Love idle hour! They've always been super cool, and their drinks have always been top notch!

Came here for brunch on a Sunday right when they opened and I had no problems getting a table. It gets busier at later times so come early if you can. I got the bottomless mimosas which were really good! The servers top you off so often that I never had an empty glass (FUN!!) I also ordered the breakfast biscuit sliders which were delicious! The atmosphere was great and I loved that part of the inside is outdoors. There's also a live band that plays around 1 pm so stick around and keep enjoying your mimosas! read more

Idle Hour is a nice addition to the NoHo nightlife scene. Located inside the historic barrel that once housed several iconic establishments, the bar and outdoor space was nicely and appropriately rehabbed by the 1933 Group into a space that is warm and welcoming. It's quite unique sitting in a building that is in the shape of a barrel with the slanted walls and all wood siding. The drinks here are the star of the show. Treat yourself to one of their specialty cocktails or one of their numerous beers on tap. The beer selection goes from hipster (think PBR) to unique and it's an honest pint. The menu looks like standard pub fare with a twist. The pretzel came with three sauces and they were divine and let me just say this is one buttery pretzel. On a Sunday evening this is relaxing, but can see it being hectic on a Friday or Saturday night so be mindful of the time of your visit. Parking is available either via valet or street. That area of NoHo doesn't have as big of a parking problem as say the Art's District, but definitely keep an eye out for the signs. As a fan of early 20th century programmatic architecture (like the old Brown Derby, Tail o' the Pup, Randy's Donuts, etc.) I have been excited to go to Idle Hour since I first heard the 1933 Group was going to rehab the landmark barrel building in my neighborhood of NoHo. Originally built in 1941 but abandoned for decades, the distinctive giant whiskey barrels have been restored to former glory, with gorgeous woodwork to admire throughout. Additionally, the Petersen Museum's replica of the old Bulldog Cafe, a Washington Blvd. fixture from the 1920s to the 1960s, was rescued from demolition and now resides on the back patio. The history alone makes this a must-visit spot in North Hollywood, but enough of the past, let's fast forward to the present. Aware of Idle Hour being the new, hot place to go since its opening a month or so ago (I have heard from friends that at peak hours, there is a line around the block to get in), my friends and I decided to go right at opening time, currently 5pm. It was a great time to come and ogle the gorgeous renovation without a crowd, no problem parking on the street right in front, no waiting, and we had our pick of all the tables. It was a lovely spring evening, so we chose to sit outside on the patio, which is rustic and comfortable with cozy benches and that adorable Bulldog watching over. Being a Saturday, the place still filled up to near capacity within an hour of our arrival. Our server, R.J., was excellent. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and on top of service from start to finish. I was trying to decide between a couple of their cocktails, and on R.J.'s recommendation, started with the Sentimental Lady ($10), an ebullient mix of gin, pamplemousse, lemon and soda. It was delightfully refreshing and not too sweet; if you like grapefruit, you will love this cocktail. I also tried their Mule ($10), which consists of Green Mark vodka, ginger, lime, and soda, also quite tasty. Both drinks were strong for me, I am a lightweight and probably could have stopped at one, but I was enjoying trying different things. My boyfriend kept ordering Amaretto Sours there (they are not on the drink menu but were made for $10). They were probably the best, smoothest version of this drink I have ever tasted, a significant improvement for what normally passes as an Amaretto Sour. For dinner, I ordered the Crispy Skin Salmon ($18). Arriving in a cast iron pan, the perfectly cooked salmon was served on top of a bed of leeks, fingerling potatoes, and capers. It was delectable, particularly the salt crusted, crispy salmon skin. My boyfriend enjoyed his cheeseburger and fries ($15), I also tried a bite of my friend's chicken sandwich with pesto ($13); they all seemed good, but I am definitely coming back for that salmon, and try some other items on the menu, like the roasted brussels sprouts ($8) and mac 'n' cheese with bacon and spinach ($8). I was too full for dessert, otherwise I would have loved to try the sweet potato gnocchi with candied pork belly and marshmallow ($10). Service was quick and cheerful the whole time. Even at the end, they had no problem splitting up the check for our party of 5. All in all, it was excellent experience, I found no fault--even the bathrooms are charming, with old timey fixtures and vintage photos of more examples of mimetic architecture. I was really impressed with our first time at Idle Hour, and am already planning my return to try more of their offerings in food and drink. Went to the Sunday Brunch and had bottomless mimosas. Food was inconsistently tasty/gross and service was horrible: Fries for the table were crispy, fries served with burgers were over-cooked and hard. French Toast-2 of the 4 pieces were perfectly cooked with crispy edges and fluffy inside, 2 were undercooked and soggy. Steak and eggs-cold sunny side up(no choice given) eggs with runny whites on top. Steak was perfectly cooked with tasty herbed butter. The brisket/grits were very good Our server kept spilling mimosa on the table, took 10 mins to get us new napkins/forks, only gave us one order of cornbread (when we ordered two) she didn't take our order for food until about 30 mins after we arrived...and kept walking away as more people from our table tried to order...we were a table of 8 and she tried to walk away after 3 orders... Also, I saw several servers take food to the wrong tables...like 5 or 6 times in the hour and a half we were there. The guys clearing the dishes from the table were good, but that's about all I can compliment service-wise. I want to give this place another try...but I'm not sure I'm going to. read more

The place is a trendy hot spot in noho, and has a super cute exterior barrel entrance. Street parking only. They've changed their menu a few times, but thank god they've kept their Mac and cheese on the menu because that is the ISH! So creamy and with the panko crunchy crust and bacon bits omg I can't. It's by far the best thing on the menu. Brussel sprouts are also super good! Their spicy watermelon gin cocktail is delish and actually pretty spicy. I can put tajin on anything. Also had the top of the mountain drink, good as well. The mango rum cocktail was too sweet for me. It gets pretty busy at night, but the company is good and they keep you cozy with heaters outside. Got a Lyft here , They asked us for how many I said 6 he said "okay" once our party entire party arrived he then told us the entire place was booked. Claiming it was reserved when the entire restaurant was empty. They then sit another party that arrived after us. Also without a reservation I might add. You (re) build it....they will come. I have lived right down the street from this place for over 20 years. This historic venue has been boarded up and gated for longer than that. Always, always, always wanted it to reopen, and it finally has. Very excited to have come in the first week of its opening. Beautifully re-done. Inside is a tasteful homage (in pictures) to the original owners and how it all used to look. Staff is very nice, and the menu items I tried so far (cider and pretzels) were very good). Plan on going back to sample the Mac n Cheese, as that's something I sort of have to do, like a moth to a flame. read more

I had a few hours to kill so I Yelped and found this little place. I stopped in to have a few drinks and a little food before a beauty appointment. As I walked up I liked the tiki hut look, which is carried out all the way through. I ordered an Old Fashion and burger, both of which is on their Happy Hour menu. I waited for my drink and then when to the patio - I have a vapor pen and do no presume everywhere will let me smoke it inside. DRINK: The Old Fashion was ok. Not the best or worse I have had. Order a bourbon clean afterwards. The bartender was right, very smooth. FOOD: Not sure about this...the fries where good, I like the seasoning they used. The burger was ok but I would not order it again. The wings, which someone else ordered, looked amazing and I plan to try those when I return. VIBE: Well I was in at 3pm; so it was quite but active. Since I was on the patio, it was very quiet and they turned on the mist fans which made things better given the heat. Will I return? Yes! read more

We stopped by while in the area and gave Idle a try. Not knowing the history of the place before hand and then seeing the cool architecture and the patio was a surprise to us. We just wanted to go somewhere and have a nice drink. The patio area is definitely the place to be. We caught the end of HH so we went with a Mule and an Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned was great but unfortunately the Mule wasn't. Just all Ginger beer and cheap vodka without any lime juice. Since this was a killer for the wife, we only stayed for one round. Cool Happy Hour, on the weekends too. I went to visit a friend in the area and we decided to take her baby for a walk. That ended at a bar. Ha. Hi-fives to the sweet hostess who didn't get mad when we let my friend's daughter wander around as we were drinking (it's not as terrible as it sounds, I swear.) She definitely took a liking to the hostess and kept waddling up to the stand, haha. She also loved the house made pickles and the pickled veggies, as did we. Only $3 for each during HH. We would've stayed longer but again, we had a toddler so we had to get out of there before it turned to the 21 and up only crowd. Three drinks and two sides for less than $30. I have passed Idle Hour for years and never went in. I always thought it was a trendy night club. However, my friend and I went in last week and loved it. It had a wonderful patio. Very helpful and friendly staff. I.had some strawberry drink that wow. I asked the bartender for a rec for a sweet drink. He was spot on. It was so good and I wanted more. Tasted like a Sour Patch Kid. My friend had an Old Fashion also perfect. We were quite impressed and already going back tomorrow. read more

Not coming back Like many I thought this place was adorable and wanted to try it. I had already read mixed reviews but I figured it wouldn't be that bad.... First off I came on a Saturday at 6pm for dinner with a party of 6. Drinks took a long time to come to the table. My step dad had to reorder his drink because they forgot as well as my brother reordering his because it was taking so long. I asked for water and it took 10minutes. My brother ordered a tequila and orange juice that was mostly juice and not enough tequila. Tasted ok but not worth the price. Food I guess took a reasonable amount of time to get to the table. We ordered 2 entrees, the Mac and cheese and a salad. I ordered The Bird burger with egg. They forgot my egg so gave it to me on the side. The patty was ok I think a bit seasoned or it needed a sauce I'm not sure. The waitress took long periods of time to bring things to the table. She didn't clear the table of our plates of appetizers until we already received our food? Backwards. The table felt cluttered with the dirty dishes. I just didn't have a good dining experience. Cool neighborhood bar in NoHo. The architecture just pleaded for me and my hubby to come on in. Cool interior, nice patio. Patio has a fire pit which will be great during the fall and winter. Because of the heat, we quickly changed our minds and sat inside. Feels like you are sitting inside a barrel! Vintage pics on the walls tell the story of the building. This will be a great spot to bring out of towners. Extremely surprised that a place like this didn't offer happy hour, but the waitress assured us it was coming soon. Ordered a glass of wine from their extremely limited selection, but they were out. Figures. So ordered the Southern Belle. The drinks are small and a bit pricey, range around $10-$12. However they do have good combos (beer and shot of tequila) for the same price. Ordered the Mac and Cheese, which came out in a timely manner. It was delicious! The menu looked pretty decent and a lot of items that you won't find in a many bars. Will try again once they bring a happy hour menu. read more

This is my new favorite bar in NoHo! Happy Hour seven days a week, a beautiful outdoor seating area, a fire pit, and tasty apps? Count me in! The vibe here is really laid back in the best way. We had a great time relaxing by the fire pit while sharing a pretzel and chicken sliders (both were very tasty). Our server was attentive and friendly. Afternoon drinking at its finest! First, the ambiance is fantastic. I couldn't say enough about how unique and artsy it is, and the music is so chill. Everyone was so welcoming when we first arrived. The backyard patio section is so alluring, we must come back for the bonfire! We ordered happy hour appetizers and fantastic handmade cocktails. This place has been amazing ever since they revitalized it. This particular review is about how great it is to have a place that requires proof of vaccination to get in. Going out for a drink obviously hasn't been easy during Covid so it's nice to find a place where I can comfortably be reminded of the importance of friendship. I felt like I was back in time. So get dressed, cue up a picture of your vaccine card, and remember what it's like to party without spending the next two weeks checking your temperature every time you sneeze. read more

Let's talk about Idle Hour brunch. This year they've changed chefs, tweaked the menu a few times, and the new brunch menu misses the mark by a couple feet. The brunch burger is good if you want a burger, the sad excuse for chicken and waffles is gone so that's good, but just missing a couple brunch staples. The ambiance is still there, the band is still fun, the staff is ok, some better than others. Sadly my boy Evan has moved on from Idle Hour, and he was honestly the reason for one more star. I wish I could give a 3.5, because I would. I love Idle hour, brunch or not, but the reason for 3 stars is based solely on food, it's just not that great. I've been back and will go back again, but not when I'm craving really good brunch food. Bottom line if you want mimosas and fun, great place for brunch. If you want to enjoy your food probably better to go elsewhere. read more

I appreciate the Location and esthetic, however things usually flatlined with the customer service. ALEX changed my outlook on Idle hour. He's personable, honest, and down to earth. New favorite spot! Been there 3 times during their first week open and I am hooked. Food is delicious too, go order everything. Esp the wings with BBQ sauce! Greeted by Jeff at the door - he remembered the names of the people in our group when we visited our 2nd time, a very nice touch. Staff is inviting and warm. Chatted a bit with the GM also named Jeff, great hospitality. Background music is set to awesome - Zeppelin / Black Keys / old Kings of Leon / some jazz. Came here for drinks on Sunday and saw they serve brunch, so we decided to also get food. This place is charming. It's a good cocktail bar. Brunch is good. I can't comment on the rest of the food menu. There is a patio in the back. They have live bands and misters so you can stay out there and enjoy some music without cooking yourself. Our bartender was David and he was friendly and professional. Everyone else seemed really nice as well; from the bar backs to the bussers to the hostess. If you're looking for a chill place to have drinks with friends or grab a quick bite to eat, come to this giant barrel. They have a lot to offer. read more
