I really appreciated their opening EARLY! I was passing the area and skipped breakfast, so I was going to wait for Korean tofu stew next door, but when I saw Happy Kitchen's doors open 30 min before their normal hours to open, I got a teaser of their food via photos on their windows.. Got a head start on lunch so I could return to work ahead of schedule. I really appreciate this kind of attention to their customers. GREAT service overall & Chinese food that reminded me of my friends' mom's home cooking. Sooooo flavorful and not too salty/ greasy.. I ordered their appetizer pan fried dumplings, the steamed soup dumplings, and their sausage/shrimp combo fried rice i I felt like their portions were veey generous too. Their pan fried dumplings even kept for a night time snack later since I had ordered in excess at lunch. Thoroughly enjoyed this impromptu lunch and it will be my go-to for Chinese for most future visits to this area DEFINITELY! The restaurant is somewhat casual and can easily be packed and busy, but on this visit I enjoyed being the only customer for dining comfort. As I left, just as their usual business hours began, a growing traffic began of what seemed like their regulars that dine there. I can't wait to return to try some more items on their menu! This place is next to Youngdong and even though I've been the Youngdong so many times, I never considered eating at Happy Kitchen. I think it's because the name makes me think it'll have Panda style food. But it's nothing like it. We ordered three things - string beans, chow mein, and beef noodle soup. String beans - very good flavor, medium sized portion. The vegetable itself was old and not very fresh, but I was able to bypass that because it's fried anyways and the flavor was good. Chow Mein - This was hubby's selection. It was good, flavorful. It looked like it was home made in my very own happy kitchen. I liked the noodles. Beef noodle soup - flavor was not 100% there. Beef was sliced very very thin. Noodles were good. This was my least favorite dish. I do have to mention that there's a lot of MSG in the dishes here. I guess the place just opened because it's right next door to one of my favorite local Korean eatery..The place itself is small but it's cute and comfortable..They had a great selection of different foods to choose from.. It's a very comfortable atmosphere. Literally. Some of the wall seating includes PILLOWS!!! Very friendly staff. Willing to accommodate large parties. I like how they left our table its very own water pitcher. They use plastic cups (very kid friendly). The food is good. My family is EXTREMELY picky about Chinese food. I'm glad I found Happy Kitchen because the food is really good! So good in fact, that I came twice during a one week span. Everything I've had has been awesome, but my favorite is the popcorn chicken rice (and it's less than $6!!). A lot of people raved about the meat pie which was basically a green onion pie stuffed with dumpling meat. I'm sure it was bad for you, but it was sooo good with vinegar. I'm a total noodle junkie, so I can't complain about the noodles either! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the service can be slow. At both lunch and dinner time, the food took a while to come out, I think because the kitchen if filling a ton of to go orders. I ordered the J10 fried rice.... and they use the regular sausage instead of the Asian sausage. I had this in many places and this place is the worst. Not only they don't use the right sausage but it also has no taste. I also ordered 4x lamb stick. It didn't come at all. At the end when I call for my check. I noticed this place had opened next to my other favorite local Korean tofu bbq restaurant. We were feeling adventurous for something different and decided to check out Happy Kitchen for a change. So glad we did. This place serves decent authentic Chinese food and the best part about it is,....its near home! No more having to drive to Rowland Heights for real Chinese anymore. Their food is so good, but how rude they are completely killed it. We did not have a good experience here during dinner service so we tipped less than the 15%. After we were walking to our car the waiter came running out and stopped us because of the amount of tips we left. We ordered the spicy shrimp, but the kitchen made the wrong dish as sweet walnut shrimp. The waitress asked us if we were okay with this dish because it was the same price. We said that we still would like to try the spicy shrimp. She took the dish away and after couple minutes, she came back with the spicy shrimp. We found out the kitchen didn't make the new dish for us, they just use the same sweet walnut shrimp and add additional sauce on it and called it a spicy shrimp. Basil chicken with no MSG, the waitress walked out with 2 of the same dish and I asked if she was certain the one she gave to me was the one with no MSG, she said yes, but I was afraid to try more than a couple bites with fear of getting ill. Super quaint little restaurant. Stumble upon this place by accident when the wait at Young Dong's was too long. They have a large extensive menu which can cater to all types of palettes, ranging from authentic chinese food, to popcorn chicken, to 2 for $3 boba! Not the greatest boba but it will do for the price. Anyway, I enjoyed the food. The price was very fair too. The hot and sour soup took a while to come when it should be one of the first dish to arrive, but it was good. Also had the lamb skewers, a bean curd cold dish, and the popcorn chicken. Happy Kitchen makes happy bellies!! I start coming here when they first opened about 4 years ago when I lived in this area. I moved out 3 years ago and I came back this past Sunday since then and I was happy to see that the taste, quality and workers had not changed. My go to dish is the Green Beans w/Ground Pork. The green beans are deep fired without any breading and then pan fried with the ground pork, caramelizing the green beans but still leaving the snap/crunch inside. Just perfection! The Green Onion Pancakes are great too, very nice flavor. The noddle soups are all great. The broths are hot and flavorful and the noodles are fresh not from dry pasta. But please eat here and avoid the Frozen prefab salty fake crap that PFCHANG serves or the overly sauced sweet gunk of Pickup/Panda, and try traditional REAL CHINESE FOOD. We ordered vegetarian dishes (didn't really mean to but it ended up being all vegetables). Basil Eggplant and mapo tofu. I am a huge fan of mapo tofu - and this place's mapo tofu was not anything special. I tasted the red pepper oil - and it was flavorful but nothing to write about...the basil eggplant was FANTASTIC!!!!! Basil, garlic, and eggplant - very simple, and yet oddly addicting. Service was great - very friendly and attentive. My friend is a regular here so they paid very close attention to us. We went around 6 but by the time we left the restaurant was BUSY (and it was a wed night!!!) and PACKED. In the hour we were at the restaurant, i saw at least 5 people coming in to pick up their food - so i guess this place is a popular place in chino hills! read more

Decided to check this out after trying the korean place next door. I like the decor and the customer service is superb. When I told the waitress that one of the dishes was too salty. The manager came out and told me that they will cook a new dish. Other than that particular fried beef dish, the vegetable dish was great! It makes up for the beef dish. Very nice lady and didn't hover over our table since we were the only ones there at the time (later a few families started to float in). This used to be my favorite stop at chino hills, however the portion of the food has gone smaller and they raised the price a little bit. I felt cheated by happy kitchen a bit. I ordered basil chicken, stinky tofu and bamboo pork. The size of the stinky tofu was pure sadness, each piece of the tofu was like quarter size. And the basil chicken used to be more sweeter and a bit more basil also. Last but not least the bamboo pork haha. The dish was filled with 80-85 percent of bamboos. Where did the pork went? Dear happy kitchen, I understood this is a business and the goal is to make money, however reducing portion of the dish and the meat is a bit too much. Even my Japanese wife notice the difference and she just started to eat Taiwanese food not too long ago.... I will try happy kitchen again few months later, if no changes then it's time to say goodbye. read more

Better than average Chinese food, but not the very best in Chino Hills. We came in for the lunch specials. I had Kung Po Beef. It was good. I would say that for $6.95 it was a bit on the smaller side. It should either be $5.96 or give a bit more of the main entree. Happy Kitchen is located across town from me I would go back, but there are a few places I like a little better that is in the same area. Happy Kitchen needs to work a little bit harder to have that one thing that brings people in. The problem isn't with the restaurant but it has so much other high quality competition in the area. Coming from China town, MPK, Alhambra, it is really hard to review this well esp since my last experience was an order of shrimp that was fried in pigs oil. Can you imagine that. All my dishes smelt like pork. Dirty Oil=Dirty Stinky dishes. I almost barfed with each bit e I could not return. I am sure oil changed by now but at same time the fact dirty oil was used is a sign of carelessness, and disregard for quality. This is a great local spot for chinese food. Please note, they have HUGE portions especially their seafood noodle soup and any of their noodles! I've been here twice and always leave with tons of left overs! I will admit that their food is a tad pricey but they have good portions.
