I have been a customer of Hillstone group for over 30 years, frequenting their Florida and Texas locations. I had the most appalling and horrific experience at this restaurant and they have lost me as a customer for life. The assistant senior manager Caroline and the hostess are extremely rude condescending and should not have a job in hospitality. After explaining to the acting manager our situation she was incredibly rude and arrogant and provided no resolution for our problem. She only made it worse. After asking the hostess to speak to a manager we were forced to wait 20 minutes to speak to her and mind you the restaurant was half empty. This has to be the worst restaurant experience of my life. Houston's has been my favorite restaurant for years and due to the way management treated me here they have lost my business for good. Hillstone has a complaint line but nobody follows up with incidents like this. Their brand is starting a sharp decline which is truly a shame. read more

One of my favorite places especially for lunch. They have a few dishes that are outstanding. My favorite is the French Dip that comes with French fries. They make a delicious hamburger that will never disappoint. The baby back ribs are perfect a huge portion that you're probably not going to finish also comes with French fries. The shrimp cocktail aren't jumbo shrimp. They're Colossal in size. Who doesn't love that. I sit at the bar for lunch and with 2 bartenders right there the service is not good...it's great. my first visit to Houston's was in Nashville over 30 years ago! Today without too many changes it's still a place that continues to please! Food - i've never had a bad meal! The hickory burger is my favorite and it's not even on the menu but for those that have tried it - just fantastic- i order it always with extra cheese onions and sauce!! The bar area is always crowded and service is incredible! A happy laughing group of people! They don't encourage customers who don't control their children or dregs that dress like they've come out of a swamp!! I ate at Houston's the past two nights. The service was terrible, the female servers had a plastered smile on their faces, and immediately rushed to take our order before we even sat down. There was no water served, had to ask for it. Then when my friend and I ordered a Caesar salad to split, she brought it over, and said that they dont split it anymore. They rushed us to ask if we wanted another cocktail way before the first one was finished, and then we had to remind them to bring it They no longer bring the ketchup and mayonnaise dip, but asked us if we wanted ketchup. We had a nice dinner here on Saturday night without reservations. We did have to wait an hour for bar seating but we luckily were seated prior to what we were told was the wait time (1 hour and 45 minutes). Not sure if this place is worth such a long wait but I was happy we did. Parking was no issue but it's so dark outside, it's hard to spot pedestrians crossing the street. The ambiance is nice and service was nice. I enjoyed the French dip and chicken sandwich. The artichokes said they were gone for the season but luckily they had some and we got one order. A little burnt and not as cooked as I prefer but still yummy. All the sauces that came with the food was good. Prices are high but for good reason. Everything was served hot and fresh. This place is not as exclusive as they try to pretend to be. They have no high chairs and don't allow strollers. The food is usually pretty decent, service is often good for the most part. However, when trying to make a reservation, they often make it very difficult however, when you arrive half of the restaurant is empty. They definitely need to work on their funnel of clients and how they attend to them as this could offer for a much better inclusive experience. Houstans will consistently deliver. Service is military style. Timing is everything for them. Food... As for Appetizers; Artichokes take 1st place over any other chokes around. Spinach dip, smoke salmon, and their chili... can't go wrong with either. Main dish the ribeye, the salmon n baked potatoes, and the burgers are fire with homemade potato strings! Leave room for dessert. The brownie and keylime pie will not disappoint! I'm going to keep the 5 stars bc I've loved houstons for so many years. But I will say, during my last visit, there was a lap dog in the dining area. I strongly believe that if you must bring your dog to dinner, it should be somewhere with outside seating. Upon arrival, the hostess informed us that flip flops were not allowed. This was surprising, as we have dined at this location countless times over the years without any issue. When I asked to speak with a manager for clarification, the manager approached us with a sarcastic and dismissive attitude, showing no professionalism or courtesy. Rather than explaining the policy or attempting to resolve the matter respectfully, the manager told us, verbatim, that "it's best you don't dine here." We have been to Houston's numerous times, We love it. Mandy was our server today and I must say, as a person that was in the industry, she blew me away. She gave us fresh chilled glasses throughout our lunch for our cosmos ( A+ IMO). The table was always clear of dirty dishes, The apps to entrees timed perfectly. We never felt rushed. Superb quality food with a professional wait staff. The chefs follow a consistent quality preparation! I have eaten there 30 times now and never had an off meal. The salads and soups are wonderful and they have a fabulous veggie burger. The only thing I could wish for there is that they would have a larger 10 ounce burger available on the menu. We always frequent Houston's when in the Boca area. It never disappoints!! We have wonderful service and wonderful food today. Kayden e was the most wonderful server..so sweet and so efficient. It seems like all the servers work together to make sure you are well taken care of and we never had to wait on anything. We started with the jumbo shrimp cocktail and the traditional salad with the creamy garlic dressing. Both were excellent! We decided to try the Rosemary Focaccia bread and it was so delicious. We had the Prime Filet with Fries and the Hawaiian Ribeye with the braised cabbage. Both were cooked to perfection at Med Rare with a little char on them. The braised cabbage with feta was a pleasant surprise and very tasty. We finished with the delicious Key Lime Pie and Cafe Americanos. The Key Lime had a wonderful graham cracker pecan crust. I have a favorite lunch at Huston's the French Dip. But today I had a bad experience. The meat was so fatty that it was slimy, usually there isn't one bit of fat on this sandwich. I took half of the sandwich home showed it to my wife and she asked me why didn't you send this back. I was with someone and didn't want to bring attention to it. So the evening dtarted with a reservation at 8:30, got sat at 8:45. On the meantime we got some drinks at the bar. Checked promptly menu, ordered the spinach dip which was different than other places bc it had sour cream, pico de gallo and chips. It was good. Ordered Ribeye with fries (spicy mayo) and coleslaw (which was green). Steak was good but not the best i've had. Dessert was apple pie which actually felt it was "melted"(?) like no consistency on the crumble. Flavor ok but texture different. Restaurant wasn't that packed but enegry nice and not loud at all. First and foremost, I would like to say Houston's Boca is one of my favorite restaurants and I feel like I am treated like family by the amazing bartenders , Brent, Caesar, Martine and Trish! We love them! So I tend to eat alone at times unless my daughter and ex husband, friends join. When I do eat alone, I like to bring out my iPad to read the news, sometimes the NY Post or a book. So today, I am sitting here and I have my little iPad out and reading the news. The junior general manger, Kevin, came out and said we now don't allow any iPads, lap tops, or any outside things. So we asked to speak to the general manager. I almost felt like I was in a Curb your Enthusiasm episode and I wish Larry David could come to my rescue!!! " No iPads and Pink tiny Straws Allowed! " Mind you, I come to Houston's Boca 4-6 times a week! And love everyone here. He also mentioned we are not allowed to put out skinny pink straws in the martini! When Kevin, the manager, who has now come back recently from another place... we explained to him our situation but he seemed to be pretty sure of his decision. He stated it was his choice with corporate , but in my impression, it seemed to be his. First time at Houston's since we have been in Boca. We will be back but not for a special occasion dining. The great: -Easy parking even though we took an Uber there since we knew we were going to have a few drinks. -The pork chop was amazing if you are not vegan. It was so juicy and probably the best pork chop I have had! -There was a lot of booth seating which was nice and kind of private even though it was busy and noisy there. The booth seating easily fits 4 comfortably. The not so great: -Our main server was just average at best. Took her 10 mins to come back to get our order. Got the wrong bottle of wine but we didn't realize it until after she already opened it but decided to not say anything. We had to refill our glass the whole time which whatever. She was busy. Some of the other staff helped her get my dish away and bring out our other drinks towards end of dinner. Thank you for helping her!! -If you have allergies or are vegan, you would need to inquire on what additional ingredients are in the dishes. The menu has fine print of all ingredients are not listed. Seems like everything had some kind of diary included which wasn't a big deal for us but if you have real food allergies, that isn't going to be great for you. -When you make a reservation, they send you all the rules etc...but don't enforce their dress code so don't even bother to dress too nice here. People were wearing shorts and just very casual overall. It is summer now and it's hot so I guess it makes sense to go in shorts. read more

Houston's is a consistent hit and national chain. Their ribs are second best in the counties, but their tuna salad is top hit. Coffee is usually intensely strong and service is always appropriately attentive. I wish they had their warm bacon dressing but Covid did a lot of changes. read more

We took a drive out to Boca for business and decided to stop in at this Houston's location. This is a very nice, clean and friendly restaurant. You just know everything will go smoothly. Our server, Chelsea, welcomed us and was attentive thruout our meal. Our water glasses were always full, which was a very nice gesture on her part. We both ordered our favorites, the salmon appetizer and the Hawaiian Ribeye with French fries. As always at any Houston's that we have been to, the food was prepared to our liking and tasted very good. Parking spots were plentiful in front of the restaurant, including handicapped spots. The restaurant was full at lunchtime, but we were still seated within 5 minutes. It's a great place to go for lunch or dinner. read more

I dined at Houston's recently for lunch. Surprisingly there was a lunch crowd which caused us to wait for 15 minutes . Thankfully we had reservations which helped to reduce the wait. We were greeted by our waiter promptly. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and very engaging. We ordered the Hawaiian Ribeye, Ribs and French Dip Sandwich. I went for an early dinner (6:15 on a Thursday) and sat at the bar. It was packed. You need to see the hostess to eat at the bar, so keep that in mind. The bartenders were efficient and made a very good martini. They were not stingy with the alcohol and had a great attitude despite being very hectic. They had a good handle on the bar situation. My friend and I shared the ribs for an appetizer. They were soft and fell off the bone. For ribs, they were surprisingly neat and clean to dig into. The chefs glazed the bbq sauce just right on those baby backs; not too much, not too little. The dish came with fries. They needed to be crispier and saltier, which they were neither. Next time I'd pass on the fries and opt for their baked potato, which you can get loaded. For my main, I ordered the ribeye. It was well marinated in soy and pineapple, which made the steak taste delicious, but it could have been softer even at the medium-rare temperature I prefer. Instead of the potato, this time, I ordered bok choy. It wasn't very tasty, and if I didn't know what bok choy was, I would have no idea what vegetable I got. My friend ordered the chicken sandwich, which is an 'off-menu' item during dinner. It was stupendous. The sesame seed bread had a great crust but was buttery soft. The chicken was pounded super-thin and fried crisp. The dressing was reminiscent of pesto, but next time I need to remember to ask the specifics. There was also a mild slaw on the sandwich, which added just the right amount of bitter crunchiness. There is a reason people love Houston's. It is an overall great experience. read more

Hillstone's founder, George Biel, wanted to create a new type of restaurant that was upscale but would be high energy and appeal to people of all age groups. George and his wife Carol wanted to present a higher quality dining experience then had been previously experienced in casual, full service restaurants. In 1977 they opened their first restaurant in Nashville and named it Houston's in honor of their native state of Texas. The Beils franchised Houston's and added other restaurants to the company including Rutherford Grill, Palm Beach Grill, and Gulfstream. They now operate restaurants under 15 different names and the company is still privately held. The family operates 44 Hillstone restaurants in 12 states. I had previously eaten at the Houston's location in Pompano Beach which is on the water but this was my first time dining at the Boca Raton location which opened in 1990. When it opened, it was the 21st in the chain of Houston's restaurants and the second in South Florida. Although this location doesn't have the great intracoastal view it does have a cozy outside patio area with Adirondack chairs and a small waterfall. My friend suggested it for a pre holiday dinner and friendship gift exchange and it was the perfect choice. The restaurant has a very nice ambience. We were seated at a table by the bar so I had a first row seat to all of the drinks being poured. Normally I would have started with a glass of wine but ever since I got sick for a month I have cut out alcohol. I guess I am starting dry January a month early. Instead I stuck to water and we shared an appetizers of Houston's famous spinach dip which is served with tortilla chips, a rich spinach artichoke dip, sour cream, and their zesty salsa. If you only ever try one thing at Houston's it has to be this. The Houston's dinner menu features salads, burgers and sandwiches, and house specials. For dinner my friend suggested I would enjoy the crispy chicken sandwich which isn't listed on the main menu but they have it on the take out. She knows me so well because I loved it. The crispy and tender buttermilk fried chicken was served on sesame bread with dressed greens and swiss cheese. The portion was enormous and I ended up taking some home. Unfortunately we were both too full for dessert because I am sure it would have been wonderful. We ended the night by exchanging gifts and we really do know each other because we gave each other the same present! LOL It was a wonderful night of great food and friendship. First I will start by saying the artichokes were amazing and the brownie was to die for. My server recommended that I order the Ahi Tuna dinner and then charged me $12 for a baked potato and the tuna was so spicy and chewy I could not eat it. He didn't even ask if everything was okay just took my plate that looked untouched and could have cared less. My friend ordered the trout and she said it was so salty. So disappointing when you pay that much for food and the server didn't even care. We had a reservation for 5:15 PM but still waited over an hour to be seated. Make sure you are on time or earlier, this place is no joke. I will say...the food makes up for it! I simply love Houstons! They have consistency in all they do! We went before Xmas and the place was packed as always. Service was top notch as always and ambiance had an awesome vibe. As for food, we had the smoked salmon to start and it is the best smoked salmon out there.... Don't think it is slices of "sandwich " style salmon... NOOO this is a thick cut and smoked to perfection... tender and moist. We also had kale salad that is always a treat. As for main, i like prime rib and they do not have the steak anymore, so I settle with the au jus sandwich which is the same cut, but thinly sliced.... Don't forget to ask for the real horse radish!! The wine list is very good, small but they do have a great selection and very good prices.... Glasses are not the best, so if a wine person like me, take your own.... It works, but it's not aging well. The front of house staff are excellent. They do an awesome job dealing with the rude people trying to sit at the bar, demand a table in the dining room, why it's taking too long to be seated etc. these people are saints. My last time there, a friend made a simple request to have some basic cocktails made such as an espresso Martinti and they said they can't make one or any of the ones requested. Somewhat odd at a place at this price point with a full bar. The cocktail menu needs work. They don't have anything that remotely comes close to other establishments. The service was just average. Our server was kind, but not attentive. All of our food, plus appetizers came at the exact same time and the server just acted like this was totally normal. No one bothered to check on us after our food came and we just rolled with it. Food was good. Nothing wrong with it, but also the same exact product from 2004, just more expensive. For the price point, so many other options out there. Houston's was a staple for years, but it's showing its age big time. The early 2000's were great, but needs to modernize. read more

Went for lunch at 1:30 on a Monday. We had a reservation so didn't wait for our table. Very crowded and loud. Service was friendly and competent. Grilled artichokes were plump and flavorful. Shrimp cocktail was fine. The kale and rotisserie chicken salad was surprisingly devoid of greens, save for a smattering of kale, and over-dressed to the point of soupy. Ding's crispy chicken sandwich was mostly filler, with a 1/4" piece of heavily battered under seasoned chicken, and three inches of spicy slaw; fries were undercooked and under seasoned. Other negative comments involve feeling rushed by staff to finish up and anti-up. Absolutely true! Last night we walked in around 5:30 put our name down for a table which they said would be an hour. The hostess said we could wait at the bar. I was able to find a seat at the bar and when the bartender finally came over he didn't ask me what I was drinking... He told me I'm sorry, but that seat is reserved and you will have to get up. I have never been so insulted at a restaurant. We left and will never go back. We ended up at the farmers table, which was excellent. That will be our new spot instead of Houston's.!!! Houston's has to be my favorite chain. Just wish the chain was longer as they are hard to find. Boca is not my 15th Houston's I have been too. This one is at the same high quality I expect from a Houston's and had the same outstanding Ribs. Very few places can come close to their ribs and none have been better. The side of corn was amazing and slaw good as always. I do miss the skillet bake beans they use to have although I can get them in Houston's in Atlanta. Discriminated for having a 3 year old go under the table for not even a minute. The manager coincidentally came over when we were trying to get situated after a 45 minute wait. Food and service was excellent, but the managers absolutely have an ego and don't take feedback lightly. You know the saying customer is always right? Not at Houston's.
