I went to Minneapolis for work travel and was recommended the Hen House Eatery. It was obviously popular; when my coworkers and I went there for Sunday brunch, there was a big crowd. The host told us it would be a 20-25 minute wait. It ended up being about 25-35 minutes. During the time we waited I toured the dessert case - wow their portions are big and their desserts looked amazing! Our food came 10-15 minutes after we ordered - super fast. I got the Ranchero Tostadas and it was SO delicious. My coworkers got a salad, the fat hen omelet and an order of pancakes with bacon. Unfortunately my coworker's pancakes never came out; she had to track someone down to get it. Waiters were swarming all around as it was very busy and we lost our waiter after he took our order; he never came back. Goes to show how busy the restaurant was. However, I think everyone was pleased with what they ordered. (Mine looked the most delicious!) Aside from the poor service, the food is truly magnificent. They weren't taking reservations the day we went because of an event but if you can make a reservation beforehand, definitely do. read more

The Hen House is one of the best gems in Downtown Minneapolis. I go there once a week after work, and am always impressed. There serving staff is courteous, fast, and always present. The food is absolutely delicious and their Happy Hour specials are hard to beat- where else can you get a full meal AND drinks downtown for under $15? And their desserts! Oh my sweet, sweet [insert your deity here], their DESSERTS! So artfully decorated, and so freaking delicious. You seriously get your bang for your buck with their giant slices of cake. And I mean GIANT- I've got a huge appetite and I still need to share it with at least 1-2 other people! This place was fantastic! We showed up 12 minutes late for our reservation due to snow and parking and we were still accommodated quickly despite the restaurant being packed. The cinnamon roll my girlfriend and I split was the best cinnamon roll either of us had ever had. We each had omelets and split pancakes which were also great. Awesome hashbrowns. Knocking one star off of my review because the waiting periods in-between interactions with the waitress were quite long and both my hot chocolate and my girlfriend's coffee were served lukewarm. Food is decent. Customer service is awful. After our food was dropped off the server Rosa D. came back as food was set in the table. After walking away I realized my eggs weren't prepared as requested. Myself and friends spent the next 20 minutes trying to get her attention. When she returned we were done eating. I asked her to remove the eggs from my bill. She was extremely snotty but said she would. She didn't. I paid my bill but didn't tip her even though I never tip less than 25%. She returned to the table with more attitude. Forget this place. I'm going to find manager to make a complaint. read more

I went to this place the first time today with a friend of mine around 1pm. We were really excited about the food BUT we got food + a show for a price of 1, HEY GIRL! Everything was normal at first, the lemonade was subpar and the food was great..it actually hit the spot bro! The waitress was really meh to be honest we then paid and dipped. I then realized I left my Invisalign wrapped in a napkin at our table 3 to 4 minutes after we left. I immediately called Hen House to notify them & to hold off on cleaning our table. A very friendly host named Oscar picked up my call and offered to dig in the garbage for me while making my way back unfortunately our waitress had already cleared our table. I made it back to Hen House in 5 min. I was approached by Oscar and he informed me that they had already taken the trash out to the big dumpster. I was confused how everything happened so quickly. He suggested I ask the waitress and exactly find out which bin she threw the items in. Shortly after I recognized our waitress approaching me from a distance and informed her about the situation she basically agreed to look for it but came back with nothing....she said she didn't remember and proceeded to ignore me. I then had the restaurant manager involved she then took me to the back of the kitchen and gave me some gloves to look through three garbages (because the waitress couldn't remember which one she threw away the trash in which was FIVE MINS AGO, LITERALLY) the manger walked away I proceeded to look in the three bins. Once I realized I couldn't find my Invisalign in the bins. I started to look for that manger she was no where to be found. One of the employees pointed to the fridge and informed me "She's in there..." I pointed to the fridge and asked "in here?" and replied with a nodd. I swung open the fridge and wouldn't believe what I saw next THE WHOLE RESTAURANT MANGER MAKING OUT WITH AN EMPLOYEE. I was like shooketh...literally shaking in my BOOTS! She stopped what she was doing in that God forbidden fridge & dismissed her employee with a pat on the chest. We made awkward eye contact and to make things calm I let her know I had no luck finding them. She then lead me to the big dumpster and said this is the only place it would be then as she opens it up. 40 trash bags laid in there...there was no way I was going to search through 40 trash bags for my Invisalign as i slipped my gloves off and threw them into the dumpster I told that manger to have a good day and thanked her for the help. All in all the food was good but the service was horrible and the staff very unhelpful, unprofessional and rude. read more

Just a great place to start your day if you are staying downtown on a weekend getaway. Here for a vikings weekend. We sat outside on a beautiful morning and started with mimosas and bloody marys. Breakfast was amazing and everything was fresh. And the desserts, which we got to go and ate later that night were amazing.. cant miss on this one. While waiting for a table with my family (30-45 minute wait) I saw the hostess accept a bribe from somebody who had just walked in. They were then seated immediately ahead of several other groups that had been already waiting over 30 minutes. This is a cute little dinner in the city. Super convenient! I'm kind of a health nut so I didn't end up ordering breakfast foods. We are always looking for new brunch spots in the cities and this one is a winner. The first 15 minutes of our brunch here were awkward: we had a reservation for 10 am on a Sunday. We arrive and check in at the host stand at 10 am...and they seat many tables and don't seat us until 10:20. Now I don't mind waiting 20 minutes, but then don't give us a reservation if we are going to have to wait behind everyone else without one. However that was the only negative. The food here is AMAZING. We started off with a chocolate chip cinnamon roll. They warm it up for you and it was some ooey gooey goodness. We then ordered the avocado and bacon Benedict and huevos rancheros. 10/10. Huge portions and delicious. The tortillas are light and crispy on the rancheros and the black bean avocado combo is spot on. The menu has many other egg and pancake dishes so I can't wait to go back and try more. Parking is tight since its downtown so may be better to Uber! read more

While looking for a place to have brunch with family, I came across the Hen House Eatery. We went out on a Sunday around noon which is usually a pretty busy time for brunch places like this one. I gave them a call and they were able to accommodate 15 of us in their private dining area. We ordered from them via Bite Squad and nearly every time there is a problem with the order. When we have called the restaurant to report the problem, they were rude, tried to blame Bite Squad for not checking the order and were not interested in making things right or correcting the order. When we have dined in person, service has been very inattentive, slow, and yet they rush you once you get your food. Quality of food is not consistent - can order an omelet one day and it's great, and the next the same order will be half the size and not taste fresh. My office likes to order food in for breakfast meetings but we finally had to give up on this place. Overall it's over priced for what you get. read more

What a fun place -- went for dinner and went back for an awesome breakfast the next morning when visiting Minneapolis for a concert. Great staff - better food and the desserts that we took back to the room were incredible. Had a very simple BLT and soup -- but the chicken and wild rice was as good as I've ever had - the added touch if shaved almonds and the little fish crackers made it! The BLT ON Texas Toast was nice and fresh and it was easy to tell the bacon was of a premium cut and brand. Breakfast was equal to dinner if not better -- omelette was perfect and large! Going back to Minneapolis on business next week and already have plans for breakfast... pancakes this time! read more

Went for brunch, I called ahead and they let me put my name in. Got seated right away, menu looked great. Ordered a caramel roll, coffee, a bloody, and four entrees. My mom really disliked the bloody, didn't even finish it. The caramel roll was never brought out, when we asked about it the server said she was out- never apologized for forgetting to tell us that. My husband ordered a club and said it was decent, I had an omelette that was good, my mom got the corn beef hash that she said was fine. All the food came out at different times so my parents had their food for 7 minutes before I got mine, my husbands came somewhere in between. Overall the food was fine but the service was poor, we will be trying another brunch spot in the future. read more

Nothing special. My wife and I had a mix of different breakfast dishes and none were anything to brag about. We also had a cinnamon roll which maybe was the best thing we had there. Very good. The service was not good. However, with a different server maybe it would have been better. Ours was barely around at all. I had only one refill of coffee the entire time and I had to wave down the server just to get that. Other little things were noticeable, like servers dropping off new plates of food but not even offering to clear space by taking old empty plates away... Things like that.
