ICHIBAN BUFFET delivers a bold, satisfying feast that genuinely stands out in Gardena. This spot always has people either waiting or dining in. The spread is huge and impressively fresh, from dim sum and sushi to Mongolian BBQ and those addictive cheesy mussels. The teppanyaki grill is the star: watching the chefs cook your plate right in front of you adds a fun, energetic vibe to the whole meal. The staff keeps things warm and welcoming, the dining room stays clean, and the spacious seating makes it easy for families to settle in. Prices feel fair, takeout is convenient, and the senior discounts plus kids‑eat‑free promos make it an even better value. With easy parking and a location near familiar spots like O'Reilly Auto Parts, this buffet is a go‑to choice for variety, freshness, and a genuinely enjoyable dining experience. Miguel C.

Good points: Great for families , that don't have a chance to cool or get together Priced well per person about $23pp on weekends Clean, and well prepared , but wear went when they first opened . Variety of asian food , soups individually served , sushi options, cold crab and Cajun crab, kids options , american desserts and asian buns nd ricecakes. Teppenyaki but looked like Mongolian BBQ. Taste was not bad 3 out of 5 for a variety of items we tried i.e. the noodles, fried and stewed fish, crab, walnut shrimp, fresh fruit , jello, and rice cakes. I know this place serves hundreds of people within hours. I totally recommend over some of the bougie beach spots when you're with the fam!

Ichiban Buffet exceeded my expectations! The food was fresh across the board, especially the crab, fish, sushi, and seafood. I also appreciated that nothing was overly salty, so you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. They have a huge variety of options, from sushi and seafood to hot dishes, salads, and desserts, so there's something for everyone. Everything I tried was delicious, and the buffet was well stocked throughout my visit. The restaurant was clean, the presentation was nice, and the atmosphere was welcoming. I don't go to buffets often, but I would come back to this one.

I think me and my bestie got here pretty close to closing time but we just came here randomly and the food selection honestly wasn't that bad.. however, there was a lot of good looking shrimp dishes that I couldn't eat Cus im allergic and it sucks cus all the good dishes were shrimp -_- I was literally half asleep when I came here but I remember we got seated pretty fast. There was a decent amount of customers there and it wasn't too bad for my first buffet experience in Gardena. I never tried when this place used to be Hometown Buffet lol Anyway, probly won't come here again but it was an experience :D

Variety on my 1st plate. Had 2 more after this!

SO many good choices! Staff working hard to replenish drinks & pick up used plates. Attentive to say the least. Spacious. They have a banquet room. Crab legs were on the small side. 30+ minute wait on a Sunday afternoon. Lots of parking. The carpet in that place is questionable considering all the food that's involved & the foot traffic; (saw drippings from used plates, piled with food scraps falling on the carpet). But will go again though not in a rush to...

Ichiban Buffet - Visited Friday lunch, 11/28/25 Service was excellent--fast, friendly, plates cleared quickly, drinks always full. Food was solid: hot items fresh, good variety (sushi, teppanyaki, shrimp, salad bar, desserts all hit the spot). Only downside: no rock crab at lunch (server confirmed it's dinner-only). Great value for lunch (~$18). Clean, spacious, easy parking. Will return for dinner to get those crabs! Recommended.

Do they have crabs the whole day on Saturday and Sunday?

They should, however, you better be on the lookout for them because as soon as they are presented at the buffet, they are gone FAST! And will have to wait for the next batch.

    Do they sell alcohol?

    No, they dont have that

Do they still do tibeye all day on weekends?

Hey! Are they generous with costs here? Like, lets say for example I came for a table of 2 at around 3:00pm, but I need to wait around 1 hour or more, and we would get our seat at 4:30pm. Can we still pay for the Lunch hour and not the Dinner hour?

Dinner starts at 3:30, so I would imagine if you get your table at 4:30, then you would be considered for dinner prices. Better to ask the establishment themselves.

Hello, can I make a reservation for August 2nd? It is not a large party but it is for my mom's 85th birthday and I don't think she can wait a long time to be seated.

It's probably best to call the restaurant, however, they may only take reservations for large parties.

Is crab only served on weekends?how much for dinner time?

All week dinner time I believe. Crab is very small and very thin and it's on ice. Very hard to get the meat out.

Hi do you do reservations for big parties?

Yes only on weekdays thank you

    Do they accept Apple Pay?

    Yes, they accept Apple Pay.

Is there any crab on sunday lunch?

Yes we have Steamed live crabs and snow crab legs on Saturday and Sunday all day

Is there crabs during lunch time?

    No only for dinner time

What's the current pricing? Are there different lunch and dinner menus that exclude certain items?

What time does dinner service start?

They start serving dinner menu at 3:30pm. Enjoy!

    When are crab legs served?

They have them all the time I suppose. we have been there in the middle of the week and they have them.

    How much for kids?

    Last I went a few months ago: 3-6yrs old: $8.99 7-10yrs old: $14.99.

    Any to go option?

Yes, you get a box from the staff and you fill it with what you want and then at the cashier station it will be weighed and you are charged by the weight. Sorry, I don't know the current pricing.

How much is dinner and lunch?

As of Feburary 9th 2025 Lunch is 15.99 for adults Dinner is 21.99 for adults

Any of the food contains peanuts and treenuts?

Hi Cheryl, yes some of their menu items contains peanuts, tree nuts and sesame seeds.

Do they serve beer or wine?

No they do not, only fountain drinks and hot coffee. Ofc water too.

We ordered 1 for each of us the omakase nigiri combo, which is 14 pcs of sushi, steamed egg, and miso soup. For the price, I would definitely say that it was worth it with everything that you get and the quality of the sushi they give you. The fish were all really good quality and really well made. The miso soup and steamed egg were both good bonuses that came with it. Service/Ambiance On a friday evening dinner, place wasn't too packed and you had an option for either bar seating in front of the chefs or just a regular table. We had opted for a regular table, but next time we'd definitely go for the bar seating as they make it in front of you and serve it to you one by one rather than serving all the choices in one plate. What is amazing is that each visit seems to be better than last, I don't know how chef Daniel does it. I love chef Daniel and his team. Currently, his sister Annie is working the service, and she is so friendly and nice. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. I started frequenting omakase back when it was cool for the chefs to be "sushi Nazi", unfriendly and aloof, and chef Daniel is the extreme opposite. As for the food... amazing! The courses are similar, starting with appetizers, then nigiri items, and ending with dessert. Some of my favorite items are the mackerel sando (mackerel in home made bread, delish), Jeju abalone with sauce made from its innards, yaki-tamago dessert, beautiful Meiji tofu with dashi broth, I could go on and on. I've had many abalone in my lifetime, but the abalone here is the best I've ever had. He usually has seasonal fish that is limited in availability, and it's such a treat to be able to experience such variety of items. Chef Daniel is also very informative about every course and I learn something new every time, so it makes the dining experience even more special. I highly recommend Sushi Sonagi, Free parking in the lot and reservation is through Tock. Enjoy!

KenScale: 8.5/10 Visit: December 2025…read more Before we headed off to Los Angeles, my wife Jun and I debated where to take out our longtime friend and her husband the night before our trip together to the Santa Barbara wine country. We knew her friend loves sushi but it also happened that we had visited Sushi Sho in New York in the fall that we were afraid we might be too spoiled to enjoy another sushi restaurant. At the end, we decided to focus on treating our friend and booked a reservation to Sushi Sonagi, located inside a strip mall in Gardena outside LA. At the end of the night, Jun and I were surprised just how much we loved our experience at this sushi restaurant. The chef Daniel Son, a second-generation chef, is in charge of all of the dishes at Sushi Sonagi, which has a single counter table with two shifts per night. What really stood out about the omakase at Sushi Sonagi (the menu costs $250 per person) is chef Daniel's openness to experimenting with ingredients not typically used at a sushi restaurant, as well as the overall balance in flavor of all the dishes. The opening dishes featured a super delicious chawanmushi with snow crab and (unexpectedly) sweet corn. The fried green eyes fish was also another delightful item on the course, as well the mackerel sandwich that Jun really enjoyed even though mackerel is not her favorite fish. My two favorite dishes before the nigiri section were the black abalone (sourced from Korea's Jeju Island) with liver sauce - this is one delicacy that I won't stop thinking about for a while - and monkfish liver (which had a bit of wasabi on top to a surprising effect) that would've held its own against ankimo at other top-end sushi restaurants. The nigiris coming from chef Daniel's magical touch were also of consistently high quality; Jun and I were especially impressed with how each piece wasn't overly seasoned to maximize the texture of the fish. Some of the standout pieces wowed us with ingredients we had not encountered before, like the baby green onions that complemented beautifully with spotted skipjack tuna, or the seared flounder fin that was exceptional for its textural complexity. I certainly don't recall having many langoustine nigiri at sushi restaurants before, and after chef Daniel brought one (from New Zealand) with wonderfully crunchy texture, I wondered why other sushi restaurants don't try this ingredient more often. After a few more nigiri pieces and an aromatic soup of tofu, yuzu and chrysanthemum came the highlight of our dinner, a stone pot rice with female snow crab inside. The rice umami of this rice dish was so irresistible that even though I was pretty full by then, I felt compelled to ask for a second bowl. Even the tamago from Sushi Sonagi is not an ordinary egg custard, with miso butter that added an entirely different dimension to the dish. Getting a reservation at Sushi Sonagi, given its popularity in the LA dining scene and also limited seatings (the restaurant is only open Thursday through Saturday), will definitely require advance planning (plus $200 deposit per person, which will be fully refunded on the reservation day). Given that the reservation window opens 30 days prior at midnight Pacific Time, I was afraid I might miss the window but if you are able to wake up early Eastern Time the next day, most likely you will be able to snag a table. The modest and cozy setting of the counter gives a warm neighborhood restaurant vibe that belies the very high quality of dishes coming out of chef Daniel's hands. The restaurant does have a decent number of sakes and some limited wines on the beverage list; it also allows corkage for a fairly modest price of $45 / wine bottle so I brought a couple of champagnes from a wine shop in LA (I highly recommend Thatcher's Wine in Brentwood) to take advantage of the policy. At the end of the meal, we chatted for a bit with chef Daniel, who is a truly nice person that simply enjoys what he does and is eager to continue to improve upon his craft. I am so glad that there are still sushi restaurants out there that can wow us with an exceptional omakase meal and would gladly be back to visit Sushi Sonagi next time we are in LA.

My husband couldn't settle on just one dish, so he went all out with a chicken oyakodon, grilled salmon, steamed eggplant, and a stir-fried chicken and bean sprout dish. The restaurant itself is narrow and deep, which actually reminded me of some of the small alleyway restaurants we visited during our travels in Japan. It added to the cozy and authentic feel. The service was attentive, especially when we requested a few extra items. One thing that really stood out was their ponzu sauce. It seemed to include green onions and perhaps a touch of vinegar, and it was absolutely delicious. It paired perfectly with the sashimi, steamed eggplant, and even the chicken dishes. Next time, I'm definitely going to spend some time studying the menu beforehand. The portions were generous enough that we had leftovers for another meal, and we were lucky enough to find parking right in front of the restaurant.
