I am disappointed today. I have been eating at Hawaii sushi since it opened. Last week I got the $6 special, salmon and hamachi sashimi over rice. I noticed spots on my salmon that looked cooked and hard. I got the same $6 special today and saw the same spots. The salmon and hamachi felt rough in my mouth so it must have been previously frozen. My guess is the spots on my salmon were either freeZer burn or the fish was sitting out too long. read more

I really enjoyed this place! The sushi was good and fresh, I liked the feel, and the staff was very friendly. No phone number which makes it hard to do take out, and very limited parking. I don't have pictures of the food because everything was take out and wasn't exactly picture worthy. I really wish that it was a bigger restaurant so I can sit in and eat it on a plate. The food: The fish was very fresh! I tried the Lave Tube Roll, Sunset Roll, chirashi bowl, uni nigiri, ahi nigiri, salmon nigiri, and hamachi nigiri. Yes I ordered quite a bit. Most of what they offer is made to order kind of in front of you. The nigiri was very good and fresh. Very simple, and very cheap, only about $3 for 2 pieces. The uni was awesome! Very creamy and fresh! It was on special $6 for 2 pieces. The original rolls were pretty good but Not the best. I liked that they didn't stuff it with imitation crab like how most original rolls go. The chirashi bowl was part of their daily specials that end at 2:00, lucky I decided to go there earlier and made it. This was my least favorite item and I would probably not order it again. It had diced up tamago, shiitake mushrooms, ebi, ahi poke, and ikura. It went from $11 to $6, but I would not pay more than $6 for it, and feel bad for anyone who did. We ordered the 2 piece hamachi, 2 piece salmon, spicy ahi roll, cucumber ume roll and the crunchy lava roll (?) and it came out to only $24. I was beyond shocked by how delicious the food was and how reasonable the prices are. This is a smaller place, located in the same plaza as health bar. There is a parking lot but depending on the time of day, it can get a bit busy. The service is lovely and they have take out options. This place is one of the best place for affordable and delicious sushi! I order the lava tube (I highly recommend it), all of which tasted great every time. Their prices can range from $3-~15 which is rare and great for the customer. Ever since COVID, I've seen the safety protocols they placed and I feel safe ordering from them. I was standing in the line and the cashier (male) saw someone that seemed to be his friend in the line behind me and let the person cut in front of me when I was waiting for awhile. Ahi is delicious here. Melts in the mouth and doesn't taste fishy. I was excited they had Hamachi but it was a bit too fishy for my taste here. Their ahi avocado bowl is my new favorite! The atmosphere is very casual and nice. The service is friendly. There's no waiter service. You order at the counter and chose any table you want, but they do bring the food out to you. There's not much seating available inside but there are a few tables outside - the place is tiny. You can also grab pre-made bentos and go. They also take cards. This is by far the best kept secret on the island. Normally you get bent over for the price of sushi but at this place there's rolls from 3 to 8$ and even ones as cheap as 1.50. The most recommended dish is the spicy avocado ahi bowl and it's absolutely amazing. The sashimi bowl is delicious and so too is the lava crunch roll. I am going to start by saying this poke bowl was good!! Not the best I've ever had but it was good. 4 stars 2 stars for the price. I got the daily special (Tuesday's is spicy ahi) and everyday there is one bowl that is $6.00. That is a steal for the price 1 star for the softness of their ahi. I honestly have never had such tender and almost whipped ahi. 1 star for the service. Although the daily bowl is just a grab and go kinda operation, the staff working there(I believe are the owners) are friendly and extremely attentive. So after all that why only 4 stars, well the flavor or the ahi was good but it was so soft it kinda just mushed into the rice. I would have loved some sliced cucumbers or onion in there to contrast the textures. The aioli was also good but I did have to use all the wasabi and soy sauce given to get it to my desired spiciness(but I like things super spicy).
