Got this for a quick lunch near work. Generous portion however the plate overall was a bit bland for me including mixing it with the white and red sauce. The lamb was super tender. I found myself being extra careful as I ate because I noticed pieces of whole spices such as clove or cinnamon and I definitely don't wanna chew on that personally. Gyro Hut has been around for a little while now, but I just got around to checking them out since Houston has so many Halal options these days. This place in particular is close to some of the heavy hitters and claims to be straight out of New York. I can neither confirm nor deny that, but it's a good option nonetheless. The restaurant sits in a shopping strip with a decent amount of parking. Inside is spacious with enough seating and is nice and clean. Customer service was good the one time I went into the store. The other times I have had it was delivered to my work place. Just like the other Halal spots in town, one of their main items is the platters of rice and protein. You got your typical chicken, lamb and falafel, but they also have chapli kebab, fish and shrimp. I've never strayed from the chicken and lamb, but my friends say the seafood items are solid. I like to get the combo chicken and lamb over a bed of rice with the white and red sauces. I always get lettuce, onions and cucumbers as well to brighten up the dish and give it some fresh notes. Mix it all together and you got the perfect bite. Their meats are solid. It was always packed with flavor and tender. I think their rice is better than some of the other spots. The sauces are not as great as the other spots though. I feel like the red sauce is a bit too runny and barely packs any heat. I need to step it up to the fire sauce next time. The platters are pretty generous and can easily be a couple of meals depending how hungry you are. Recently, we had a gathering at a friend's house and she purchased one of the smaller party trays. They were extra generous with the portions and most of us packed to go platters to take to work the next day. Solid option for group gatherings. Overall, Gyro Hut is a great option when you trying to satisfy that chicken and rice craving. Nothing beats getting it off the street carts in NYC, but places like this will do just fine for now. I always get the lamb platter but decided to try the gyro sandwich with crinkle cut fries. It was really flavorful. The fries were little too hard for my preference. I was craving lamb over rice in the med center area and decided to give this place a shot after checking out the online reviews. I got the combo (lamb and chicken) over rice - it was so good!! 5/5 - the lamb and chicken were both so flavorful and tender, not too salty or greasy - the rice was also seasoned well and had cumin seeds - the veggies were great and fresh (corn/chickpeas/lettuce/onions) - I normally don't like raw onions but it wasn't bad or "spicy" - I LOVED the addition of crumbled feta on the side, it added such a great flavor - the white and red sauces were very good. Red sauce wasn't too spicy in my opinion. Especially compared to other gyro places I've frequented like gyro king, halal guys, and Jones fried chicken - I asked for sauce on the side and tbh I really didn't need to add a lot of sauce because everything was seasoned so well. I wish I had a picture to share, I normally take pics of my food, but that's how good it was! I will definitely be back. The portion was perfect. It wasn't too much and it wasn't too little. Absolutely stunning! I didn't get to visit the Gyro Hut location but ordered them through DoorDash since I arrived at my hotel super late. The order was promptly delivered and it was still warm. My friend and I each ordered a combo rice platter. I added olives and corn to mine. When I opened the container, I was greeted by a symphony of meat, rice, and veggies. The portions here are huge and they pack a lot of protein into the bowl. There was a good amount of well-seasoned chicken and lamb, along with rice, lettuce, tomato, and other veggies. The white sauce is amazing and complements the combo platter very well. On the flip side, I would avoid using too much of the red sauce if you can't handle spicy. Honestly, Gyro Hut has become one of my favorite Mediterranean places to order from. The food is fresh and flavorful and the portions are Texas-sized. My second trip, I decided to go with the combo platter with a side of pita. Out of the two, I think I prefer the platter. They are both really good, but platter just stands out a little more. I've been called a stud and a slut I've had random dudes grab my butt (see previous reviews from today) But one thing's for sure I expected much more Than the food I got from Gyro Hut We were quite disappointed by the Gyro Hut. It didn't really do it for us and is sort of like a poor man's Houston version of the New York Halal carts. It's definitely modeled after Halal Guys but I don't think it does a great job, and honestly neither do Halal Guys any more. But I'd take them over this, despite the corporate-ness, just for freshness. Service is fine and decor is actually nice, but it's just that the food doesn't blow me away. As a vegetarian that lives in the medical center, I was thrilled when I heard a falafel place near me opened up. I've been here twice so far and it is either a falafel sandwich or falafel plate option. I always go for the falafel plate which comes with rice, falafel pieces, pita, and some vegetables. They have multiple sauces and it always taste good. The place is small and has some tables, however I've never seen it packed so you are guaranteed a seat.
