I like the vibe of this place, it seems like a cool place to hang out, and the service was fast and friendly... However the juice that I ordered was absolutely disgusting "the pipe cleaner". It is a mix of green apple, lemon, and ginger, but it had so much ginger that it was completely overpowering and gave me immediate heartburn. I had to mix it with water to even stomach it. The coffee is ok, nothing special but my problem is that the staff has an attitude all the time. They are jerks every time I go there. I work next door and go there because it's close sometimes and every time I swear I'll never go back but every few months I give it a new shot only to be disappointed and pissed when I leave. The last time the guy has fit because I asked to change the milk to something non-dairy after he just started making. It's not like it's a major loss throwing out a little bit of coffee that costs them 5 cents when I'm paying $5.50 for a coffee and $8 for a fairy small burrito. Why ruin your customers day over that? Today I went again and the vibe and attitude was still a bummer. No one freaked out this time but it's still a downer. I just walked back to work and 3 other people guys I work with just got back from there also and they all are saying the same thing. The staff are jerks, at least the ones we keep getting. If they were not close I would never go there, plus it's way over priced. Don't bother with the sandwiches, they are all bread very little meat! And very dry! It's $8 for a dry sandwich with hardly any meat. read more

Overall a great place to have a coffee/tea or snack. The only major downside is that their wifi is pretty horrific. Rarely works consistently to the point that if you ask the staff to reset the modem, they are ready to bite your head off since they seem to spend half their day resetting a, what I believe, outdated modem/router. If you're looking for decent consistent wifi that doesn't break down every few minutes, this is not the place to go. If the owners would only spend 50 or so dollars on a decent modem/router this would be a better experience for staff and customers and would justify the higher prices they charge for drinks and food. read more

I can't imagine how they stay in business. This is a coffee shop and you'd think that they'd observe a few basic rules, such as knowing the roast dates and storing the beans in something other than open bins. If that sounds picky, it isn't. I grind my beans at home for espresso and freshness is vital. Add to that some shockingly rude and ignorant service and after this third and last visit at which I finally gave up and left without any beans I've gone back to driving a couple more miles to go to Intelligentsia at Sunset Junction. I actually slightly prefer the Groundwork Venice beans to the Intelligentsia Black Cat but it's a very close call and you don't have to deal with retards or gamble on the freshness of the beans. Delicious coffee, friendly staff, good vibe overall. Unlike a lot of other coffee shops in LA, there's no being hassled about how much time you spend there working on your laptop. Food is good too and reasonably priced. Just wished they would serve breakfast a little later into the afternoon on the weekends. Their breakfast burrito never disappoints. read more

I have been a fan of this place for awhile, though not what you'd call a regular customer. Just wanted to say in hopes that the owner or manager might see this, that none of the people who worked on June 2 around two in the afternoon were even remotely friendly or attentive despite my efforts to get them to be by smiling and thanking them. I really love groundwork, I do but man the last two times I've had a chai latte it felt like the barista had put hot sauce in my drink. It was wayyyy too spicy, the first time around I ordered it hot and had to toss it because it was just undrinkable and thought maybe the barista has made a mistake. This time around I ordered it over ice and it was the same thing different barista. I love the coffee and never have an issue with it but man.... If they could be made less spicy I'd be happy to try it again. Not to be douche.... I still love groundwork tho. read more

This is one of the coffee shops I frequent. My favorite drink is the Mexican Mocha. It's delicious. Besides that I really dig their organic coffees. I love that I never have to wait for coffee. I remain somewhat neutral about customer service. I percieve the employees here to be "chill" and real. Anyhow, awesome coffee, wifi, and a nice atmosphere to hang out is why I go here. read more

This place is very waspy & elitist, filled w/ peeps "in the industry", but I like it a lot because it's a small LA chain & they have organic coffee...go figure. I had probably the best iced chai tea I've ever drank and had a few hours to kill before meeting my friends to see the new movie Rush across the street at the Archlight Theater, before it opens nationwide this Friday. So, I had my laptop with me and soaked up the atmosphere as I typed and clicked away using their free wifi. The decor of this coffee house is modern and contemporary with a semi industrial loft feel to it. It was very much my style. The barista that helped me was this tall blonde Cali surf dude that kind of looked like the actor Aaron Eckhart. He was helpful, but I could tell he giving off a slight snootiness vibe at the same time. I'm sure he was one of the many thousands of struggling actors doing this as a sideline job while he trying to go to auditions during the day. Despite this, I still rate this place 5 stars. If in Hollywood,Venice, or Santa Monica skip the Starbucks and Coffee Bean even though I still like these well know coffeehouse chains, and check out Groundwork. You won't regret it. read more

Pretty annoyed with this place. Went in this morning because I wanted to try something new and it was a mistake. I really wanted an iced chai drink but I can't have dairy so I asked the chick on the register what ingredients go into the iced chai. She told me it was just brewed chai, and I even repeated "so it's just chai over ice?" and she said yeah so I got it but sweetened with their liquid sweetener. My name was called out and I was given a hot chai latte.... why would I ask about an iced chai to get a hot one? Whatever, mistakes happen, I get it, I was a manager at a coffee shop for three years. They were nice about remaking it and apologized. Then when I got it iced, it looked milky, took a sip, and I could taste the milk. I was already running late and didn't want to ask for it to be remade again because I was just over it. Wasted my time, money, and was nauseous for a couple hours. Please let customers know all ingredients in drinks when they ask. read more
