We entered Haiku with high expectations. The handsome interior and active Tuesday afternoon lunch crowd only added to our excitement. We left Haiku having had an acceptable meal but wondering what all the fuss is about. We shared the Spicy Szechuan Wonton appetizer. Pork and Shrimp wontons with crushed peanuts A tasteful starter and at $8.50 - an eight piece steal. We also shared the Tuna Pizza which was the highlight of the afternoon. Neatly prepared and refreshing this menu item is a must order. However we found both the Wasabi Tobiko Roll (tuna and avocado with caviar) and Hawaii Roll (spicy shrimp, tuna, king crab) simply boring. Fresh but tasteless at $14.95 and $15.95 - a disappointment. I come here often and find the service to be friendly and quick. If you come for lunch you can get in and out pretty fast if you want to. The food is good, lots of nice roll options plus other Asian dishes. It's a modern yet cozy atmosphere. read more

When you go to a strip mall sushi restaurant do you confidently tell your friends and family you are into Japanese cuisine? Do you look the other way when the menu has a spicy tuna roll then all of a sudden there is general tsos chicken on that same menu? I get it, it is what it is, Its what we call fusion. I don't usually eat chicken parm with a side of egg drop soup, but to each their own. The food is not terrible and I was able to consume the meal. If you are into panko bread crumbs and spicy mayo drizzle and excellent parking,this is the place to be, I will get takeout again. read more

Had a perfectly acceptable meal here. But it showed a place going through the motions. The sushi/sashimi combo -- at a $26 plate, had just salmon, yellowtail and tuna. Nothing more creative you could do? It was fine, though strangely, each sushi tasted a little sweet. Not a bad sweet, but I'm more used to the flavor of the fish standing out a little more. And the pad thai was just ok. A little too sweet again for my taste. The dumplings seemed a little too canned, and the chicken satay came with just 2 pieces -- kind of a ripoff for the price. The hot & sour soup was a little peppery but overall, solid. Service was good and they put up with a large party. Would I come here again? Sure. It was a good neighborhood place -- the type you could come again and again without being fearful of the quality. But you just won't go "wow" afterwards. read more

Very good food and good sized portions. My family usually orders Chicken Pad Thai and 2 take out orders are more than enough to feed 3 people. The food is of good quality and is reasonably priced. Chicken with broccoli, chicken with spicy mango sauce, and lo mein are also great. My daughter likes the sushi. They get busy on weekends, so be prepared to wait for a table for dinner. They will not seat you until the entire party is there, either. The restaurant itself has a modern feel but it is not very large. read more

I used to like Haiku, but it has gone downhill. You'd never know - walking in for lunch, though, as it was empty when we arrived, but packed when we left. I ordered steamed shumai and chicken with udon noodles lunch special for my daughter, and the sushi lunch for myself. The soup, salad and dumplings came out quickly and were good. Shortly after my sushi arrived and 4 of the 5 pieces weren't good - 1 was completely inedible. The spicy tuna roll was just ok. As I was about 1/2 way through my lunch I asked the waitress where the noodles were and she looked at me as if that was the first time she was hearing about them. Then, all of a sudden, she remembered and said they're coming right out...5 minutes later, they arrived (with no apology) but I had them packed up to bring home b/c my toddler wasn't interested any longer. Décor at this Haiku is much nicer than the one in Bronxville , dimmer lightening and more geared for couples in my opinion although they have a nice small to medium sized bar. There was one loud mouth at the bar (at lunch time) and his conversation echoed through the restaurant. I've found the restaurant in Bronxville to be noisy but on this day in Eastchester it was a more subdued crowd. Bronxville seems to attract a lot of young adults and families with children so it is inherently louder. The address may say Scarsdale but trust me this is Eastchester on White Plains road across from Lord & Taylor shoping plaza. My dining companion this trip was my adult daughter and we both had sushi and a hot meal. I was reluctant to order sushi or sashimi because there was a strong fish order when we walked in. I have to admit it turned me off and not sure why we didn't leave? Probably because we had been shopping and were starving. The tamago was ok, nothing special and her spicy scallop hand roll was very average. Honestly it tasty a little "fishy" and I would not have eaten the order had it been served to me. I had the white sesame chicken which was delicious and she had the chicken & baby eggplant in garlic sauce which like most places gives you an overabundance of eggplant with much less protein. They do offer lunch prices and at $8.95 for my dish with rice and a choice of soup or salad - very good salad it was a bargain. I did not try her dish, but she said it was good. Overall it was an average experience and while we left with our belly's full I doubt I'd return. Too many other restaurants where the food is above average to return to just an average place. read more

My least favorite branch of the Haiku empire. The service has improved since opening. There is less tendency to rush you through your meal and turn the table over. We split some appetizers : spicy sesame dumplings were good, chicken Negimaki was strangely tasteless- but then again, it was chicken. There was some ground chicken stuffed into lettuce leaves that my wife loves but that I find bland. Entrees were less good. The sushi and sashimi combination was OK, but unimpressive. One of my kids ordered some sort of Malaysian chicken that was devoid of taste. My wife and daughter really like the Haiku restaurants, so I wind up going once in a while. I would be just as happy not going. read more

What a cute restaurant! Very chic - A rarity for restaurants in this area. Great bar with reasonably priced drinks. Unlike other reviewers, my food is usually delivered in a reasonable time. Went here for dinner on a Sunday evening and was surprised to see how busy it was. Ordered the gyoza and peppercorn squid for appetizers and both were good. I did like how the squid was prepared. Ordered the sashimi deluxe, chicken pad thai, General Tso's, crispy red snapper and salmon teriyaki. I would all the dishes were good as expected, though I though I understood the salmon was a little dry. I really enjoyed the snapper and the sauce it was prepared in. I thought the service was good, though a little slow because it was crowded. This is a place I would go back to again. read more

Haiku has been one of my favorite restaurants for a long time! They have great options on the menu for non sushi lovers and sushi lovers like myself! Haiku by FAR has the freshest and most delicious sushi options. The spicy tuna and spicy salmon have to be my favorite of all time. Of course I have had sushi at other restaurants but nothing compares. I also love their Wonton soup, always piping hot and so fresh; not too salty like others. Not only do I love their food, but also the friendliness of the staff and the environment. Haiku is always spotless with beautiful decor and calm colors and lighting. The staff is always friendly and constantly fill up drinks right away or get whatever you would like in a timely fashion! Go Haiku!! Definitely will be back! read more

Got takeout from here the night before New Years. My boyfriend and I shared our sesame chicken and pad Thai. We both woke up with food poisoning and were in bed for 2.5 days. Called the restaurant to let them know so they could hopefully make sure all of their food was ok, not let this happen to anyone else, etc.. The person that answered the phone pretended like she had never heard of "food poisoning?". Then, she proceeded to tell me everything was fine and no one else had called. Not even an apology or a reassurance they would check into it. We go to the Bronxville location all the time and have never had an issue. In hindsight, the sesame chicken didn't taste right and we should have thrown it out. Disappointed in how they handle reports of food poisoning - won't be going back there again. read more

Decided to give it a try. Mistake. Edemami was over cooked and tasted weird, like they cooked it in some broth. Sushi, California roll and spicy tuna, big, oversized, uneven pieces. Not very appealing and didn't taste good. The worse part was fried rice. Gosh. Disgusting. I didn't even eat a bite. Looked like it was just saturated with soy sauce, but yet absolutely tasteless. This place is excellent.. Love their Udon noodles with Chicken. The only downside is that I feel guilty of consuming too many calories when I eat here and I'm not a small guy. Their sauces are amazing .. noodles are okay but the sauce makes up for it.. Lunch is probably the best bet here.. a little cheaper than dinner and portions are probably a little smaller so less calories. read more

Every time I have dined here I have not been disappointed. Tonight, I started with the edamame which was just the right temperature with the right amount of salt (a balance many restaurants miss), followed by the Twins Roll (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and avocado on the inside and whole crispy soft shell crab on the outside) and the Philadelphia Roll, both with brown rice. Both rolls were excellent and neither was overwhelmed by the rice. If you enjoy both a fully edible, fried soft shell crab and spicy tuna (like I do), I highly recommend the Twins Roll. Haiku is also the only place I will order Philly rolls anymore, as I have yet to dine someplace else that has achieved what I consider to be the ideal ratio of ingredients for a Philadelphia Roll: about two thirds smoked salmon and one third cream cheese. At Haiku, this is lightly garnished with scallions instead of throwing off the balance with a section of cucumber or avocado. The only downside is that the table service is slightly disorganized. Our server took our order for Voss sparkling water and then came back and said that there were currently no cold bottles. Also, he was waiting tables in different parts of the restaurant so we eventually had to flag him down for more water. Note also that if you don't like dining somewhere that is slightly dark and/or loud, dinner at Haiku is not for you (I'm personally unfazed either way). I have yet to experience what lunch at the restaurant is like. I have to mention as well that the delivery service, which I have used once, is very prompt. I plan to use it again the next time I want to order in sushi. read more

My mom took me to Haiku after a couple hours of dress shopping at Lord & Taylor across the street. It was around lunch time so there weren't very many people. We were immediately seated and given menus. I ordered the Vietnamese salad and an eel avocado roll, both of which were very good and came in no time. The salad was refreshing and the added crunch from the noodles made it such an interesting dish. My mom ordered the Malaysian curry with chicken and I was lucky enough to take her leftovers home. It was SO good! Service was great; our waitress was very nice so there were no complaints there. The ambiance was appealing; it definitely looks like the kind of spot that would be great for a romantic date night. The interior, including the bathroom, was very clean, which is always a plus. If I'm ever in the area again I'd definitely stop by to try more of their dishes. read more

We felt very rushed....which is not something I ever like to feel when my bf and I finally get an opportunity to enjoy a nice meal out. Once we would go to eat the last piece of something, the plate was already being removed and it was on to the next task. I was hoping to enjoy the dinning experience and that was def not an option here. It won't sway me from going back or ordering takeout again but it was a let down. Haiku represents some solid and very fresh sushi that has great taste, texture, and is superiorly satisfying for me. I don't skimp on sushi so I end up with very tasty selections enjoyed at a my own slow pace. It is a great place for some good company and conversation to be enjoyed with very good sushi. I am a frequent flyer of both coasts and Haiku sits right up there with some of my favorites on the West Coast. The whole "California" has the best sushi myth is just that for me--a myth. read more

I've been a regular customer for years and one day I was 2 minutes late for lunch special and was denied ! It was done with arrogance!!!! I stayed with my friend but I felt like the customer service was poor . I really wanted to leave at that point and should have. My other two friends later joined us for drinks and I noticed that the staff was making gestures behind our backs and laughing!!!! REALLY???? Restaurant was at the end of my block, so easy to get to when cooking was out for the night. It had been recommended by my husband's boss, a man who loved his sushi but it had to be top notch. The ambiance was quite nice and service surprisingly good. Everything we ordered was just what you would expect from a good Japanese restaurant.
