    Famous French Dip Au Jus

Houston's was wonderful - came here for a business lunch and we were seated quickly. It is no wonder this place gets so packed - food was great. They made sure our steak was cooked perfectly and the french dip was superb. Would come back any day! Thank you guys. Nice staff too

PENNY was a professional server with great suggestions for appetizers and dinner. The place is a favorite with great service and a crowd no matter what day or night of the week. We enjoyed a great dinner, perfect wine pairing and celebrated a happy occasion for no reason at all! SUPPORT LOCAL "A MUST TRY"

We live this busy place. The service is great and they pay very close attention to what you need. We ordered the salmon and French dip. Both of these dishes were amazing. We started off with the grilled artichokes. They only have them once in a while and what a treat. We enjoyed the meals very much. The staff always cleaned up and removed plates and stuff after everything and came by and asked all the time if we needed anything. It's a place that we would visit weekly. Very good staff

I'm not sure what happened with this picture of the pothole in the parking lot at Houston's in Boca Raton?

We have eaten at this location several times. This was our first time back with the new manager that I have heard is very condescending. That is exactly the impression I got as well. The waitress was great but (Penny)want to be manager brought my food out and informed me that I will not be able to order my french dip the way I have for years from here going forward because of the presentation? If they are worried about presentation they should pay attention to the way the fries are cut now, there is no consistency. Have never seen huge cut fries along with shoestring fries? This was the first time I have noticed that in all the years I've been coming there. The fries were also cold!Maybe they should be more concerned with the way people are dressed coming in there? I saw people with hoodies on, jean shorts, T-shirts , baseball hats and I thought that was not permitted. On the website it's very clear what is not allowed and the " new" manager does not seem to be enforcing it. When I asked the manager why people were able to wear hats in there he told me it's allowed in the bar area which I thought wasn't allowed period. I think the person with the baseball hat at the bar may have bern a friend of the manager because I also noticed when he went yo give his credit card he told him he was good and never took his credit card. The people in jean shorts and hoodies were in the restaurant dining area as well. I think the new manager picks and chooses who he wants to have dine there. He is the worst manager I have ever encountered there! Another extremely odd thing I noticed was Penny was cleaning the floor with a full dining room. Shouldn't that be done before the restaurant opens or after? She also made a point to come over to my table to take our pepper that was on our table? Not sure why she picked our table to take the pepper? That must be some code that they have there if they take the pepper from a table. I also found it odd that we were never asked if we wanted desert? Someone other than our waitress brought us out our bill. I do not appreciate having 6 people waiting on me. Also the water they give is luke warm. Had to ask 2x for a side of ice but thats probably because they are worried about their "presentation" more than customer service. Another thing is why do people not wear hair nets when they have long hair? That should be more of a concern because hair on the plate would not be a great "presentation". When I walked out to the parking lot after dinner I twisted my ankle because there is a huge pothole in the parking lot. I have noticed a huge change with the new management and it's not the same. We will not be returning to this location again. I have heard others talking about the new management and the way it has changed for the worse, The new manager needs to work on his customer service skills. He was extremely rude when I asked him about being more on top of the dress attire than worrying about the presentation of having my roll on the side because when I have asked for them to serve the french dip without aujus the roll comes out soaking wet which is gross.I'm not sure what the big deal is? They are lacking in customer service and from the looks of the past reviews under his management he is not making a good impression. Watch out for the huge pothole in the parking lot!I posted a pic but for some reason it was deleted?

Excellent date night spot in Boca Raton the restaurant has a fancy steak house vibe with plenty of seating. The service is always efficient and attentive. The food is top notch my must haves are the spinach artichoke chip which has beautiful chunks of artichoke to cream ratio. The burger and chicken sandwich are big enough to split both are mouthwatering delights. They both come with fries but you are able to substitute for any of the side options. I highly recommend a dinner date here as it will not disappoint!

Went to Houston's for Mother's Day lunch. Been to this Houston many times in the past, but it's been a couple of years. Things have changed. For starters I always order Jack Daniels here now they don't have Jack Daniels. OK you have a chocolate martini so they tell us we don't have chocolate martinis. It's only the hottest drink right now out there in the market. It's not only she said we don't have it that it's the way she said that she was happy to say that she was allowed to say no to a customer. Service was good. The food was good of course what you pay there it better be, ambience was nice. The manager was on top of everything. It was a busy day for that Mother's Day so I understand how everything could be a little bit different. We did ask for a couple of other drinks and they didn't have them so we just ordered some cosmopolitans and I ordered a different whiskey. We did have some deviled eggs were really good and salad, Cesar, which is excellent. I had the chicken sandwich which is famous there. It was very good after it was a little bit on the not so hot side but other than that, it was good the sides coleslaw that it brought delicious too. My wife ordered the fish sandwich and it was amazing. Also, fries are very good. The server that took care of us was very nice and pretty good when it came to following up and taking care of us she even opened the bottle of champagne that we ordered, and she was very talkative and had a good conversation. It was a tough day, but they made it! Ps The key lime pie was good. Fish crispy yumm chicken too Moms fish was delicious and grilled well done like she like s it.

Wow, I used to come to this location several times a week because I thought it was so good, I was nearby today and I decided to take my family to come and have an early dinner, we have their $55 Hawaiian ribeye, which probably was the worst kind of meat I ever had this used to be my favorite, second favorite was the ribs and the ribs were overcooked and dry. My mother-in-law had a French dip. It was OK. I had a baked potato, always great. Their french fries, ouch, I don't know what they did to the recipe, but they're the worst i've ever had. They used to be thin and crispy, now they're average and soggy. Do not recommend.

Went with my daughter, we enjoyed. Started with cocktails I had the crush which was really really yummy!! We shared the grilled artichokes, really good. I had the chicken sandwich side of kale salad (very very thin chicken); she had ribs, fries, kale salad. We enjoyed ALL. The ambiance was nice, the service by Emily was on par.

    Ahí tuna with baked potato
    Kristen G.

I love this Houston's! The ahi tuna is so tender and tasty with a nice sweet kick to it. The mushrooms served with it are amazing. I subbed the cole slaw for a loaded baked potato which was really yummy. I highly recommend their smoked salmon appetizer it is one of the best I've had and the dipping sauce is so flavorful I think it has garlic and green onion in it. Pro tip make a reservation as it gets extremely crowded. Also they don't have it on their drink menu but they make a great mojito!

I used to like coming here pre-covid, but it's gone downhill. I ordered a grilled chicken salad and asked for a different dressing and I was told they couldn't do that. Instead, they offered less dressing on the salad and a second kind on the side. This made no sense. Switched to the cheeseburger (no cheese, no bun), and that they could do. First burger was way too salty, sent it back and asked for no seasoning, which helped. It was okay after that. Had coleslaw instead of fries. First batch with the salty burger was great. The second batch? Tasted like it was in a mustard dressing of some sort. Not even close to the first one. Service was slow. Our server barely checked on us and never came around to offer us drink refills. Also, kind of odd, but all the female servers looked the same. They had the same style makeup, same hairstyle (braid), and most of them had brown hair. Overall, this was just a very disappointing visit. The food wasn't great, service was worse, and prices were too high for what we got. Won't be going back, too many better options nearby.

    Seared tuna salad
    Dawne A.

The service was excellent, the food delicious. They were out of the grilled artichokes the night we visited, however they had guacamole (not on the menu) which was excellent. I ordered the seared tuna salad, the tuna was perfect the salad fresh, my friend ordered the steak perfectly cooked. The place is always clean , maybe a bit too dark for some but we liked it.

Most times, the experience at restaurants is not solely determined by how good the food and drinks are but more about how the people there made me feel. And for the price point and caliber of the restaurant, I would NEVER revisit this restaurant again. First impressions are a real thing and it's a huge factor in the overall experience. Outside of the fact that the place itself was nice and my food was delicious, the old fashioned I ordered was subpar. I've had a better old fashioned from the cigar lounge right up the street. I ended up ordering a Tito's & club instead. From the time I sat down to the moment I received my food, the bartenders never checked on me. It felt like the kind of restaurant where you had to reach out to them as opposed to them checking on you. I've had better food, drinks and service at other restaurants and for that reason, I'd never go back to this restaurant, especially this particular location.

Houston's Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Houston's Restaurant

    Is there a children's menu?

    No there is not.

Are dogs allowed in the outdoor seating area?

Outside seating closed until November As far as I know, I've never seen a dog at Houston's, inside or outside.

    Is there outdoor dining available?

Yes and No. They don't have normal outdoor seating. They have an outdoor waiting area and people would order Apps and Drinks while waiting. Eating a complete meal would not be easy.

I was at Houston's last evening in Boca Raton. Their famous Grilled Chicken Salad with Peanut Sauce was off the menu. I wonder if this is just because of the limited menu during Covid 19?

I believe limited for Covid but they no longer offer grilled chicken on any other salad besides grilled chicken salad which is back

The Boca location is always such a long wait. Annoying every time?

Totally agree. They should take reservations for large parties.

They did have portable heaters outside so it wasn't too cold, but again, not what I requested or reserved. Our server was friendly and greeted us immediately, explaining the nightly special. We started with the Hamachi appetizer, a fun mix of yellowtail with passionfruit and gochujang. Everything about it was delicious but the yellowtail tasted much fishier than we've had elsewhere. Then the waiting game started. After waiting nearly 40 minutes our server brought the appetizer again so we had to assume he'd put a hold on our order and forgotten it. I went in to ask a few minutes later and our food was just now being staged. I don't mine if things happen, it's life, but tell us up front, say "whoops" and we will move on... It was delicious. Because of the earlier wait and mix up, we were offered complimentary desserts. Spensyr got their Key Lime pie and loved it, I got their white chocolate passionfruit cake dome thing and we each thought ours was better. * All in all it was a mixed bag. Apart from the overly fishy appetizer, all our food was delicious. The service was great, except for when they forgot us. The restaurant was comfortable and pleasant other than being kept outside in the cold with an entire empty bar.
