Ownership must have changed, it's been a while since I've been there and NEVER was I disappointed until last night. I noticed the front where you walk in had changed. What use to a bar where light alcoholic drink could be purchase is now for favored lemonade. I order the shrimp dinner for $25 that came with two sides. They sat a plate in front of me with 8 small shrimp and a lemon slice. I was not going to pay $25 for that. The mac & cheese wasn't good at all; just saucy and not cheesy. They used to have best mac & cheese with brown top. The greens taste like they were boiled in water, no seasonings. The sides were barely warm; not hot at all. I sent the shrimp back and ordered the catfish thinking ok I'm safe with this because I ordered it many times and you would get a whole catfish fillet. I got two small pieces of the flat tail end; I personally think I was being punished for sending the shrimp back. That catfish meal was $22. The cornbread was saturated with honey top and bottom, couldn't eat that. I keep the catfish, which but I told my husband I'm not coming back ever. The only good thing I can say about the food...the ribs were really good you could taste the smoke and the catfish was seasoned to perfection; just wish I had more of it. Hambone's has been on my list for some time. I am a big BBQ fan and was excited to dine here after reading about it, but I am not sure whether it was this one or the "OG" one that is also in Bellflower. Ultimately, I picked this one, because it was open during Quarantine 2020 and had better Yelp reviews. So, as I work my way through my bookmarks in takeout, this became the choice. I have had two "BBQ Championships" at home, which have been fun comparisons of two different BBQ places on my bookmark list. Generally, it is a meat and sauce comparison, and then I pick-up sides as desired. Hambone's was ideal, because it offers a Two Meat Feast ($76) that includes meats and sauce as well as sides and bread. Impressively, my order was ready 5 minutes early and was packed well. In fact, the meat could go directly into the oven when I got home (50 minute drive) for a little reheating. For our "feast"/competition, we had: Baby Back Ribs - winner, winner, rib dinner. These were outstanding. The meats were in a metal oven ready container and were well sauced. These incredibly tender ribs were rich and delicious. The sweet and tangy sauce was the perfect compliment. The ribs as well as the sauce are totally worth the trip. We had a full rack, and these were a hit. Brisket - stick with the piggy, because the brisket was a disappointment. It was not very flavorful without the sauce and required a knife. My standard for brisket is tender enough to be cut with the side of a (metal) fork and flavorful without sauce due to the smoke infused meat and a nice bark. Cut into small pieces and well sauced, it was tasty, but it was not best in class. BBQ Baked Beans - each of the sides were a pint. The beans were pretty heavy on the sweet and could have used a tangy or salty element. In fact, they were significantly improved by taking a half spoonful with a small, cut up piece of brisket. In fact, that really improved both dishes. Collard Greens - tasty and well executed, these were a classic. The greens were tender, not overly salty and had just the right amount of smoked meat flecks to flavor but not overwhelm. Macaroni & Cheese - obviously fresh, this was a hit. I am not a big mac and cheese fan, and even I enjoyed a bite. It was super creamy and had a nice cheese later with a little color to it. Cornbreads - the feast comes with "3 cornbreads" which really short sells each 5 inch square (almost 2" tall) piece of cornbread. I wasn't expecting much, and I make cornbread frequently, but this was outstanding. It was moist, not overly sweet and had a nice crumb. I highly recommend this for sopping up the rest of that wonderful sauce from your plate. I will definitely be back to Hambone's for the ribs and greens, and probably some cornbread as long as I get enough of that delicious sauce. When we first arrived, they mentioned that the dining room was closed due to lack of staff... but David ask the owner if he could let's us in and he's be the server. He said yes... so we were able to try A LOT of things. We had the Brisket, tri-tips, beef ribs, pork ribs, soul bowls. Also, cornbread Hawaiian bread coleslaw garlic mashed potatoes. Oh the house salad is huge. We had the collard greens and the fried okra. Everything was great also, we had the chicken wings. And they were delicious even without sauce. I always order beef ribs but they are not always easy to find. They were so delicious and the sauce was good. I usually order my ribs dry because I am not a sauce person but for my first time here I ordered them the way they usually serve. Greens - Delicious! He ordered the burger and I had a bite he liked it and so did I Onion Rings were delicious Black eye peas and rice were so good. My 7 yr old ate them almost by himself. Catfish Nuggets - perfect! I like when fish does not have a ton of batter and corn meal on it. That is how I like it! This will be my go to place for ribs. When they say a rack usually that is 7 long bones at most spots. These bones are cut short like the size of a pork rib. If you are really hungry you should know that before you order. I will be going back and I hope I can order dry even though the sauce was really good. Customer service is really good. We had a small misunderstanding about the order but it was rectified and we were happy. Also I would like to share some notes as well. 1 being needs improvement, 10 being excellent Parking:  6.5/10 shared lot that stays pretty busy. I had to wait on a parking spot to open up. Outside appearance: 7.5 /10 fairly new building that's kept pretty clean. Inside appearance:  7.2/10 has a modern southern feel to it. Tables and chairs kept pretty clean. Staff service: 8.1 /10 very friendly and welcoming. Food and restaurant experiance notes: I love bbq. This place was ok. I think it's just a little over priced for me. For a $50 meal, the sides were small , I called them to let them know I was missing my side of mashed potatoes, and they refused to admit they made a mistake. They said the uber driver stole it.
