Right up front: Our family has been and continues to be big fans of the Habit. We love the food. Over the years we've had good customer service here and at other locations. Today was different and I'm writing in hopes that maybe our experience will be heard and help avoid situations like this in the future. At 5pm today I used the app to place an order and selected the drop down option of pick up at 6:30pm since that was the earliest I could get there. At 5:53 I received a text telling me my food was ready to pick up. Which meant that the hot burger would sit for almost 40 minutes and the salad with hot ahi tuna would sit and get the salad warm for 40 minutes until I arrived. I called the phone number listed for the store and was stuck in a web of AI answering. Everything I asked to speak to someone I was told by AI that I could leave a message or go to the website. I kept insisting to speak to someone and after the fifth time it finally put me through to someone in person. Not at the store. Apparently there is no direct line to the store anymore. The best the person could tell me was to go at 6:30 and ask them to remake it while I wait longer. I hurried to get there by about 6:15 and asked to speak to the manager. I tried to explain as politely as possible, but my concern was brushed aside with a dismissive, "We'll remake it for you. Hold on." In lieu of any sort of apology or owning of the problem, he said (direct quote), "Well, another lady just before you had the opposite problem." I have no idea what that meant or how it was an answer to my situation. He also told me, "The order came through and we just made it." When I asked if that was normal when you order through the app and specify a time, he reluctantly acknowledged it wasn't supposed to happen that way. So as I waited, he came over and asked, "What dressing do you want? It says no dressing." I double checked my order on the app and it clearly said "Ranch dressing: no change." So I'm not sure what made him think I hadn't ordered dressing. When I opened the order to check, the ahi tuna that was supposed to be seared was cooked well done all the way through and dry like chicken, but by that time I had just gotten home. We will still keep eating at the Habit. We really like it. My hope is that the manager would hear our experience and consider a different approach to hearing regular customers who offer a legitimate concern and constructive feedback. Not sure where to start. This location used to be really good. Today, I was there at noon. The food was good but not great. Burger was okay/good and Fries were meh/mid. Although they cook your food and notify you when it's ready, everything else seems to be self-serve. I wasn't allowed to pay with cash. Tables were not clean and bathroom was messy. As I was waiting, there were two different customers that came up to the counter and waited to place orders. The first one left after being ignored for 3-4 minutes. The second one waited a few minutes and then the guy behind the counter said "You need to order through the kiosk, ma'am." She left. Cash paying customers are apparently not welcome. I noticed that the actual manager Jenni was very rude to a customer who was inquiring about business hours. The customer was simply trying to make conversation and the manager Jenni turned it into a you're wrong and I'm right thing. She seemed so dark. I ordered my food and went on with my life. Being as I love the habit so much, I returned a couple days later. This time Jenni was cold and worse customer service than a robot. I just didn't mind it too much. But when I got home, I noticed that my tuna was ultra thin and way overcooked as tuna should always be pink in the middle. Although late in the evening, I decided to head back to the La Mirada location (I live in Norwalk) and get a replacement tuna sandwich. When I approached her I was very kind and understanding but Jenni was rude and defensive with me, not taking any responsibility for my whole experience. All I asked for was for her to remake my tuna but when she went to the cooks and said she wants another tuna but wait on it, then they went back to the kitchen and I felt like I suddenly didn't trust them. So I just asked for a refund. She said because I ordered on my phone she couldn't give me a refund for 3-5 business days and that she would do the refund after hours and that there was nothing she could give me that I could use as proof in case this action was not completed. I just left disappointed and my little brother felt bad for me because I was hungry. So we drove to the Norwalk habit - staff was friendly and even specifically said tuna comes pink in the middle are you ok with that! It was like night and day how the 2 stores are ran. Later, I followed up with customer service to share my experience and they promised me some kind of like habit bucks that they never ended up sending after a month. I mostly just cared about Jenni getting some training on ethics. This is a bad look for the habit, especially in this economy. So my call to action is to avoid the La Mirada Location. She failed to properly train me on how to use the recognizer and then we waited for 20 minutes for the line to clear up, which was very inefficient. Went into the Habit for lunch. Had a wonderful meal with my son. He just loves this place. We live close by this location and we really should come in more often. The parking lot is a tad tight and that may be the reason. They haven't share with a couple other businesses, so that makes it hard at times and the lot is small, in my opinion. The restaurant was clean and employees inviting. My son had the double char w cheese and it was sooooo fresh. I had a single char with cheese and avocado and I couldn't believe how wonderful it was. The last three times I've gone to this restaurant and have ordered food "To Go", I have added avocado to both mine and my wife's burgers. I'm too stupid to remember to check the order before I leave and sure enough I get home and you guessed it, "NO AVOCADO". At the cost of $2.20 each burger, times six burgers, that's $13.20! More than the cost of a burger. I finally go back to request a refund and thankfully I took pictures of my burgers without avocado, but even the cook confirms that he didn't put avocado on them. I am assured that I will receive a refund no later than the following Friday. Not sure why I had to wait. Pretty sure you can guess that the return was never issued. Can't say that I'll never go back, but I'll try to avoid going back to this particular store, and I'll dang sure check my order before I leave. Just sad that customer service and accountability have gone out the window and these are the people that want minimum wage to be $25 an hour. I walked into Habit la mirada at 6:02pm. And placed my order with a young Ladie. At first it started off good. But then it all changed. As I am feeling up my two beverages. That same you he Ladie helps a customer out and he orders a shake. Then the Ladie at the register goes to another empty named Monica I believe. And they start to gossip about a party on Saturday at Monica's house. And how she needs the day off but yet is not paying any attention to the orders in front of them. Long story short, my Mother and Sister went to go pick up food from here yesterday from curbside. They were waiting at the original curbside pickup which used to be at the front of the door, so they end up waiting there for a long time! Without them knowing where the new curbside pickup is at. My girl got up and they gave her new fries. Then I went to eat my burger and it has extra mayo on it. I went to the cashier and took him I said no mayo. So he said they would make me another burger. The meals I've tried here is the BBQ grilled chicken salad, the BBQ bacon char burger and the fried tempura green beans. All three are delicious! This is a new location and so far they seem to be doing far better business than the Burger King that occupied the space prior. The burger was fantastic both times I ordered, the salad is great. I love that the grilled chicken is seasoned very well and the tempura green beans are actually my favorite! I think these are a fire replacement for French fries and they pair really well with a spicy ranch. The only reason I give less than five stars is because my food is never hot (with heat) after ordering which is hard to understand, if it's made to order. I would love for that to improve. I go to this place because I feel this location makes nice good tasting burgers. Tonight I ordered on the machine. I waited. Later I went up and asked if my order was ready. And they couldn't find it in the computer. Now the computer had been texting my order confirmations. So... I don't know what happened. They asked me to order again. And my morale became so low at that pointe, I just had to get out of there. I didn't want to say something bad or do something illegal. So I just said "forget it" and walked out. I recommend they get rid of those computer ordering machines... they don't work anyway. And they replace the owner. Because that person isn't giving them enough staff. Parking is easy but the parking area is a bit small and shares the space with other businesses. Everyone inside is kind and welcoming. The food was made correctly! The restaurant was clean and quiet. Loved that they didn't have music blasting so it was easy to have a normal volume conversation. I lived in Santa Barbara and enjoyed The Habit for years before they started popping up everywhere. Recently, I started eating meat less frequently and order alternatives whenever it is convenient. At The Habit, I don't even notice that I am not eating meat when I have Impossible patties as a substitute. Unfortunately, my recent visit to this location left me wanting more. Not because of the meat substitute but because that change apparently threw off the whole process and they only put one patty in my SB Char instead of two! The guy who took my order verbally confirmed that I wanted the same sandwhich with 2 Impossible patties. My receipt indicates I paid for it. Absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life at this restaurant...I dined there last night with my son. We ate near the front in an almost empty restaurant. After the meal, I decided to place an additional order to-go to bring home for my husband. When they handed me the food, they forgot the fries. Okay, no problem. They checked the screen and verified I was shorted on my order. When I got home, he opened the bag and the food was someone else's order entirely, filled with ingredients he is allergic to. Literally 15 minutes after leaving, I was back at the restaurant. The door was locked and I see that they had just closed. I knock on the door because I was just there and everyone in the place could clearly see that I was just there. I'm standing out there during a rain storm, showing them the bag, trying to let them know they gave me some else's order. EVERY SINGLE PERSON in that restaurant looked at me and made the decision to ignore me. They were staring at me, laughing amongst eachother, manager giving very dirty looks. Hello...YOU GUYS messed up and I am simply trying to let you know and if you can't replace the food, at least refund me or let me know who I can speak to later and what I need to tell them to get a refund. Have the basic decency to acknowledge that your customer is out there trying to get your attention in the rain and there is very obviously a problem that occurred. Finally, several minutes later, a young male comes to the door. I explain the entire situation to him and once he realizes what happened and why I'm out there, he genuinely apologizes for the circumstances and says he'll go get a manager to help me out. He lets their lovely manager know, who stares me down, and makes the decision to continue actively ignoring me while I am literally standing out there in the rain. More minutes pass and eventually with a smug look, she lazily strolls to the door, refuses to use any words whatsoever, and points to the closed sign and motions to me to leave. This entire situation was a joke to them. They enjoyed behaving like this and continued to smile about it. To Habit corporate, CHECK THE SECURITY CAMERAS and see for yourselves how your employees are treating customers because the disrespect was embarrassing to your establishment. NOT ONCE did I show any disrespect or attitude to anyone there, even after the way I was treated by all of them. You don't need anything beyond the most BASIC customer service skills to let your customer know what can be done about the situation. You all recognized me as a customer who dined in and was literally just there minutes prior. Obviously I came back because something happened with the order. Do you think I wanted to be there? I wanted to be home relaxing with my family, but I was back during a rainstorm because of your mistake. $50 plus tips later, I am left with sheer disgust with the way I was treated. And by the way guys, I found the receipt later in the bag and YOU DID give me someone else's order. A huge middle finger to all of you for your behavior. read more
