    Beef Shawarma Plate

I discovered Halal King Kitchen through The Richmond Standard and was very excited to check them out. This place was stuck in my bookmarks list for quite awhile. I decided to order it for lunch one day through Door Dash and I've been back about 5 times now! I told my bf about it and it became his new favorite place! I've tried the beef shawarma plate, chicken mendi, and chicken wrap; while my boyfriend tried the chicken shawarma plate. It was all amazing!!! They even come with garlic sauce and spicy sauce, which are really good! The chicken wrap is super long and about the size of my bf's forearm! Everything we've had so far has been delicious and the portions are really filling. Their hummus also tastes very fresh; I love it! I tried to order their chicken mendi before, but it was sold out and wasn't available at the time I wanted to pick up. I guess it's only available at certain times throughout the day? I finally tried it a few days ago and it was so moist and tender; it fell off the bone! The owners are super friendly and they even give complimentary tea! Halal King is truly a hidden gem and I hope more people find out about it!

Great food. Fast, friendly service. Amazing chutney. Free hot sweet tea. They said 15 mins, it closer to 5 for our order to be ready. Excited to work through the menu.

Ok it's a restaurant in a gas station, don't let that fool you!!! All their food is so good!!! Chicken mendi is perfectly cooked, moist and flavorful and not dry at all the beef shawarma is so damn good!! And all the sides like the salad and hummus is so good highly recommend this place. HABIBI!!!!! Oh and they give you hot sweet tea while you wait

Amazing chicken rice and salad, after I already ate half!

I have been eyeing this place for a while so headed over for lunch while passing by. I ordered the chicken mendi with rice and salad- no bread because I can't eat gluten. I used Google Translate to help me get that part right. The owner and employee were super nice and friendly and we got it figured out. The food was so, so good. The chicken was insanely tender and flavorful and it came with an amazing garlic sauce and a spicey green sauce. I wish I took a picture before but I couldn't resist digging in. Picture I posted is after I ate half!! I will be back to support these guys for sure. Amazing food!

Can't eat more than this and that's 2/3 left of the order.

I wanted fried chicken and stopped across the street to Krunchy Chicken but they wouldn't sell me the piece I wanted so I stopped at Halal King to pick up dinner. Thank you Krynchy., this place is terrific and I never would've known. They are a window in a gas station building and don't let that dissuade you. The food is excellent. I don't know what halal is and could google it but I don't care what it is if this food is representative of its rules. I bought the shawarma plate. I ate 1/2 and will enjoy the rest for breakfast. It's a bit spicy for me (just a bit.) My daughter says my ability to handle spice is "White Girl Zero so take that into account. Price is more than fair with the order filling a compartment take out box. My 340 pound grandson would consider it a snack but for a shrinking grandfather it's enormous.

The way I inhaled my Yemeni shawarma plate y'all. Heard about Halal King Kitchen from all their great Yelp and Goog reviews, and since our gov is relentlessly bombing and targeting our Yemeni homies and sailors, the least I can do is support our Bay Area Yemeni peeps. Yes the rumors are true, they're a order-at-the-window more so takeout spot vs dine in. They have one small picnic table if you want to eat there. The sweet man at the cashier gave me complimentary sweet black tea. Yemen don't play with their tea and coffees, and although I prefer my teas less sweet. I sipped that honey-infused sucker like it was oxygen. The rice was so flavorful. And the chicken *Chefs kiss* The naan is on the thinner side but so soft and honestly I wish I bought an extra piece so I could scoop every bit of the deliciousness in my takeout box. Comes with a lil salad on the side too. Would HIGHLY recommend you stop by this spot and maybe fill up on some gas since they're on the same lot as the gas station. Super close off the freeway if you're coming up from Oaktown or Berkeley. Sweet guys and even more sweet tea. Thanks Halal King habibis.

Really good halal food in the area! The service is quick and friendly, and they stay open pretty late which is super convenient.

This place came highly recommended by the owner of the liquor store by my house so I came once and got the falafel wrap which was huge. It came with garlic sauce and some type of spicy sauce and they gave out complementary tea. Make sure you get that because it was delicious. The second time I got the chicken wrap and the chicken with seasoning so well you can tell they put a lot of love in their food. The guy that helped me his name was Ahmed He was such a kind man. He put my food together and make sure that I had all the sauces. I'll definitely be back to try their food and to visit with them. The parking is kind of crazy because it's in a gas station but still pull up!!

Im a bit picky with food so I rarely eat anywhere twice. This was my 2nd time here. Casual spot for take out. attached to a gas station. Order at a window outside. I don't remember the name of the dish but it was wonderful. Hummus was also delish. Will be back for sure. complimentary tea is a must try. I'm not a tea person but I loved it.

Came to Halal King--right next to KKC--just to drop off some clothing recycle in the bin. But I stopped for a falafel wrap, too. While I wait, he gave me a black tea for free and it's hella good. AND THIS falafel is as long as my forearm! If you choose to give a thumbs-up or not, I hope you found my review helpful!

Got the chicken wrap! 10/10 and they have great service. The wrap came with two sauces!

I wanted to try this place and I'm glad I did. I ordered the burger and the chicken Mendel plate. The burger was so scrumptious and flavorful, it's a smashed patty with a nice slightly burnt crust for flavor, the bun was soft not soggy at all, burger overall 10/10 and not sloppy. The chicken Mendel plate oh my goodness it's very big generous portion for a reasonable price. The chicken was so tender fall off the bone and the rice is excellent. I ordered off of DoorDash and the food arrived still piping hot. Very happy I gave this place a try. Will be ordering again in the future

Why does Richmond have the best gas station food?! I found this spot while scrolling on Yelp. The photos looked good, we were craving shawarma, so we called in an order. We were surprised when we arrived that it was at a gas station. We were excited though because we love Krispy Krunchy Chicken on 23rd St, which is also at a Richmond gas station. My boyfriend ordered the Chicken Shawarma Plate and I ordered the Beef Shawarma Plate. Both dishes really hit the spot for us. The Good: - Portions were great for the price. We both finished our plates but were very full after - Rice was so flavorful and tasty - Salad was refreshing - Some of the best hummus I've had - Both sauces are so good, although I have to get double garlic sauce next time. One is simply not enough! The Slightly Less Good: - We both agreed the meat was a little overcooked, but the flavor made up for it. And it wasn't dry, but could be a tiny bit more moist. The beef shawarma mix was so fragrant though, and you could taste all the flavor profiles it was trying to hit. Very great mix. The Bad: - Not that bad, but parking can be a little tough when it's busy. There's only so many parking spots at gas stations. All in all, we really loved it and we'll be back again! I'd be interested in trying some other menu items next time as well! And double garlic sauce!

Cons: veggies were fresh but bland. Fries were pre-cut - Sysco-ish. Big con: one cheese and one bacon cheese burger with shared drink and fries was $35 plus tip. Seems like a ton of money for what I thought was a good backyard style burger but nothing fancy. I think backyard style is the best description of the flavor. A bit dry. Not super juicy. Some char flavor which some will like others will not. Service was friendly but a decade ago one wouldn't dream of tipping at a place like this. Fast food and tips? Huh. Anyway, my sweetie didn't finish her burger because she didn't like the taste. So that dropped it from a 3.5 to a solid 3. Good but not great.

They have a lot of interesting smash burger options, including a Trompo featuring Al Pastor. We got the Fat Boi, Trompo, and Highway Style fries. We waited longer than we expected, but good thing they have many monitors so we watched the World Cup while waiting for our food. When the food came, they were an impressive sight. The burgers were loaded and dripping with grease. My son liked his Fat Boi, but I thought the Al Pastor in the Trompo was a bit bland. The Trompo was also so greasy that grease was running down my hand and forearm while I am eating it, and I can feel my arteries hardening already! The Highway Style fries were decent. A smash patty laid between two layers of fries and then topped with melted cheese. It was decadent but a guilty pleasure. The kids gave the place 7-7.5 out of 10 and they said they would come back. For myself, probably not as the food was just too heavy for me.

My wife ordered an egg burrito off the site (and me a sandwich) for dinner…read more They dinged us after a while that the order was ready for pickup. I went to the store to get it. There is no one in the place, there are four (high school aged) workers behind the counter. I stood there for a good minute. Not one came over to me. I moved over and got one of their attention since they were not going to come and assist (because you know, they were busy goofing off - there was no adult there). The order was NOT ready in fact, they didn't even make the fries. So they started the fries and I stood there while they were cooked. Why did you tell us it was ready when it wasn't remotely ready? I got my order and left, got home and realized the burrito wasn't there. I went all the way back and they said "we refunded the burrito, it's only served for breakfast" First off the menu does not say this. If it's only served during a certain part of the day THEN SAY IT ON THE MENU. Second, no one thought of letting anyone know it was refunded. Just did and went on about their day of goofing off. The people at the store there couldn't give a flying yahoo when I voiced my displeasure. The last couple times we've been here the service was almost non-existent and the orders are always messed up. And this was the last time. Management will read this and just laugh. They could not care at all. Time for poorly run businesses like this to be done.

I love that you can choose the doneness of the patty. I went with medium, and it came out perfectly cooked. The bun was soft, buttery, and rich without feeling too greasy, and every ingredient seemed intentional and added something distinct to the burger. It is a very large burger, though, so be prepared for it to get a little messy. There is a restroom where you can wash your hands, but it requires a key, so bringing hand sanitizer or wet wipes may be helpful. What I don't understand is why I'm charged an additional $2.50 for the lettuce wrap when I'm not even getting the bun. If you're taking something away, what's the justification for adding an extra charge? I could understand a modest upcharge, but $2.50 for a few leaves of lettuce is hard to justify. I can buy an entire head of lettuce for about that price. What bothered me even more was that no one mentioned the charge when I placed my order. It wasn't until I picked up my food and saw the receipt that I realized I had been charged extra. Customers deserve to know about additional charges before they order, not after the fact. When I politely asked why there was a $2.50 charge, the employee simply looked at me and said, "I don't know." There was no explanation, no offer to ask someone else, and no attempt to address a perfectly reasonable question. That level of customer service was just as disappointing as the surprise charge. The burger was excellent, but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. At this point, I don't plan on coming back. Or maybe I'll just bring my own lettuce next time. Better yet, just give me the burger without the bun, and I'll wrap the damn thing myself when I get home.
