The lounge is beautiful and overs a great selection of delicious drinks, and tasty food. There was no host or signage when we arrived to check in or when we returned to be seated and there was some confusion by many who were in a line what that line was actually for (apparently to-go orders only). I don't think we should be hunting for a host or employee for answers. The food was fine but I wouldn't say worth $100 for what we got. The food could've been hotter and the space itself was chilly. Decided to try this Lounge on one of our Disney trips. We decided to stick to an appetizer, drinks and a dessert. We ordered the cheese board, a Blackberry Bamble, and The First order, Cookie Butter Creme Brûlée and Apple Tart. All the food was really good. The drinks were not the best. The blackberry had very little flavor and the First order had a very prominent spice that made it really over powering. The cheese board and desserts however were very tasty. All the board selections were delicious and complemented each other well. The Creme brûlée was just sweet enough and the apple tart came with ice cream that made it even better. Service was great. We walked around downtown Disney after we first checked in to our room that night and it was of course flooded with people and crazy lines so we headed back to the hotel We snagged a seat at the bar while we waited for a table and the wait time was spot on which we appreciated. The bar was busy but attentive! Drinks were nice and strong unlike the park! The food was yummy and to our satisfaction! Our server was super sweet as well! We ended up having a 4 hour dinner date night for our anniversary! We are pleased we stayed at the hotel and ate here! Terrible terrible interaction with a waiter on our last visit (Friday 10/21). To clarify, it is *open*seating* per the bartender who served us the one drink that we ordered. We sat at a two person table toward the back, the restaurant was about 1/2 full of people sitting at the tables and bar, the remaining tables were either unbussed (there were at least 6) or open tables. As soon as we sat down a male waiter came over to ask if we needed anything else, I said "no we're doing okay but are there checkers pieces?" As the table we were sitting at had a checkers board on it. He hesitated, looked at a bookshelf where they clearly had checkers pieces, and stumbled with his words. "Uh yeah but is this the only drink you'll be having? We try to keep the tables for guests enjoying more than one drink," I said "I'm sorry we were informed that this was open seating," stumbling again he hesitated "it is, but if you're just having one drink..." something about sitting at the bar and how the bartenders don't respect the waiters tables??? Long story short, he asked us to move so that someone else could have our table, order from him and tip him. There was plenty of open seating, there were plenty of open tables, tons of tables that were unbussed, it just seemed completely unnecessary and rude. He was basically saying that the bartenders don't respect the waitstaff who wait tables and take their tips - none of which is anything that we as guests at the lounge or the Disneyland resort should be felt to be in the middle of. It was one of the worst interactions with a waiter I have ever had, and it being at The Grand Californian of all places had me in disbelief. I liked this bar, but this staff members needs to be retrained in customer service. read more

After a long day at Disney, we just sat to relax at the lobby of the Grand Caifornian Hotel and we noticed the menu (of the Hearthstone Lounge) on the table. So, eventhough we were full since we were craving to have some sweets/desserts we decided to give this place a try. However, when a Hearthstone waiter passed by the hotel lobby to collect the menus placed on top of the hotel lobby tables, he told us that Hearthstone lounge is already closed. But I felt like he was lying since when we passed by Hearthstone lounge, a lot of customers were still lining up to get in. So, my hubby and I decided to go straight to Hearhstone lounge and check it for ourselves, and lo and behold!!!- it is still open. So, the waiter at the lobby lied!!! We were informed by the bartender that they close around 1 AM. So, we just were unpleaseantly surprised that the other waiter making rounds in the hotel lobby said they were closed. So as not to ruin the good vibe, we just let that incident slide. Good thing, we still gave this place a try since the desserts were great. Loved the cheesecake and chocolate cakes, plus the plating! However, when we checked the bill, we were double billed so we brought it to the attention of the waitress. Great desserts, however, I agree with other reviewers saying that customer service is not good. People come to restaurants not solely for food but for good customer service as well. Food was cold (chicken wings and prime rib). The seabass was overcooked (very dry and served cold). The carrots ordered as a side were so hard I could barely cut them with a knife. They were nice enough not to charge us for the meal since we sent it all back. The manager talked with us and gave my gal a cupcake. Unfortunately she is allergic to gluten (know your customer). We let them know at the beginning of the order of the allergy. Cupcake was not gluten-free. Not the best experience for lunch. I was expecting more from a hotel with extravagant prices. We used to love this place. Went recently and both service and food has gone downhill. Our server never checked on us and we had asked her to order our dessert with the food. She forgot. We ordered the chicken sandwich- we usually like these. They were not chicken breast. Like back or thigh meat and much much smaller in size. Fries were cold. Our drinks stayed empty - no server in sight. We had to find her to get the check and learned she forgot about our desserts. For the price it isn't worth it. Hearthstone Lounge is definitely a Grand California/CA Adventure hidden treasure. Just down the walkway from their little market store is the very warm bar area that can be truly hopping at dinner time. They were able to accommodate a party of 9 one Saturday night when it was literally hailing and pouring outside, making our plan for dining at Pym's a total no-go. We were cold, wet and in need of a respite. Hearthstone Lounge didn't disappoint. I ordered a lovely Old Fashioned while perusing the menu and was pleased to see that the menu was more than just a typical tiny bar menu. We got a Charcuterie Pizza which was a very meat-forward pizza as well as a Cobb Salad. This fed me, my better half and our little guy, no problem, and it was actually very good. In fact, while I think the pizza we got is probably the same as what they carry at Craftsman, I was more impressed with the execution on my pizza here and the salad was way better than the salmon salad that I usually get at the other place. Since it was a birthday, they actually brought out 2 little cupcakes which was a totally nice touch. All in all, I was way more pleased with my meal, the experience of sitting in the warmth of Hearthstone Lounge and oh, did I mention that they had live music? Note, since the party was larger, they added in the gratuity...I'm totally fine with this but we did have a moment of perplexity where we were confused on why this was SO incredibly expensive as opposed to the "very expensive" that we were expecting. The drinks are good, but the service here is lacking for the cost. My husband and some friends and I came here the other night after an event. Of course since it is a Disney resort, we knew the drinks would cost a bit more than average. That was fine. But you would think paying a high penny would also include food service. We first ordered from the "to-go" line so we could enjoy while we sat in the lobby since the bar was full. There were two bartenders, but they were very slow at serving those waiting in line. They prepared mine and my husbands drinks in glass cups, but our friends were in plastic. After finishing our drinks, we decided to move into the bar. We were seated quickly at a table. There was about 30 minutes until last call. Our waitress came to us after about 10 minutes of being seated there. While we waited for drinks, a waiter staff came and took the batteries out of the lights on our table. This made us feel like we were being kicked out. They didn't do this to other guests still seated. After about 15 minutes our server came back with our drinks. The drinks are crafted well, and presented nicely when served in a glass. Both times I ordered a meadow punch. The second drink, did not have the pretty flower in it, which made me sad. Overall, it's a nice and cozy ambience (until they take your lamp batteries), but the service is not what it should be for a Disney resort. read more

Man, what a disappointing experience. I want to mention up front that dining here does not allow you to park at the hotel; instead, they make you pay to park at Downtown Disney. This came as a surprise considering WDW provides complimentary parking when dining at their resorts. This automatically made what was a mediocre meal more expensive. The food was pretty "meh" -- at least, the food that we ordered that was *actually brought to our table* was pretty "meh". The service, as you may have guessed, was terrible. We were largely ignored, despite it not being terribly busy. We placed our drink and appetizer order and when drinks were delivered we placed our entree order. We then waited what seemed like an eternity for the appetizer we ordered. Had the server come to check on us at any point we would have inquired, but he didn't. Instead, we eventually got our entrees delivered... No app still. The burger & fries were luke warm as if they had been sitting around for a while; the lasagna was okay, but the cheese was kind of gelatinous which also means it was probably sitting, waiting to be delivered, for a while. The waiter came over to ask how it was and I asked if this meant he hadn't rung up our appetizer order. He apologized and said it had slipped his mind. This was a bummer since we actually wanted the appetizer more than our main courses. He said they'd comp a dessert, which was a fine solution (though I didn't really want a dessert). A few minutes later he awkwardly brought a young hostess over to our table and tried to (jokingly) blame her for distracting him -- so he's bad at his job and a bit of a creep. He asked which dessert we wanted comped and I asked if I could get the dessert to-go since we were driving back to Los Angeles after dinner; he said that was fine. Since he hadn't brought us a menu we asked for a description. I went with what was described as a strawberry tart and the waiter boxed it up and we went on our way. We got to our hotel room a couple hours later and I pulled out the dessert. Comically, there was a paper ramiken filled with melted vanilla ice cream. Not a problem, but not something he had mentioned and maybe something he should have when we told him we needed it to-go. Anyhow, it gave us a good laugh. Anyhow, I worked at WDW for nearly a decade, including as a server at an in-park restaurant. I say all this simply to point out how far the Disney brand has slipped. It's a bummer. read more

even though we had a reservation, it took 35 minutes to get seated then it took one hour to get our food. there were 5 of us but they would not seat us together so we were separated. the other 3 of our party had to wait 2 hours to get their food. there was a constant stream of servers saying how sorry, how about just cooking the *** food. my husband and i were there for over 2 hours, the other 3 of our party were there for over 3 hours. we were comped for our entrees not the wine. we will never go near this terrible place again.the food was good when we finally got it. not worth waiting over 1 hour. read more

She had fully walked away and rolling her eyes at me while we were unsure if we had completely paid or not. As we were walking out, she rudely stopped us to sign the bill... Which is fine, however, we were unsure because she was completely uncommunicative while we were exiting. Came by with friends recently for some afternoon drinks & snacks and the experience was admittedly just decent. Perhaps the staffing was short, but our server's timeliness was lacking. Drinks like their Aviation and Rhum Whiskey Sling were very well executed, I especially liked the latter's harmony between the spirits' potency and sweetness of the honey and juices. Among the dishes, I wasn't impressed with the anemic citrus-habanero chicken wings, poutine, or chicken fingers. Thankfully, the pizzas were consistent with Craftsman Bar. The ambiance, drinks, and food are great.. HOWEVER, our experience here started off great and then slowly got worse & worse. Firstly, we were mandatorily evacuated from LA because of the fires, we were in Orange for multiple days and wanted to stop in somewhere to take our minds off the fact that we didn't know if we'd have a home to come back to, so we took advantage of being close to the park and hoped with could lighten the mood. We started off with 3 drinks ($20 each), got the bill for $60, I asked them to close the tab and open another one (we had a party of 4 and someone else was going to pay for the next round) The bartender (Jessica) gives me the bill, I give her my card, our party orders more drinks, and I never get my card back. I didn't think much of it as we were going to be there for a little. We order 3 more drinks ( 2 of the same @ $20, and one new one @ 18.75). So we are at 6 drinks total of which SHOULD be a total of $118.75; (5 @ 20 + 1 @ 18.75) + Tax. About another hour and a half goes by and another member of our party makes a separate order. Jessica hands me a new receipt, circling the amount in a mickey mouse style, saying this is now the running total ($160.28 - which mind you DOESN'T correctly reflect the amount that the first $60 did because now the drinks are $25 each ( 5 @ 25 + 1 @ 18.75 = 143.75 + tax = 160.28) and that my card has been continuously ran. Okay.... not the end of the world BUT I told you to run my card after the first bill AND why are the drinks reran at a higher amount? Anyhow, one of our party members hands me a $100 bill to put towards the amount, so we hand her back the card with the $100 in the billfold. She never asks if we want the $100 broken, applied toward the bill, if it's a tip, NOTHING. I'm expecting to quickly get a receipt back showing what was ran... nothing. Next thing you know, Jessica is clocking out, counting tips, and hasn't said anything to us for over 30 minutes, almost as if she was hoping, assuming, or just trying to run out because we had left $100 I guess her hoping it was all a tip not sure if she thought we were under the influence and wouldn't notice or what. This came off as SUPER unprofessional and sketchy at the time. If we did happen to leave you $100 for a $160 (should've been $130) bill, you'd ATLEAST assume you'd thank your customers/ guests for the generous tip. Nope, nothing, once we handed her the card and cash, we didn't hear from her the rest of our time there. So when I ask for the receipt and if I could get the bill back so I could leave a tip, she then got flustered and admitted to thinking we just left a generous tip (who gives a 100 on a 160 bill and doesnt ask if you want change? bar/ server 101.) Now, she's digging through the trash and pulls my bill out of the GARBAGE, has to get a manager to retroact everything and now I have double charges + $160 I shouldn't have been charged taken from my account and had to wait 5 days to get back during a crisis to where we almost lost everything. Like I said, the place is beautiful and other than that, the hospitality was good, but tbh, this was the absolute LAST thing that we needed regarding the circumstances. Not only do we evacuate everything in our home, we had to get overnight accommodations for our pet, us, and the last thing we wanted to worry about is a bartender/ establishment potentially trying to take advantage of us. It just left a horrible taste in our mouth and was that absolute worse timing to go through something like this when all we wanted to do was try to relax from everything. Please do better. read more

Came today for a birthday celebration. It was good but nothing amazing. Our server was just ok, kinda barely saw her and took awhile to even just refill my drink but she wasn't a bad waiter overall.
