Overall: just OK, not great. I was really excited to try Il Pastaio based on the mouthwatering photos online, but the meal didn't land for me. I was hoping for authentic, crave-worthy Italian pasta, but ultimately left feeling underwhelmed, and the dishes leaned overly-salted. The pumpkin ravioli was the standout and the best thing we ordered. Unfortunately, the bucatini with meatballs and the veal were forgettably mediocre and not dishes I'd return for. We also ordered three dishes to be paced out one after the other, which we clearly asked for upon ordering, yet all three arrived at the exact same time. It totally threw off the cadence of the evening receiving everything at once like a fast-casual pit stop, and ultimately left our food cool on the table. To top it off, my drink was forgotten entirely. Really nice server, but since we went on Valentine's day, service was pretty slow. We liked most of the food, but it was hit and miss. We were sat outside which was unfortunate as it was a SUPER hot day but at least it was shaded. It was definitely a place to be seen more than a place to be eating. It probably has to do with my aversion to Italian food. We ordered calamari to share. Then I ordered the black and white pasta with clams. The clams were a little fishy for my taste which I think is a bad sign of not so fresh clams. I asked to move to the opposite side of the patio, where it was bright and sunny. I used to live in Beverly Hills and was feeling so happy to be back visiting, but this experience really spoiled the mood. The food itself wasn't bad, but the treatment left a bitter taste. My husband and I weren't doing anything unusual, so it was hard not to feel like this was discrimination. Partway through, our server changed and the new one was kind, but by then it was too late. This was my first time eating at this restaurant on a very quick trip to LA. I will say, this is a very popular restaurant, so definitely try to make a reservation if you can. It definitely has an authentic feel and you can tell the pasta is homemade. The restaurant itself is quite small, so they have seating on the street which was interesting. The service was good. We would at times find our self looking for our server, whom seem to be quite busy so it's understandable. I definitely loved his accent though. For starters, we had the Caprese, calamari, and a Caesar salad. The Caprese was pretty subtle, but I appreciated the freshness of it, and the fact that it wasn't so heavy, the calamari was mediocre in my opinion, but I also am never really impressed by calamari... it wasn't anything to write home about. The Caesar salad was pretty straightforward and a good salad. The dressing was quite garlicky which I liked. For entrées we had the Arrabbiata pasta, agnolotti, and the truffle pasta. They were all very good. I was quite impressed with the truffle pasta noodles themselves. You can tell they were homemade they had such a lovely texture and a good bite to them. It was a very delicate cream sauce with a hint of truffle, and then of course, garnished with truffle, if you so choose. It was not overwhelming by any means. The agnolotti was quite rich, and had a subtle truffle flavor as well. I almost wish it had a different depth of flavor. I found myself gravitating, mostly towards the Arrabbiata pasta as a palate cleanser. The traditional spicy tomato sauce really was delightful. The agnolotti is quite a popular dish and I can understand the appeal. Too much of the same thing for me though, but glad I tried it. For desserts, we had the tiramisu, chocolate cake, Panna, cotta, and the torta Limone. Not gonna lie, the desserts were kind of a mess for us but we each enjoyed a different one, lol. I especially liked the Panna cotta with the raspberry sauce. It was quite light and delicious. The torta Limone reminded me of a lemon bar, but had a weird twang. In my opinion. The tiramisu was pretty straightforward, simply executed, and tasted like what a tiramisu should taste like. It was also beautiful to look at. I think the chocolate cake was a mess for everybody... It was honestly rock hard. I actually didn't even eat it because my spoon would not go through it. We each had a beverage, and I must say the Balenie was delicious. Not super sweet, but the bubbles were quite refreshing. All in all, we spent a little over $300 which seems to be fair for the area. Came here on a Tuesday night and having to wait for 15 mins for a table tell you how popular this place can be! It is a high end Italian restaurant right in the middle of Beverly Hills. Our friend is a regular here so he took care of the ordering. We ordered seafood tomato based soup, lobster linguine, T-bone and Filet mignon, lentils and shrimp salad, and many more. Everything is so delicious and with the right portion so you don't feel stuffed after trying different dishes. The desserts are a must too! My group got lucky with street parking, but there is also a structure nearby as well. I could see it getting busy and being really difficult to find parking in this area during peak times, but it's LA. The ambiance felt upscale yet cozy, it would definitely be a good date night spot. Took 20 minutes to get water and another 20 for cocktails. The peach martini was very strong but the Negroni was well balanced. Ordered appetizers but our server forgot to place it with the kitchen. Came 2 minutes before the entrees. The risotto with black truffles was excellent and so were the 'Justin Beiber' pasta and the chicken Milanese. The Panna cotta we had for dessert was delicious.
