Everytime I walk sunnyvale downtown and visit the weekly farmers market, I would always eat at this place. Things has changed since. It doesn't feel authentic anymore. Staff are loud. Speaking Spanish and loud. I thought I was in a Mexican restaurant. It's lost it ambience. This place is a smaller restaurant in the strip of restaurants in downtown Sunnyvale and it's actually kinda meh. I came here with a friend and it was moderately empty, with slightly slower service and sadly the food was just kind of ok. I went there with a friend and ordered the: Veal Parmigiana - REALLY overcooked. I mean, really, tough and crunchy Linguine Seafood - the sauce was pretty good! Decent amount of scallops, small amount of calamari and shrimp Clam Chowder - oh man, this was one not great. Just flour based broth, that didn't really taste of clams and a few clams at the bottom. No veggies or anything At the end of the meal, we both received a free orange sherbet, which was actually really good, though most likely not made there either. The other bad part is the parking. Parking in downtown Sunnyvale is a nightmare. A literal nightmare that can take a while of searching for a spot, which made the food seem worse for the effort. read more

Really liked this place... easy 4 stars. It's not fancy, it's not cheap (but not expensive either). The food was good and the waiter was super friendly. Had the following: Arriabata Pasta Spaghetti and Meatballs Small Artichoke Pizza Minestrone Clam Chowder Fried sampler Clam Chowder was ok. It was elevated when I added some of their garlic ranch sauce to it. The garlic ranch sauce was offered with the pizza but it was ranch with fresh garlic in it. So basically, the clam chowder is amazing if you ask the wait for some fresh garlic to add to it :) Arrabbiata Pasta had good flavor. The waiter even brought out a more concentrated spicier sauce for me to try. Delicious. Actually added some that sauce to the clam chowder Wife really liked the meatballs in the spaghetti. Sauce good and home made. Pass on the fried sampler... it's a fried sampler. Minestrone was gluten free and had good flavor as well. I'm kinda curious what this place's tomato sauces would taste with fresh pasta. Artichoke pizza was delicious paired with garlic ranch. Overall, i'm a happy camper. read more

Wow like amazing For a person who's been living in the same area for more than 25 years walks into this place to find out how they have a "green " marked vegetarian section. The pastas pizzas and the sauces with no eggs or any meat content . The manager and the staff were totally helpful and kind. We ordered bruschetta for starters alongwith vegetarian calzone, spinach ravioli with arabiatta sauce, spaghetti with cheese ravioli combo, pesto gnocchi. They all come with a side of soup or salad . We ordered minestrone soup .. totally delicious!! The manager was so kind that he served us complimentary orange flavored sorbet yumm ;) since there was no eggless dessert. I had the vegan sandwich a la carte delivered for a work lunch. Sandwich was well filled and very tasty, had artichokes, mushrooms, eggplant, avocado. Nice that they had a designated vegan option, although it appears to be pretty much the only option on the entire menu. Sandwich was pretty big. read more

Tried this place out for the first time on a whim, was a little hesitant because of the yelp rating - but OMG it was great! The service was great, the calamari and pepperoni pizza was perfection, and the ranch is pretty dang good too. 10/10 would come back again. Seriously good read more

Went on a Sunday after church service. The staff was very nice. I was not super hungry and there were not many choices for small plates. I settled for the mini pizza, which is more like a small. I loved the crust, which was thin & the edges had a nice crunch. I was a little disappointed with the sauce. Not enough of it! They did end our meal with a complimentary dessert. I had the opportunity to have lunch yesterday at Gumba's in Sunnyvale. We sat outside which was lovely. My friends had different sandwiches and shared that they were very good. I ordered my favorite Chicken Caesar salad. I asked for light dressing so it wasn't too wet. They certainly delivered on my request. Plenty of well seasoned chicken as well. Our server was Sophia. She was impressive! Her attentiveness to us and our needs was wonderful. Let's talk about her smile! So genuine and very authentic. When I come back, I would request her to be my server. Went for lunch yesterday. Enjoyed the food and our server, Sofia. The salmon pesto sandwich was tasty; the salmon was cooked perfectly and the pieces were generous. The pasta salad on the side had a good texture, both the pasta and the veggies. There are other choices for sides if you don't want pasta salad. Sofia asked if we wanted our drinks right away or with our meal, which was nice of her. Prices for both food and drinks (we each had a glass of wine) were reasonable. We sat outside; it was a sunny day so it was nice to have that option. It had been awhile since I had been to Gumba's, but I would definitely eat there again. Pleasantly surprised! Normally I don't love places with massive menus as I don't think they do anything well. However, the dish I had here for lunch was fantastic! We came on a cool but sunny Thursday around lunch. The place was pretty empty outside, and we opted to sit in the sun. We were served right away. We ordered from the lunch menu as the server told us the portions were large. Food: Garlic bread with cheese (appetizer) 3/5, I felt the cheese on this was unnecessary and took away from the garlic flavor. Garlic bread (comes for free with food) 3.5/5 pretty standard but tasty and better than the app. Tilapia over spaghetti: 4/5 this was delicious and well executed. Fish was cooked just right and lightly breaded without being too breaded. The butter garlic sauce gave the dish great flavor. Service: excellent. The food didn't come out right away but the appetizer was well times and our server kept us informed on when the food was arriving. Our water was kept full. Ambiance: lovely to sit outside. I cannot speak for inside. Overall, I will be back to try other pasta dishes! read more

Visited on Friday night for the 2 way special and it was such a treat! We got a draft beer and a house white wine to pair with the meal. For starters we chose a green salad with Italian dressing and clam chowder in addition to the garlic bread. We picked pepperoni and mushrooms as our toppings and the pizza was fantastic! Staff was great, very attentive and lovely service! They even brought us a little cup of ice cream to end our meal! My family has been loyal customers of Gumba's for many years, to the extent that they have our number and name saved and know it's us whenever we call. We always order takeout and our go-to order is consistently the barbecue steak calzone. It is a perfect portion size (one calzone for two people or the full thing if you have a big enough appetite) and the barbecue sauce and cheesy dough combo is amazing. Highly recommend this calzone flavor if you are a fan of barbecue flavored things. This calzone is literally the best calzone I have ever tasted in my life; no other one has compared. 6 course seafood meal for $22? Get out of here! We have come here many times before, always with a Groupon. Memorable because the $50 Groupon was incredibly restrictive: no steaks, no seafood, no veal, and no salad appetizers. This includes pasta dishes with seafood like shrimp. Ended up having to order 3 dishes of pasta and/or pizza to make it to $50 for two people, rendering the Groupon overordering. Today's deal was good on Monday-Thursday before 6pm. Got here just before 6pm on a Thursday. Both of us ordered the blackened catfish at $22. Service is good, and ambiance excellent. Too cold to sit outside. Meal came with bowl of chowder or minestrone. Chowder was OK, creamy but not a whole lot of clams. Three pieces of buttered toasted bread, along with vegetables, and pasta. Each main entree came with the three filets of blackened catfish, with tartar sauce. Catfish was decent, with just enough powdered spice on the outside to liven up the otherwise bland white fish. Afterwards a scoop of ice cream, just what I needed on a cold March evening. You can still get the six course blackened catfish dinner in December, but it will cost you $28. First and only time wife and I went to Gumbos without a Groupon. read more

The person who greeted me when I walked in and help me sit down was very kind. He was able to do a slight tweak to my order. He is also very kind to other customers as well as mindful. I'm really picky about pasta, this spaghetti with mushrooms and meatballs was really really good. They give you 2 servings, maybe 3 (I honestly don't eat a lot), so I'm glad I have left overs next several days. The ambiance is inviting very Little Italyesque (I lived in NYC from 2001-2007 -'s worked around the Chinatown/Little Italy. Be aware they will try to rip you off- What is normally a bottle in a normal restaurant they call a carafe. What they call a carafe in a normal place they call a half. And $36 for Robert Mondavi!!! It's a $10 wine at the grocery store. What a slap in the face to Italians their wine selection is. All they have is Pinot grigio for actual Italian wine. Don't bother with upgrading the salad with your pasta. They'll charge you for a full salad & only take $5 off. So what should have been a $50 meal ended up being $85. $80 because I asked them why they charged me for a full salad. At least their menu has a better selection than it used to. It used to be just red sauce & not great white sauce options. The food was decent, but I was not wowed. When we're all living paycheck to paycheck out here I think I'll take my hard earned money somewhere else that doesn't play so many gimmicks... read more

Came here for a birthday celebration because my son likes Italian food. :)  Food was delicious. I liked my Linguini Seafood, albeit pasta is not my thing. It was scrumptious and well balanced with fresh seafood, mushrooms and well cooked pasta, tossing in light, tangy tomato sauce seasoned with spice, which was not overly liquidy. Salad was fresh. Portion was generous.  Service was good in general. Waitress checked on us and made sure we were taken care of. The only complaint was she said she'll bring extra bread but never did. If I were her, I wouldn't have offered to begin with when I had sent out some large carb-filled dishes.  We sat outside and had to switch tables to avoid the nuisance of tiny droppings from tree above. Unless you want extra mysterious ingredients, I would recommend sitting under a patio umbrella. Outdoors seating would give you a chance to be immersed in the vibe of the historical Murphy street. read more

During the summer around June, I had discovered downtown Sunnyvale!! Although I'm a fellow Bay Area resident, I never knew there was such a place like this :D As I walk around downtown with my best friend, we stumble across a scent that drove us into Gumba's!! We ordered two different types of pizzas, and everything was perfect! There was a sweet lady taking our order, but I wasn't able to catch her name. She saw how enthusiastic and crazy we got over food and we savored each bite. The cheese was cheezing and the crust was crusting if you know what I mean. Before we left, the kind waitress brought out ice cream for us as a treat. Later on, in November, a group of friends and I came back to Gumba's to celebrate a birthday. This time, we were able to try some more items on the menu such as calamari and the mozzarella sticks. Compared to the pepperoni pizza I tried in the summer, I enjoyed the margarita pizza as well. The environment in the restaurant is friendly, and to be honest, we ordered roughly 4 dishes, 2 being full sized pizzas, and it filled our stomachs to the end! read more
