What a great looking bar- really beautifully restored and unique. It's great to see a large wooden structure like this in LA, the land of concrete. I only had one drink here, and it was good- the cosmo, really refreshing and much better than they normally taste. However, what was really special was the very drunk man who bought me and my friend our drinks. Middle aged man with ray ban clubmaster glasses and a fedora who, unprompted, told us he had so many stories we wouldn't even believe and said he wouldn't tell us but-ah- I'll give you just a taste. He proceeded to tell us wondrous tales of celebrity, drugs and business and ended it all with how much he loved us. I got a questionable kiss on the hand and he left to go to a business party which hopefully he got to and did not crash his brand new expensive car that he just bought. We took that as our cue to get out as well, and alas I did not have more than one drink at this cool bar. You guys charged me $2 extra for figs you didn't put on my hipster flatbread? Mannnnn. Look, guys... I bought bottomless mimosas that were premixed, drip coffee that was in a decanter, and figs on my damn flatbread. At the very LEAST I shouldn't have had to put up with attitude about asking for extra arugula and figs (or paying for them), having to wait 15 minutes for them, never getting my hipster cream for my coffee... But... Your weekend band was good, your food runners are kind, the vibe was calm, your bathrooms are clean, and that deep fried French toast was not terrible. 3 stars. Refused service because we had a baby with us. Dogs are allowed but not babies. I think there was more discrimination than that Looking on the website, Google and Yelp, it's not apparent that babies are not allowed. I must say the ambiance was great the inside was bigger that I thought! The service was okay! The server came just a few times until another server started serving us and bringing us our drinks.. the food was good but not the best & it should have came out all together. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich which was super delicious. We also ordered the fish and chips with onion rings instead... which was our mistake but we didn't know how Oily they were both going to be. The server should have mentioned that or at least suggested the regular fries would pair better! But our intentions were to eat everything together not separately. But hey the drinks were good and the place was cool. Probably come back for the drinks but not the food. It wasn't worth $100 for 2! read more

Came here for the first time since the remodel for my friend's surprise birthday party. The new look is awesome. It's very clean and modern. Inside feels like the inside of a barrel and outside is nice and shaded by trees and umbrellas. In the early evening a nice breeze will roll through too. The staff are all very friendly! It's a very laid back atmosphere. Utensils are in the bucket on the table, and the food comes out as its ready rather than all together. This is nice because the food is nice and hot. We had 8 people and the food all came out in a timely manner. Our waitress was Timbre! She was really sweet and friendly, she kept checking on us and was very accommodating with my order because I can be a picky mofo. The food portions are fair though I would say (and the table agreed) that the food is generally a dollar overpriced. Nothing crazy but the portion sizes are not big. (See the size of the meat patty on my burger in my picture. My friends was the same). Though I will add that the food was all delicious. We all enjoyed what we ordered. Brought some out of town friends here last night and they were just as excited about it as I was when I first went. Service could use some TLC, it's a bit slow and backwards that I have to open a tab if I am sitting and being served on the patio, but small tweaks would only just add to how great it is overall. read more

Had my bday celebration here with a group of about 20 people. We couldn't reserve a space so we pretty much had to scope out the patio and grab tables as they became available. (They had another party that reserved the back room on the same day as my event so that's why all I had left was first come, first serve). It didn't take too long to claim a space though. I love the ambiance of the back patio. They have lights that create a "summer dinner in the outdoors" kind of mood. We had a server that was pretty good about coming over to check on us. Drinks were good, food was okay. We all had a great time. What sucks is that they close down the patio section around midnight, so they told everyone they either had to go inside or leave. Most of us left but a few of us went inside to finish up our drinks. Inside, they have a photo machine where you take selfies and then email them to yourself, but be warned, only 10% of the photos you forward will actually go through. Parking is all street parking. Sometimes you'll get lucky and park nearby but it can get a little scary walking to Idle Hour if you park further. It's just really dark in some areas at night. Overall, a good time. read more

I usually don't do reviews, but my girlfriend told me that I should make one for this place because she truly enjoyed there brunch this past Sunday. We randomly saw on YELP that they had $15 bottomless Mimosas! So that of course gave us more then enough reasons to come out and see what was the deal. My girl and I usually share food so we just ordered a couple of things. The banana bread, French toast, and the breakfast hash! Everything was fantastic. From the outside this place didn't really look all that amazing(it's a barrel for god sakes), but the bar and kitchen both are really solid. The service was great and I'm for sure coming back to try more things in the near future! read more

This place had like 6 people working it was pretty empty the guy told us we could sit outside and they'd come to our table. No one came not even to offer water. I strongly recommend avoiding this place when they do actually do their job they are slow and if you think 2 white washed tacos are worth 12 dollars you're an idiot. read more

Caution: This is the first bar I've ever been to that doesn't allow babies or young children. There is a sign that says 21 and over only, which one of the annoyed employees pointed to when we tried to enter the establishment. I was under the impression that meant no serving to minors. Poor service and mediocre food and drinks. I REALLY want to like this place. It looks cool from the outside, the giant dog in the back yard is cool. And I live locally, so I can walk there. But I have been coming to Idle Hour since it opened a couple years ago and they know nothing about service, and they have not demonstrated any improvement, or even a desire to improve. Every time I go there, it takes a while for them to serve you... I order the SAME THING every time, but none of the bar tenders remembers my drink, my name, or even demonstrates a familiarity with my face. A good attitude and a smile are free, guys. (At Fat Dog down the street, the situation is completely different - they are awesome) Last night they over-charged me and I called them on it... and while they were giving me back my FOUR DOLLARS, they were explaining to me how I was wrong. Again... the service! My wife and I decided that this is the last straw, and we won't come here again. The drinks are too expensive for us to put up with their crappy service, bad attitudes and crappy food. I hope they read this and decide to improve how they run their business, but I doubt they will. read more

The really cool architecture of the building is the Idle Hour's only real appeal. Go to this bar if you want over priced beer and stuck up bouncers and servers who speak to people as if they're less than. No sense of humor to the point where you almost feel awkward talking to the workers. They act as if you should be kissing their feet that you have even been allowed inside their establishment. Worst customer service I have ever experienced in a bar setting. It sucks because my boyfriend and I live right down the street so it is a close walk, but I have given it so many chances and it seems that this hoity-toity place is not the place to be. Huge disappointment. Will never be returning. read more

Have been wanting to come here for a long time and finally did for a Harry Potter themed event that they were hosting. Knew the event would end up being busy so we came early and enjoyed happy hour on the patio for a couple of hours first. The patio is cute and spacious with a tree growing right in the middle. Lots of seating and very dog friendly. There are picnic style tables, normal tables, and a fire pit in the corner. They don't have specific dog bowls (so plan to bring your own if you come with dogs) but we forgot ours and our waiter was helpful enough to find something from the kitchen for us! Great pet friendly service! We ordered: - mule: something was a little off about it, maybe it just seemed off as it wasn't served in a copper mug. Couldn't put my finger on what didn't seem right about it. - beer: happy hour offers $2 off all beer and there is a fairly extensive list to choose from. - bbq chicken sliders: these were basic but had good flavor, especially if you put one of the fresh sliced jalapeños on top. - buffalo cauliflower: AMAZING! I have had buffalo cauliflower a number of places and this is what I always wanted it to be like. If you are looking for buffalo wings without the meat, this is exactly it! If, like me, you like wings just as they are but also just like cauliflower, it's also fantastic! We had to order another plate! - sloppy fries: these are like chili cheese fries, but with sloppy joe instead of chili. I personally prefer the flavor of chili but they were good nonetheless. - impressive benefits cocktail: this was absolutely delicious. Would order over and over again. Before the event, our service was great! Very attentive without being overbearing and everyone was extremely friendly. Food and drinks came out quickly and all of the food was hot and fresh. The Harry Potter event was great, but as it was the first year, I am not sure they had expected it to be as busy as it was and they were understaffed so service suffered. We ordered a couple of things that we didn't receive but were charged for anyway (would have taken another hour to get this corrected) and our poor server was so busy he was very hard to get ahold of to order anything else. I am not sure if this is normal for the bar when it gets busy or if it was just this event. Hopefully if they do it again, they will have more people working as it was a very fun event. read more
