This review is about their Mexican hot chocolate. It's pretty good and I would definitely get it again. Really smooth and delicious. I do not, however, recommend their tree hugger oatmeal with almond milk. After it finished cooking, it smelled like rotting boiled eggs. Walked in for an iced tea after trying their yummy samples outside. They where giving samples for the cold brewed coffee, chai tea, and hot coffee. They really don't have too many seating options for inside but their AC is on full blast. They do have a lot of chairs and tables outside but it was too hot for me to try it out. We're visiting Hollywood for a few weeks and tried to find a good local coffee shop. Initially we thought we had found it, but after the first time the cracks started to show. A lot of the staff there seem to be sad and depressed. The baristas don't seem to take instructions well either; I mean they listen, but then make whatever drink you ordered their way. Maybe they have a hard time hiring people in that location or something, and are just stuck with whoever they can get. I don't know, but it's just not a positive vibe in there, if you know what I mean. But the place is fine if you just stopping through, it's not your every day kind of shop. They are cool to the occasional homeless person who comes in, letting them have a table and to drink their coffee. That I'll give them some point for. read more

Love this place. Coffee is good, wifi is fast, outlets are plentiful. Plus, it's usually easy to find a table, at least in the afternoon/evening when I tend to make my visits. My only complaint is that they are a little light on food options, though that could be a product of me only going in the afternoon when all their good stuff is gone. We order from here regularly at our Near by office/school. I'm a little disappointed. Quality went down especially with service. Semantics are simple "one cup at a time" Plus...do the math...products are overpriced when it compares to Stella Barra,$bucks and Coffee Bean. So its not like we don't have choices. Their yelp $ should go up to $$. Realization, we are probably going to go somewhere else for coffee. ;( Also i have the FiveStars app and would never get the discount once I saw the receipt ( half of pastries, etc)...probably my fault. oh well. I have to say this however, A+ for their products Black Gold Coffee and Egg McLovin. That Black Gold Coffee is probably the best in Los Angeles...it should be on the menu daily. read more

My go-to spot in the neighborhood. The drinks are reasonably priced and quality. The food is overpriced in my opinion, but it's good. Most of the staff is very friendly and accommodating. They seem to always be working hard. It's a great spot to "meet for coffee" with a good amount of seating. The tall metal chairs gotta go though, ouch :P There is free wifi, but it's often spotty so I recommend using your own hotspot. read more

This review is for my friend Scott, he had inquired as to why I have not written one yet. This is a hard place to write a review for, I've had so many different experiences @ Groundworks over the last 5 years that I have lived in Hollywood. At certain points of the day, this coffee shop can be an amazing place to get a really strong cup of Java. They have a variety of coffee to choose from, I highly recomend the Organic Peruvian Blend. At other times, this coffee shop can become a haven for the Homeless, often their outside dining area will be occupied by a small community of bums, some sleeping, some smoking crack, and some just harassing people as they walk by for spare change. They have a sign posted that says "No Loitering", but I know for a fact that they do not enforce this policy. The service is generally very prompt, but they seem to hire a lot of new people. This generally leads to a longer line, simply because the new barista does not know how to operate the cash register. However, I still go here every Sunday morning for Coffee. It's right around the corner from the Hollywood Farmer's Market, and thus a great place to stop and get coffee. I do NOT linger there, simply because of a few factors. 1. The over bearing scourge of Homeless People 2. The busy intersection of Sunset/Cahuenga 3. The Sun beams directly down on their outdoor dining area, making it impossible to look up from the table. Many things can be said about this place, good and bad; but I suppose the same goes for any establisment. I say, go ahead and get yourself a cup of coffee........just don't get too comfortable! read more

My favorite coffee shop in Hollywood. Love the baristas and the coffee is divine. I'm a regular here and would give the establishment 5 stars if not for the harassment from homeless as I walk into the store. Today outside the door a man yelled "f you" and made a very rude remark about female anatomy. The problem also arises when unruly individuals enter the store. Really great place to study. The drinks are good. Some are a little much for the size, but it's delicious and worth it if you're staying there for a while. The wifi is really good, doesn't cut out. GroundWork is definitely my go-to whenever I'm in the area. There are several great things about this place. Firstly, that it's not Starbucks. The drinks are generally great. I recommend the Chai Latte. It's about $4-ish for a medium size. Side note: small size here should just be considered micro. They're the same size as the Dixie cups that kindergarteners drink orange juice from. My main reason for always coming here is the general vibe of the place. Baristas are friendly and thankfully, non-douchey. For a small joint, it has good seating if you're looking to get any work done. Usually having your drink served takes a minute or two, it's quick. One complaint: the kitchen randomly closes sometimes. I wanted a bagel in the afternoon after overcoming a morning of hunger and wasn't able to get one. You can understand the agony. Another time I walked in but this time it was near closing hour so the kitchen being shut down was reasonable. read more

Cool coffee spot. Had a ice blended espresso drink. It is like a slushy but with coffee. The thing that I liked the most was that the espresso beans were ground up and mixed in the drink. It added a little bit of crunch and just the right amount of flavor. read more

This place made me realise Starbucks is the 'McDonalds' of the coffee industry. For comparable prices, Groundworks has infinitely much better coffee made by barista who know what they are doing. Used to love this place, would come in every morning to get a coffee and a vegetarian chili. I would definitely say im a regular. The place was always great vibes until lately ive noticed this one guy who works there to just be in his own world. He always seems to have a slight attitude or maybe just not like me. Today i went in with some friends, they grabbed some coffee i decided to hold off on my usual chili. After hanging out for 10 mins or so waiting for my peoples order i ask to use the restroom and he tells me someone is in it. I wait patiently UNTIL I WATCH HIM GIVE SOMEONE ELSE THE KEY! Then i ask again nicely and he replies, sorry restrooms are for paying customers only. After that experience you can expect not to see me at ground work again. They do a beautiful Mexican hot chocolate with plenty of spices. Great with the house-made cashew milk. (Pro tip: it is the only house-made nut milk they have, so recommend to ask for that instead of packaged almond milk!) This location, which I think is their original location, does have a loud/buzzing open refrigerator case all along the counter, which takes away from the ambience and makes it not a nice place to hang out. I think the case was installed in the last year or so, and the seating was also changed at that time. Before then, this shop was a more comfortable place to be.
