Our first time eating at Il Pastaio, though we've eaten at any number of other restaurants in the Drago universe and always have a good meal. Like all the other D-family outposts, Il Pastaio is busy and buzzy, well organized by a friendly staff, and utterly professional in all respects. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The carefully manicured decor is low-key elegant on the inside, but the bulk of the seating here is outside, with tables lining both sides of the corner property, creating the feel of a cafe in Paris or Rome.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our own waiter was friendly as could be, though occasionally a bit more MIA than I would have liked. Little extra requests like butter for the bread or a 2nd soft drink were left unanswered for a bit. Yes, it was a busy Sunday dinner rush, so I'm not really complaining, but it was a tad frustrating. We opted out of starters because we'd seen a dessert we wanted to order, so we went straight for entrees: Garganelli with Broccoli and Sausage for me, and the Tortelloni Di Zucca for my wife. My garganelli was perfectly cooked, with a nice, very slight al dente bite; the sausage had a nice hit of heat, though the broccoli was overdone and a bit mushy. The sauce of garlic and oil was not as flavor-forward as I've had in the past with other iterations of this dish. So, while I didn't dislike my meal, it was definitely underwhelming. My wife's Tortelloni was, to my mind, more successful. Again, the pasta was fresh and nicely cooked, but here the filling was more interestingly flavored, with the pumpkin and ricotta blend being more savory than sweet (a nice change), and the sauce of butter & sage adding an extra level of savory richness. The aforementioned dessert -- the daily special of Orange Ricotta Cheesecake -- was light and very subtly flavored, without being too sweet. It was enjoyable, but could have used, again, a more robust flavor profile, be it the citrus or the cheese... it was just, in the end, a bit too mild. Overall, we were surprised, as the menu is similar to other Drago locations, but we're used to being served meals that are much more memorably flavored. That said, while the food was essentially fine, I wouldn't race back for another meal at this particular venue.
There are restaurants in all the big cities in which I have lived that represent longevity, image-power, popularity, and tradition. And, there is usually a good reason for their stardom. While I am a big fan of evolved dishes that are novel and fresh, I have always loved old fashioned, genuine (as in the way they are made in the Old Country) Italian food. Il Pastaio does not disappoint in that respect. I have spent enough time all over Italy, and am part Italian myself, to judge this place a must-try in Los Angeles. We rarely venture into Beverly Hills given what used to be a difficult parking situation. Not with Il Pastaio -- there is free public garage parking almost across the street. If you visit on a Sunday afternoon, you will find a spot effortlessly and you will avoid the crowds. [[HIGHLIGHT]]That said, when we arrived around 1:30, Il Pastaio was packed, inside and out. Thankfully we had a reservation and they ushered us to the perfect table, inside (where I preferred to be on a sunny, cool but windy day), next to a bright (and spotless) window.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I think there are people who prefer to be on the sidewalk in BH, so they can look for the cognoscenti and affluenti, LOL, but, I don't need to do that -- seen and been seen enough in my long life! Our table was perfect. View my photos. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the vibe inside. Again, I can happily report, Il Pastaio reminds me of all the fine, small, and exquisite restaurants I frequented in Rome, Florence, and Milan, to name the biggies[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The menu is extensive, and even though I had studied it beforehand on their website, it took me at least ten minutes to narrow down all the wonderful vegetarian dishes from which to choose. My photos show which were the lucky winners. There are meat dishes in abundance but, here's the open secret, Italians themselves are not avid meat eaters and all the portions abroad are small, hence multiple courses and few people eat too much at a meal. Lunch and dinner are also leisurely over there because Europeans see a meal as an event, not a blip in their day. The service was flawless, with our Italian waiter, Filippo, treating us as if we were Re Umberto and Regina Margherita. The table was very pretty and there was bespoke olive oil and vinegar ready for dipping the homemade bread that is served steaming in a napkined basket. I could smell it through the entire meal. Even the water came from Italy. Each course we chose came to the table at the perfect temperature, beautifully plated, and the previous were whisked away efficiently as soon as we were finished, as if by magic. All in all, this is a superb Italian restaurant. Fresh and new but traditional and comforting in its familiarity. I know we will return. Molto ben fatto, Signore Drago!
The food here is excellent; quality Italian food with good portions and great flavor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is nice even the outdoors is pretty and they have heat lamps to take out the chill.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My reason for the three stars was the service. We did choose a later reservation time but I wish they just didn't have the reservation if they don't want to be there late. It took 25 minutes after us sitting for a server to ask what we wanted to drink. It was not busy maybe three other tables outdoor only the inside was closed. When our waiter was at the table he was annoyed at our questions regarding the tasting menu. It really made us feel awkward and dampered our whole experience which was really unfortunate because we loved the food and it was our last night in LA. I'd say make an earlier reservation maybe to receive better service. Also the espresso martini was disappointing it had ice and was very watered down. I'll end on a positive note that the Branzino was amazing. Everything on the dish tasted fresh. The burrata was also a hit for the whole table
Amazing first experience this past Sunday! 11/10 on the service and quality of food. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Our cocktails were also super yum - highly recommend a gin gimlet. My raviolis were to die for along with the appetizers we had. We had a party of 10 and they made it so special for my friend's birthday! Thank you to the great staff, ambiance and chefs!
[[HIGHLIGHT]]So right off the bat, we got a nice outdoor seat, and the place was pretty cute, but not as high class as I was expecting it to be but idk.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waiter was really nice and we got our drinks out to us Really fast. The charcuterie board was absolutely amazing. It looks as good as it tastes like wowwwww it was amazing absolutely amazing. However our actual pastas did take a long time to come out honestly and they were good I won't say it was bad. The Justin Bieber pasta was really good, but I felt like the sauce was kind of missing something maybe like a spice or something like that and the thickness of the dough kind of overpowered the actual taste. I got the Bolognese and it was pretty good. Just a standard Bolognese, but I think the pasta was really fresh tasting, and the waiter did not skim out on the parm haha overall nice I would come back for a lunch!!

Came here for a friends birthday. In terms of ambience, it's very charming and fancy. A great place for pictures on a dinner night. The service... wasn't really there. It took an hour for our waiter to take our order and even then trying to get someone's attention took a lot of effort. After we ordered it took a long time to get our food. We were sat right in the middle of the inside restaurant so it's not like we were in a hidden area. We were there till closing because of how long we had to wait. It's really disappointing because I was looking forward to this place. However the food is tasty. I wouldn't say amazing, but it's well prepared pasta. A bunch of us got the "Justin Bieber Pasta" basically the one he orders when he comes here so they named it after him. It's okay, more on the salty and bitter side. I don't think we would order it again. Their truffle pasta is great though. It was done very well, and the pasta itself felt like such high quality. The pricing is on the higher side for the truffle pastas, but it is rich in terms truffle. I'd say it's worth a try.
Located in the heart of Beverly Hills, Il Pastaio is a terrific Italian restaurant that is always packed with guests. You definitely need a reservation here if you come on the weekend for dinner. You'll see all the people on the sidewalk waiting for their table. I love the pastas and the service is stellar. This is the kind of place where everyone in our party orders something different and we all get to try each other's dish. We've always sat outside which is great because you can people watch. If it's cold, they have heaters available. The celebs love this place, too, but you may never see them as they get a special room inside, away from the prying eyes of the public. Their vodka pasta is named after one guy who really loves it, someone named Beiber. Mangia!

Loved this place while visiting on a business trip. It was near my hotel so I walked up on a Sunday night around 8:00 PM and was seated immediately. The portion size was great and I even had some to take to go. They were generous with the crab and lobster too. A really delicious and elegant dinner and beautiful Beverly Hills. It's right on the corner of N Canon, and they have just as much outdoor seating as indoor seating. Both options would be good and both areas are very lively. Outside is well covered and heated and the tables weren't too close. They don't have parking, however, they offer valet for $15. We were able to find metered parking a block away so it was a short walk. Otherwise your only other option would be a paid parking garage. Parking in this part of Beverly Hills is a bit difficult due to how busy it always is. Our server was really polite and very prompt. They did a fantastic job with drink refills, honestly as soon as my drink would get halfway done they would come over and refill it. They have a huge menu with a ton of options but I have always heard about their truffle pasta, so I was zoned in on that. To start, we chose the Beef Carpaccio and the Bresaola starters. Both were fantastic and we really enjoyed them. I wish there was more meat on the Bresaola plate but still it was very good. For our entrées we chose the Black Truffle Tagliolini and the Agnolotti. The truffles were a great addition and I should have done the cheese wheel option as well but since we were sitting outside I decided to pass. This is a really elegant and great place to have dinner. It would be good for a casual or formal occasion and especially great for a date. It's a bit expensive, but not overly so, there are other more expensive places close by even though they are not better than Il Pastaio. read more

The food was delicious. The service was great - they accidentally screwed up on an order but took care of it really quickly. The staff were very friendly, and joked around. Great for lunch or a date spot My entree was the Farfalle with Salmon, and for dessert the Lemon Meringue Tart The tiramisu was delicious too. read more

We love the ambiance and the truffle cheese wheel pasta is insane! The borolo is my fav and the heat lamps make outdoor seating delightful any time of year. The wait despite reservations is a little annoying but they do always have a full house so be prepared to wait at least 15min after your reservation time. read more

This is a beautifully appointed restaurant with a very large menu. Everyone really enjoyed their food. However the service for such a nice restaurant was the reason for one less star. I felt as if we were a bother and often had to flag him down and felt rushed. read more

Il Pastaio is one of my favorite Italian restaurants. It's in the heart of Beverly Hills on the corner of Canon Drive. The name means "the pasta maker" in Italian. It is owned by famous Drago family. The restaurant has been in business for 30 years! Over the years it somehow became a celebrity and tourist hotspot. Because of the restaurants reputation it can get incredibly busy during peak hours. The restaurant has a cozy inside and a see and be seen outside on the sidewalk. Of note is that some of the seating is very close together so during peak hours you will be seated pretty closely to your neighbors. Despite the hype surrounding this restaurant, it is incredibly homey and unpretentious. They always make me feel like a VIP when I dine here and are very sweet and attentive and just a class act. They also are very accommodating to dietary preferences. We started off with bread. An order of bread comes with two slices. Their bread is really delicious. It is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was also served warm. We ordered it because it pairs well with soup. We got the soup of the day which was a bean soup. It was completely vegan and absolutely delicious. The soup comes only as a bowl and is a generous serving. You could totally make this into a meal. It was so, so good. I'm dreaming of that soup, actually. For our main course we split the SPUGNETTE DON LILLO which is sponge pasta with onion, peas, green beans, fava beans, spinach puree, and pecorino cheese. This dish is green goodness. It's one of the lighter pasta dishes which is what I prefer when eating out. Portion size was generous. It was also vegetarian. We were pretty full by now but we wanted a very light dessert to finish off the meal. Our waiter suggested the Panna Cotta which is cream custard with strawberry sauce. It was the perfect choice. It was melt in your mouth delicious and the fresh strawberries on the side were so fresh and juicy. Our experience was absolutely flawless and, like always, I enjoyed my meal and time here. One new thing I noticed on my visit here is that they recently added a private party room in the back. It's absolutely beautiful and a wonderful addition to the restaurant. Another thing of note is that they currently have a truffle menu. Metered parking on the street. Valet parking also available. At night the valet is on Canon but during the day it is on the side street. Il Pastaio is open all day and there is one menu for the entire day. read more
After all the years living in LA still haven't tried this place until now. I didn't think they had good vegan options but I was wrong. They have quite a few plates that can be made vegan. The spicy arrabbiata pasta was so tasty! The vegetariana salad I got was so good too. The sourdough bread that comes out with oil and vinegar was amazing. Service was great. Update for accuracy I'm sitting at this restaurant writing this review. I've never had service so slow and poor that I figured I'd have enough time to write out any issues but alas here I am. We were immediately seated but that was where the good stuff ended. We waited a long while to get anyone to bring a menu. No water for the longest and telling them we were just doing dessert must have been a no no. Not once was water refilled the entire time, nor one check in? Even had to flag someone for the bill. I actually starting timing how long it would take to get someone to collect the tab.. I'm sitting at 16 mins after I decided to ask and not before we sat longer while waiting. We ordered apple tarts. The Carmel sauce was extremely bitter and burnt tasting, a first for me. The tart was a bit lack luster. They did give us bread, but nothing with it. No oil, butter anything. Though was available for other tables. Not sure if we actually have a server since there was not a single check in or water top off... this is definitely not a place I would go to or recommend. Visiting or local. Oh and they decided to refill the water, right as we were leaving. Um, yeah and of course after flagging down one of the managers and complaining. The apology was simple. High-end outdoor Italian food experience. This is probably one of the most popular restaurants in Beverly Hills and it is constantly packed with people. The $1.50 bread starter is A MUST! I got a Farfalle de Salmone with a Lychee Martini. The smoked salmon was very salty, but added a lot of flavor to the cream sauce. The farfalle were cooked well. This was a 10/10 cocktail. Came here on a busy Saturday at 1:00pm. They sat us fast and our server was prompt to get us our drinks and bring our fresh bread. The pasta was delicious & and calamari was tasty. The price was very reasonable considering we got one salad to share , two pasta dishes, one appetizer, and 2 drinks. We paid a total of $180 I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more

The food was excellent and the wine was delicious. Very consistent across all dishes. I ordered a pasta with a venison ragu that was great, the beef carpaccio appetizer was delicious, and we had the wine of the month which was a Riesling. The portion sizes were great, I would certainly come back for the food. However, the service was a bit strange. Our waitress checked in on us very often at first without taking our orders, then rushed us a bit all at once. It wasn't a negative experience, just a little bit weird. read more

This place certainly raised my expectations of what good pasta is like! As an appetizer to share with my party, we got calamari. I also got the Scoglio pasta. Everything was delicious! The calamari rings were incredibly light and crispy, and their tomato dipping sauce was amazing. My party and I enjoyed the dish a lot. I loved my pasta so much! The dish is undoubtedly a seafood lover's heaven. There were so many shrimps, mussels, calamari, and scallops. The pasta noodles were cooked to the perfect chewing consistency. Their tomato sauce was light and especially heavenly! I would recommend anyone to get the Scoglio pasta. I would highly recommend coming here! read more

I've been wanting to visit Il Pastaio for some time now after hearing great things about it from someone who said they always go here anytime they travel to LA. Although my overall experience dining here was a little underwhelming, I can say the freshness of the food was kind of the saving grace that brought my rating from a 3 to a 4. Venue: Kind of confusing...Seems to be separated into 3-4 sections: 2 separate indoor sections and 2 separate patio areas. Regardless, we were sat in one of the indoor sections which had small (live) trees and large mirrors. Our table area had enough space to accommodate a baby stroller. Some of the art on the walls looked a little cheap in my opinion and took away from the aesthetic I think they were going for. The dress code was mixed, some people had on more formal attire while others looked like they casually walked-in with normal clothes without a reservation. Drinks: Old Fashioned ($17) absolutely not. Don't do it, not worth it, tastes like I made it at home. Cocktail selection was small and basic but they did have a good variety of wines though. We had a smooth red that was pretty good. Food: We ordered the prosciutto appetizer with the burrata add on. It was okay... I wish they would have done more to elevate it like caramelizing the pears or something. The prosciutto tasted fresh, the dish just seemed kind of lazy. For dinner we ordered the fresh Truffle Pasta ($55) with cheese wheel ($28) and the lobster/crab pasta ($35). The pasta definitely tasted fresh and homemade and the seafood tasted fresh as well. However, interestingly even with the cheese wheel add on the pasta wasn't really cheesy in my opinion so I don't think it's really worth the price honestly. It tasted like it still needed salt or maybe to be paired with a protein. For dessert we ordered the Panna Cotta ($11) and the flourless chocolate cake ($11). I'd say the panna cotta was good but I'd pass on the cake next time because I found it dry and strangely not chocolatey enough. Overall, I probably won't be returning since I wasn't overly impressed with the food...definitely feel it's more a touristy spot than a local favorite. read more

I love II Pastaio, the food here is delicious and the ambiance is great. Always amazing customer service. Location is nice with lots of stores nearby. Even more beautiful is their Olive Room that you can rent for private parties. I believe it accommodates up to 40 guests. The room has tall Olive trees that have white lights on them and mirrors on the two wall across each other. Makes the most amazing ambiance. I attended a baby shower on Sunday and had a great time. The food was delicious as always and customer service was top notch. If you want to host a small event and are looking for a cute place with great food and service look no further. read more

Really don't like giving places low stars however, the hype did not meet the expectations. I heard really great things about this place and was very excited to try it. Everything was very mid. The only reason I'm giving it a two star instead of one is because their dessert was phenomenal. Everything else is OK. I would only go back for the dessert. I didn't get a picture of the dessert because I didn't have high expectations, but it blew my mind. read more

This place hasn't changed! I still have the same love for it like I did seven years ago. They are so fast and the service is amazing. The food is still delicious and the ambiance is beautiful, it felt like we were in Europe. I will be back soon! read more

Hi Hanna we are not doing it table side as it is prohibited by the Department of Health. You can still order it but the Chef will do it in the kitchen.

Not at the moment! We went the other day and just walked in mid afternoon.
Is the truffle menu available year round?
Yes. Although it was black truffle over the summer and a couple of weeks ago, it was white truffle.
Is there a certain amount of entrees you need to get here? I keep seeing people with $250+ bills but what if I just wanted two pasta plates and that's it? do you need to make a reservation?
OMG, it's so good! Why ask questions? Just keep it minimal and you are good to go! If you can eat here DO IT! It is SO amazing! Great if you have a second person to share a starter and skip the wine.
