Soooo.......... the location is somewhat sketchy.....the building is well...class B "strip mally".... But the pastrami burger is BADASS! Like that girl you aren't sure about when you first meet her, but your friend tells you she is great? Then after a long date night you realize that you may have to marry her, because everything after that initial concern is freaking awesome? OK. You've read the reviews and o know all the east cost deli people are screaming that a true pastrami sandwich comes on the bread, not a French roll, that the meat isn't shaved thin and soaking in its juice but if you're from Cali and have had a Cali Style Pastrami, you'll feel right at home here. The pastrami reminds me of Johnnys or Capital burgers and is just loaded with meat and gooey goodness. I usually get the yellow peppers, fries and a cold Pepsi but occasionally, I'll get the pastrami burger as well. Haven is located about a mile east of central downtown Mesa. I love this place, my family and myself have been customers since they opened, they are good people and enjoy serving the community, I live in Tempe but I will drive there every time I crave those Pastrami's which is quite often because they make them just like my hometown California and when the owner said they had this business in California, that explained why I love them so much! Whether it's an Unknown Burger like from O'Kelleys on Guadalupe or this little gem. I definitely consider myself a burger connoisseur. This burger spot definitely gives off that neighborhood vibe like only good ol Mesa can provide. Walking in it's not glamorous but it's got that divey feel to it. The burger is cooked and seasoned well with nicely chopped lettuce which goes unnoticed but is key. Nice amount of fresh avocado on the burger and that thin bacon cooked well. Only thing that took me away from giving it 5 is because the Bun was falling apart...which I'm no expert but I would imagine the buns were a bit older? The only place in all of Arizona where you can order a real "Southern California-style Hot Pastrami sandwich. It comes stuffed full of pastrami with a smear of mustard and some kosher pickles slices. The Burgers are great too and you can't get better tasting French Fries. There are always construction workers, City of Mesa workers, Mesa and other Law Enforcement and Firemen who eat here all the time. That alone should tell you how great the food is. It's drive from my place in Chandler but I recently read something about their pastrami sandwich and since I was recently laid off I had time I decided to drive over and give it a try. Super awesome little hole in the wall in Mesa. First time here and I got the California burger with onion rings. The onion rings were a little bit greasy but that's what made them delicious. The burger was cooked perfectly and was super juicy. Good proportion of lettuce/tomato/onion/spread. Even better, the avocados on the burger were actually ripe- A lot of restaurants that serve avocados on their burgers serve them under ripe or when they're all mushy. The only downside is that the location is slightly small so during the lunch rush it gets a little crowded but that's one of the best things about hole in the wall's - there is a patio too if it's nice out and/or it's too loud for you. I don't live around the area but will definitely be back next time I'm on this side of town and craving a good burger. read more

The chili burger was amazing. Reminds me of Tommy burger in L.A. I've also eaten the BLT which was great when I'm looking for something not-so-heavy and still quite tasty. Carne asada burrito was was actually really good. The carne was juicy, wasn't dried out like most other places and the burrito itself is a pretty generous size. We ended up at this place a couple of weeks back because my fiance was craving a good burger from someplace we had not tried before. I saw the great reviews on Yelp and loved the idea of trying a popular local burger shop instead of a larger chain. Unfortunately this was not the experience that we'd hoped for. My fiance's burger was overlu-salted and rarer than he ordered. The fries were pretty generic like Ore-Idas. I ordered the chicken gyro and was even more disappointed. The meat was over-cooked and not seasoned well, dry meat but a sloppy amount of sauce. Very dull taste and I would not recommend this to anybody. The manager was nice, though. He asked about our meal and offered to make another burger to make up for it, but we declined. That seemed like their normal recipe and I am not sure why the second one would be tastier than the first. And if you are looking for a gyro, go a few blocks north and head to George's Gryros instead. read more

Kind of a small hole in the wall place in downtown Mesa. The burgers here are very good and very big! You definitely get your money's worth. The buns are thrown in the grill, giving them a slight crunch and the patty is great; I also had bacon in my burger and it was cooked amazingly. I ordered the Haven Melt fot takeout. It's an enormous sandwich on sourdough bread, with a hamburger patty, bacon, and more. I don't remember what all was on it, but it was delicious and filling. I had a side order of fried zucchini with ranch dressing which I thought was the best fried zucchini I had ever had. Their zucchini is in fried sticks instead of round slices. I like it that way. It was a huge meal for around $10. Next time I think I'll eat the zucchini and half of the sandwich, and save the other half for later. I will repeat this order, but I will also try some of the other sandwiches, too. read more
