Chicken ramen broth tasted liken bamboo shoot
Maki T.

As a Japanese person and an avid lover of ramen, I usually don't leave bad reviews of ramen places but this place was a huge disappointment. Expected good food bc of the reviews... nope. Walked in, smells very strongly of bleach. Thats fine, a lot of Asian restaurants smell like this. BUT the food was mediocre at best and took a long time to come out. Mind you, we had 3 beers and I was hungover, so ramen should taste really good to me rn and touch the soul, even if mediocre. Nah, this made me sad. Thats saying something. Crunchy roll: idk what's wrong with the rice but I really didn't like the taste. shrimp tempura was burnt on the outside but undercooked in the inside. Husband said it was the worst crunchy roll he's ever had... how do you mess up a crunchy roll? The gari (ginger) was still frozen lol and wasabi had a brownish color. Crunchy chicken: just popcorn chicken, not great. No flavor. Douse it in the sweet and sour sauce. Chicken ramen: chicken breast is SUPER dry, broth tastes like bamboo shoot, not chicken. Very little broth to noodle ratio. Ate it only bc I paid for it and I don't like wasting food. Very very disappointed. Didn't have shichimi (chili flakes) only chili oil

Red garlic ramen

3.5/5 Decent ramen and sushi. I had the red garlic ramen with no sprouts and shared a California roll. Both came out in a few minutes. The ramen broth had more spice than depth of flavor and lived up to its garlicky moniker. The noodles were more on the soft side and the broccoli in my bowl was nicely cooked. There were chicken breast slices in the ramen which had a firm texture, a ramen egg cut neatly in half and a generous serving of chopped green onion. The California roll had plentiful filling and nicely cooked rice. It was rolled well. Service was polite and friendly. The interior has a relaxing feel and you can definitely see the Japanese influence in the restaurant design with clean cut lines and wood furniture.

Came here for a late dinner. The place is clean and there is plenty of seating. The service was not the best. You have to flag down the staff if you need something but they also tend to hang out towards the back so they can't easily see you. It took a while to get water refills. We ordered edamame and hanano bun to start. For our entree, we got the build your own ramen. Edamame- Served hot and fresh. Just the right amount of seasoning. A pretty solid starter. Hanano Bun- The bun is soft and fluffy. Filled with juicy meat and crunchy vegetables. Everything is flavorful. Build Your Own Ramen- I appreciate the customizability! I got my ramen with chashu which isn't the best. The meat is a bit dry. They didn't give me enough broth and I would have liked a better ramen to noodle ratio. The tonkotsu broth is creamy though. I added corn, woodear mushroom, roasted garlic, and spinach which added extra textures and flavor. Decent experience but improvements can be made.

We found this small ramen restaurant and started with some gyoza, both fried and pan grilled and both delicious! Next up was the Philly roll and pork fried rice. And I think my favorite was the Ramen. We built our own with Takatsu broth, thin noodles, chashu, green onions, mushrooms, egg and crunchy garlic. The restaurant itself self was cozy and inviting and the staff was excellent. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon.

Order by QR code at table. + Built my own bowl w tonkotsu, chicken breast, corn, green onion, wood ear mushroom, and half soft boiled egg ($13.95 + $4.50 Chashu). Thick noodles were soggy and not al dente or good, broth had clumps of whites (solidified fat?). Chicken breast was good, toppings good, Chashu ok

I came to spend the afternoon at Chapman and I was looking for dinner options. There's a lot of choices and Hanano stood out because of their affordable prices. I ordered the build your own ramen with miso broth, chashu, seaweed, broccoli, and mushrooms. The ramen was a great portion and had great flavor. They give plenty of each topping so the meal is very filling. What was really amazing was the service. Linda was our server and she elevated the experience with her friendliness and attentiveness.

DoorDash order. Ramen soup and spicy ground pork spilled all over the bag
Lester L.

Ordered DoorDash and it was packaged horribly. The ramen soup spilled all over and the spicy ground pork rice's oil leaked all over. It was a complete mess

Custom Ramen: spicy miso broth, pork belly, thick noodles, green onion, wood ear mushroom, bamboo, and a soft boiled egg
Breanne R.

Service was so fast! As soon as we came in we were seated, it wasn't too busy either. The menu's were easy to read and the music was nice and not too loud. The server was so kind to us and we were helped immediately. The food was delicious, the spicy miso broth was so good and the wood ear mushrooms were crunchy and refreshing, the pork belly portions were filling, two large pieces of meat with fat that melted in your mouth. 10/10 would recommend if you're looking for a quick and delicious ramen lunch or dinner spot!

The dipping ramen here hit the spot. It was super flavorful and I got the spicy option and enjoyed it because the spicy enhanced the flavor without making me get spiced out. The noodles were perfectly al dente and the broth was so so good. Meat on top was also very tender. I got the karaage as an appetizer and it was very juicy and bursting with flavor. The host was very attentive and gave us the right amount of check-ins while filling our waters. I liked the chill atmosphere and it was nice and cold which I need because the summers here are so hot. I ordered the Butaton ramen which had everything I like! Minus the bean sprouts. Pretty good bowl of ramen. The noodles were PERFECTLY al dente. The broth was good, but maybe a tiny bit too salty. You could definitely feel/taste the collagen in the broth which was nice. The pork belly was a bit tough and dry though. Portion wise it's pretty small. At first I was considering doing the lunch special where you can add a beef or chashu bowl for an additional $6, but I thought, "Nah, that's going to be too much food." I guess in the end it worked out. I was the perfect level of full/satisfied. However, if you're starving I would definitely recommend doing the lunch special. It's a nice space to dine at for sure! I enjoyed watching the cars/people flow through the Orange Circle while I was eating. Service was fast/friendly. No complaints there. A little steep on the price versus portion though. This meal was almost $24 after tip for a bowl for ramen. Overall, not bad! I've had much better elsewhere, but out of all the local spots I've tried around me so far, this one is definitely one of the better ones so far.

A Legendary Slurp - Gone But Never Forgotten It is a true…read moretragedy for the Orange County food scene that Hakata Ikkousha in Costa Mesa has closed its doors. This wasn't just a "ramen joint"--it was a masterclass in authentic Fukuoka-style soul food. The Broth: Liquid Gold The standout was always their Signature Tonkotsu broth. You could literally taste the 30+ hours of labor that went into it. It had that distinct "frothy" texture (the bubble of the bone marrow) that you only find in high-end Hakata shops. It was rich, creamy, and carried a deep umami funk without ever being overly greasy. The Hits * Black Tonkotsu: The roasted garlic oil (mayu) added a smoky, dark complexity that ruined all other garlic ramens for me. * God Fire: For those who like to sweat, this offered the perfect balance of heat without sacrificing the integrity of the pork flavor. * The Karaage: Genuinely some of the best fried chicken in the area. Massive, juicy thigh meat with a shattering, thin crust and that addictive spicy mayo on the side. * Customization: I loved that they let you pick your noodle firmness. "Hard" was the only way to go to ensure that perfect snap with every bite. The Atmosphere The Costa Mesa location always had a great energy--functional, clean, and unpretentious. The staff were always efficient, greeting everyone with a loud "Irasshaimase!" that made the experience feel truly authentic. It's heartbreaking to see such a high-caliber spot leave the neighborhood. If you were lucky enough to eat here, you know we lost a heavy hitter. To the team at Ikkousha: thank you for the memories and the best bowls in the city. You'll be sorely missed! Note: For those still craving that specific broth, their Torrance locations are still holding it down--definitely worth the drive to keep the dream alive. Come back to OC! !

Our server wasn't very personable but also not rude or terrible. I felt a little rushed even with a small menu. Being that I had never been there before, I wasn't sure what to get so I pretty much just blurted out whatever. What we ordered: 1) Black deluxe chicken paitan with pork - the broth was so tasty, it was absolutely delicious. The pork slices were generous, however, it was DRY. 2) Pork chashu - for my kid. They loved the broth as well and also felt that the pork slices were dry. I wanted to give 4 out of 5 stars, but I am going to hand them a 3. I loved the tasty broth, but the pork was too dry. How could you mess that up as a ramen restaurant? The portions looked a little smaller than what I am used to paying for much less money. That photo of my black deluxe chicken paitan with pork is very deceiving. It looks like a lot, but it definitely wasn't. I usually can't finish my bowl of ramen in one sitting and take the other half home. I barely had any broth in there, and being that the broth was very good, I was disappointed to run out of it before I was even done with the noodles and meat. Would I return? Sure. I liked the food. It's not a place I would go out of my way to eat at, but if I was around the neighborhood and wanted ramen, I would dine there again.
