Good music and good food. There is the CRAZIEST waitress here tho. Idk her name but short dark curly hair with bangs. We had a large group and I've never actually seen someone be so rude. I've been here a lot of times and never had any issues but boy this girl was the rudest server I've ever encountered. She actually made a girl at our table cry... the girl was simply ordering drinks. Went to Hammerstone's for the blues and it was an amazing show! Great small venue and great music! We went for drinks and they were good and cheap. We didn't get food and it seemed like our waitress was trying to hurry us up to turn the table over. What an unexpected pleasure! With family in from out of town, I opted for Hammerstones because of the Soulard location, the casual atmosphere, the live music, what I'd read was a nice patio -- and oh, open on Mondays! The patio is a dud (and not because of the downpour 10 min after arriving) but the music was great and most unexpectedly, the food was too. They might just have the best Cubano in St Louis, maybe the toasted ravioli too. We're contemplating regular return trips ... much recommended! read more

Historic tavern on a corner street in Soulard that dates back to 1884. Legend has it that during prohibition it was a drug store in front with bootleg liquor out back. Has a huge patio, live music every night, and an all-day American menu. I went with my cousin on a Sunday night for some bites to eat and to listen to some live music. My cousin got the pretzel bites and I got a salad with shrimp. The salad was fair, and the pretzel bites were pretty good. The music was great, but many of the seats booths and are set up so that one person has to have their back to the music. Went for the afternoon Music, really enjoyed it. Small crowd and service for food slow. Our server was great. Didn't really go for the food which was fair at best The burger tiny, no grilled onions & not toasted English muffin. The street corn was mushy & no flavor. The fried green tomatoes was tasty. A true neighborhood bar, Hammerstone's is a great place to kick back and have a cold one. I heard they have great breakfast pizza, but we didn't make it there in time for brunch. I had chicken fingers and garlic Parmesan fries, neither of which were greasy or "heavy" feeling. If you order fries, definitely upgrade them to the garlic Parm. It's worth it. Hammerstone's has a great dog-friendly patio that you've got to check out. read more

We went to Hammerstone's for brunch because my friend was CRAVING their breakfast pizza. Per the menu the pizza is comprised of: scrambled eggs, house made pork sausage gravy, bacon, onion, tomato, green pepper, cheese, on thin and crispy pizza crust. I recently moved to Saint Louis and love, love, love the thin crust pizza here! The pizza was 'good'. The ingredients were fresh; however, in my opinion, there was a lack of sauce and flavor. When we visually compared our pizza to the ones on other tables, it appeared that there were more gravy sauce on the pizza. The waitress did bring of a variety of hot sauce (Tabasco, Cholula, Tapatio, etc); however, if I were to have this pizza again, I would bring my favorite hot sauce from home. read more

Haven't been to this place in forever. Tested out lunch which was great! Amazing staff who are friendly and give great conversation. Didn't take a pic of the toasted Ravioli but they were delicious. I'm particular and I'm always cautious at places I don't usually frequent because I hate to make the staff uncomfortable with my demands but the waitress was completely unbothered with my order today. I must say I was impressed.... My order came out EXACTLY as I requested and was served with a smile. The egg whites and pancake were absolutely delicious. Even the water with no ice was tantalizing; I think I was just in an "easily pleased" mood today. Hammerstone's has a new fan. Great service, great food, great outdoor seating for my people watching and sun bathing purposes and located in the heart of Soulard. What more can you ask for. read more

Had a great time here. Food was excellent (with one exception - see below). The skillet wedges were a tasty potato skin with a solid amount of bacon. The chicken basket was amazing and fresh. The Reuben was gigantic and delicious with crispy grilled bread, melty cheese and thousand island dressing to complement the beef. The thing I would not get is the pork steak. It must not be a popular item because I believe it had been prepared long before I ordered it. Dry as bone and tasted like bad leftovers. I NEVER send food back but it was just bad. Our waitress was phenomenal and swapped it out for the Reuben no problem! Service was amazing overall. Our waitress was Jacie (name on the receipt) and she kept our drinks full and made sure to check on us frequently. The overall vibe here is great too. You really get the feel of the neighborhood bar with people relaxing with their pets, having date nights, and even a bachelorette party. Plus they have great live music that pours onto the patio some even with the stage being inside. Would come here again and recommend trying it. The chicken seems to be their strong suit so start there! read more

We took in a jazz and blues show at Hammerstone's on a Saturday evening with Eugene & Company taking the stage and featuring the outstanding Eric Slaughter on guitar. We were told there would be a $5 cover added to our bill for each member of our party and we felt that was reasonable. My son and I each enjoyed a good cheeseburger and fries and my wife had a basket of chicken tenders. I tried one of the tenders and thought it was a little overcooked, but not bad. Great outdoor patio. Especially if you want to see a band. Pretty good environment. But beers are not that cold. That's a deal breaker for me. I can't stand it when beer is just above room temp... or anything less than ice cold. That's the reason for my 3/5. For the price you're charging for beers, make it colder or serve in a cold glass at least. So if you're looking for cold beer, this isn't the place. Awesome patio with love music and drinks are a secondary, this is your place. read more

This is my second time at Hammerstone's. The food and service was subpar. It was so bad I will not go back for food again. The waitress took so long to get to the table 3 couples around us left. When she finally got to our table she brought drinks with no straw. I had to get up and get my own straw. She took our order and it took over an one and half hours to get our food. The food was cold and not correct. I asked for onions, bell peppers and cheese in my eggs. The cook placed a slice of cold cheese on top of the eggs and there was no onions and bell peppers. I asked for bacon and sausage. I received bacon and no sausage. The waitress asked did I still want the sausage I said yes. It took 20 minutes and it was suppose to be 2 sausage patties and it was only one. The quality of food was instant, microwavable food. The music was too loud, graphic urban hip hop that uses the n word in at least three of the songs that was played. I don't mind urban hip hop but the DJ should be more mindful not to play songs using the n word. The only redeemable thing was the prickly pear mimosa was still very good. read more

Hammerstones is a drinking establishment that serves food. It is your full blown, drink around the clock spot. I have had breakfast here with cocktails. I have ordered food and drinks and taken the free shuttle to games (Rams, Cardinals). I have spent hours upon hours on the patio solving the world's problems over drinks. Hammerstones is not glamorous, it is not trendy (or hipster for that matter), it is just downright REAL. This is the real slice of Soulard. Everyone should stop here if just once. Pay homage to the Drinking God's and make an offering at Hammerstones. read more

I was here to give them a second chance from a previous visit a month earlier. It took 20 minutes to order and over an hour for food to arrive. Soulard is a funny place. Quite often it gets compared to New Orleans and the French Quarter. Not a bad thing at all but ultimately Soulard is an island, unique to the area and very community driven. Only a few times a year do "outsiders" come in and muck up the place: Mardi Gras, Oktoberfest, and St. Patty's Day. For the customer coming from outside the island, there are just a few things to understand. First of all, be respectful. Second, tip. Third, be patient and be cool. Hammerstone's gets a bad rap because it follows a relaxed trend that so many restaurants around Soulard abide by. If you're looking for great service, you might be disappointed. However, become a true patron, and you will be treated like royalty. I have been a regular customer since late April, and it has become my go to spot in Soulard. Monday through Friday they offer food and drink specials that trump most of the surrounding joints. My personal favorite is Mug Night: On Thursday night, bring your own mug, no more than 48 ounces, and they will fill it with Bud Light or PBR for three dollars! Six dollars for Schlafly Pale Ale. During the weekly Happy Hour, appetizers are a flat five dollars, and most of them stand as a whole meal. The best time to hit up Hammerstone's is definitely during the week. The head bartender Sunday through Thursday serves with a smile and a joke and even plays in a great local band. If you're looking to meet unique people and have a cheap night out, Hammerstone's might be for you! Suggestions: CHICKEN STRIPS (best in town), chicken wings, fried catfish po' boy. read more

went on a Sunday night, they were busy. Server instead of saying "Hi,be right with you..."ect yelled "we are on a 30min wait" with zero instruction on how to put ourselves on said wait. Another server cam by and said it was 1st come 1st serve and to wait for a table... that's it. Myself and my family obliged-waited for a table. We sat at an open table after about 15min wait...NBD. we waited another 20min for a serve to acknowledge us. And then informed us (after 35min of waiting) that they had closed thier kitchen, and food was unavailable. Terrible service/ communication and general organization.
