I absolutely love this place. It is a very chic restaurant but you do not have to get too dressed up for it. The food is OUTSTANDING. It is Asian tapas which is completely unique to Huntington and everything that Mr. Ichiz creates is delicious. Some of my favorites are the curry, the sea bass, the volcano roll, French onion dumplings and the oyster shooters. The specials are always great too. The food at Ichiz is creative and delicious. I've eaten there about 10 times and have enjoyed it every time. Last night, I had the bibimbap for the first time. It was very good. When we arrived, we were told that we could sit at the bar (which was empty) and order food there. After sitting at the bar for over an hour, we were still not allowed to put in an order because it might upset the chef. There was 4 empty tables (with dishes that needed to be cleared for the entire time I was there). The restaurant was less than half full but they clearly could not handle the "crowd". The bartender was not helpful or apologetic and did not make it clear that we would not be allowed to put in an order. They definitely need more staff and better management. read more

So ended up going to this quaint place on a Wednesday night because it was only place that was open past 9 pm. Sat down & got the menu. The menu was so beautiful & sparkly. Ended ordering few things off the menu including a couple sushi rolls, tuna tartar & dumplings. Everything was AMAZING. So fresh & flavorful. The appearance of the food is so beautiful it makes you not want to eat it. Got lychee martinis to drink which were great, & some dessert to end which was perfect! This is my favorite restaurant, period! Ive been eating at Ichi's restaurant from his early days in Stony Brook, the food has always spoken for itself! The food is uniquely Ichi. The ambiance is chic, yet comfortable. Almost every sushi restaurant you can go to offers a tuna pizza, not only did ichi perfect it, but he had it on his menu over ten years ago! This is a gormet experience, make no mistake. Many of the delcious cococtions you can order here are HIS own inventions! And he is a master of good tastes. The staff are most accomodating, the selecetions in everything are unlike to will find anywhere else. This is all together a premium dining experience! If you're into dumplings, this is the place to go in Huntington. It has a huge menu with a lot of imaginative and tasty choices. Not in a dumpling mood? They have sushi, hot pots and quite a few other choices as well. The drinks aren't the same old, same old either. And the waitstaff is very helpful in guiding you through it all. It's an especially nice place to visit in the warm weather because they have a few tables in the courtyard out back. But it's terrific all year round. Ichi used to have a wonderful sushi restaurant in Setauket- we were heartbroken when he sold it. We finally made the trip to Huntington to his present establishment. What a treat! An imaginative Asian fusion menu - we limited ourselves to the soups - nobody does miso soup better- the dumplings, salad and Tuna Ichi, one of his signature dishes. Everything was magnificent. Great drinks menu, with a wide array of sake to try. Service, from our old friend Tata, was impeccable. I had read about Ichiz since moving back to Huntington in August and have been wanting to eat there, since the concept of tapas for Asian fusion food was intriguing. It works! Everything was excellent, except one dish (more later). We couldn't make the original reservation time and the staff was very accommodating in changing our time twice. The service was attentive but not intrusive (however, as the restaurant filled up, it slowed down appreciably). The calamari was really good, the short ribs were to die for (we ordered them twice), the sea bass wonderful and the other dishes were full of flavor and very satisfying. Which made the beef curry more of a disappointment. Although the curry sauce was among the best I have tasted, the three very small pieces of beef were outdone by the chunks of potato. Since this was the last dish we ordered, it didn't seem to fit in with quality and quantity of the other dishes. Our overall experience was very good and I would recommend Ichiz to anyone interested in trying out new flavors. read more

The service was terrible it was overpriced the food was OK at best the drinks were undrinkable they charge $20 for a mixed drink that should've been in a shot glass because it was so small the dumplings that they claim to be their claim to fame are no better than frozen dumplings found in Cosco actually Cosco ones are better, $15 for five small mediocre dumplings. did I mention the service was terrible because it was. There was also a weird smell inside the restaurant. We were in the restaurant with maybe 20 people and we have to share menus because it did not have enough to go around. We have been going to this great spot since it opened. We have given a ton of business over the years! However last night will be the LAST TIME. After finishing a very Expensive meal at a table up front, the 3 of us went up to the bar to have one more drink before we went home. It was 11:00 pm on a Saturday night in Huntington. There was still a table in back finishing up, and 2 more people at the bar, the place was not empty. I was told by Kevin the bartender in an obnoxious tone did I realize that they actually did want to go home. What? I actually thought he was kidding for a split second. Does he realize that 11pm on a Saturday night in Huntington is early? That there a ton of places in Huntington that will happily accept our patronage? He was quickly reprimanded by TaTa who I believe is part owner. But we left, and so did the other couple that was at the bar. As they walked out with us, they could not believe how I was spoken to and mentioned that they also wanted to have another drink, but then did not feel welcome. Wise up Kevin, I wish you many successes, but keep up that attitude and you won't have any and you will single handedly put Ichiz out of business !!! read more

I don't even know where to start, I guess I'll start with my drink. I got a Sidecar, which was killer, a little on the strong side but not overpowering. It worked really well with everything that we ordered at Ichiz. I've found the entire concept of Japanese/Asian fusion restaurants to be slightly passe, and unfortunately, is typically just a restaurant that serves a number of different cuisines. Ichiz, however, takes that stereotype and throws it out the window. There are some tried and true Japanese dishes like sushi rolls, but they have their own special take on it. Ichiz literally takes different cuisines and combines them into innovative and delicious dishes, prime example; beef chile dumplings. Then there was the spicy tuna tortilla, the cheese gnocchi, and several other incredible dishes. Go there! As often as you can! read more

the food at this place is great. i need to take away one star only because of the price. my hubby and i went for our every other week date night, last night, and were pleasantly surprised about everything that we ate. the dumpling selection is a bit overwhelming, but a few things popped off the menu immediately. we had the smoked duck dumplings, the pork and eggplant dumplings, a veggie dumpling, the bacon fried rice and a salmon carpaccio. it was all delish -- although next time i will skip the veggie dumpling, because at this price there is no need and i would have rather eaten something else. it was plenty of food for us big eating foodies and there were no left overs. the fellow diners were all regulars and the bartender and waitress were super nice. it even looked like the owners parents were eating there. i will definitely go back. cant imagine going wrong. read more

The dumplings are amazing! I was there recently for the third time and tried the artichoke spinach dumpling, which exceeded my expectations. I also love the buffalo chicken dumpling. The cocktails are equally as good, must try the watermelon cucumber margaritas. I love the modern lounge bar decor. This place is great! Friendly service too. read more

I went with a large party Friday night and we had the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. They told us they ran out water glasses and menus, it took 45 minutes to get drinks, and some of the small plates we ordered never arrived. All the food was delicious, but I don't think I'll take a chance going back. read more

Ichiz is a refreshingly unique and delicious Asian fusion restaurant-- gives me hope that Long Island might be crawling out of it's time-warp old-school Italian restaurant phase. I absolutely adore the menu here. A zillion types of dumplings...my favorite is the BBQ pork which is one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten, also the green bean, kale, and yes, French onion are all amazing. Had the ramen noodle bowl last night which was yummy and my friend really enjoyed her gluten-free noodle bowl as well. This is our favorite place in town! For the past 3 years- We go at least once a month! Ichez is our little secret that we tell everyone about. The bartender Kevin is wonderful- as is all the staff. We like to sit at the bar and order our small plates and cocktails. Our must haves are the seafood Bimbimbap and the Wasabi Shumai. Then we like to mix it up with dumplings (made fresh every morning) and sushi. Last summer they had a watermelon sangria and i am hoping to see it again on the menu soon. I LOVE this place. My favorite is the lychee martini, which is heaven, and the snails special. These are the best snails in town, which is saying a lot because I love Cassis. The Dragonfruit martini was like a taste of sunshine in a glass. The monster roll was delicious and did not skimp on the fish like most rolls at other places. The mojito was the perfect balance of mint, lime and rum. I also really like the french onion soup dumplings and the oysters. I almost hesitated to try this place based on the 9/10 post, but then realized the great NY Times review came out a week and a half earlier; my husband and I were in the bar/restaurant business for a long time and we've both seen firsthand how a new place can be suddenly overwhelmed! We went to Ichiz tonight and could not have had a more pleasant time. The music was smooth Brazilian bossa nova, the decor is a sleek mix of textures and colors, and the overall ambiance laid-back but sophisticated. Kevin the bartender (we like to sit at the bar) is engaged and funny, and did a great job. We shared the yummy oyster shooters, delicate gyoza, and the fantastically tender beef ribs - and already have the next round picked out for a future visit. So long as patrons realize the house staff is small, and the kitchen staff is even smaller, the experience will be great. read more

This place has, hands down, the most interesting menu in Huntington. It's also one of the few in this restaurant Mecca that can justify its prices. Four of us had a great meal - we had a little bit of everything - and were truly impressed. The service was great and kudos to the chef for being creative and getting it right. Drinks were good; really varying types of small plates, hot/cold...etc (will make it hard to decide) ....right down to dessert. The whole meal was good-to-excellent. Husband has been talking about this place for weeks. Finally tried it last night. The onion soup dumplings were by far the best thing i tasted so far. The shrimp & scallion and spicy beef were very good as well. Will return to taste more. I went to ichiz for the first time but my parents have been back multiple times since they first went. The service was great. I had the ichiz mule and it was a little too sweet but very good. Our table had the lobster, onion soup, shrimp and chive and chicken teriyaki dumplings as well as the veggie and seafood hotpot, oysters and the Greek salad. The seafood hotpot lacked a little flavor but was otherwise great and fresh. Would definitely go back because there are so many things to try.
