This is probably the worst breakfast spot that I have ever been to. The service was almost as poor as if I had had to serve myself while I was working with a broken leg. I had Sunday morning brunch at the Hen House and found it to be a delightful place to meet friends or family. The space is bright, colorful, warm, and inviting. The food was outstanding. We had the Kitchen Sink omelette, cinnamon roll, caramel roll, and bloody Mary's. I'm glad we avoided the weekender this trip as I might not have had room for breakfast. The weekender had olives, cheese, celery, hard boiled egg, sausage, etc. It looked awesome! I brought my girls home a s'mores bar and they are in love. Stop here for breakfast. Stop here for lunch. Stop here for drinks. Whatever your reason is, you'll want to give this place a shot. For those with time concerns, give these new owners a chance to work out the kinks. We saw a table leave because they weren't served and out waitress seemed to hate us from the moment we walked in. I had breakfast here. Food was fast and delicious. Portions were generous and more than I could eat. (I had ham and eggs with French toast, which looked as if it were freshly sliced from a loaf of French bread.) The fresh squeezed grapefruit juice was as advertised. I sat at the counter and, sadly, the service left much to be desired. Megan took my order and never checked back to see if I needed anything - even so much as coffee -, nor did anyone else (I had to ask.) I even had to ask for the check. I was there two weeks ago and had the pleasure of meeting the owner on my Maribel during my second stop. On Monday late morning, my friend and I stopped in to get some breakfast and loved the decor. We were able to study it in great detail while we waited for our table which took too long for no reason. Our waitress was not exactly rude but she wasn't attentive either, she was too Busy cleaning empty tables to bring us straws or ask if we needed anything once our food made it to the table. Our food took a while but it was worth the wait. My eggs were perfect and it was the first time I ate Rancheros Tostadas and they were delish. The portions are big and I got full before I could finish it. We had time to check out the dessert display while we waited for our table so I returned in the afternoon for a piece of lemon bar to go. That had to have been one of the best lemon bars we've ever had. That's when I had the pleasure of getting to have the nicest conversation with Maribel. You can tell that she puts her heart and soul into her establishment. Thank you for taking the time and speaking with me and listening to my critic. So I have come here a couple of times for brunch and it's great! Crowded and a wait, but really good anyway! However, tonight I decided to see if they were open for happy hour. They were! Until 8pm! And they are the best kept secret in town! It was so quiet at 5:30 on a Friday! So much that I was worried they could not stay open at this rate! Happy hour is good! $4 beers, wine, and some rail drinks, and "happier hour" is $3 on select tall boy beers! Appetizers are reasonable too! 1st time visit, Would have given this place a 5 star but I called in at 10:51am on Sunday to ask if they take reservations, was told not really but I can take your name and it will be 45 minutes but we should be here at the restaurant by 11:30. We arrived at 11:23 to find out that the hostess table had no record of my name or party of 5. Told that we would have a 45 minute wait. We got our table at 11:58. Orders taken at 12:06. My wife had a coffee delivered at 12:06 but not refilled until 12:28. Food was delivered at 12:46. Now, with that being said, the food was fantastic. The place is super busy. With food this good you will understand why. Our server was very nice and helpful with answering questions about the menu. Bottom line is it is easy to see why this place is rated so high and with that high rating and good food brings the customers in which can cause one to have to have patience if you go here. read more

This is a really great breakfast place in downtown Minneapolis. We were in town for a volleyball tournament and our whole team (plus parents) wanted to come here. Thankfully, they take reservations for large groups, they seated us together at one super long table, AND they were willing to split checks for each family. It gets very busy here on the weekends especially when the Vikes are playing so get here early. I thought this would be interesting, but the texture of the carrots was too firm for my liking. This place was fantastic! We showed up 12 minutes late for our reservation due to snow and parking and we were still accommodated quickly despite the restaurant being packed. Knocking one star off of my review because the waiting periods in-between interactions with the waitress were quite long and both my hot chocolate and my girlfriend's coffee were served lukewarm. I built my own omelette, my husband had the kitchen sink omelette and a friend of ours had the chilaquiles and she wanted to try the blueberry, banana pancake. We all had coffee and I had the rooster Bloody Mary., Service - mediocre. We had to ask for things several tines. Coffee - weak and terrible. So much so I could only drink half cup. I had a good cup of coffee from Mapps Coffee in Global Market, Build omelette- goat cheese, pepper jack, carnitas, red peppers, green onions and spinach. Mediocre to bad. Not hot. Not held together. Flavored were gone. Good not greasy. Kitchen sink - nothing much to mention. Cheesy. Good was again not greasy Pancake - had a bite of my friend tasted like a box mix. Great pancakes are at The Mill on Central, Zumbro and Colossal Cafe. Three Squares has a banana waffle to die for I know it's not pancake, but it shows how you can fold in fruits. The Mill pancake - aye, aye, aye - so good Will not be back here love my Saturday brunch and there are too many great places out there to settle for mediocre at best and that is being generous. read more
