This place is phenomenal. I've eaten here three times - once inside, once DoorDash, and most recently with a group of 4 people in their backyard. Every time it's been delicious. Especially dig their Bossam and Yukhejang. Was also pleasantly surprised by their seafood pancake - lots of seafood and not the mushy texture I've encountered all too many times. Hancook is one of the restaurants in the Bay that I'd prioritize bringing out of town visitors to - it's that good. read more

This was suppossed to be a 4 star review if it wasn't for the service last night. We ordered shabu shabu with the spicy broth and 3 items (pork belly, pork neck, and squid) plus the hancook combo (grilled pork belly and soybean paste soup). I would imagine the shabu shabu would come right out since the broth, meat and veggies doesn't need to be cooked in the kitchen, but on the electric stove on our table. I do not understand why it took about 20 minutes for it to come out. The meat and soup combo came out five minutes after. The food tasted good and were nicely presented but not worth it. The grilled pork belly seemed like a big portion, but there were A LOT of onions underneath, more onions than meat. The main problem was with the waiters. When we first walked in there were clearly a lot of unoccupied tables. They could've just seated the 3 groups in front of me plus my party. After waiting a long time, they finally seated us to one of the tables. Then when we ordered the shabu shabu, they told me that our table didnt have an outlet for the electric stove and ended up moving us to the table we were waiting at originally. They should've asked if we were going to shabu shabu before seating us. The waiters seem like they're all over the place and a bit slow. Note to owner: Please train your staff more and hire more staff as there were only 3 waiters and probably 1 cook in the kitchen, which explains why the food took forever to come out. They were not attentive enough and spent quality time on specific customers. However, one of three of the waiters apologized for the long wait in the beginning. One checked on us when we were basically done and ready to pay, that was when we were asked if we wanted more water. It was hard flagging a staff down for the bill. When we finally did, we showed her the 10% off on yelp and she looked at it and pressed redeem and then forgot about it and proceeded to help other customers instead. We thought someone was going to bring the bill to us but we waited 10 minutes and nothing. We got so frustrated that my bf ended up going to the front to pay and told them about the 10% on yelp (on my phone) and they said we can't redeem it on weekends, but it was on a FRIDAY. they didnt want to give us the 10% (since it disappeared on my phone bc the other waitress pressed redeem already and didnt bring our bill to us). My bf then checks in on his yelp for the 10% and they finally accepted it. Another note to owner: Don't advertise the 10% on yelp if you/your staff don't stick by it. Ironic enough after my bf paid, they gave him a 10% voucher for our next visit. We unfortunately will not take up this offer, not worth it for the wait and quality of service. Pretty great new (to us?) Korean spot on Telegraph. We actually came here 2 weeks in a row because there were more things we wanted to try on the menu! The set wrapping rolls was something I haven't seen before at a Korean place. It's ve similar (read: almost identical) to the DIY spring roll dishes you can order at some Vietnamese places, only with Korean style grilled meats and side dishes. This is based on their chicken wings ordered to-go from the YELP APP. Service was friendly and the food came out faster than the estimated wait. There was a bit of a hiccup with picking up the food because the waitress kept asking if I was from Grub Hub. I do not order often from the Yelp app so I was highly confused with the link between Grub Hub and Yelp. I told her that I ordered from Yelp and attempted to show her my order from the app. She went to the back to, I assume, clarify with a supervisor. Eventually, she came back to give me my order and said she thought I was a delivery person picking up to-go orders which is why she had to double check. This gave me a chuckle because I had just gotten off from work was wearing my scrubs from the hospital and even had my work badge on...(with the rent so high I guess I wouldn't be too surprised if even healthcare professionals had to do side gigs) Anyway, when I got home and opened the box, I could tell at first sight that the chicken was not fresh. It appeared to be old, left over chicken and refried in old oil. I was sharing the meal with with my cousin and she agreed that it tasted off and stale. So we came in here as the place across the street had nothing that we wanted, and everything on the menu here was exactly right. I got the Kimchi Tofu Soup and it was good, but nothing extraordinary. However, the service was good, always coming with side dishes and the portions are really big for the price. This was our first time trying Hancook based upon research and reviews. I made reservations for 12 for my husband's Birthday. When we arrived, we were seated promptly. The atmosphere seemed upbeat and positive with comfortable seating. My husband's family is Korean and I have eaten at many Korean restaurants in SF and the East Bay and I must say that the majority ~65-70% of the dishes we ordered were inedible. The jap chae was gummy, the kimchi soup had displeasing flavor with overcooked noodles, the seafood soft tofu soup tasted like old fish, the bibimbab have very little flavor and the pork in it was extremely fatty and poor quality. The bulgogi was lacking flavor, the short ribs were tasty but overcooked. There were 2 items that were good, the fried chicken wings (lots of meat) and bean paste stew had good flavor. Our bill came to over $450 and that was with very little drinking only ~$50 in beverages. The service was not particularly good either. We had to get our own extra napkins, utensils and the staff was not very attentive. Let's just say we will not be going back. read more

I've been there 2 times and I love both of those times. I've visit to many korean restaurants and this place had a great vibe, good service, and was totally different compared to other korean spots I've been to. Certain amounts of restaurants only have a few kinds of items that gets me back to the place, but Hancook have a bunch of items that I truly like within a few bites. I ordered with my friends, the hot stone bibimbap, the seafood pancake, bossam, fried chicken, soft tofu soup, and cold noodle soup. My favorite was the spicy flavored fried chicken. The soy and garlic one was good too, but unless there's no date, then get it. It has a lot of the garlic taste then the soy. Bossam's meat was very tender to chew on. There's still a mild smell, but I think this place is still better than others at preparing this dish. The only problem I have is the radish kimchi and the cabbage kimchi that goes with the bossam, they both were weird. Kimchi was mild like it was not salted enough, while the radish one was overly salted. Of course seafood pancake, soft tofu soup, and Hot stone bibimbap is like the safe orders. These are what I believe to be as popular order choices. I was completely thrilled seeing the seafood pancake to be more of the veggie and seafood content instead of the batter. It was a good pancake. Only problem was that ours was a bit too oiled. Though the next day with another group of friends, we had the kimchi pancake, and that was actually perfect. Especially since it was my first kimchi pancake. I thought I did right to have my first at Hancook :) Soft tofu soup was really good too. I'm not a hot soup or hot pot kind of person without 3-4 little rice bowls on my side to cool things down before leading them to my mouth, but when it finally cooled, I took some mouthfuls from my friend's bowl and the taste was great. It was nicely rich and somehow reminded me of the creamy taste of clam chowder. (It was beef and kimchi soft tofu soup btw) my thrill might be coming from the fatigue after work though haha The hot stone bibimbap is standard. You cannot mess it up. They gave us a sauce dish for the hot stone and I thought it might have been too little. But it was great. I want it to be spicier but my friends cant. So that one sauce dish was perfect. I do remember it not being spicy. Cold noodle, is my favorite dish, but at this place it was greatly presented but the taste was still lacking even with the mustard and vinegar. Still I'll still order it lol. I like this place, and I only had it once so I can't judge it yet Ban Chan are essentially the biggest thing for me. I like good korean places w good banchan, but it was half-and-half in lovable and doable at Hancook. Service was excellent and their attentiveness was great. That time around 10:30 pm only one lady was handling the front. But she still took care of all my questions and needs while handling another 6 tables around. If people knew already, serving one table is already a butt to clean up even if you order 1 item. I really hope this place does well as it's become our go to Korean spot. We've been there 3 times now and it's been good each time. I even took my Korean mom who rarely gives a thumbs up to restaurants (she always says everything is "just regular") and she liked it! She advised that if the nengmyun is good, the restaurant is good. Aside from the mool-nengmyun, I really recommend the galbi-tang. The beef is very tender and the broth is flavorful. My 6 year old also loves it so we've had it every time and it's been consistently good. The mandu is also very good - my 3 year old will eat the whole plate so I've only eaten one piece at each visit. The chicken wings portion is HUGE. Soy garlic has been my favorite although the spicy sweet is also pretty good. I didn't like the original as much but it's well fried. The seafood pancake was well made, crispy with plenty of seafood. I look forward to trying some of the other dishes. I only took off one star because I think they can improve the ambience, it feels a bit sterile right now. I hope they add some more photos or something to the walls to make it more inviting. I also suggest putting in a step-stool in the bathrooms to make it more family friendly. This place was such a disappointment. I get that they are still pretty new but that doesn't excuse it. First off, service is seriously appalling. They are so severely and blatantly understaffed - especially for a weekend night. The servers on the floor were running around frantically so I don't blame them but it made for an uncomfortable dining experience. Nothing like waiting 10 minutes for utensils and napkins. I am so glad we dined here. They do have outdoor sitting, which was quaint. We ordered our favorite soft tofu and kalbi. The food came out very quickly. We started off with the side dishes. I really enjoyed the greens, bean sprouts, radish and the quail. The soft tofu arrived simmering and had plenty of ingredients. Good thing we didn't get the kimchi tofu soup because their kimchi is in the slight sour end which would make our tofu a little bit sour than how I would like. Also, we got beef soft tofu but the broth was a little bit fishy or shrimpy for my taste. I like mine just beefy taste not shrimpy. But if you like it like that then that's good too. The Kalbi was plenty for my cousin and I. Next time I will ask them to grill it longer because it was kind of like medium done. I like mine really cooked. It was tender just the way I like it. Not rubbery. I also like the fact that they also give lecture to wrap. I had to ask for dipping sauce though. So make sure to get your dipping sauce. At the end, they give us yakult. I am half-Korean and grew up eating good, homemade Korean food cooked by my mother, so I am always excited to try a new spot. While it's great to see another Korean BBQ spot in the area, and the food / service overall at Hancook is good, there are a couple of glaring issues that I have with this place. First, the negatives, the primary one being the cost. I had the Kalbi (beef short rib) combo with Kim chi soup, and while it was good and plentiful, at a $36 price point, I felt it is too costly for what you get. The person I was with had a regular bulgogi dish, and it was not BBQ'd - almost like it was boiled or cooked in a sauce pan. Despite that, it was still pretty good tasting. The ban chan (side dishes) are adequate, but nothing to write home about. Low quality soju is $12 a bottle here - something that would cost a few bucks down the street at the K&P Koreana Market. The positives? We split the 8 piece fried chicken (soy garlic and sweet and spicy) which was very good. There's K-Pop videos playing on the TVs which is fun. The place is good for groups (not so good for a date). Bottom line: if you're looking for decent BBQ that you don't have to cook, that is pricy and new, they're worth checking out, but if you're looking for a better, more authentic experience for Korean BBQ, there are better options. read more

I let the server know it was my first time and he explained everything to me and my group and gave us plenty of time to look over the AYCE menu. We ended up going with the Tonkatsu and Chicken and Garlic Broths and they were delicious! The meats tasted really good and were pretty high quality, the vegetables were very good and fresh and the appetizer options for the AYCE menu were very good! We had a party of 4 for a weekend AYCE, and the Total with Tip was about 220$ without ordering the endless drinks. Don't let the price of the menu scare you this place is 100% worth being checked out. The only issue that we ran into was the parking situation, we ended up parking a block away down a residential street because they don't have their own parking lot and we weren't sure if the parking lots for the other restaurants were shared with this one.
