Hinodeya Ramen (House Ramen)
Jennifer D.

The restaurant was very cozy! Small, dim lighting and quiet. Ordered their house ramen. It was okay, nothing too special. I did appreciate their willingness to make accommodations to the ramen such as no bamboo. Has a nice aesthetic!

A great late-night spot and a comforting go-to. Their food is great, hearty, and a cozy option for the streets of SF at 2am! My only complaint is how small and crowded it can be! I wish their space was a bit bigger so that you could fully enjoy the meal without feeling rushed to make space for others.

I was the first of a party of five to arrive here for a 222 organized event. After entering, I was seated at a nice back corner table within a couple of minutes. Although it was in the middle of the dinner rush, the waiter informed me they were (already) out of the green gyoza and yuzu soda. I asked him if given the nature of our party we could split the check, and he confirmed it was fine. My other party members eventually trickled in, but even after we were all seated, it took a while for our orders to be taken. After ordering, however, the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. I got the zen yuzu ramen for something light before going out to the bars, and it was absolutely the right call. I actually really liked the citrus flavored broth with veggies and inari, although the inari was a bit too sweet. Overall though, it was good and I would recommend this dish for those not wanting to feel too bloated or puffy after eating. Maybe next time though, I would try their house namesake specialty or popular spicy miso ramen.

Tokyo in San Francisco! Something about this city echos between the ears long after I've had to fly back to dull Indiana, sights and sounds, flavors and small inner rooms filled with a tree and skylights linger like old favorite pets. Us five guys couldn't get enough of this place, fantastic staff, huge menu, dynamic atmosphere showcasing crafted and inviting dining. Karage wasn't spicy like others but so good. Hunted for okonomiyaki, alas not here but the other four friends went for the large boxed meats and noodles, gyu-don which I keep forgetting that name. They loved it yet was way too much food for me! Hunted and began to panic what to get, it's tradition for me, then noticed a peculiar vegan soy based sauce ramen. Well why not? And boy did the hunch pay off, have never had such a smooth and drippy creamy dish before in any ramen shop. I'm forever a fan! You got to come here.

First time trying out this ramen place. We had the house ramen, spring rolls, and takoyaki. The ramen tasted fresh and delicious, the ingredients tasted fresh, and the service was quick. The ambiance was good and chill. Would probably check cleanliness, and the restroom could have been better; it had a weird smell.

Had this on my list of ramen places to try for a while and finally decided to come in. Really cute interior with outdoor setting in both the front and back of the restaurant. The staff were friendly and quick to accommodate me and bring out my food. I ordered the spicy miso ramen which unfortunately was not spicy (at least to my tastebuds). I thought the ramen lacked a bit flavor but the miso/umami flavor was very present and the noodles were bouncy which I really enjoyed. Im glad I got to finally try this place out!

We stumbled upon this place because it wasn't busy! It was super unique and the wait time wasn't that long. We were seated right away! The food was really yummy! I've gotten the Guyudon with rice and the side of mini ramen! I would def love to come here again, and the patio outside was really unique and pretty!

I did not have a great experience at Hinodeya. The service is fast and the spring rolls were very good. However the veggie ramen I got lacked flavor entirely and I could not eat much. There was also way too much spinach which just overpowered the other vegetables. I've had good vegetarian ramen that had real flavor but this was definitely not it. Probably would not come back here again.

Beef sukiyaki bento and mini tonkatsu ramen - 5/21/25

What a drastic difference from our first experience. I came in excited thinking I'd get the same plate as last time. But the portions and plates have downsized and the prices went up. You can look at the menu photos to compare prices, I don't have to tell you that it went up nearly $10 since our last visit. Lunch special where? I was too hangry to even consider searching for a different place to eat. So, I ate begrudgingly. The food was tasty and the service was still friendly, but the plate was not worth $26. Sorry, but I cannot rave about this place like I did before. Probably won't be coming back again.

Lunch special with unagi and creamy ramen
Tina R.

The creamy ramen is so delicious! I loved the crunchy garlic toppings they gave us to add to it. The noodles were nice and firm. The lunch special we ordered also came with unagi don, with a perfect half boiled egg, and rice. We also ordered the fried oysters which were thinly breaded and yum. Service is great!

Great time for lunch - they have outdoor seating as well!

Today I wanted ramen for lunch. The service was quick and professional. I ordered the special with 2 items. I have have a mini ramen with rice. Price point is $25 for both. The ambiance reminds me of Japan and restaurants back in Honolulu. Spicy ramen very tasty!

Good place for a nice dinner with friends, pitchers of beer are good for 4 servings, my friend ordered the matcha beer which is when the matcha is poured into the beer cup at tableside. Best thing about this place is that they offer vegan options for ramen in addition to bento boxes and other appetizers. I really enjoyed my spicy butter corn ramen, the spice is more on the mild side.

Soothing ambiance in the back area with an ancient tree and calming greenery, with courteous service and tasty food. I really enjoyed my ginger pork donburi with mini hinodeya ramen, and my friends liked their house ramens too. My donburi had the perfect amount of ginger, I would definitely return and have it again!

And the service matches that energy perfectly: polished, warm, and present without hovering. And don't skip the cocktails. They're a core part of the experience. Their version of an Espresso Martini was my favorite of the night... and I'm not even a coffee drinker. Foodwise, everything was paced beautifully. We started with their playful "smoke break," a crunchy seaweed cigar stuffed with sweet Dungeness crab and caviar. The agnolotti was filled with ricotta and goat cheese, layered with Burgundy truffle and mushroom, and tied together with an aromatic onion porcini consommé. Warm malted pretzel bread came next with a silky Mornay sauce topped with caviar and mustard for dipping. The brandade of salted cod with light, airy whipped potatoes disappeared in a few spoonfuls, and the dry-aged kampachi mosaic, paired with truffle purée and finished with uni béarnaise and more truffle, was one of those bites you pause for. The highlight was the two-part course: matsutake chawanmushi with crab dashi and browned butter, paired with unbelievably tender abalone finished with a sauce made from its own liver. Closing: Bar Crenn isn't about big portions or spectacle. It's about intention, atmosphere, and a rare level of refinement that still feels welcoming. If you're looking for a special night that feels transportive from the moment you sit down, this is absolutely worth the reservation. 5 stars.

Space is beautiful, low lights, wood paneling, velvet seats, a very relaxing but elegant design. Drinks: Mizuwari - good, this is prebatched and carbonated upon service, nice light fruity flavors with a light sparkling effervescence, whisky definitely more in the background, didn't pick up much floral in this one either but enjoyed it Arlequin - good, nice creamy foamy texture from the egg white, nice acidity, with subtle berry notes, and a whisper of scotch in the finish, a very unique take on a whisky sour Baxter - boozy and on the sweeter side, with a strong cognac flavor in the finish, fruity upfront, a slow sipper Food: Nori Rolls: great, loved the fresh Dungeness crab within the crispy nori shell almost like a wafer texture with just a little bit of rice to hold it together, grab was sweet with a subtle saltiness, chives added a burst of light delicate onion flavor, came with two small pieces per order Scallop Tacos: good, thin slices of raw scallops topped with mildly spiced xo sauce, on a very crispy chip like textured shell, the citrus added a burst of freshness, good but was expecting more of a traditional taco with a tortilla, this was a canape sized bite Pretzel Bread with Mornay sauce - pretzel i believe was a buckwheat base so a bit more dense than i was expecting, nice salty crust, mornay sauce was very tart and acidic with a thin runny texture, mustard forward as well, had higher hopes for this wouldn't recommend if you are expecting a classic pretzel Lobster Roll - served in a brioche bun that was a bit dense and lacked the airiness I was expecting, lobster was also a tad tough and chewy, loaded with bearnaise which was creamy and rich with a subtle saltiness but overpowered by the hot sauce served ontop Paris Breast: highlight of the night, really light airy choux with a slight crisp exterior filled with a delicious lightly sweetened vanilla cream, passionfruit orange and guava in the curd and filling was also excellent and made for an exciting end to the meal. Service was solid fairly attentive, plates and serviceware and water refilled and refreshed throughout. Food was well paced. Drinks took a little time to order but understandable given there were only two bartenders for the evening. Overall Bar Crenn was a little disappointing, other than dessert nothing was particularly note worthy. Cocktails were good but not outstanding, small bites were pretty hit or miss with small portion sizes. Glad i got to try this spot but not likely to return.

On the patio, the heat didn't reach every seat leaving parts of the table chilly. Unfortunately, the food seemed to follow the standard set by the furnshings, and was equally mediocre. The fried chicken that sat upon it was also plain. Service was the bright spot. Our server was warm, gracious, and patient with our large group. For a big dinner group where seating and service matter most, the restaurant has its advantages. But overall I wouldn't give it a recommendation.
