I have found my new place for Breakfast!!! Today (Sunday, 9/8) was my second visit. I was not at all disappointed. I ordered Chilaquilles with the Steak. When I say medium rare. I received medium rare and I was in heaven. Never had Chilaquilles before. I was surprised it was crispy corn tortillas with cilantro, queso fresca and crema. I ordered half/half of the red and green salsa. Explosive. Fresh. Addictive. The accompaniment with my steak made a great breakfast. I shared a perfect pancake and sausage. I ate that last. There was no shame in eating all this food. It was so, so good. Surprisingly, my stomach didn't feel uncomfortably full. I think it had to do with the fresh ingredients. My first visit, (Thurs, 9/3), I ordered the Chilango Omelette. The tomatoes, guacamole, cheeses, exploded in my mouth. Again I ate everything. I couldn't stop. See that little plate of fruit? The sweetest palate cleanser ever. Get the Mexican coffee. Who knew? No one told me about this. There's cinnamon in this coffee. And it's always hot. I had three cups. This is my new coffee. I've driven past this restaurant on Sherman Way of Fulton for years. Hungry Fox is a great restaurant for families, friends, a date for two or one. Even to cure your hangover. There is a wait on the weekends, but it's not uncomfortable. They close at 2pm, so get there early. Sit in Annie's section. She's amazing. Annie made me feel as if I was a regular. Even my second visit, she recognized me and greeted me as if she knew me. She also has a great haircut. Let's not forget the fish who is oblivious to all the excitement around him. I watch him and wonder why he is so fixated with the right side of the tank. I think he was looking at the Mac 'n Cheese Balls at the nearest table. I'll order this at my next visit. A must visit. Because they don't have this back home! Well really this was my home growing up and it is always a treat to be able to stop by again year after coming back to visit the 818. Best chicken and waffles in the valley IMO! Hands down! Make sure to try their Thai iced coffee and hot cakes as well as they are a generous portion and delicious 100% thru. We also ordered the chilaquiles and asked for them bandera style half red and half green. Fried egg on top is a simple delicacy for richness and a savory contrast to the taste combined with the crunchy and semi soft textures. We heard about this restaurant on TikTok and were really excited to finally give it a try, especially since we came all the way from the Antelope Valley. Upon arrival, you must check in by writing your name on their list. Unfortunately, they don't have an updated system where they text you once your table is ready, so you have to wait inside or be close enough to hear your name called out. There really isn't a waiting area, so everyone stands by the bar top and entrance. Best chilaquiles I've ever had. The green salsa was perfection, the tortilla chips are crunchy, and the meat was tender and well seasoned. Topped with queso fresco and pickled red onions is just one of the greatest breakfast combos ever. This dish is what they're known for, and the chicken and waffles were good too, but they didn't even come close to the green chilaquiles. This was my first time trying this location and it was no disappointment. The place is very small inside, with a mom-and-pop feel. They are known for their chicken and waffles, and they were very good. The chicken and were moist with flavor. I also, got a Thai iced tea and it was delicious. The staff was nice and made sure I was happy with my order. The line was pretty long but moved fast. I was able to sit at the counter which helped me be seated quicker. When you walk in the sign-in sheet to place your name down for seating is to your left. I will definitely be dining here again. My friend and I decided to check out the Hungry Fox for brunch. I got there a little before her and put our names down. It was about a 15 minute wait on a busy Sunday afternoon, but I would say that 15 minute wait is not that bad. They have a parking lot with free parking, so that's very convenient but that space inside is quite intimate but it's a cute diner. The host and staff were all friendly but the service was a bit slow and not super attentive. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles and my friend ordered a chicken chillaquilles with a red sauce. The food in my opinion was underwhelming. I enjoyed my waffles and I appreciated the smaller pieces of chicken but, I felt like it lacked flavor. The chillaquilles also lacked flavor and felt a bit bland. It was disappointing because those two dishes are supposed to be their best selllers! They also forgot my Thai iced coffee and charged it to our bill, so I made sure to point it out to them before paying. I can't recall when I first drove by The Hungry Fox. I kept wanting to go, but was always on my way somewhere. Today, my husband took me for my birthday breakfast. All I can say is that I wish we had come sooner. The Hungry Fox is a really cute diner with the loveliest two women running it. Gina was absolutely wonderful. But the star is the chef behind the scenes. I had the Brian Likes It! A breakfast sandwich made with waffles, eggs, ham, cheese and avocado. It comes with hash browns or home style potatoes. I'm ruined for any other breakfast. SO GOOD!! And a massive portion. My husband had the California Omelette. Not a crumb left on his plate. It also came with the best homemade strawberry banana jam. I'm a sucker for a legacy location that's survived through the decades and changed just enough to stay relevant without losing their charm. That's why I was excited to try Hungry Fox, which I've only just discovered despite living here for 39 years, and despite the fact that the HF has been open since the early 1940's. Unfortunately the experience wasn't quite what I'd hoped for, though there were definitely some bright spots. To begin, the exterior of this neighborhood coffee shop is a vibrant green that catches the eye in a very inviting way. Inside, the staff is as friendly as can be, offering a quick, lively greeting and seating me fast. I was seated at a booth on the long side of the venue, and you can tell that this area was originally occupied by an old-fashioned counter with stools. At some point, the counter was removed and replaced by booths and tables in order to increase seating capacity, but the service shelving that would have been hidden behind the counter is now completely visible, and a big stash of back-up dishes and cleaning supplies isn't the most appetizing environment for a meal. Additionally, the wood trim around the booths and the textured wallpaper have absorbed quite a bit of grease, and could really use a deep cleaning. I normally love the throwback nature of these old-school gems, but this one just seemed a tad too untended. As to the food, I opted for a diner classic: Corned Beef Hash with Eggs Over Medium, Home Fries and White Toast. The hash was the best of the components, seemingly made in-house and cooked to a nice crisp as I requested. The flavor was memorable, with unconventional seasonings that were a really nice surprise. The eggs, however, were a disappointment: cooked in too much oil that was probably too hot, the egg whites were "fried" to a crispness that made them tough, and if you look at the close-up photo you'll see the oil pooling on the eggs. I only ate one of them. Home fries were also cooked on a too-high heat, the skins getting burned without being truly crispy, and there was very little flavor despite the inclusion of onions and peppers. Toast was made too soon after my order and arrived cold. So, while I accept higher prices in our current economy, this really didn't feel like a breakfast plate worthy of its $20 price tag. In the end, the people here are nice, and I hate to not be supportive, but I don't know that I would return anytime soon. And with other similar legacy locations starting to close, it would be great if the owners here were able to step up their game at least a little bit to attract new folks like me and keep us coming in. read more

We drove about 40 minutes to have brunch at the Hungry Fox. I think my husband came across a review on social media. There was a crowd outside waiting for a table. We probably waited 20-30 minutes to be called. Once seated we quickly got drinks & our food followed soon after. We were trying to have something different but the chilaquiles always suck us in. Overall it was a good experience, good food, fast service & lots of street parking. They do have a private parking lot but I'm sure it fills up fast. I tried Thai coffee for the first time, pretty yummy. The loco moco was unfortunately bland. I sprinkled pepper on it to give it a kick. Came here early Saturday morning and had a great experience! I ordered the marinated skirt steak and eggs with cheese, which came with potatoes -- I skipped the toast. Well I finally go to try this place and I have to say it didn't disappoint! This fine establishment is nestled on the busy street of Sherman way. It's got that diner American dinner charm when you walk in but with a Thai home feeling too. The people here who served me were great! Their menu had some American staples and some of those staples had a Thai twist to them although I will say I only saw it briefly and so I'm not too sure but I can say with confidence they had Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee which I got the latter and with that I got the chilaquiles skirt steak with scrambled eggs. I want to say that if you're a fan of chilaquiles it is pretty good! You get a generous portion of the tasty chips under your eggs with some pickled onions your choice of the verde or rojo sauce for the chilaquiles in which I got both for it and it was the best ever so much flavor and I haven't even gotten to the skirt steak which not only was tender but so juicy and flavorful. I asked for it to be medium rare and it came out mostly medium-well but the tenderness and juiciness of the steak itself was just spectacular. I got the Thai iced coffee and I will say the taste is different because I'm used to drinking Thai iced tea but when drinking the coffee you can definitely tell the coffee had a special taste to it like it was very prominent in flavor! I liked it very much it was a different taste. I think this place is great and it makes sense as to why this place stood through the test of time. Great people, great service and great food! I came by Hungry Fox for the first time for breakfast on Sunday morning. The positives: my skirt steak chilaquiles were delicious, the steak was perfectly cooked. My husband's pork chop loco moco was tasty. The negatives: there is ugly generative AI content EVERYWHERE in this restaurant. From the signage taped up near the entrance, to the framed (dirty) AI "art" on the walls, to the menus, to the designs on the shirts every worker was wearing. It really detracted from the ambiance, which is rough to begin with, the place could use a deep clean and whatever old-school diner charm it might have once had has been scrapped to make room for more seating. The proliferation of AI in this place makes me worry that if the ownership doesn't care about creating original designs for their own branding, there are other corners being cut. Beyond the ugly AI everywhere, the Thai iced coffee we ordered was burnt and oversweet, and the service was brusque. There is clearly a strong vision for the food at this place. The quality of the steak in my chilaquiles, the perfect medium rare cook on it, and the delicious salsa roja on the crispy chips all tell me that whatever human beings are behind the grill and creating the menu care about creating quality, delicious food. However, it would be nice to see a real human touch brought back into the curation of the atmosphere of the place. A few pictures on the wall by local artists would go a long way. Replacing the AI images of food taped up everywhere with real pictures of the actual food served at the restaurant (which is plated and presented quite nicely, in real life!) would go a long way as well. read more
