I was a little bit let down by Houstons in a few respects. The food was ok - except for the terribly thick chicken tortilla soup. It was kind of gross tbh. I was surprised to see very few steak options. The steaks come with sides included - unlike other steak houses (i.e.Flemings) where the sides are ordered separately. In terms of ambiance - it was really dark and in need of some updates. No fancy tablecloths here. Our drinks weren't automatically refilled - had to request this. They don't even ask if you're celebrating a special occasion. Parking was a disaster - very busy. Nice Pasadena location. am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding Albert Luna and the negative experience associated with his conduct and professionalism. The aggressive behavior and standards demonstrated were unacceptable and fell far below what customers should expect from a reputable establishment. I believe restaurant professionals represent not only themselves, but also the reputation of the establishments and communities they serve. Unfortunately, today's experience was completely unacceptable due to the behavior of your so called Manager Albert Luna. We come to your restaurant regularly, about once a month, and typically spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars each visit. After I had already paid for our food and drinks Mr. Luna aggressively grabbed our food and drinks and told us we to never dine at your establishment again His behavior was disrespectful, confrontational, aggressive and completely inappropriate for someone representing your restaurant. What makes this even more upsetting is that I brought a guests from out of town with me, and they had to witness this unacceptable treatment and aggressive behavior from your manager who supposedly is the face of your company. It was embarrassing and disappointing, especially considering how much we have supported your business over time. He refused to serve us coffee and dessert as our time was up. We were willing to have coffee in the patio. His behavior was disgusting and for him to represent your establishment is truly embarrassing. I hope this matter is taken seriously and addressed appropriately, because no loyal customer should ever be treated this way. I've been coming here for years and it's just as good as it was 10 years ago! We ordered the Ruby Red Trout, USDA Prime Wood Grilled Ribeye, and a Yellowtail Sashimi Salad. After waiting about 30-45 minutes, we were seated at a booth. (Tip: You don't have to wait as long for a bar seat) Our favorite of the day was the trout. It was perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, and unique. We will definitely be getting that one again. The rib eye was pretty ordinary for a steak. Not amazing but not bad. We enjoyed the yellowtail sashimi salad as well. The only complaint I have is that the dining room is SOOO dark! I can barely see what I'm eating. The reasoning for my mediocre rating is because the bartender was have such a loud conversation with one of the guest that it made it hard for me to understand my friend who was sitting across from me. This review is specifically in response to the disgraceful conduct of the co-managers on duty at lunchtime on April 11th, whose miserable attitudes and shockingly unprofessional behavior completely ruined what should have been a normal dining experience. I have never been treated with such blatant disrespect, hostility, and outright aggression at a restaurant in my life, ESPECIALLY by co-managers who should be held to a higher standard of professionalism and ethical conduct. My friends and I went to Houston's and were quoted 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes for a party of five. For additional context, someone in our party was 8.5 months pregnant, and despite the excessive wait, the restaurant offers no seating or accommodations for guests waiting for their tables. We said no problem and waited patiently. After an hour and fifteen minutes had passed, we checked in and were specifically told that the next table of 5 would be ours, and that it would be "10 more minutes." Instead, we stood there and watched them seat a party of TWO at one of the very few 5-top tables (the exact kind of table we had already been waiting nearly an hour and a half for). Given how blatantly we were skipped after being told we were next, it certainly made us question whether Houston's seating process is actually based on the waitlist at all, or if certain parties receive preferential treatment behind the scenes. When we asked why they would do that after telling us we were next, the hostess/co-manager played dumb and said, "I don't know what you mean." When we repeated the question, because she obviously knew exactly what we meant, she suddenly became aggressive, combative, and completely unprofessional. She stormed out from behind the hostess stand, got directly in my friend's face, and began speaking to him in a confrontational manner as if we had attacked her simply for asking a reasonable question. Let me be clear: no one yelled, cursed, or acted aggressively whatsoever. Her response? "I will not serve you. I'm refusing service." No explanation. No justification. No attempt to remedy the situation. Just an immediate power trip. Once it became clear she had no valid explanation for her behavior and knew she was in the wrong, she cowardly avoided further discussion by pretending to take phone calls rather than addressing the situation like a professional. When another person in our group asked why we were being refused service, the male co-manager (who was one of the most arrogant, miserable, and nasty individuals I have ever encountered in customer service) said he "doesn't need to give a reason." Again, someone in our party was 8.5 months pregnant and had been standing there waiting for well over an hour and a half. Her husband mentioned this hoping maybe they'd show the smallest shred of decency or empathy. We were wrong. Instead, the male manager responded by telling us we were being kicked out and that standing there wouldn't do anything. He repeatedly stated that he did not need to give us an explanation. Absolutely vile behavior. I recorded the entire interaction and have both managers on camera. These are not hospitality professionals. These are rude, power-hungry, deeply unpleasant people who clearly despise customers and abuse whatever tiny authority they have. The level of hostility and contempt shown toward us for simply asking why we had been skipped was shocking. Houston's should be embarrassed to employ managers who behave like this. If this is how they treat guests, especially a pregnant woman and a group who waited patiently far beyond the quoted time, then this establishment has serious problems with leadership and culture. The food could be the best in the world (which it is not - I found a produce sticker on my tomato last time I was there and the utensils and cups are almost always dirty) and it still would not be worth enduring the humiliation, aggression, and disgusting treatment we experienced. We will never return, and I strongly advise anyone considering dining here to spend their money somewhere that actually values and respects its customers. These managers should find a new profession immediately, as they possess none of the temperament, professionalism, or basic decency required for customer service. Frankly, they seem far better suited for a boxing ring, where their obvious pent-up aggression might be more appropriately directed since they are unable to control their emotions in a hospitality setting. read more

It was my first time here- much to the surprise of the majority of my circle. Upon walking up, the line scared me but -surprise- the hostess said she had a table ready for the 2 of us. My drink wasn't the usual items I find and was a welcome change to the 'usual' lineup of cocktails. My partner said the marg could have been more mixed/blended but was otherwise good. We started with the spinach & artichoke dip which was honestly out of this world!! It came with sour cream and salsa (not sure why) but was such a nice dish. I'd come back just for this dip! We also started with one of their sushi rolls which had the most airy and light texture you could imagine. Without any nori or seaweed I found it was lacking the usual slightly-seasoned taste in accustom to in sushi rolls. And I did something I don't think I've ever done in a restaurant/ I added salt. And soy sauce. Much better. Entree for me was the crab cakes. I know, I know, I know what you're thinking - why get seafood at a steakhouse? Honestly, it said it was blue crab, and I just cannot resist that. Turns out I should have resisted- the texture was unlike any crab cake I'd ever had with such an odd flavor. I ate about 3/4 of 1 piece (my partner tried as well) and decided I couldn't eat anymore of it. The slaw it came with was also not to my liking. The server was kind enough to offer other items and apologized that I didn't like it, but it really just wasn't my thing. To start I don't like to put labels on people, but the people who frequent this place is pure good vibes. From the moment you walk in, you get a great welcoming by the people who is already there waiting. I'm not sure if it was just to my family and me, but even before we entered, the people already waiting outside said hello to us and wished us to enjoy our dinner, l found that very nice. Once inside, the staff is incredibly attentive; I absolutely love it--I really appreciate being treated with such care, just like they do at Houston's. Sean was, without exaggeration, one of the most rude, condescending, and unprofessional people I've ever encountered in a hospitality setting. There was zero attempt to listen, zero effort to de-escalate, and absolutely no sense that he cared about the customer experience. It was the kind of interaction where you walk away thinking, how is this person leading a restaurant? Hospitality requires empathy, composure, and basic respect--none of which were demonstrated. Instead of resolving anything, he made the situation worse with an attitude that felt more defensive and self-serving than solution-oriented. At the end of the day, this is customer service. Guests are choosing to spend their time and money here. When the General Manager treats people like an inconvenience rather than valued customers, it reflects poorly on the entire establishment. You also cannot go wrong with their grilled artichoke or spinach artichoke dips as appetizers. To finish off the meal, we always get their apple walnut cobbler, or their hot fudge sundae. Service is always exceptional. All servers are really personable, attentive and well versed on all of their dishes. My husband and I were able to try the Grilled California Artichokes - we both enjoyed it and also liked the sauce it was paired with. I ordered the French Dip and the meat was cooked so well it basically just melted while I was eating it. If you can get a reservation, that is HIGHLY recommended, as apparently I am not the only Houston's fan! You will be welcomed in very soon after your check-in with a reservation. If no reservation, whatever the projected wait time is, consider it very accurate and maybe tag on another 10-20 mins, because it is serious here! Also, if you don't mind, sign yourself up for the bar area as well for a quicker chance at getting seated. That's right, this is not a walk up bar, there is a wait. If someone leaves and you take their seat, they will remove you because there is a wait! You can stand at the very limited standing area of the bar to order and move over and there is a little bit of standing space to the side, perhaps enough for 2 people or 2 couples max to squeeze to stand and drink while you wait. The check in staff will also take a drink order for you and deliver it to you whenever else you decide to wait, such as the indoor lobby, outside lobby or sitting area around the koi pond. They also offer fries for kids waiting. So I want you to know the wait is serious but also can be enjoyable with a drink and plenty of people watching :) which can be super fun. The staff here are not your average Joe. They are professional, friendly, top notch and aim to be very in tune with their customer(s). They are attentive, friendly, welcoming and seem to anticipate your needs and know everyone in the room. The bar staff are fun, engaging with guests and each other and that makes for a very fun space! A lot of the guests are regulars here too, so there is a lot of strangers engaging and talking all the time. Everyone seems to be social and in a great mood here. The drinks are great too. I've never had a bad drink here, except for the time a woman insisted I try her margarita with (at her request) mezcal and that sincerely was not for me, yuck! lol. But it was her crafter specialty. It was fun and cool that she shared but that was the only bad drink I've had here that I can ever recall. All their curated drinks, wines, and more, are delicious and go down smooth and quickly while you're having fun, so be warned lol. The atmosphere is dark and lively. It does feel like you're sucked into somewhere else, while you're here, which is really nice. Hidden gem- the sushi. This is my favorite sushi anywhere. Another top app is the artichoke and spinach dip! Super tasty and the chips come warm. They'll even offer more chips if you run out, again the staff are top notch and keep in tune with customer needs almost within seconds or just before you even think you need something yourself. Entree favorites of mine are the to die for kale emerald salad! So delicious and probably the only kale I'll eat. The chicken here is succulent and never anywhere in the realm of dry. The California burger is amazing with or without the bun! And they'll let you swap the fries for any avail side (or kale emerald salad, sans chicken of course) which I usually do because I'm not a fan of skinny fries. Another staple is the Hawaiian ribeye! Holy moly!! Soooo tasty and drool worthy. It usually comes with the amazing loaded baked potato during dinner or fries during lunch hours but again you can swap that side for kale salad or other available sides in the menu. I can't say you can't go wrong with anything on their menu because of course we all have personal preferences but these aforementioned are my dream team when I come dine at Houston's and I don't veer from there. The desserts are special decadent and also delicious. My favorite is the warm apple dessert a la mode, this will not disappoint! Their brownie is quite decadent but delicious as they sprinkle coffee and sea salt and it comes a la mode. The key lime is another dessert winner. Great food, with several gems, great ambiance, away from hustle and bustle, and great anticipatory staff that aims to serve! Haven't been to Houston's in awhile as our local one closed down. Had a reservation to celebrate two birthdays and was informed by another guest in the party re their "dress code." So I had to ditch my athleisure wear! No athletic clothing, hoodies, etc. I wear Lulu's everywhere. And it's not acceptable at a place like Houston's?! It's not exactly 5 star classy. In fact, I don't get all the rave reviews as I found the food to be less than desirable. Nice looking burger, but taste wise, EH. French dip, EH. Appetizer of chips and artichoke dip was good. And the sushi... absolutely outstanding. We ordered the Coconut Shrimp Roll, Tuna Mango Roll, 'Osaka Style' Pressed Sushi, and Hiramasa Roll. Each one was incredible -- fresh, flavorful, beautifully prepared. These are truly some of the best sushi dishes I've had here in Los Angeles. I love the decor & service here. You can only make reservations in person, so it was a bit of a wait. But it was worth it. The decor was very elevated and beautiful. It's the perfect spot to celebrate an occasion. There's a parking lot connected to the restaurant. I arrived from the airport and they were able to hold our luggage while we were dining. The food was spectacular. The ribs were falling off the bone. It was a large portion size and so delicious. I also tried the ribeye and it was amazing as well. 10/10 experience. read more

This restaurant sets the standard for excellence, they have the best service ever, and have some of the best food in the city. The food is always cooked perfectly and always fresh. We love the sushi, the burger, and the chicken sandwich however everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. Excellent quality ingredients. Ambiance is great too. Our server Carmen was amazing, attentive and she had a contagious smile. Best customer service in the industry. Do not leave without having the Apple cobbler you will thank me later :) read more
