The place is indeed small and cramped - the kitchen is right off the main door, and basically a 24/7 diner. The 'big' IHOP is up the road. If you want more breathing room, go to the other one on Ventura, but the menu is the same, so there ya go. The food is always good here. They must have very good cooks. The service is always good too, the wait staff is friendly and that goes a long ways. What I really don't like is having to wait to get seated, and the cramped feeling. It's too small. I only go there a couple times a year, and usually go to either other IHOPs or Denny's or Norm's. The reason I do go to this particular location is because they had free $10 off coupons with no expiration date on Restaurant.com in 2013. Buy $20 worth of food, get $10 off. read more

We love iHop! However this ihop is the worst I have visited! I should have seen that service was horrible from the minute we walked in.... I overheard the girl in the front telling a server that they had a gentleman outside in the patio area waiting for at least 10 min...! We were seated right away so my opinion changed for a minute until our server showed up!!! She looked angry we gave her our drink order 2 coffees 1 grinch hot chocolate!! Well the coffees were cold the hot chocolate was boiling hot... One of the coffee cups had lipstick on it , well I brought it up to her attention and said very politely the cup is dirty it has lipstick she looked very confused questioned me and walked away she came back irritated and my baby didn't get a drink good thing I had his milk.. next was our food order... uuugh that took for ever people that were seated after us got their food before us and to make things worst the food was COLD!!! At this point I'm irritated didn't enjoy my meal and it was pointless telling the server that the food was cold!! The entire time we were there she didn't even check on us to see how everything was. We were staying at the nearby Courtyard Marriott in Sherman Oaks. The high prices charged by the hotel restaurant was a deciding factor in us walking down Ventura Blvd for breakfast. The IHOP was just a few blocks down and had a parking lot for those inclined to drive. It wasn't very busy when we arrived about 0715 hours on a Friday morning. Our server was Jesus V and he was attentive and cordial. Before I mention the food, I did want to remark on the excellent service by Jesus. He will eventually move on to classier restaurant that demands the quality service shown by Jesus. We both ordered the senior special for $7.49/ea. I had the 2x2x2 which consisted of two fluffy pancakes, two over easy eggs, and a couple of crispy bacon (I had originally ordered sausages, but bacon is okay). This was well-prepared and a better value than similar meals from other breakfast places. The other order was a french toast consisting of 3 whole pieces of bread cut in half. The bread was thick and was also an excellent breakfast item. An assortment of different flavor syrups were available along with sugarless syrup. Some IHOPs are company owned, but most are franchises. We've been to several IHOPs in the SF Bay Area and they are poorly operated. This IHOP in Encino is well-managed and provides an excellent value for the price. read more

We come to this IHOP very frequently bc my child likes their food. But today his waffle was soft & cold like a sponge so I told the sever Alicia to change it for us. In response to my request, the sever rolled her eyes, started arguing with me, telling me nothing was wrong with the waffles. It escalated as I asked for the manager so she eventually reluctantly took the dish back to the kitchen. The manager never came to our table. The server only came to the table twice even though the restaurant is empty for the most part. So dirty dishes just sitting on the table and she does not clean up. Alicia is just standing there frozen! IHOP manager & owner: please train your staff NOT to rolls their eyes, NOR argue back with customer, and clean up tables!!! I remember growing up and it was called the International House of Pancakes only. There wasn't an official or unofficial acronym. And they all looked like this location -- Alpine-looking thin chateaus with high pointy red roofs. Ah, now back to modern day. I was doing my daily work commute and in my journey between the 101 freeway and Sepulveda Pass, I decided breakfast was in order. I skipped the usual Corner Bakery for IHOP. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, though they felt a bit understaffed. The restaurant was fairly busy for a weekday, almost every table was full. The waiter was quick and responded to my requests. The order was comparable to the IHOP in the west Valley I normally go to on occasion. I ordered the health-focused 2x2x2 -- two pancakes, two turkey bacon strips and two egg substitutes. The waiter even commented -- healthy breakfast! -- when I ordered. Food came out quickly and I devoured it before getting on my way. I like that they leave a big pot of coffee on your table so you're not asking for refills all the time. I've only been here twice, but yelp has seen fit to deem me a regular. That's good enough for me. What can I say about IHOP? I think it may be worth noting that they might possibly be operating under a more recognizable acronym than NASA, but I'm not sure why. It's also probably not true. It might be, though. Er, anyway... I wouldn't say this place is good. I wouldn't even say it's okay. The food is very, for lack of a better word, generic. But does that make it bad? No. In fact, I rather enjoy breakfast places like this. I remember IHOP back when I was little when they used to give the kids those weird rubber pancake-people toys. The promise of the chocolate chip happy face pancakes was my grandmother's clever way of getting me to go to church with her every week. She also promised me doughnuts and movies. I'm not sure why I'm comfortable admitting this in public, or furthermore why I find it necessary, but there you are. The point is, sometimes "bad" food is actually good food. You're either going to understand that, or you're not... and you're only going to understand it if you agree. Karl Pilkington put it best, I think, when he said that he's glad he doesn't have fancy stuff all the time, because if he did, he wouldn't be able to appreciate the non-fancy stuff. I actually think that's true, like so many things the great philosopher Pilkington says, in general. We're not all Gwyneth Paltrow, gagging at the thought of feeding her daughter Cherry, or Pear, or whatever that poor kid's name is, cup o' noodles. I say she's a poor kid, because cup o' noodles are delicious. The day I was old enough to realize chicken flavored actually meant "THIS HAS CHICKEN IN IT" was a dark day in my life. Happily, though, I can still gorge myself on relatively cheap pancakes, hash browns, and tea at my friendly neighborhood IHOP. The servers have always been really friendly, the food always comes fast, and it's consistently tasty. That's kind of all I could hope to get from a restaurant, right? Impressive. Most iHops are generally just okay from my past experience, but this place was very good from parking to ordering, to eating, to leaving. Parking can be a nightmare since it is a small lot and they share it with a busy AutoShop, however, we got fortunate and got a spot up front. Employees are all friendly. We were seated immediately and our server came immediately. Ordering our food was easy. Our food came to us in less than 10mins and all the ingredients were so fresh and yummy. The server came out at least 3-4 our entire sitting. Even though they were extremely busy (almost every table was occupied) we were seated immediately, our food came out less than 10 minutes and our server was able to attend to us often. And our food tasted great, better than any other iHop i have visited. Minus 1-star because the dining room is so small and all the tables and chairs are crunched together. If you're not in a booth, the other parties/tables are practically conjoined to your table that they can hear your conversation clearly and you can hear theirs clearly. Of course, this is an IHOP so my expectations were not high. Went with my fiance and his son...we all should have just gone with what IHOP is known for, but we didn't. I got a breakfast sandwich with veggies on it and the veggies seemed like they had been left in the saute pan for an hour. They were incredibly soggy and had zero flavor. The sandwich ordered by his son was just as bad, the bread was hard and the ham was chewy it was so overcooked. And my fiance, the burger he got...it was the worst burger I've ever tasted in my life. The burger was cooked for so long that it actually hurt to eat it. His jaw was aching 1/2 way through and then he just gave up. Then we got our bill. $50 we ended up spending. The service was good so we were not about to not tip the waiter, but $50 for some of the worst food I've ever had? Just sad. So much of it was our fault, we could have gone to several other restaurants who we knew would be delicious and would have paid significantly less...but for a couple of different reasons we ended up at IHOP. We did contact the corporate office, we wanted at least a refund for the burger. We should have delt with it at the restaurant but decided to contact them later in the day. They ended up putting us in touch with the manager of the location but after a missed call we never heard back from him again. Long story short, if you end up at IHOP (highly suggest going to the local mom and pop diners instead), be prepared to spend a lot of money and stick with what they are in business for, simple breakfast. read more

I love going there the service is always great and the food is on point. But today the service was not good at all. It started with the drinks I ordered coffee and water got coffee no water. On my order I ordered crepes and when the server brought the food there was no crepes and my companion had to ask more than once for them once server brought them I opened them and it wasn't what I ordered also we ordered tea and they couldn't find a "pot" for it. The whole situation was starting to feel very uncomfortable then when I asked server to take the crepes from the table and remove them from the receipt, since I didn't eat them it wasn't removed from receipt. I use to go this IHOP when I was younger with my family and had some pretty good memories here, however coming back now wasn't so great. I came in at 5:04am and there was maybe one other person. When I walked in I politely asked the server if they were open cause I wasn't to sure if they were cleaning and he said, "we are open 24/7" and it sounded sarcastic(maybe he was tired). I ask if I can sit at a booth and he replied anywhere is fine. As I sit, no one came to me or even hand me a menu for that matter. However I decided to patiently wait for 25-30 minutes and looked over my shoulder 4 times to see them talking amongst themselves. Then he spent a good minute with another customer when he paid for his meal. If it takes this long when no one is here I can't imagine how it is when it's busy read more

I blame management for this. How you can operate and run a damn business with one host/server and one chef !!!! It's sad and ridiculous.
