It certainly helps add to the quality of your experience when you have someone who is personable waiting the table. Maddie was our waitress this time. 2. Always great food. Everything we have had here has been spot-on exceptional! This visit we tried the crab bisque, and it was amazing... so amazing that we ordered an extra cup after finishing the bowl. 3. Always great value. The prices here are probably consistently about 33% less expensive than Pappadeaux. Actually, we were at Pappadeaux and left to come here because Pappadeaux did not have any oysters, they took the lobster bisque off the menu, as well as their lettuce wedge. Wandered into here from pepper smash and their trash ass service. Came in during happy hour 3-6 and Rudy? I believe was his name greeted us immediately. He was sweet and attentive. We switched to their patio because it was nice out and Tony (the manager) checked on us. It was awesome!! The food was amazing. The chargrilled oysters, jalapeño shrimp, prickly pear margarita, patron margarita: nice and strong!! We can not wait to go back. And it's a lot of hotties hanging around the bar! Delicious! We were at a movie at the Angelika next door and wanted to grab dinner. We randomly walked in here and ended up loving it! Started with Crab Bisque and Gumbo and they were both fantastic. For entrees ordered the Shrimp Etouffee and the Red Trout and they were excellent. Spiro, the awesome Manager, stopped by and introduced himself and gave us a complimentary soup sampler (see photo). This place is just okay in my opinion. I love seafood but I feel there are better choices. I wasn't impressed by any of my meal. I ordered the seafood platter with fried and blackened catfish and shrimp along with red beans and rice and gumbo. The fish and shrimp were fine, nothing special. The gumbo and red beans & rice desperately needed salt and some flavor. This is a really cool spot in a trendy area but I will most likely go elsewhere for my seafood cravings. read more

Went here tonight with my parents and to say the least we were disappointed. I had always seen the restaurant so packed so I convinced my parents to try it. We started with the shrimp and crab queso and it was watery and luke warm with very few pieces of shrimp or crab. The drinks from the bar were amazing and we all enjoyed our drink of choice. I then got the lobster and shrimp grilled cheese and it was not at all what I expected. It honestly wasn't good at all and threw me for a loop with the flavors. I then order a cup of gumbo instead of the grilled cheese and the amount of cumin in the gumbo was surprising. My dad got the bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops and his shrimp was served with undercooked bacon. My mom got the fish and chips and it was decent. If I ever returned here it would be for the hush puppies and the drinks but other than that I do not see myself returning. read more

Great sitting at the bar with great service from Rudy. I love the vibe and feel of this place. We alway go for the oysters....fresh and grilled are both worth trying. Try to catch them (no pun intended) during happy hour. Otherwise, you will be a bit shocked by the bill. We had a dozen fresh and a dozen grilled. We also split the fish and chips, but we finished it before I could snap a picture... but it's always good too. Only downer moment was when I pinched the older waiter (on the arm). He had on a crawfish pinch me shirt...he didn't appreciate the pinch even though it was in good fun. My advice to him... don't wear the darn shirt then!! read more

I am so glad that Half Shells remains here at the Shops of Legacy. We love walking in to see Bri tending bar and ordering a cold beer with an ice cold mug. This is one of our reliable go-to places as we always know we'll be well satisfied. No one is above their station to step in & fill a gap. If the hostess is busy taking someone else to a table someone else will step in & quickly assist you. From the closest parking garage you walk down & around to the front door. No big deal unless you have ambulatory considerations. My last visit confirmed my belief this company values their clients & trains their people to think like loving human beings: I witnessed an elderly couple walking from the garage to wind around front to the entrance but an eagle eyed manager(?) opened up the side emergency exit door to let them in instead of making them walk the unnecessary steps. It feels like everyone that works there is aware of customers & they all take the initiative to serve. A simple touch that makes everything that much better. I have recently ventured into the world of raw oysters. The looks/texture used to gross me out (to me, it looks like someone hocked (sp?) a lugi in a shell). THIS PLACE HAS THE BEST OYSTERS IN DALLAS....but take that with a grain of salt because I'm an oyster noob. The char-grilled oysters they serve are also wonderful, lemony smoked goodness. I've had the crab cake which is also awesome. In fact, sometimes I get those and a side salad and call it a meal. Nothing I've eaten here hasn't been good...I've had the crab/shrimp boil, the blackened redfish, the crawfish boil, the crab bisque, the roasted jalapeno soup - everything has tasted great. The service here is also amazing. Each time we come here, they actually go out of their way to make us a homemade mignonette sauce to go with the oysters - I wish they would put it on the menu! They also turned me onto a new wine - 14 Hands hot to trot, it's a nice white blend with just a hint of sweetness. This place is so good, my boyfriend and I came here 3 times within a 7 day period. Our first time to try this Half Shells seafood and bar grill restaurant by Legacy. There was quite a wait on a Sunday night. We had our Sunday family dinner here. I ordered one of their "chalkboard" menus for the day. It's called Blackened Lane Snapper with crawfish meat on a creamy New Orleans sauce with asparagus and red peppers. The snapper is marinated and crusted, lightly fried. The craw fish meat was mixed with the creamy sauce, lightly spiced and was put on top of the snapper. Underneath the fish were sautéed asparagus and red peppers. It's marvelously delicious! Servers are courteous and helpful. The Manager gave us the Oyster tacos for free. It's extremely delicious! Clean separate Men and Women's bathroom. Will be back here again, soon. read more

This is a great little restaurant on Legacy. They have a New feature cocktail by the name of Risky Buale '. WOW! What an awesome refresshing summr drink. Its made from Pineapple Sweet Tea Vodka from Frenchie Buale, I was so intrigued by a pineapple sweet tea vodka that was served with pinot noir as a topper I had to Google it to find our more about it. Total Wine and More @ 121 Preston Rd sells the drink in a 750ml The food is yummy especially their gumbo and catfish. Its crawfish season and lots of folks was eating the crawfish boil. Pretty annoying cause it was a place you'd go to that may not have been the nicest on the inside but the food was always solid. Parts of the food were cold. Dishes were lacking overall. The oysters did not taste fresh, and it just overall wasn't somewhere I see myself going to again anytime soon.
