Their artichokes melt in your mouth and tend to sell out early. The cheeseburger is solid all around, while the prime rib sandwich is absolutely mouthwatering. The pan seared salmon was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. They are also very accommodating to dietary restrictions and are able to substitute sides, sauces, etc. Overall, they do execute simple foods very well. I did send my salmon back - but it was because they default to a medium rare cook on the salmon and for most people that's preferred. I can't have raw, so they were super great about it. I saw that the Houston's/Hillstone restaurant empire has an online following, and it makes so much sense. The type of food honestly gives upscale chilis, but in a very quality ingredients way. If it's your first time: highly highly recommend the prime rib sandwich and the spinach dip. The ribeye is good too if you'd like a steak. I've been to a good amount of restaurants in LA and Houston's is pretty high up there on my list because I love the French prime rib dip sandwich and the ribeye steak is delicious and below $60 (which is a steal in this area for steakhouses). For lunch I always get the French dip -- it's fantastic, made from cuts of prime rib! I had it again here and it was great as usual. My friend had the yellowtail sashimi and kale salad. I'm not a fan of kale salad but I had a taste and it was ok. (To each her own). The cocktails were both very nice. I was a little bit let down by Houstons in a few respects. The food was ok - except for the terribly thick chicken tortilla soup. It was kind of gross tbh. I was surprised to see very few steak options. The steaks come with sides included - unlike other steak houses (i.e.Flemings) where the sides are ordered separately. In terms of ambiance - it was really dark and in need of some updates. No fancy tablecloths here. Our drinks weren't automatically refilled - had to request this. Came here to celebrate my fiancé's birthday, and overall it was a great experience. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation--this place fills up quickly, and wait times can easily hit an hour. The ambiance is beautiful: a fully stocked bar, open kitchen, and even a koi pond at the entrance, which the kids loved. Since we had a reservation, we were seated pretty quickly and our waters were filled right away. We had already looked over the menu, so we knew exactly what we wanted. We started with the artichoke dip and the coconut shrimp roll--both were amazing. My daughter isn't the biggest fan of the regular menu, but they do offer an off-menu grilled cheese with fries, which she loved. Just something to note: they don't have an official kids menu. For our mains, my fiancé and I both ordered the Hawaiian steak with a baked potato, and it was finger-licking good. Super flavorful and cooked perfectly. I also had the raspberry mojito--really refreshing with fresh lime and mint. For dessert, my daughter got the hot fudge sundae and absolutely devoured it. Our server, Elina (hope I'm spelling that right!), was fantastic--very attentive and especially accommodating with our daughter. All in all, I'd give this place 5/5 stars. Once I called back enough times for them to answer again, I was connected to Jordan, the manager, who was incredibly condescending and rude despite the incompetence of the staff she's responsible for. Jordan offered no assistance, only evidence that she is completely void of customer service skills. Hillstone Restaurant Group, Houston's Pasadena, & its manager Jordan ruined this milestone occasion for my family. An undependable, inhospitable staff is not what I have come to expect from your establishment, and after reading some of the other comments on your management, I'm shocked you're still failing your customers at this level. Jordan and her team need to brush up on their hospitality skills. I will never trust your restaurants with an important celebration again, and implore others to do the same. read more

Stopped in at Houston's restaurant at 320 S. Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena for a quick cocktail and appetizer. Heads up make reservations to avoid the long wait this is a popular spot and very trendy. When you first walk in you have this amazing ambience then you enter the restaurant everything is like a well oil machine. You get to see the chefs at work behind the kitchen and you see the active bar in all the players that Houston has are well trained, and polite and wonderful. The food is absolutely delicious. As we waited for 3 hours we orders 3 rounds of drinks while their serve acted incredibly fake with no customer service skills. So disappointed by this experience and will never return again. After waiting about 30-45 minutes, we were seated at a booth. (Tip: You don't have to wait as long for a bar seat) Our favorite of the day was the trout. It was perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, and unique. We will definitely be getting that one again. The rib eye was pretty ordinary for a steak. Not amazing but not bad. We enjoyed the yellowtail sashimi salad as well. The only complaint I have is that the dining room is SOOO dark! I can barely see what I'm eating. I have been a loyal customer of Houston's Pasadena for many years and dine here four to five times a week. I've always loved the food, service, and atmosphere, which is why this experience was so disappointing. During my visit on July 2, 2026, I asked another guest if they would mind moving over one seat to accommodate my party--but only after receiving approval from a manager, Katherine. The guest agreed without any issue. A short time later, General Manager Jourdan approached me in what I felt was an aggressive and confrontational manner. She raised her voice, stood directly in my personal space, and spoke to me in a way that I found intimidating and disrespectful. If there had been a misunderstanding about the seating arrangement, I would have gladly complied had it been explained to me respectfully. Unfortunately, this was not my first unpleasant interaction with Jourdan. On another occasion, I received an explanation about children sitting at the bar that conflicted with what my girlfriend had previously been told regarding her son. The inconsistent application of policies, combined with my recent experience, left me questioning the level of customer service and professionalism at this location. I continue to believe Houston's serves excellent food, and the staff has generally been outstanding. However, the way I was treated by the General Manager did not reflect the hospitality I have come to expect from this restaurant. I hope Houston's takes customer feedback seriously and addresses these concerns so that every guest is treated with courtesy, professionalism, and respect. read more

At 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon this place had a 30-45m wait. It was packed. We found quick seating at the bar, our servers were top tier! I'm so glad we chose the bar. The spinach & artichoke dip was amazing, and the Hawaiian ribeyes were equally amazing. Sadly because we were early (dining before 4), we had to have French fries instead of the baked potatoes we were craving but our meal was still GREAT! We had the absolute worst service we've ever experienced at the Houston's Pasadena location today. We are very loyal Houston's customers and regularly travel to different locations because we usually have such great experiences, so today was incredibly disappointing. We sat at the bar and waited about 15 minutes before anyone took our order. We ordered sushi and were only given one soy sauce dish to share. We asked for a second dish, but it wasn't brought until after we had already finished eating our sushi another 15+ minute wait. I also asked multiple times for a drink refill, and each request took an extremely long time. Our bartender/server showed no sense of urgency throughout the entire meal. We also both ordered soup and specifically requested extra cabbage and radishes, but neither request was done. Both soups were also freezing cold. After we left, we called the restaurant simply to let the manager know about our experience. We weren't looking for a refund or any compensation we just wanted to provide feedback because the restaurant wasn't even busy when we visited, and the level of service was unacceptable. Unfortunately, speaking with the manager, Jourdan Mor, made the experience even worse. Rather than listening to our concerns, she repeatedly insisted that it was our fault for not saying something while we were still in the restaurant. We explained that we were only calling to share feedback so the issue could be addressed, but she continued repeating herself. At the end of the call, she sat in complete silence for over a minute. When we finally asked if she was still on the line, she replied, "Yes, but I don't have anything else to say." That response was incredibly unprofessional and showed a complete lack of concern for loyal customers. The poor service from our server was disappointing enough, but the manager's dismissive attitude ensured we will never return to the Pasadena location. We started with the spinach & artichoke dip which was honestly out of this world!! It came with sour cream and salsa (not sure why) but was such a nice dish. I'd come back just for this dip! We also started with one of their sushi rolls which had the most airy and light texture you could imagine. Without any nori or seaweed I found it was lacking the usual slightly-seasoned taste in accustom to in sushi rolls. And I did something I don't think I've ever done in a restaurant/ I added salt. And soy sauce. Much better. Entree for me was the crab cakes. I know, I know, I know what you're thinking - why get seafood at a steakhouse? Honestly, it said it was blue crab, and I just cannot resist that. Turns out I should have resisted- the texture was unlike any crab cake I'd ever had with such an odd flavor. I ate about 3/4 of 1 piece (my partner tried as well) and decided I couldn't eat anymore of it. The slaw it came with was also not to my liking. The server was kind enough to offer other items and apologized that I didn't like it, but it really just wasn't my thing. Told the manager about it, and she had very little concern. Our show very little concern. Her only offer was to replace the dish. I wasn't interested in getting another dish of food; I just wanted to know what happened. Give me a reason to come back, but she wasn't interested.
