Super easy parking, inviting little spot for a walk or just hanging out. The smoked salmon tartine was incredible, perfectly balanced. Their coffee game is strong too. Smooth, rich, exactly what you want on a lazy morning. And the pastries? Dangerous. Everything looks too good to say no to, and somehow everything is that good.

Fond memories of my childhood days when the Helms Bakery Trucks delivered fresh baked goods to your doorstep. Still remember the tasty donuts and sandwich bread. This was a great day, visiting the location of the bandit the first time, and once again enjoying a tasty breakfast of biscuits and gravy and a smoked salmon tartine and black coffee. Everything was delicious Dined alfresco under a warm, sunny California morning with fellow foodies. Great customer service, and a pleasant atmosphere.

OoooOo the hype is real! I saw this place was voted one of the best bakeries and that chocolate croissant i had sold me! I did not eat there but i definitely will next time! My fiancé brought me a chocolate croissant and a matcha latte! Wow a matcha that actually tasted like it supposed to! The color was a perfect green that alone told me it was perfect. The croissant was what really has me fiending to go in person. It was perfect airy and the chocolate wasn't too sweet. I've had chocolate croissants from other places and sometimes they are way too oily. This one was perfect! I'll come in person and take some photos of the place!

I love this bakery/store. So clean and so much variety. Love the workers - everyone is so helpful. My husband and I stopped over to take a look at what was available that day. Came out with a croissant loaf, a miffy keychain, socker bit gummies, and a birthday card. I know... so random.. but just proves the variety they offer. Stop by when you are on the westside and take a look for yourself. So fun!

Hours later, I was still thinking and talking about the Salmon Tartine from Helms. The salmon? Fresh. The bread? Crunchy and soft, at the same time! Every topping was well-balanced and somehow this tartine was ultimately decadent without being cloying. A new favorite L.A. dish of mine has been unlocked. I brought my corgi to dine with us and had no issue with him on Helms's ample patio!

I heard about this place being a revamped old school bakery and came to check out their breads and pastries. When I entered, thats when I realized it's just a mini alternate branded erewhon. There's only a small section tucked in the back that sold pastries and bread. I got a sourdough bread and a japanese egg custard pie. The japanese egg custard pie was unique but not my taste. The texture was super creamy but really all I tasted was saltiness and none of the egg flavor. The puff pastry was very flaky though. The sourdough bread has been pretty delicious. I've been toasting it in the morning and it still has a rich sourdough taste to it. Overall, kind of overhyped and expensive. At least the bread was good though!

For vibes alone this place is pretty cool. Its a mini food hall essentially with cold drinks of a variety in one section, ready to go meals on the next, a small variety of american food in another, a bakery on the other side and a cafe for last, with retail all in the middle. It really is the epitome of "there's something for everyone" here...even if most things are a little on the pricey side. I only got a snack but things range here from $4 onigiri to $11 matcha tiramisu to $20 half chicken plate combo. I definitely think if you're in the area its more like a why not stop here, even if you don't buy anything it is a cool concept just to scope out. And at least you can use the bathroom! There's a fair amount of outdoor seating but it can get super crowded on the weekends so be on the lookout for a table maybe upon arrival. There's parking! Otherwise I'd go back if I was craving something while walking around the area. I'd be interested to try out one of their staples

It's really a 3.5! This place has great desserts! The toffee donut and the lemon meringue were our favorites! The thing that wasn't good was their coffee! They have salted maple syrup on tap which sounds cool but didn't taste grand? And it was very watery. Wouldn't get that again. But the desserts were good and we liked the pistachio olive oil cake too! So if you go, pastries are the win! But it was also fun just to check out all the little things in the store! Definitely a cute place!

Olive oil cake with pistachio buttercream Royal Latte

After 50+ years closing its doors and merely being a landmark, Helms finally made a comeback, reopening its bakery. Not surprising, it's attracted huge crowds as people have been looking forward to it. I remembered the early opening days when I could even see long lines of cars trying to enter especially on weekends. Waiting for the hype to go down a bit, I finally paid a visit pretty recently. I was really in love with the contemporary industrial concept it brought out, putting both the bakery and the grocery store into a combined space, with cozy outdoor patio to dine in. They offered breakfast and brunch menu beyond obviously bread, pastries, and cakes. Specialty coffee and tea were also carried by the cafe to pair with the food. My choice ended up on their Olive Oil Cake as it's said to be one of their favorites. Served with pistachio buttercream, I wasn't that impressed as the cake was tad dry and the pistachio flavor in the buttercream was not standing out either. As for the drink, I tried their version of latte featuring earl grey, called as Royal Latte. Just another OK one, and IMO for some reason I felt the two weren't like well blended in this particular version. It's kinda surprising as I was usually a fan of earl grey infused coffee. Fortunately I was patient enough to not fight to be the first ones to try and spending time waiting in long lines within their early opening days as I had to say I didn't find myself thrilled by my first visit. Prolly in other chance I could try something else!

the royal latte is a seasonal drink they have- its essentially earl grey flavor and its delicious!!!! not too sweet either. coming back just for that. my friend and I both tried a pastry and they were both kinda dense. not rlly my thing but the drinks and set up are awesome!

i have visited helms bakery a handful of times, and i always make a point to order their pistachio semolina cookie when it's available. it's thin and semi-crisp but chewy. best of all, it's a super satisfying combination of sweet, salty, and nutty. hopefully, i can eat it once more before the bakery closes on 12/14/2025. :( besides pastries and cakes, the bakery also offers drinks, hot foods, specialty ingredients, and eclectic goods produced by local small businesses. on one of my visits, i was able to purchase a pint of 626 ice cream. perhaps because everything is crafted with care, prices lean higher. since it is located in the helms design district, there is indoor and outdoor seating as well as free parking galore.

The cookie butter latte was okay and the parking is excellent. The food smelled good. This would be a frequent haunt if I was local.

A great new addition to downtown Culver City! Helms Bakery has reopened and no longer is just a bakery in name, but actually houses a bakery. Now, it's an upscale food hall and lunch spot with lots of different food offerings, goods to buy, and coffee. I got a mortadella sandwich, a slice of cake and a chocolate chip pistachio cookie and everything was delcious! Hope to go back and try more stuff soon.

Any plans on installing sun shades over the dining patio? It's brutal out there.

Hello Albert, We’ve recently added large umbrellas to the patio to help provide more shade and make things more comfortable out there.

Is there WiFi on the patio?

Last time I went, no wifi, I used my hotspot!

I’ve been multiple times and the Deli has never been open. Grab and go sandwiches were available but the Deli counter was not operating. Has it ever opened? I read about chicken pot pies and house made meats. Anyone been there when it was open?

According to the staff, they will be reopening that soon...after a few false starts.

What time are they open on weekends?

    CURRENT HOURS. 8 AM - 2 PM THURSDAY-SUNDAY

Is there seating to hang out and enjoy a coffee and a pastry?

Yes outside in the front is a seating section with tables

When is the bakery actual brick and mortar going to open?

    November 1, 2024.

It's relatively busy but the line moved swiftly. The Larchmont store was pretty lively with the crowded and colorful wall deco! It's pretty fun to see that they came up with more seasonal items lately and most of them nailed it well when they came to cookies. Previously the lemon one and the most recent was the Raspberry Pistachio which I was impressed by as I just fancied sweet and refreshing combo of white chocolate and raspberry. The pistachio added more texture to it for sure. Same as any Levain cookies, best enjoyed warm and fresh out of oven. The Cookie Milk Latte was actually the main reason bringing me here, yet I was bit let down by it as I was expecting more malty cookie flavor in the drink. I felt it tasted not much different to regular cream top latte with some cookie crumbles in it.

Delicious drinks and creative pastries!…read more Tried Fondry LA and the matcha vanilla pistachio drink was definitely the highlight--so delicious and perfectly sweet without needing any sweetness adjustment. Easily my favorite thing I tried! The tofu cream croissant toast was airy and light, with a creamy topping that wasn't overly sweet. The mushroom béchamel was savory and good. I only got it because my brother suggested it. Normally I would not seek mushroom pastries even though I like mushrooms. The yuzu meringue croiffin was good, but I am not used to tart flavors in croissant/pastry combination. The cafe is very tiny, with only one table for seating, so it's more of a grab-and-go spot. There are seats outside. I also wanted to try the black sesame pastry, but didn't see it available when I visited. I'd definitely go back to try it. The drink was the standout for me!

The key is to go on a weekday to avoid the line, as the weekend can definitely get busy. This last time I finally got to try the tofu cream topped croissant, which was ~to die for~. It was a little bit savory with the miso but still (not too) sweet. This felt super original and I would definitely recommend. I also tried the pistachio croissant and asparagus danish this time round and both were extremely good as well. I would have no qualms with re-ordering either. The only note is the pistachio cream is pretty runny, so it's hard to cut and share, as the cream just oozes out. The workers there are super friendly and kind. The drinks are also very good if you're looking to get a little extra treat as well.
