Looks like he was the bartender - bar did have people too. Took awhile to get some food going as well, but we did eventually. Staff was friendly, so other than the waiting, it was a great time. Sherman Oaks is gritty and the section of Ventura Boulevard that houses TLP is almost brutalist in its anti-establishment aesthetic. You would never know it was here if you didn't either live in the neighborhood or seek it out as I did. It is sandwiched between a completely non-descript place that I didn't even look at and a crystals shop with grafitti-etched windows (unfortunately!) but some really cool beads. Inside is the same -- no frills, a dress-down and survive-if-you-dare vibe. My pictures will illustrate what I mean. Nevertheless, the friendly service (shout out to our server, Patrick), the menu, and the quality of the food are well worth it. Again, see what we ordered in the photos attached. Everything was delicious. The floor, tables, and chairs were all clean. There is some kind of post-apocalypse rhumba going on with the ceiling treatment. It is almost reverse-logic art with all the shading (stains? velour movement?) and utilitarian installation it reveals. Love the walls though, and the worn distressed wood everywhere (see the pix, folks). A bonus was watching the Masters (Patrick let us linger) and sitting by a giant window that was open to the street. Parking is up a block or so on either side. We always find safe spots in Sherman Oaks. The music seemed to be one CD of an unknown (to me) vocal artist and was pleasant. The crowd was friendly and the whole atmosphere was like one big homey grunge party. You know those mornings you fall out of bed and almost don't want to change out of your pajamas or yoga threds? Completely unacceptable, especially from a place I've trusted and ordered from often. What made it worse was how this was handled. I called to let them know, expecting at least some level of concern or basic customer service. Instead, I spoke with the manager, Louis, who was incredibly rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. He talked over me the entire time, showed zero accountability, and told me there was nothing he could do--not even a small credit or partial refund (I wasn't even asking for much, just $15 as a gesture). The complete lack of concern for both food quality and customer experience is really disappointing. It's one thing to make a mistake-things happen. But the way this was handled guarantees I won't be coming back. Really unfortunate, because this used to be one of my go-to spots.

USA! USA!" gave me goosebumps. It was one of the most compelling sports moments I've ever experienced. Everything up to that point had been absolutely fine- we had good interactions with all the staff, we loved our waitress, and there were no issues whatsoever, so we were completely caught off guard and shocked by this. Mind you, not one person had ever come up to us with the bill or asking if we were ready for the check. I told him that, and he was being completely dismissive, not even looking me in the eye and literally shooing us out with his hand gestures. I told him that we had ordered a lot and they would be missing out on our bill, and he said "just go and don't come back". The only reason I can think of him doing this is because there were a bunch of people waiting for tables, and they probably had too many reservations booked that they couldn't seat on time due to their own negligence and poor management. I have never left a restaurant without paying the bill and tipping at least 20%. Moreover, I have never had any issues in general or been kicked out from any business before in my life. I went to the hostess stand to ask for my waitress so I could tip her, and the owner came up to me and told me I need to leave again. Thankfully I found the waitress on my way out and was able to give her some cash before leaving, as I would have felt so bad if she didn't get anything. Know that if you order a double, you can choose two flavors instead of one. We opted for the root beer bbq and the honey chipotle and they were delicious! Everything was cooked to perfection!
