Updated to 5 stars (see further below). With the large amount of Japanese restaurants in the area, it's difficult to differentiate which is good for what. For me, Hello Temaki is the place to go for Hand Rolls and adding the usuals to make a complete meal. Update: recently tried the 3 set premium hand roll including Snowcrab, fresh Hokkaido Scallop (not frozen), and Bluefin Toro and it was one of the best sushi I've had in the Sacramento area. Upon entering, we were quickly greeted and sat down. My go to is the 5 set Hand Roll and add Udon, Hamachi Kama, appetizers, or additional hand rolls like the soft shell crab. The 5 set hand roll includes Salmon, Spicy Tuna, Yuzu Negihama, Tsubugai, and Escolar. They have traditional Genmaicha Tea which I always order with my meal. I appreciate the use of plastic around the seaweed to maintain the crispiness of the seaweed. The seafood taste fresh and the perfect size cut for sushi. There's a few muted TVs in the room with slow chill music to easily allow hearing conversations at the table. The waitress kept checking up on us and we were easily able to add more orders as we gauged our hunger level.

Went here for lunch, and it was a good experience, we were greeted right away, and it was a really cool space. Love the architecture and how the bar in the middle looked sooo LA. the wood, everything was just so pleasing to see. We ordered a couple of things for a quick lunch and 1 item from the happy hour menu. Everything is great. I think the happy hour item is small for the price but it was good! The seaweed was wrapped in plastic so its clean BUT, it made the rice fall off on the sides, but other than that, the food tasted amazing!!

Hubby and I had a delicious lunch at Hello Temaki. It was a bit unusual for us to have handrolls since our goto is Chirashi (sashimi over sushi rice). Service was friendly and attentive. The handrolls were fresh and tasty. The deep fried oysters and green beans were really good, too. The ambiance is warm and inviting. Lots of parking since they're located in a shopping center on Laguna Springs.

Have been wanting to try this place for a while from all the great reviews on Yelp and Google, maybe it was an off day, but wish I could have rated the same. Came in on a weekend for HHR lunch, New Year weekend with 5 other tables already sat. There was only 1 server that did all the bussing and food running. I really hope that she got ALL the tips and didn't have to share ANY of it. Although service wasn't great, because it was not her fault having to do 3 peoples job, this was poorly ran. Where was management? Why were they not helping her? There were enough chefs that were just food prepping and having conversations that could have helped her, but instead I saw them give her attitude when she asked them questions. Poor lady was flustered doing everything on her own. 1 star for poor management. Food: HHR Fried green beans- large portion and delicious. The best item we ordered. Kids meal- rice, meat, apples and panda cookies for $13. We chose the kids ribeye- it was tender and juicy. HHR Fusion pepperfin- really weird tasting dish. 5 pcs. It was some type of red sauce that made it weird. HHR bbq albacore 3 pcs- $7. The tuna had two big pieces of connective tissue. Pictured in a post of the dish I posted. It should not have that in there, any good chef should be able to pull that out if they are cutting the albacore fresh, unless it's frozen blocks they are purchasing. HHR mushroom tempura HR- $5- pretty, but lacking flavor. Salmon to Love roll -$18- below sub par- lacking flavor. Disappointed with the food to say the least. The server was trying her very best, very apologetic and nice.

My boyfriend and I came in on dec 26 around lunch time. There wasn't a wait time and not a lot of people were in yet. We were immediately greeted and seated. We both ordered the 3 handroll premium set! It's a bit pricey but honestly with the amount of fish/seafood on there, it was worth! They didn't have the hokkaido scallops but it was easily replaced by the spicy scallops. Our server was apologetic about the scallops and comped us with some sauces (originally $3/sauce). We also ordered the toro and uni handroll. Everything was super good and buttery! I would come back again! They also have happy hour every day which is great!

We came here and found out this place is sold and will be closing. Not sure when the new owner is going to open. It's too bad Hello Temaki are shutting their doors for good. I really like the place.

Lady in Red Roll - $17

Came here on a Friday night with my boyfriend because we were craving sushi. We wanted to sit at the bar, and luckily a couple of seats opened up right as we arrived. Just a heads up--since they offer omakase, I believe bar seating is prioritized for those guests, so spots can be limited. For starters, we ordered the deep-fried oysters ($13). They tasted fresh, and the breading was perfectly crispy. For our mains, my boyfriend got the Lady in Red roll ($17) while I ordered the three-set hand roll for $22. My boyfriend loved the Lady in Red roll--he said it was one of the best rolls he's ever had, and considering how many sushi places we visit (just look through my reviews), that says a lot. I tried it too, and I agree: the combination of ingredients was spot-on. My hand roll set came with salmon, spicy tuna, and yuzu negihama. They serve each roll one at a time, so everything is freshly made. Out of the three, the salmon was my favorite--probably because I naturally prefer salmon--but the yuzu negihama was excellent as well. As for the ambiance, I loved the minimal, clean aesthetic. The space is essentially one large open room, and it feels modern and inviting. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place to friends and would happily come back.

I get why they're closing. The food is extremely pricey for portion. My friend ordered the Bluefin Toro HR and it was $20. Not in this economy.

I'm so happy Elk Grove finally has its very own hand roll bar! I came here when they first opened and have been back several times since. They offer a great variety of hand rolls, sushi rolls, and several non-roll dishes, so there's something for everyone. What I recommend: If you're not sure what to get, start with the 3 or 5 piece hand roll set. It's a great way to sample a few options and decide if you want to order more. Honestly, the portion size is already pretty satisfying for the price. You can always add on as you go! Some of our favorites beyond what's already included in the set are: Spicy Hokaaido Scallop, Ocean Trout, Blue Aged Toro & Uni hand rolls, Sashimi selections, Hokkaido Uni Toast, Uni Pasta, and the Chicken Skewers -- the chimichurri sauce on those is incredibly flavorful. Every hand roll and dish we've tried has been excellent -- fresh, high quality, and perfectly balanced in flavor. The dishes aren't overly heavy either, so you can enjoy a good amount without feeling stuffed... just be prepared when the bill comes! It's definitely worth every bite, but it can add up quickly. They're also able to accommodate large parties with a separate private dining area -- just make sure to call ahead for a reservation. We got lucky snagging a spot for our group when we called last minute. The only small downside (just a personal preference) is having to unwrap the seaweed from the plastic film before eating. I understand it's meant to keep the seaweed crisp and fresh, but it can feel a bit inconvenient. Overall, this spot is a fantastic addition to Elk Grove's dining scene -- fresh, flavorful, and a great experience every time!

Mmmm, got the 3 Set Hand Roll and Crunch Time House Sushi Rolls
    Pui-See Y.

Had a great time sharing the delicious and fresh sushi with my friend. It was a quiet Sunday night, so it was nice. We ordered 2 sets of the 3 hand roll (I called it taco sushi) and a Crunch time house roll to share. It was the perfect amount. The staff were attentive and respectful of us, since we talked more than we ate lol. We love the Japan adaption of the seaweed disposable wrappers for the handrolls. It's nice to know that the seaweed wont be soggy by the time you eat it. Love that you had a choice of 3 or 5 handrolls and all of them were different. I like the variety of trying different ones - Salmon, spicy tuna, and yuzu negihama. The house roll felt like there was a lot going on, but it truly wasn't. You can taste the freshness of the fish and it wasn't over powered by any sauce. It was good amount of food for us two, but would love to come back to try more!

The food was very good, it was simple and honestly, the hand rolls were hard to eat and not anything special but still seemed fresh and clean which i enjoyed. We got two orders of the 3 set hand rolls which are already selected for you, it's salmon, spicy tuna, and yuzu negihama. We also got the ocean trout hand roll and Uncle John Roll which was good and scallop shooters which I enjoyed but my boyfriend didn't like his. Our server seemed new but the other one who started to help out was very kind. The place was very clean and had a good ambiance. Overall, it was nice to finally try this place out! I may go again but probably order a lot less- we spent $100 not including tip.

Hello Temaki is 5 stars from top to bottom. The staff is amazing and friendly. They're greeting you the second you walk in. They offering recommendations If it's your first time in. They're just all over the experience and vibe. The food is a whole other level of amazing. Perfect hints of something here and there in each hand roll or even nigiri. Their selection of fish for anything is amazing. The lead chef is amazing and creative. We literally can't get enough Hello Temaki. Hello Tamaki is such a great find here in Elk Grove! Found this place from social media and ended up going during happy hour and must I say it's very much worth it! Was able to try so many dishes off the happy hour menu at almost half the original price while also trying some of the regular menu items. Our favorites were the uni cream pasta, seared salmon hand roll, unagi hand roll, and fried garlic string beans. The service was also amazing and the workers were very kind! Would definitely be back!

We started with the Ika Maruyaki (Teriyaki grilled squid) and for $28 this was a miss. No tentacles were served and the squid did not taste very fresh. It's really not worth the price point and I don't recommend it. The next appetizer was the toro roll and I think I need to order more sushi next time. The fish was incredibly fresh with a perfect amount of rice and high quality nori. I ordered the tempura udon - you really can't go wrong with the tempura here. The curry is so aromatic with the warm spices and the katsu is perfectly battered and cooked.

The tempura is perfectly crispy, but the rice was a little brittle and got dried really fast. The texture was more like Vietnamese broken rice, and it caught me off guard because when I tried their sushi a while ago, they used very high-quality rice. As is typical with sukiyaki, the broth becomes very flavorful at the end, absorbing all the flavors from high-quality ingredients, but my udon got a little dry while waiting. Since I tried both set, the wagyu sukiyaki broth became a little too sweet at the end. My favorite is definitely the seafood sukiyaki broth. Would I try these pricy sukiyaki again? Probably not.
