This place is right next to my work. It was very small inside but the food was freshly made for the most part. The tempura was delish and katsu chicken was good but a little dry must eat with the sauce. My coworkers teriyaki chicken was cold in the middle pieces and extremely hot on the top pieces. She said the bowls at jack in the box were way better. The combo plates were pricy but you get a big portion. The rolls the guest next to us ordered looked good. The owner/man walked up to the family next to us and picked up the siracha bottle and returned it back to the sauce station next to fountain drink machine. I thought was a little rude. But I understand he didn't want the big bottle taken. Its a little pricey so I won't be going there often. read more

So last night we had take away from ichiban. We had called ahead for hours of operation and if it was too late to order take out. They said they don't close til 8:30pm. So we went ahead and ordered. Got the food and went home. We checked our items. And specifically my tempura udon was disgusting. It's like the over boiled, soggy noodles from the bottom of the pot!!! Some were like shreds, shorts bits, scrap like...damn soggy! Terrible. And we're regulars there. Very disappointing. seemed like they rushed it. read more

If you're looking for a fast Teriyaki fix this is the place for it! I've ordered the Katsu combo meal before which came with a salad, tempura vegetables, and the chicken katsu with the sauce on the side. Definitely a bang for your bucks because the portion sizes are huge! I've also gotten the original Chicken Teriyaki bowl from here as well. I would hate to give a bad review but I must. The area seemed bad because all of the iron windows. I got there pretty early before noon and there was only a handful of people. By noon time, it was packed so this was a good sign business. I ordered two things, dragon roll and salmon bento box also water from the soda machine. Everything tasted great, I loved it. The food tasted fresh and they gave lots of it too. Then one hour later, it started to go down hill. I started to feel bloated, two hours later. I threw up. I had to drive home to San Jose and let one loose in Los Banos. So I got food poisoning. This is my first time ever to get food poisoning and it was a bad experience because I eat alot of Sushi and Salmon. I'm not sure what it was that day. If it was either the Dragon Roll or Salmon. Last time I was here years ago, I had the worst and rudest service ever. It was my last day of work and my coworkers wanted to take me out and I chose this place because I liked what I had during my first visit. There was a lot of us and we ordered and all I can recall was how rude the Asian lady at the register was to us because there were so many of us. We're giving you our business and all we got was rude service when we didn't do anything but order. I can still see her dirty looks as I was ordering in my head. I stopped by at 4pm for a chicken salad. Normally this place has decent food. I appreciate the steps theyve taken to post signs about masks being mandatory for patrons as well as the efforts taken to facilitate entry through front door, exit out the side door...great job. But sadly nobody preparing food was wearing a mask. The owner, the chef and expo...even a guy who walked in behind me and didnt have a mask on, who went right back into the kitchen area talking with the owner. Very irresponsible, yes, make sure the cashier wears a mask, make sure guests have masks...but put one on each of your kitchen staff too. read more

This place was just average. Definitely not a sit down and dine restaurant. It's almost like fast food for sushi. The bars on the windows outside can be intimidating. I ordered a rainbow roll which had good sushi but bad tasting rice. The rice had a sweet flavor and the seaweed was chewy. They do not have low sodium soy sauce. Get ready to be bloated! They only had Pepsi products and the diet was mixed badly. There was a pesky fly that kept landing on my food while I ate. Overall Sushi was ok and ambiance was poor. read more

I just had a meal here. Portions were large but unsatisfying. The fish tasted unfresh and the prices seemed higher than what was appropriate for a low end fast food restaurant. The rice tasted sweet- which is off putting. When I asked, they just shrugged as if they had no idea what I was talking about. Rolls were served with spicy mustard in a small solo cup- why this annoys me is that I'm paying the same (or more) for sushi rolls as an expensive sit down sushi restaurant in Fresno. Great place I visit when getting take out to eat at home. My husband loves the Ichiban roll (the sauce is great) and the chicken salad. The price of the food is fantastic and I have been satisfied with everything I've ordered. What else can you ask for? In particular, I really like the chicken teriyaki roll and will incorporate the leftover chicken into another meal at home. Is it the best sushi in Fresno? No, but it is a delicious bang-for-your-buck, the food is consistently good, and the service is really great. Great value. read more

First time going there, I was craving a Dragon roll. So we ordered: Katsu Chicken combo plate, Dragon roll & Cali roll. When presented with the ordered it looked and smelled delicious! Got home and sadly to say I was pretty much disappointed Dragon roll had spicy tuna in it, the Katsu chicken was dry and felt like I was chewing my meat forever long ( like rubber)!! The only the thing that was good was of course the Cali roll.... Sooo disappointed I don't know if I will return anytime soon.... But on the plus side the customer service was very friendly. I never heard about this place until a friend that goes to FPU (Fresno Pacific University) wanted to go here. She said it's popular with the students there, and I can see why- it's right around the corner from campus. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Katy G.'s review. Prices are too high considering the lack of ambience, presentation, service, etc. You walk in and it's basically a fast food restaurant in appearance and practice. You order at the counter, pick up your food in styrofoam containers, and everything else (drinks, sauces, napkins, etc.) are self-serve. Not that there's anything wrong with this (I actually prefer this model most of the time) but prices are no cheaper than at any full-service sit-down Japanese restaurant north of town, say Sushi and Pop, for example. The food is ok, not bad. Similar to most other restaurants of this type in town. I've had the grilled salmon dinner plate at around $11 or $12 and a sushi roll that was about $8 and both were "good." The owner and girl at the register were both nice and appeared happy to serve. Overall, I'd recommend it for take-out if you're in the area. I guess I'll go ahead and make the comparison again- it's like FPU's version of Sushi and Pop, minus the ambiance and sit-down qualities. read more

If you are looking for high end teppanyaki then you will be disappointed. However, what you will get is great food at a very reasonable price. I have been going to Ichiban since I was a freshman in college in 2001 at Fresno Pacific. It is right across the street. If you are on a tight budget you cannot go wrong with the teriyaki bowl [beef/chicken/combo]. But if you are hungry may I suggest the Chicken Katsu combination. This hearty meal will give you lightly breaded chicken breast, rice, vegetable tempura and side salad. They also have sushi, grilled salmon, shrimp and many other offerings. I have never been disappointed at Ichiban and the couple that runs that place are great and know me by my voice when I call in an order! read more
