The only reason I gave it one star is because the egg wraps we had were very good. On the other hand, the bagels were terrible. We have had three of the thirteen bagels. They had no taste not even the everything bagel. They were not fresh. Actually, I believe one of them looked like it had freezer burn. This place makes their own bagels right in front of you and oh man they are good! So I ordered a bacon, egg white and provolone on an everything bagel and the sandwich tasted great, specifically the bacon was well cooked and crunchy. The coffee on the other hand was not hot enough but that's it and they have almond milk which I appreciate! The place was packed with people and I would say the price for my bagel with coffee is reasonable , around 7-8 dollars. I was charged extra for egg whites which is common in many places. The service was average but the problem I had was the amount of people working in the back was on top of each other. A man carrying eggs on a spatula walked behind a girl with long hair and some could have touched the egg. I don't know what's going on here but this is the 5th time in a row they've fucked up my order. I ask for a simple Taylor Ham and Cheese, extra Taylor Ham on an Egg bagel with ketchup, no salt and no pepper. Pretty simplistic if you ask me. I got no cheese, no ketchup and LOADED with salt on my sandwich. I have busy schedules and don't have time to keep brining my sandwich back so I had to throw away $7. I can understand if they were over crowded. I get it, we're human and make mistakes. But I go during "off-peak" times to try and avoid these complications. I'm sorry, but I simply cannot recommend HBA due to their disorganization and disastrous ordering "system." I've given them numerous opportunities for redemption but I am disappointed at each visit. It's time for me to give up. First, let me say that their bagels are delicious, fresh, and they have a great variety. The food is always tasty... IF you get what you ask for. Which hasn't happened in quite awhile. The problem begins when you walk in. There is no signage, no menu, no nothing. Typically on a busy morning there's a line of 20 people waiting to order/get their food (there's no way to know who is doing what.) Sure you can go to the front and grab a to-go menu, but that means pushing through the throngs of customers to just grab a menu, thus losing your spot in line. But I digress... One thing that really bothers me about HBA is the lack of a proper ordering system. You rattle off a list of what you want, and no one ever writes anything down. Instead, they run off to the back, start filling the order, and then come back and ask questions. Did you want ketchup on that? Salt and pepper? What kind of dressing again? What kind of bagel did you want? Listen, I won't think any lesser of you if you write the order down. OR, invest in a proper POS system to keep track of the orders. Then you wait around, blocking everyone, until the order is ready and they yell at you "hey sir" or "hey miss". Whether they decide to ring you up at that moment is personal preference, I guess. Sometimes they just start helping another customer, and sometimes they ask for payment. Finally, despite the amount of times they came back asking questions about my order, it was still incorrect. I ordered a taylor ham, egg and cheddar on a rye bagel with nothing else on it. What did I get? Taylor, egg and american with ketchup salt and pepper. I can't stand ketchup on my sandwich and despise american even more, but I refused to wait on the line again. The next time we came, we got deli sandwiches. The order was not correct, yet again. Despite the quality of the bagels, there are way too many bagel options in the area to have to deal with this chaos. Never again. read more

They make fresh bagels every day and consistently make one of the best crunchy, chewy soft bagels. I typically order a bacon, egg and cheese on a sesame bagel or garlic bagel. There is a reason this place is always crowded. Goodness, you do not need to get these bagels toasted. Every bagel I've eaten from here is warm and soft on the inside with a nicely toasted and crispy shell. This place is the very definition of fresh and you can watch the bagels being fished out of the vat and going right into the oven. I've never had a stale bagel from here, they are so so good. I come in most weekends, mostly on Sundays, with a pretty lengthy line waiting for me that sometimes extends beyond the store's doors. I never mind, never complain and always wait because I love giving them my business! Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or taking a seat to catch up with old friends, Hot Bagels Abroad has a very homey vibe. I give my order, say YES to "Salt, pepper, ketchup?," fork up my money and within five minutes, I have my bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel in hand! I swung by for a quick bagel in the late morning on a Sunday, and placed two pretty basic orders: egg whites, cheese, on a toasted whole wheat bagel, and taylor ham e+c on a toasted multi-grain bagel. Neither bagel was toasted, and I just wasn't too crazy about the taste as a result. We ALL know the difference between a nice, toasted bagel and a chewier, non-toasted bagel - especially with things like egg and cheese on them. It makes it a bit harder to eat. Hot Bagels Abroad has THE best breakfast bagels ever! I always get the bacon, egg white, and cheese on an everything bagel and it is delicious! The bacon is super crispy, the egg whites are fresh, and the cheese/bagel are warm and tasty. The only thing I don't like is going in there to order it, since they are always so busy and they kind of rush you to get to the next customer. Therefore, I get kind of panicky and just want to get my food and go. But, it's a very minor issue and wouldn't stop coming here simply because of that. Another delicious meal from them is their cheeseburger and fries. The burger is big and delicious and their fries and just right! Why don't you have a bagel only line ? Every weekend I stand in a very long line for "just a bag of bagels" . Not sure why I come back. Also your orders placed on line get to walk in - avoid the line and pick up orders ? My company moved right around the corner from here and one morning I had to pick up breakfast for the office because I won the superbowl pool and the winner buys breakfast (dumb, I know) So not knowing what was really around the area, I googled and this place was the closest. Thank Jebus they were because not only were they super accommodating; I ordered 4 dozen bagels, and 2 dozen mini bagels, with cream cheese, butter, and PB literally 30 minutes before picking it up and they had it all done by the time I walked in to pick up the order. I've been a customer and a fan of Hot Bagels Abroad in Bloomfield for over 20 years. Incredible friendly service, a neighborly atmosphere and an iconic gathering place in town. When l worked in Manhattan I would often bring in a few dozen bagels to show my co-workers what a real "New York" bagel should taste like. So, why only a 3 star rating? Something has changed in the bagel recipe and obviously not for the better. Several months back the bagels got bigger and puffier. IMO, bigger is not better for a bagel. The inside consistency has to be just right, it's an art. Soft and kinda chewy, not puffy. Puffy is for rolls, not bagels. No where is the change more evident than in my beloved cinnamon raisin bagel. They used to be loaded with cinnamon and raisins. They were the best CR bagels on the planet! Unfortunately, that's changed. They're now sparse on both cinnamon and raisins...and puffy. I love Hot Bagels Abroad and I keep returning with the hope that there will be a return to the wonderful bagels of not that long ago, but I don't know how long l can continue to be disappointed. read more

Easily the best bagel west of the Hudson River (and East of the Chicagoland area). Big, dense, not afraid of adding tomato and onion to a lox and scalion cream cheese bagel -- the way it's supposed to be. I came here today for brunch. I ordered their lox and cream cheese on a sesame seed bagel. I really enjoyed the sandwich and it was moderately priced. Other bagel places charge me a lot more for the same sandwich. The service was fast and the staff was really friendly. I also love that they accept credit cards. Not many Mom and Pop shops accept credit cards. Its very convenient. And they bake their bagels on the premises. I will def come back. read more

While I was pregnant I ate here three times a day. Their bagels are always fresh, hence why there is always a line out the door. It's a nice spot to also just sit and eat your bagel watch the news read the paper. Very family friendly and from the looks of it they are also really involved in the community which I love.
