Nice vibe, organic coffee pretty good, I wouldn't say the best tasting I've had, and no organic milk offered. One barista said "we haven't found an organic milk that foams up well." I prefer the taste of Blue Bottle and H Coffee House cappuccinos and they both also use low acid, organic coffee and organic milk, Cloverfield or Rockview. They foam up beautifully and taste perfectly, even the 2%. Service took a long time to get a cappuccino. read more

I was very disappointed in the overall service this coffee shop had. Paying $6.00 for a latte is one thing but the cup was only 3/4 of the way full and the obscenely large ice cubes took up the other half of the cup. I've changed my tastes and no longer love Groundworks. Press pot coffee is decent and cheap, but it's very limiting. I really appreciate the selection they offer, eight separates pots with different origins, but a couple are usually drained and it takes forever to get refilled. The ambience is decent with the occasional Hollywood loony to spice it up. But overall the quality is OK and not improving. I'm tempted to give it three stars, but I've gotten a lot of writing done at this place. read more

I am so upset!!!! I've been going to the Arclight down the street from here for about eight or nine years. My absolute favorite theatre & I can't believe yesterday is the first time I ever tried the coffee here at Groundwork... I've been missing out on having great coffee for years. I feel like such a fool... I only had about 20 minutes before my movie started at the Arclight & instead of going to Starbucks a couple of bloack away & we decided to just go across the street to Groundwork & I had the best Mexican Mocha ever!!! The coffee and lattes here are great! I prefer an iced soy latte to a hot one. I like my lattes strong where the milk doesn't overpower the taste of the espresso. Service here is always friendly and fast when ordering drinks. However waiting for a breakfast burrito might take 20 mins. They are definitely worth the wait. I always leave Groundwork with my expectations met or exceeded. Coffee shops are not rocket science, but it's amazing how many of them get it wrong. This place is definitely an exception. Groundwork stays focused on serving quality coffee, has consistent WiFi, enough places to plug in, and the temperature is right. The staff adds to the experience without being intrusive. The food is good, but I wish there were better, healthier "fast food" options. Also the seating is not optimizing the space well. I love their cold brewed iced coffee. It is a little expensive at $3.50 for a large but it also has a lot of caffeine. They also have a rewards system. The rewards are not as lucrative as Starbucks but the coffee tastes better. read more

NEVER HAVE I EVER enjoyed coffee like I have at this groundwork. The baristas are properly trained (as I am a barista), the wide coffee selection is amazing (great number of custom blends and single origins) and I've never experienced a friendlier staff ever before. The shop has a great NYC vibe to it. Don't expect the baristas to light up for you every time you walk in the door. They're REAL people. They're always kind, but they're always themselves and I see some people on here have misinterpreted that. If you want to come enjoy the depth of Los Angeles, Groundwork is for you. I came here on a spur of the moment late night pick me up. The inside was very clean and had pretty cool art work on the wall that was surprisingly not over priced. I got a vanilla soy latte and was hands down the best coffee I have ever had. it was delicious, creamy and the beans almost tasted crunchy-Beautiful cup of coffee, I would go here everyday if i didn't live in mid-city. read more

Groundwork is my favorite coffee in Los Angeles...delicious stuff. I always get a red eye and a scone, have been coming here 2-3 times a week for 6+ years, and have never been dissatisfied. The staff are interesting and kind and I'll go out of my way to come here. They've also slowly been improving the place over the years and the service, coffee and atmosphere keep getting better. Seems like a lot of actors and actresses, people writing and reading scripts. Seating is a bit sparse, but there are a few big tables and some standard work-benches along the walls. Their taste in music might be a little too eclectic for me. One song they played was horrendous...it was like "the brown note" from south park...a series of wailings, siren-sounds, and orchestral moaning that basically made me loathe my existence. Much better for workspace than most of the hollywood coffee shops. Pretty chill vibe, people are being productive (inspiring environment) and staff is really friendly. They also have water freely available and seemingly few homeless people. Wifi performance at least on the day that I was here...was exceedingly poor. read more

We were visiting from out of town and chose this coffee shop because it was well-reviewed and near our AirBnB. We fell in love on our first visit! The atmosphere is fantastic, the staff are friendly, the breakfast items are delicious (pumpkin chocolate chip bread, muffins, scones, YUM)... and the cashew milk mochas are out. of. this. world. If you're not fussy about the flavor of your coffee. And, you don't have a bad reaction to their aioli sauce, you might like this otherwise charming Hollywood cafe. Personally, I have given this place chance after chance. I really wanted to like it. The coffee has been mediocre from day one. So, I solved that by getting almond milk lattes instead of straight espresso or Americanos, because the milk masks the lack of flavor in the espresso itself. I came back several more times because I was with a friend who likes the place and because their food tastes alright and it's not overpriced. But --BUT --they pour this spicy aioli sauce on their breakfasts. It doesn't taste bad but it tears up my stomach and leaves me in a mess for about 24 hours. It's rare for any food to mess me up like that. I am pretty resilient and don't have a complicated go-to list of dietary restrictions. I've asked them time and time again to leave the sauce off but they don't always honor my request and the result is not pleasant. The problem is, I get the breakfast burrito and you can't tell if it has the sauce or not until you've eaten half of it already. So, sorry Groundwork, I can't trust you with my stomach anymore. Ok, this place has unfinished edges, but this Hollywood Groundwork has good atmosphere, $1.40 8oz drip coffee that tastes good and is brewed well, and $1 buttery bagels. Their espresso passes my espresso snob muster. And the problem is? I was unimpressed at first, but I've come to realize that there is nothing *wrong* with Groundwork in Hollywood, which makes it awesome! I like the tea they sell in bulk. The staff are real people with personality. The customers are all different stripes. I can go there and work or feel comfortable just reading. This place gets the Jessie Seal of Down To Earth, while being on the culturally progressive side. My only real complaint is that I wish they were open later. Groundwork for the win. read more

I wish you had 6 stars so i could give it to Groundwork First of all the coffee was amazing, organic, great selection and you serve yourself which i really really love. Now, the service was great, not good but great. James the barista was one of the coolest guys ive ever met. Not nice in a im waiting on you and i have to be polite way but nice in a im genuinely concerned about how people are feeling sort of way. The girl who was working was hot with beautuful eyes i know that you know who im talking about..........ok drum roll............the entertainment.....what entertainment you might ask....... if you sit there for any extended period of time you will notice that 50% of the people that leave try to push on the pull door. I dont know why this is so funny but i promise that if you go watch you will see what i mean. So grab yourself an organic coffee, enjoy the great wait staff and watch people attempting to push there way out to no avail. read more
