    Kimchi jeon
    Serapina C.

Such a cozy and warm restaurant that embodies the quintessential Korean soul. I came to Hanbat for the first time (trying to make my way through all the Korean restaurants in NYC's K-Town) and had a delightful experience. Saturday night, we didn't have a reservation and there were already lots of full tables, but we were seated fairly shortly (for 2). Friend and I shared the kimchi jeon and then she got the beansprout soup, I got the gamjatang. Kimchi jeon was absolutely banger, I don't know if this is accurate but because she was so thick yet fluffy and pillowy, it almost was reminiscent of focaccia (kimchi focaccia?). Loved the chewiness, and the kimchi flavor was nice and savory. Big fan of the gamjatang as well - pork slides straight off the bone, the broth had a nice earthy and peppery flavor, and I def felt the spice for that one. Service was very generous and overall I had a fulfilling meal, reminded me a lot of my own family's cooking so that felt nice :')

Wanted to try another restaurant next door but it was packed. This didn't disappoint though, and I'm glad we came. They had plenty of banchan (not pictured) and seating. I remember coming here several years ago and the quality has remained pretty consistently high. - Galbi, (4.5/5): my fave of the 3. Perfectly marinated and had a nice chew. Lots of meat so I think the portion size is worth it. - Spicy stir fried pork, (4/5): it was saucy, pretty standard, and had a nice kick to it. Lots of stir fried veggies as well (though it did feel like there was more veggie than pork) - Seoullungtang, (4/5): warm, soulful and comforting. My main complaint is that there were not many beef slices, but I liked the customizable additions for salt. Surprisingly finished all the food as a party of 2... thought I would have food to take home but we were pretty hungry!

Great restaurant tucked away a few streets from ktown. The service is great and the banchan variety is good. the rice comes in a stone pot and you can scrape off the burnt pieces after for a nice treat.

Came here for a quick lunch on a week day. Service was very fast which I appreciated. Side dishes were fine. Bibimbap was okay. It was hot, but it didn't come in the traditional stone bowl which makes the rice slightly crispy. Overall, I would probably return again if I needed a quick bite and was in the area, though I would not seek out this restaurant again.

This is my go to spot whenever I'm craving bean paste stew or sul rung tang! I'm always able to walk in. The space is large for NYC standard. Their bean paste stew is my favorite! Every bite is flavorful and every ingredient soaks up the bean paste nicely. The sul rung tang is creamy and beef essence.

Yes, it's an easy spot to hit up if cho dang gol's line is too long (which it always is) but it's also a cozy, authentic restaurant as well. The servers are all super nice and they refilled our banchan happily 3-4 times. They have such an extensive menu, including lots of vegetarian options! I got the japchae which was large enough for two meals, and it was pretty decent! My friends loved their dishes as well. The bibim guksoo was very refreshing and perfectly sweet and spicy. The galbi jjim, i thought the soup was pretty light but the meat was so tender. The stone pot pork over rice was okay imo but my friends also really liked it.

I'm a Spicy Pork enthusiast (I order it 90% of the time!) and I paired it with the Ox Knee Slices here. The flavors were standard K-town fare but the highlight of the night was definitely the server. She was hilarious and made us feel right at home. If you're looking for a friendly atmosphere, this is the place!

If you want to be seated rather quickly and just need a quick fix of korean food or just happen to have a large party, this place gets it done. I thought my meal was lacking flavor and the some of the banchan tasted old. You know something's up when the potato salad tastes like blue cheese :( There's barely any meat in their soups too, I only had a few small pieces. So I felt ripped off paying $30 for soup and pancake

Came here with some friends and got a bunch of dishes to share. The inside was quite large with lots of seating, but you should still expect a bit of a wait (we waited 15min so it was not bad at all). The portions were smaller than I expected but the food tasted homey and comforting. It didn't stand out but it wasn't bad at all. The service was not the best, but it might have been because we don't speak korean. We asked for some bowls a few times but the waitress never brought them to us (maybe there was a language barrier?). Overall this place is pretty good if you don't want to wait in the long line that the other korean restaurant had. But the service left something to be desired if you don't speak korean

Han Bat is a small, straightforward Korean restaurant located just outside the main Koreatown area, though it's still in that general neighborhood with other Korean spots nearby. The place was quite crowded when we went, which is usually a good sign, but we were seated almost instantly. The service was fine but felt a bit slow at times, and paying was a little confusing since you have to go up to the front register yourself rather than having the waitstaff collect the check at your table. The banchan, or side dishes, were pretty standard. They did include one that was like a sweet mashed potato, which was a nice little change, but the rest were what you'd typically expect at any Korean restaurant. For our meal, we got an assortment of bibimbaps and a kimchi bokkum. The bibimbap was quite standard, very similar to what you'd get at other places. It was a satisfying and hearty meal, but we didn't feel it particularly stood out from versions we've had elsewhere. The kimchi bokkum was better, with a solid spicy kick that wasn't overwhelming. It came with a good mix of ingredients like chewy rice cakes and pieces of pork mixed in, which made it more interesting. It's a reliable spot for classic Korean comfort food in a no-frills setting.

Dinner special 1 entree & 1 small stew for $28. 3/5 sundubu jjigae- requested extra mild, but was still way too spicy 3/5 jeon- decent, not as bland as other places, was able to eat it w/o salty soy sauce 4/5 kimchi cheese fried rice- pretty good, wish it was a bit less spicy Banchan: 4/5 broccoli- pretty good, seasoned 2/5 potato salad- not a fan of anything with mayo 3/5 Japchae- pretty decent 3/5 kimchi- very spicy, very fermented 3/5 tofu kimchi- spicy

    Banchan time!

My grilled squid tasted ok. It definitely tasted like it was something you buy frozen from a pack but the Soon Doo Boo Chi Gae reminded me of my mother's. I will order that again next time as an entree alone. This is the 2nd time I am coming here. Service can be hit or miss.

We originally planned to go to the restaurant next door, but we were late and there was already a long line, so we decided to give this place a try instead. At first, I was a little worried the food might not be as good because there was no line at 12 PM and only a few tables were occupied. But we immediately regretted not trying this restaurant sooner. The bibimbap we ordered was the best we've ever had in NYC. It wasn't over-seasoned, the ingredients were very fresh, and the crispy rice at the bottom was perfectly crunchy and delicious. I strongly recommend that the restaurant update their menu and banner to let people know their bibimbap is one of the best in NYC. They deserve more customers.

Ambiance: This place has a nice ambiance, definitely very "New York" -- dark (you can't see how dirty the floor is) and loud music (maybe too loud). We sat upstairs (we had a reservation) and of all the people on the top there was a party of 4 (us), a party of 8 (all dudes celebrating something) and the rest of the tables were on a DATE - which I thought was funny. Service: We were served by Ann-Marie who was so delightful. She was kind, super nice, and took the time to speak to us (which is basically how we figured out she wasn't a native New York City person). She gave us good food suggestions and we were very happy with our selection. Food: Here is what we ordered * Steak Frites: My two boys got the steak frites and I have to say the steak was awesome! I had a bite of each of theirs and they each ordered it differently (one Medium Rare/Medium and one Medium) and they both were prepared PERFECTLY. The fries were overflowing. * Caeser Salad with Salmon: My wife got the salad with Salmon (they only have a few salad options) and she enjoyed it. * Prawn and Crab Risotto: I got this and I have to say it was VERY bland. I wouldn't get this if you are looking for taste. I had to put salt and pepper on it to make it have any semblance of taste. Value/Price: I would say this is not over priced but it is not cheap either...bill is attached. I would recommend it to folks who are looking for a good place to either go out on a date or a family type meal.

The bread was fluffy and not dry, which I had seen previous reviews say before. Paired with the creamy truffle butter, it had a luxurious mouthfeel. My favorite was the pork chop (cognac, sweet prunes, bacon, rosemary) -- the sweet and soft texture of the prune was melted in my mouth like fat, and the pork was tender, with the rosemary also coming through. The vodka rigatoni was a skip, somewhat bland and one-note, we ended up putting some of the truffle butter and garlic aioli from the fries to make it more flavorful. This was especially in contrast with the spicy shrimp pasta which was much tastier. Also got the strawberry vacherin (strawberry ice cream, meringue, vanilla whipped cream), it was my first time having this dessert. The tartness of the strawberry was great with the fluffy meringue and the sweet ice cream. Service was extremely attentive, and the restaurant is beautifully decorated with moody lighting. Although the space was packed, it didn't feel too loud or crowded. We spent about two hours and didn't feel rushed.
