 5 minutes to ring you up and package your food altogether. No biggie for me. Now, I as far as the food, everything that I have ordered in the past are so ono! Ill start with the Meat Jun. Made just the way I expect it to be, along with the sauce. Not that spicy in my opinion. Especially with the rice. The Kalua Pork, really good in the sense it is pretty fresh. Nicely cooked warm, perfect temperature. The Garlic Chicken, almost like mochiko chicken, but still worth trying at some point. The Dynamite Chicken Katsu with Garlic Shrimp. Now, these two half/half combined works surprisingly compliments each other. Way to go! I don't know what the sauces are that they cover the chicken katsu with, but I find myself wanting more of it. Rare Ahi Katsu, the pieces are smaller than I expected, but still worth a try to get once. Maybe order a hamburger or something else in case you become more hungry. Poke Sampler, wow. A good variety of about 3 different types of poke. A mix of spicy and mild, to knock your socks off! Comes witha scoop of some ube/sweet potato. And of course, the Green River drink. I used to drink this all the time back in Hawaii whenever Id visit any of the drive ins. Quite frankly, the main reason I order from Grunds 2 Da Max. As it reminds me of a lime shaved ice, in the form of a liquid. This place has the quality that allows me to order from at least every other week, if not every week. I'm going to start off by saying the food here is good. Really good. I love the furikake Korean chicken and the lemon garlic shrimp. When it's fresh, it's *chefs kiss* It's cooked to perfection and it's, by far, the best in terms of other Hawaiian joints nearby. The only gripe is that they don't have Mac salad, but the food is just that good so it's not too much of a miss. Unfortunately, what this place really lacks in is service. First, it takes a really, really long time to get your food. We called for pick up and they quoted us 20-25 minutes. Not bad if the food is coming out fresh and hot. But we got there early, paid, and waited. In fact, we waited 20 more minutes more than they quoted us. And when we finally asked for an update, they gave us the food that had been sitting there. Totally get people have off days, but some sincere apology about forgetting to hand us our food would've been appreciated. Second, you have to be really, really sure they got your order right. And even then, you might not get what you ask for. I once ordered 2 combos for pick up and I'm asking her to repeat my order back to me slowly because I feel like she's saying salmon instead of chicken. I keep saying the order slowly. I am emphasizing I am not ordering the salmon. She confirms. And she repeats the order back quickly and I feel like I keep hearing salmon. I give up because she seems frustrated that I keep asking for confirmation. But I call back 5 minutes later because I don't want salmon and for the love of god, just want my chicken. Lo and behold, they were like oh you want to change your order from the salmon? They did change it (begrudgingly). It is honestly one of the most bizarre customer experiences I've had. Am I being a Karen? Was I unconsciously saying salmon? Anyway, the good news is that I did in fact receive my chicken. The bad news is that they messed up a different part of my order. Not sure if I'll keep coming back unless I have an intense craving for the chicken. Because what they lack in attentiveness, you as the customer, must make up for in patience. read more

About 2 weeks ago I ordered another platter and I must say this time the quality of the fish was bad...didn't enjoy it. We had to fry it up. Please let me know when the bomb poke is back. I am so happy that they moved closer to my working place. We have enjoyed their first location on Charleston but there new location on Russell Rd and Rainbow Blvd is so much more accessible. Today I had "Da Sampler" this was heaven! There was four different kinds of poke all my favorites all in a row. So shoyu (soy sauce) poke, limu (seaweed) poke, spicy ahi poke with tobiko (fish eggs) and my favorite ginger poke all on a bed of perfectly cooked rice with a scoop of sweet okinawin (purple) potato salad, da most awesome spaghetti noodle salad and da bomb kim chee. So onolishous!!! If you love poke this is for you! They even had bricks of kulolo (it's like sticky taro mochi) I haven't had kulolo in such a long time. I believe it was 1 pound pretty good size. From the garlic shrimp and garlic chicken and the saimin soup and cheeseburgers, everything is amazing! I'm personally allergic to seafood, but my husband can vouch for me that the garlic shrimp is amazing and tastes just like the ones from the shrimp trucks in Hawaii. The garlic chicken is my go-to; super crunchy pieces of chicken with a punch of garlic and slightly sweet sauce, it's absolutely amazing and you have to try it yourself! My other go-to is the cheeseburger paired with the saimin soup. The cheeseburger is simple but so very tasty; the patty is well-seasoned and salty, topped with a slice of American cheese to counter the flavors of the patty, resting on a toasted bun. Perfection. And pair it with a bowl of saimin soup; a simple clear broth with chewy noodles. What more can you ask for? There are better places in town to order it. The dynamite chicken: 5/5. Perfect amount of kick without being oversauced. If the garlic chicken had the moisture and flavor of this dynamite chicken...wow. meat Jun: 5/5 flavorful and cooked great. Shrimp dishes: 2/5. So, you gotta peel the shrimp yourself which is fine IF and only IF keeping the shell on brings that flavor. But both times the shrimp dishes have been flat. Squid luau: 5/5. Ono! The other thing I love about this place? Orange Bang! That's the souther California kid in me. Anytime a place has that, I order one. This is definitely in my rotation, but if you are a hawaiian garlic chicken lover like me, there is at least one spot in town that's better. Ordered takeout during lunch on a weekday. I got a combo plate eith spicy Korean fried chicken and lemon butter garlic shrimp with the potato crab salad. My favorite part of the dish was the chicken. It had the skin left on so it was super crispy. It would have been perfect if there was actually any heat to it. The shrimp were large and pretty tasty but mostly similar to many other places I've tried. Unfortunately I wasn't a fan of the potato crab salad. It was very bland and I didn't taste any crab in mine. I would prefer the typical Hawaiian mac salad. Overall good food and variety. read more

Meat jun, fried noodles, garlic shrimp, ahi katsu and Hawaiian plate are just some of our favorites. We wanted to share the ono food they make with everyone we care about on our wedding day. We had the garlic chicken, shoyu pork, fried mahi mahi, pastele stew, poke, fried noodles and potato salad. Our family from home enjoyed and was so happy they got ono food they love to eat. Our friends from Vegas loved it all and was asking where they could go to enjoy Hawaii local food that the Hawaiians eat up here. All in all it was a winning night.
